Valhalla – the Tree of Knowing and the Three Norns

Now has come the time to speak of one important place between Asgard and Valhalla

Let us then ascend to this place, swinging in a high degree of the streaming of Light

Upon the very summit of the green gardens of Asgard rising into the heights there is a peculiar house, wreathed about with legends, of circular form

It is like a ring, which silverly and at the same time snow-whitely shines into the distances of Asgard

A ring it is possible to call it because with its peculiar structure it encompasses the trunk of the Tree of Knowing

The snow-white house, or rather temple, affords a place for the working of the three Norns dwelling within it

They are: Urda, Werdandi and Skulda

These three Norns are the spinners of the fate of all being in the Subsequent Work of Creation

Their weaving is all-embracing, and through their hands pass all the threads of the important happenings in the Subsequent Work of Creation

However much for their fingers blessed by the Light that happening is the most important which contains the transformations of great world events, nevertheless between their fingers there is woven with certainty also the thread of the reader who is just now reading this part of the great knowing about Valhalla and Asgard

Although it is evidently not simple to picture to oneself the image of these three Norns who weave the threads of all happening and of all creatures, nevertheless it is needful to occupy oneself with it in one's spirit, for this picture bears within it the recognition of the weaving of the past, the present and the future, which fulfils itself

Here there vibrates through the space the unceasing sounding of the words “As above, so below…”, and again “As in the small, so also in the great…”, or at another time “In the seed is all the rest…”, or “Nothing is lost, everything will one day be harvested and sorted…”, and in these words there is mirrored in simplicity their fulfilment for all that happens in all the world-parts and in their universes with all creatures

He who is not able to accept that the course of the worlds flows through the hands of these three animistic servants, he will also not be able to accept anything of the recognition of the Wisdom of God, which works and creates in the Work of Creation always through the individual centres of forces out of which there jets further the transformed power which is appointed for the further divisions of the exalted Work of God's Creation

The Tree of Knowing and the three Norns Urda, Werdandi and Skulda are the place of one such centre of forces, which precisely is very closely connected with the life of all creatures in the Subsequent Work of Creation

The Tree of Knowing is a mighty living place in the animistic sphere, which we may describe also otherwise as a distributing station of the forces and threads formed out of the influx of the Light streaming from the Grail in its appointment for all life in the materialities of the Subsequent Work of Creation

The dimensions of this tree are for the earthly conceptions of men ungraspable

It is not easy to describe it, because it is not only a tree, but is a column of light, strengthened by the streaming of forces joined in one nodal point

It is only in the animistic view that it appears as a primordially ancient mighty tree resembling a gigantic oak, or an old olive tree

It is possible to picture it thus:

Its mighty roots run out to the sides and drink themselves into the gardens of Asgard and further into the further planes and worlds

This movement it is possible to perceive as streaming in the direction downward, for the house where the Norns work stands upon the very summit of the rising groves, and the rays woven by the Norns spread themselves at once into all directions beneath their place of working

The trunk itself is formed by a stream out of the individual threads of forces, through which there streams from the Primordial Work of Creation all that is needful for the nourishing of the subsequent, adjoined Subsequent Work of Creation

Its trunk rises high upward above Asgard and passes through the circle of Valhalla

It is also a part of Valhalla itself, and like a mighty column of Light it is to be found in the places behind the step of the throne of O-dio-nar

Its golden-silvery leafy crown stretches itself into the radiant heights above Valhalla, where it is lost in the nebulae of Light

This tree, however, is for human thinking peculiar precisely in this, that beside its leafy crown in the Light there are there at the same time also roots, and also its roots in Asgard grow in a crown upon whose branches everything buds, blossoms and bears fruit in the direction downward into the materialities

Thus it is the same as above, so also below

On both sides at this tree there are roots drawing the power out of the places whence they stretch, and at the same time there are here beside the roots also blossoms and fruits speaking of that which is happening on the opposite side of the tree

In the luminous nebulae, beneath the spiritual planes of the Primordial Creation, there emerge the fruits of that which is happening in the worlds of the Subsequent Work of Creation, and on the contrary in the planes of the first groves of Asgard there flow the blossoms and fruits of the pictures of that which is being prepared in the Primordial Creation for the help and strengthening of the Subsequent Work of Creation

And these streams and threads out of the streaming, like unto the sap welling up in a tree, are woven by three exalted animistic servants, being called the Norns, because men were not able to name them otherwise than as the astonishment over the pictures permitted them, which hover lastingly around these three weavers of fate of the Subsequent Work of Creation

The greatest and also the smallest passes between the fingers of these spinners and drinks itself into the threads of all life

They weave that which is to come, just as there converges with them that which is just now happening, and at the same time there is here also all that which has already been

Between their fingers there pass threads containing enormous happenings which will one day be fulfilled in their manifesting, in some of the parts of the Subsequent Work of Creation

