The Working of the Animistic Herdsmen Into the Earthly World of Men

Although a great number of insights concerning the animistic servants is already known to knowing men, there still remain questions enough as to how to explain to oneself certain happenings which not infrequently take place here directly in gross materiality and in the immediate surroundings of men

Yes, many men still do not know how they are to understand the happenings running their course in our close vicinity, which withal often intervene in a fundamental way in the human wandering through this earthly plane

For the bringing nearer of one fundamental happening which is indeed present everywhere it is first needful to grasp the task of the so-called animistic herdsmen

“Herdsmen in the animistic world” – of this concept nothing is known, and although men often hold themselves to be very knowing, no one has hitherto been able to explain it for his fellow men clearly and lucidly

The animistic herdsmen belong to the species of the Alphar

Of the Alphar there has here on the Way of the Grail already been spoken in part before, but it was only in what was most necessary, for that sufficed for those places where these servants were hitherto mentioned in connection with Valhalla

Now we can advance into a greater depth of knowledge about their work, which also directly touches the human-spiritual species in the Subsequent Creation

The Alphar are above all builders, who work in the finer planes of the materialities, where they shape the conditions of worlds for the most varied degrees of maturity of souls

It is they who weave out of the substance of the individual densities the finer spheres, whither the human soul passes over from gross materiality in order to continue upon the path of its development

In the exactly guided plan of construction of their working there arise landscapes, cities and houses, which by their greater or lesser luminosity reflect the inner state of the souls that meet in the given places for the experiencing of their gifts and also of their weaknesses

Their creative power is admirable, for it is animistic and life-producing work out of which everything arises in the highest following of the Will of God, that it may bear within itself a convincing reality which imprints itself into the otherwise gaseously formless substance of ethereal materiality

In all that thus comes into being, in the most faithful following of the Laws of Creation the radiation is always imprinted exactly into the form of such a space as corresponds to the strongest homogeneity of the souls to be found there

Thus out of the same substantiality of the ethereal section we shall find worlds filled with beauty, vivacity, movement and lightness which vibrates through them for the refreshment of the inhabitants there, just as elsewhere we shall find desolate landscapes radiating the wretchedness and the misery of the emptiness of the human souls which dwell in these places

The Alphar are creators and builders

They, however, do not create with their hands, as is needful for example here on earth when men erect buildings and transform landscapes, but the fulfilling will of the Alphar, which they bear within themselves, of itself already imprints shapes and forms upon the ethereal substantiality

This working is made possible by the nature of ethereal materiality, which it is thus now possible to distinguish more correctly from gross materiality, that is more cooled down and less mobile

This also brings the answer to the question why in the worlds of the gross material universes there needs to be yet a special enlivening through the animistic, which draws near by means of greater or smaller animistic servants sent forth, and these by their nearness bring additionally the enlivening of the gross matter already formed in part in its rough outlines by the preceding steps of the High animistic servants from Valhalla

But here there is no room for this, for it would require a separate description of these happenings

Let us therefore receive the picture which before our eyes distinguishes the manner of creating of the faithful Alphar in the ethereal, where everything comes to pass with a higher vivacity, from the process in which this gross material world was formed, which also cannot change quite fundamentally according to the inner development of men, but remains in its basic forms always the same

For millions of years the earth has at first glance remained ever the same in its properties

Although this is so, changes take place here also

They are indeed always of a smaller extent than is the changing of the individual planes in the ethereal worlds, yet even here we shall find changes which can be observed even within the span of earthly decades, or today even within single years

These smaller changes, in which the inner state of the nations and of the whole of mankind is reflected, belong to the administration of one species of the animistic Alphar

It may therefore be said that besides the mentioned builders of the ethereal planes there belongs to the animistic species of the Alphar also a part of the working of these servants for the world of gross materiality as well

Here too one may speak of a certain creatively building mission of theirs, for they influence the conditions in this earthly world

Although their activity belongs to the happenings in gross materiality, it is not here a matter of the aforementioned animistic servants active directly in gross matter, such as the other greater and small animistic ones who are in some way always bound to matter, as for example the Dwarfs, the Elves, the Sylphs, the water servants of Neptune, the Salamanders of Sirius and many others