And beside this happening there is here also the presence of the smallest threads of the fates of individual men, which rise up out of the gardens of the spiritual sparks, where there remain, for the whole time of the being of the spiritual spark in the materialities, those flowers in whose blossom there was born, in the most delicate animistic-ethereal sphere, the human child as the first form of the spiritual spark

And these flowers in the gardens upon the boundary between the animistic and the ethereal planes are that place whence there rises the thread bearing the picture of the state which gives testimony about the struggle of the spiritual spark upon its path of ripening in the worlds of the Subsequent Work of Creation

It may be said that between the fingers of the three spinners these threads flow automatically, without the participation of their volition, and at the same time, as they rise upward, there sounds in them the call for help and support from the spiritual spheres, if the struggle of the spiritual spark is exhausting and there threatens therein a wavering and a fall, or also a luminous, happy sounding, and that if the spiritual spark develops joyfully and purely towards its strengthening

And precisely out of these threads there stretches again a further sounding upward, even to the throne of Parzival, who in his ruling hand holds symbolically all life in Creation

To the threads calling for help – although men in their earthliness are not aware of it, their spirit often calls for help upward – there can afterwards join itself, to this call for help, the strengthening radiation of the spirits in the spheres of Light in Creation and also in the Primordial Creation, and this strengthening radiation again flows down and passes through the fingers of the spinners, who again automatically give to these threads direction and thereby also movements, in which there is contained help for the whole and also for the individual spiritual sparks

The wisdom contained in these strengthening streams, however, seeks and finds fulfilment in forms which precisely earthly men often perceive as pressure and also as an experiencing which for themselves they would most gladly avoid, for such experiencing always seems to them heavy

That precisely therein there is often contained the only help for the strengthening of the development of the spiritual spark, of that men in their limitedness, which is a part of their narrowed outlook especially in the gross materialities, are not aware, and they lament over the moments experienced, which they regard precisely as a sign of the forsaking by all the helps of the Light

Only when they attain the spiritual planes can they in retrospect survey it all, and then in tears of joyful happiness they thank the wisdom which led them by paths which were for them often bitter and not simple, yet spiritually most highly strengthening and enriching, holding them upward before falling asleep and before decline

Only from the heights of the spiritual home may the spirits who long for it behold that gloriously formed net of threads which is woven without ceasing, so that there may be created movement and life in the materialities of the Subsequent Work of Creation, whereby the one thing alone which is pursued by this movement is the support of the spiritually healthy development of all that is spiritual in the materialities

Wholly aside in these threads stands that which is often the strongest goal of earthly men, that is comfort and the enjoying of earthly pleasures, for which there rules the name “a full-valued earthly life”

This “full-valued earthly life”, which by the greatest part of earthly men is perceived as “the longed-for ideal”, is, however, from the standpoint of the luminous helps beheld as a wholly poisonous mixture of decline and of slothful comfort for the spirit

In the threads flowing in from the heights into the spheres of the worlds of the Subsequent Work of Creation there descends a call driving everything forward, ever higher and higher, without a single slackening, for only in such movement there is contained for the spiritual spark the right use of the limited time which is granted to it for development in the materialities

Thus in the best streaming from the Light, which may be called a blessing, there is driven upon man ever new and new experiencing, requiring his inner mobility and independence in free deciding in this or that directing of fate

And for this manner of the development of the spiritual sparks the fingers of the three spinners weave events which either bear within them joy and happiness, if the spiritual sparks in the materialities exert themselves out of themselves in an intuitive movement forward, or blows and heavy periods, failures and also illness and death, if the spiritual sparks do not exert themselves sufficiently and therefore must be driven forward against their will by woven experiencings which move them towards the rescue of their existence, even though to unknowing men in the earthly world it seems to be unpleasant and heavy

If there will be here the movement such as it is to be, then there will be woven by the wise spinners threads containing a far stronger blessing and joy than men today are at all able to imagine

If, however, the spiritual sparks fall into sleep and forget their task of an ever more conscious development, and forget why they are in the materialities and what meaning their whole being has, then the pressure must be increased and bring sharp bends of experiencing, as it is with a stream of water, which after a time of idle flowing is refreshed by rapids and by a general quickening of its course

Here the reader surely puts to himself the question how it all then comes to the individual man in such a way that it may be possible to speak unceasingly of the highest Justice of God, which is identical with the Love of God

The threads which were drawn through in the places of the weaving in the house of the spinners immediately afterwards divide themselves and sort themselves exactly according to that which they are to bring

For their kind, for that which they bear within them, there already wait at the given place the Vaenen, who are the wise guardians of the threads, and thus exactly according to that which is to come to this or that man, as the burdening of the returning fruit to which man through his previous existence gave the cause, they lead to their spiritual spark exactly that which it needs to weave into the threads which then await it

Thousands of hands and fingers of these exalted servants work unswervingly upon this, that in the highest wisdom and justice there may be prepared for man upon his path exactly that which he needs to experience, and at the same time that which can most move him forward upon his spiritual path

Only with difficulty to be grasped is the happening which is unceasingly in movement and which works with the exactness of the highest perfection, such as men with their complicated arranging of much simpler things are not able to imagine