In a certain kind of work here in the grossest materiality the Alphar are the life-producing “influencers” of the animistic section

Literally it may be said that the herdsmen are the leading part of all unconscious animistic life

In order, however, to be able rightly to grasp the work of the animistic herdsmen, it is first needful to bring nearer to oneself the field of activity of this animistic kind of service in this gross material plane

As the foundation of the knowledge of their work let us take this, that the herdsmen by their nature shape the exact conditions reflecting the total spiritual state of mankind here in matter

It is self-evident that we shall not see these herdsmen with our earthly sight, yet nevertheless we constantly, in every moment, experience the effects of their working, which is at the same time, as in the case of the activity of all that is animistic in the work of Creation, the highest fulfilling of the Wisdom of God in the living Laws of Creation

However much the herdsmen always stand above this plane of materiality, their work reaches into gross materiality, brings great events and often of a greater extent than is the work of the other animistic servants in the world of nature

The small and the greater Alphar, as these servants are divided into two streams, have always in their charge certain wholes of the otherwise unconscious, but in part also more conscious animistic life here on earth

Animistically unconscious is that which by its being enlivens the gross material here on earth, but which does not bear within itself sufficient conscious will of its own for development

This unconscious flows to the earth out of that lowest-lying ocean of life to be found in the gardens of Asgard

Of these oceans there has also already been spoken before, and therefore the readers of the Way of the Grail know that out of these oceans there flows continually animistic life, which here immerses itself into earthly forms for their enlivening in the world of nature

The herdsmen in their mission influence precisely a great part of that unconscious life

The herdsmen always work inconspicuously upon an instruction which comes to them either from the side of the High animistic servants of Valhalla, or also for the fulfilment of the regular rhythmic cycles which lead them to activity through the radiation of the stars

In the animistic world of matter we find many happenings which proceed out of that occurrence, invisible at first glance, which in the end, however, in the full outbreak of its influence brings fundamental changes into the life upon earth

If we speak of unconscious life, we may take as an example the simple single-celled or perhaps multi-celled organisms, such as bacteria, moulds, fungi and many others to be found hidden from the ordinary sight of men

Yet there belongs here also a kind of radiation bearing within itself, on the plane of the smallest living particles of matter, a certain message which manifests itself outwardly in a peculiar manner that men have hitherto never rightly understood

One of the basic kinds of radiation belonging under the administration of the Alphar is that which men call viruses

But of these living particles there will yet be spoken in a wholly separate treatise

Today there is to be described in general the working of the Alphar who administer that unconscious animistic life which is an independent part of this earthly world

This life belongs, after all, to the animistic, and to a great extent it permeates the world around us

It may even be said that it is the fundamental mover of its development

Hidden in its seeming inconspicuousness it works continually in all places and influences this world exactly for the creating of such an environment as in the end influences the whole space in which plants, animals and also man are to be found

This animistic unconscious life is not cast into the world just anyhow, to move hither and thither, but it is strictly subordinate to the radiation of a higher animistic species, which is mediated precisely by the animistic leaders commissioned for this purpose by Valhalla

The influence of the radiation is fulfilled exactly according to several indicators, such as the spiritual state of men, the developmental period of the universe, or a commission from Valhalla for the fulfilment of the Will of God in Creation

This influence of the radiation works as a call into the host of the swarming groups of that unconscious animistic life

According to what the call is, an enormous part of this seemingly invisible life at once sets itself in motion and begins to work in the sense of the new commission

However seemingly tiny this part of the animistic is in its singleness, yet in union it works as a mass which nothing of the rest of the life upon earth can defy, nor withstand for long

This mighty mass of the animistic is set in motion through the working of the individual Alphar according to the kind of activity with which it is concerned

If we wish to bring this closer to human imagination, then we can best liken this activity to the leader who appears in the fairy tale of the Pied Piper, as men generally know it

This tale is derived from the receptivity of some men who were perhaps permitted at some time to behold it

Wherever one of these leaders appears, there the fulfilment which he brings swiftly draws near

In earlier times such a leader always went before a wave of sickness which manifested itself as plague, leprosy, cholera and many other diseases which gradually for a certain time became a part of the life of earthmen

This happening was brought to life by some animistic leader – an Alphar, to whom there are subject not only the aforementioned organisms invisible in their size, but also a part of the insect and animal world which associates itself in a community homogeneous in species

At his sign the power of life of these guided organisms awakens, and the Alphar directs them through the earthly world along paths exactly determined beforehand

He moves literally from city to city, from nation to nation, and brings the experiencing which is the reflection of the spiritual state of the inhabitants

The host of animistic life led by him, or in other words that small animistic army, permeates everything and works at once there where this is made possible for it by the kind of radiation which works either magnetically attracting or also repelling, according to the radiation to be found in the individual man or in the space around him

The streams of the guided animistic life work so as to bring the experiencing which, through their mission, can draw near to man or penetrate even into cities, lands, or whole continents

Although in the hitherto existing world of men these herdsmen work for the most part, alas, as the fulfillers of heavy happenings and experiencing, this is not at all their intention, for they merely administer the organisms entrusted to them, which spread or withdraw according to the inner state of the majority of men in the given region or even of the whole world

Their working used to be designated by men as the fulfilment of the biblical plagues of God

But in reality they do not bring hardships to the earthly world of men because this would be their intention and aim, but because they are in a certain sense compelled to it by the human will

In reality they could also bring to manifestation species beautiful and helping, if mankind deserves it through its inner volition

There is withal an inconceivable multitude of kinds of beautiful and helping forms of unconscious life which could manifest themselves upon earth, if men were to ripen for it through their spiritual state

Today, however, just as it has already been for whole millennia, there are brought to the earth only those species which for the most part make the earthly path harder for men

As has been said, this is not because the Alphar would will it so, or perhaps the Will of God itself, but it is the automatic manifestation of a state corresponding to the spiritual maturity and the prevailing scale of values of the majority of mankind

Were this state perhaps to change for the better, then gradually, slowly or even more swiftly, yet exactly according to the strength of the pure volition of an awakened mankind, it would also come to pass that the troubling and attacking forms of the unconscious animistic life would change by degrees into forms more blessed and gladdening earthmen through their beauty and usefulness

The herdsmen would first be permitted to lead the hitherto existing armies of species away into seclusion, that these might there grow weak and diminish to but a number of single individuals, who would then lay themselves down to sleep in a place appointed for it

Thereafter the released unconscious animistic kind of life would gradually begin to immerse itself into more beautiful and more useful forms, which would first be awakened for that purpose by the herdsmen in the earthly world and brought to mobility

Subsequently, through the influence of the strengthened radiation, their multiplying would come about, and then they would be permitted to be brought into the nearness of men

Many species, today designated by men as harmful and troublesome, would thus within no long time be reshaped into beneficial forms bringing joy at the encounter with them

Yet, as was said a moment ago, all this is not influenced by the Alphar of their own will, nor by anyone else but men themselves alone through their inner spiritual disposition

The free will of men thus by this roundabout way itself creates for itself the state with which men then struggle in the belief that they are exposed to incalculable happenings and obstacles proceeding from an outer influence

The source of this will they seek in nature if they are materially disposed, or in the arbitrariness of a whim of God if they place themselves in the position of believers

Either way, they thereby prove only that of the actual ordering of the work of Creation and of the perfection which works continually within it they in fact know nothing at all

They do not grasp the connections, however often many spiritual researchers with a certain pride call themselves knowing or investigating

The Alphar stand in quiet bitterness over the mankind here, for they only fulfil the volition of the free will of man, which in millions and milliards of men unites into a certain plane of radiation according to which there comes as an answer the state of the outer conditions of this world

The herdsmen can today bring for the most part only diseases, over-multiplied harmful insects such as voracious locusts, slugs, caterpillars and other pests, nay even certain animals such as small rodents or other flocking and herding animals which suddenly multiply beyond measure, so as unexpectedly to reshape the state of the earthly world