That there are, however, in the life of every man periods which, after seemingly peaceful and comfortably experienced months, or years, or perhaps even whole decades of quiet life, all at once come and shake everything which until then counted as security and as the accustomed manner of life, that everyone will swiftly call to mind

Shakings which bring all at once that which man pushed away from himself and with which he did not wish to occupy himself

All this is all at once here, and he must receive it and experience it, work it through, and at last turn it to account with his inner being as a recognition to which it gave the opportunity to occupy itself with much deeper things than those of which he thought until that time

Whether it be a shaking in the setting of earthly circumstances, whether it be illness, the death of someone near, whether it be the disappointing of confidence in some other one, or on the contrary the experiencing of an unexpected bettering of something for which man no longer even hoped, all this is that quickening of the stream which flows to him as help upon his path and brings forms which make possible a hastened ripening of the spirit

All this is prepared and made ready already long beforehand, and it waits only for the coming of the right setting of the stars and of further circumstances, which suddenly give to life a new dimension and movement

How the spiritual spark in man will deal with it, however, lies only and solely with itself

The threads bring only the opportunity for use, for the working through and the forming of qualities of the spiritual kind

The wise Norns beneath the Tree of Knowing wove for him the opportunity for experiencing and for a moving forward

The Vaenen took over the prepared threads and wove out of them, with the help of the Alphar, the surroundings which await the human spirit, that he upon the experiencing thus prepared may manifest himself with his inner being either as one who deals nobly and who bears his portion of life valiantly with pure humility, or as one who in these strong moments of his path fails and gives free course to his weaknesses and to the flaws of his character

Out of these experiencings there then rises again upward a radiation which marks the state of the flower of the spirit, and again out of this flower there rises a sounding upward, so that it may become a part of the homogeneous streaming which is woven as past and present, out of which there arises the near and also the distant future

The radiation of the threads passes through the individual nodes and points in Creation, which in answer to the state of the radiation create a strengthened answer, which always bears within it help for the spiritual purification and healing upon the path, no matter whether it be a matter of individuals, of nations, of the whole earth, or even of one whole world-part

The radiation testifies to the necessity of the help which will surely come in order to bring exactly that which is needful for the healing and the strengthening

It can also at last bring even the destruction of a part, or of the whole, if this is seen as the only way out in the given state

For all this Parzival has in Valhalla and also in other places in Creation sufficient helpers, so that there may always be attained a way out in healing

The servants of Parzival in Creation are lastingly in readiness, and upon a call they bring movement, as when a key is laid into the lock and is turned therein

Always that which is being prepared is mirrored in the flowing of the threads which go before and which form for perceptive creatures a vibration before the given stretch of healing

He who knows the moments before a summer storm, when there is a peculiar state in the air which is like a sultriness preceding the subsequent refreshing streaming in the change of the air pressure, he knows also what events in the world of human society precede that healing streaming

Long beforehand there are always woven threads out of which there form themselves forms which warn that a change is coming

And thus those who know this and receive that great recognition, that the threads of fate of all being pass through the hands of the weaving, knowing feminine beings, may now recognise all that is coming as the beginning of the hastening happening, which brings only healing and purification of the existing unhealthy spiritual state among men

Those who occupy themselves with these things also cannot name that which is coming otherwise than as a merciful help sent out from the Light

The woven threads will now bring strengthening to all that is pure, or is able still at the last moment to purify itself in its inward awakening out of the sleep of the spiritual inner being

Many, however, will regard it as manifestations of a purely earthly kind, and in the not recognising of the clear connections working therein they will entangle themselves in the snares of their own conceptions, and not even at the last moment will they free themselves out of the delusive fantasies about earthly rulers who are perhaps to be stronger than the Will of God in Creation

They will not comprehend that the healing streaming, which was woven already a century ago, now finds exactly the ways and forms for the hastening, in which at last everyone will have to apply his forces for himself alone, in order to prove that his inner being is free and spiritually luminous, so that in the further prospect his path may be permitted to proceed along the ways woven for a joyful and blessed experiencing, for his spirit will be permitted to receive it as the result of his own victory over himself

Blessed are they who in the present time are really knowing and who rightly recognise how the hastened streaming manifests itself, which always at last comes in order to bring enlivening and healing there where for a long time already there manifest themselves unhealthiness and a creeping poisoning

Blessed are they who are aware that the time for the manifesting of the woven threads is always changeable, for there must first come the right maturity in all the degrees of the spheres, and only afterwards can there come the penetrating of the happenings also into the grossest materiality

The key needs to be laid into the lock, and only then can it be turned therein

From the Light the measure of humanly earthly time is not in this the standard, but solely that maturity in the given threads

And God the Father alone knew when this time would come, that all might be fulfilled in His highest Justice

The fingers of the three wise Norns wove it, without their being able themselves to say of it beforehand a single word

And Parzival himself blessed their weaving, for he knows that His Father is the Creator and the cornerstone Law for all that is