An indictment of mankind, which alone and alone is to blame for this state, is the fact that in the ancient times of this earth everything was more irradiated and brighter, so that there was here no need at all of so many troublesome species

Just as the Alphar, so also must the small animistic Elves work under the pressure of perverted human will, who instead of beautiful and generally useful plants and flowers must propagate the seeds of plants which bear within themselves, together with a swiftness of multiplying, also a certain form of troublesomeness, on account of which they are only with difficulty removed from the places where men do not want them

The seeds of these herbs would be left at rest and would have no cause for multiplying if this did not correspond to the spiritual conditions upon earth

Only single seeds or individuals or small groups of these species would tarry in small regions, where they would be kept as harmless exceptions for this world

They would become exceptions which by their small presence complete the manifoldness of the world of nature, without withal doing harm

Many of the mentioned troublesome forms of unconscious life have also hitherto been kept in distant regions, often precisely in the realms of eternal frost and ice, where, like hidden reserves, these species rested in case they should be called

In this men can now also observe the actual reason for all the warming and the changes in the currents of the air, for through the Ray of Parzival a whole army of these unconscious animistic forms of life has been awakened to activity, so that for the purification of all that is spiritual much happening might be accelerated in the last time of the Judgment

The nearness of the Divine radiation in the materialities works today in a similar manner as in the times of Moses in Egypt, when to him also, for help, through the radiation of Parzival there were brought, for the acceleration of the happenings, many animistic herdsmen with their hosts of that small animistic life

In the accelerated happening there is now to manifest itself with intensified force the impact of the actual state of the mankind which still moves upon earth

This must, however, necessarily set in motion not only the happening in the elements, but above all also an unexpected development connected with the multiplying unconscious animistic life which is led by the animistic herdsmen

Like a great, perfectly attuned orchestra of many members all the working of the animistic ones manifests itself, who in common progress labour upon the accelerating happening on earth

To this common happening in the animistic there belongs precisely the gradually fulfilling march of the herdsmen with their armies through the lands which are to be touched by an increased pressure upon human lukewarmness and spiritual sleep

All the events which unfold in men and around them call for one thing alone – for the awakening of the spirit, which amid the mounting happenings is to put to itself the questions why all this is coming to pass

But alas, instead of an awakening there is here still only the defiance of the conceited intellect, intensified by the spiritual immobility of the greatest part of men

Therefore there come ever more herdsmen who have a commission from Valhalla, so that in a shortened happening everything to which the human inner being gives occasion may be reflected

Many men do not know how to explain all this to themselves, for they feel themselves to be dejected and at a loss

They may, however, remain in peacefulness, for in the grossest part of materiality everything manifests itself only as the smallest symbolic part of that happening which unfolds in the finer planes of the universe spreading in the nearness of this earth

Despite the thickening happening it is in the gross material world still only a faint reflection of what is being fulfilled around many men in the finer planes of matter

In the most living gradation of materiality, that is in the ethereal, there has already for some time been taking place the happening which was described in the Revelation of John

It is thus a great grace that much of this remains only a part of the inner happenings which circle about the soul plane of men

Were this to come to visibility, then a great part of men would be appalled at the horror and the ugliness which fills the space around men who are inwardly unbeautiful

Monsters of all kinds as living forms of evil and of an intuitive volition filled with filth, that is the world to be found on the ethereal plane around many men

Were this to break out in materiality on the plane of its grossest density, then the destruction of this part of the universe would have to come about

Therefore the greatest part of the Judgment takes place on the inner plane, while outwardly men suspect nothing of any gravity, because the dullness of their perceiving does not permit it to them

In reality, however, there takes place outwardly, in the very smallest manifestations of conduct, in reactions and gestures which men often do not even perceive, the Holy Judgment of God, which influences their further being and non-being

Thus in the end even in gross materiality itself we can behold many indications of these finer happenings, which withal literally rage within, hidden beneath the layer of the density of earthly bodies

It requires only the having of wakeful powers of observation, which then easily and swiftly disclose all that is to be found in the inner plane around man

Outwardly it steps forth into forms which are yet more visible

It is the unprecedented irritability of many and the unrest which enters into human conduct, in which instead of the fullness of peace it is possible to behold a rash and uncontrollable anger clothed in coarseness and in unbeautiful forms of thoughts and words

The inner pressure has outwardly only certain manifestations, and yet it is that gravest part of the ongoing Judgment of God, in which many men quite needlessly forfeit their own being by inclining at the last moment towards impurity and towards an evil direction of their volition

And precisely over all this the animistic herdsmen work and lead their herds, which cast themselves into the ranks of human spirits in order by their nature to become the impulse for the manifesting either of pure humility and kindliness, or of an increased irritability and over-sensitiveness of one's own person

Man stands to a certain degree defenceless in the face of all this, and the only power with which he may confront it is his pure and childlike simple surrender into the flowing of the Will of God

For this, however, it is needful to take into one's inner being humility, the fullness of peace and the capacity for forgiveness

On all the finer planes of human being there is now being fulfilled to the last letter the promise of Parzival, as was also already recorded in the Revelation of John

And in gross materiality there joins itself to this the increased pressure of the outer state of the world, into which there now immerses itself one animistic herdsman after another, and each brings a new kind of his followers, who are to manifest themselves in the most varied forms of intervention in the human world

It is in part a blessing that mankind does not know all that is made ready in the animistic, that it may bring the manifestations of the strengthening Ray of Parzival

This because it would already beforehand arouse despondency and hopelessness, and many would not be able to face it with the needful courage and enduring joy

But already now there are here the most simultaneous happenings that it was never possible to behold, as they unite into one single stroke upon the souls of men, which brings the purification and the liberation of those who incline wholly to the living of the beatitudes of Jesus the Son of God

Everything proceeds along paths determined beforehand, yet nevertheless it has forms which do not correspond to petty human thinking

For in its conceptions this always seeks to expect forms other than those which are entirely sufficient for the fulfilment of the promise to the Light

Let us but look around us more with our inner sight

Through the land the herdsmen pass hither and thither, and behind them, obedient to their call, there marches in the most varied shapes the inexhaustible stream of unconscious animistic life, which has taken upon itself forms corresponding exactly to the need for the expression of the state of the men of the given lands and continents

Thus there is gradually fulfilled one part of the Judgment of God, which is again but the preparatory ground for a further stage of new experiencing

And in the midst of this stands the earthman, who is still endowed with his free will in deciding

His own free will decides the further direction of the paths along which he will be compelled to walk

Under the intensified pressure he creates his fate, out of which the Vaenen weave the threads of his further being or non-being

The outgrowths of radiation of the mentioned threads hasten into new connection with further human forms of volition, and out of this radiation there are again woven the conditions of the outer state of this earth

Everything lies in the hands of man always only at the very beginning of the stirring of his volition

In the hands of man lies what volition goes forth from him into the threads in the Subsequent Creation

The rest is already strictly subordinate to the hands of the animistic servants, who with unprecedented swiftness weave out of it fate and also the decisive testimony for the Holy Divine Judgment upon this or that man

Everything is so simple and plain that in the perfection of the Divine guidance of the worlds not a single injustice can be traced which would come to pass in the fate of the individual man or of this whole earth

He who receives the knowledge of the objective and supremely Just working of the Laws of God also cannot act otherwise than to have his inner being attuned to the all-embracing harmony which affords him enduring help and strengthening upon his path

Past such a man all the mentioned hosts of animistic life following their herdsmen then pass calmly and without intervening against him and against his earthly striding forward

O man, stand still for a while and reflect that you are continually surrounded by the perfectly established Laws of Creation, in which you can develop in joy just as the Loving-Kindness of God laid it into the work of Creation in the beginning

Through your enduring, peace-filled volition towards the good you can pass through all this with lightness and with a childlike discovering of how everything is wisely ordered by the Will of God down to the smallest particles

Everything will be to you a help and a strengthening, just so far as you yourself will make it possible through your pure volition

In the admirable work of Creation the weaving of development is set for the thriving of all life which vibrates in harmony with the other inhabitants of this glorious space of Light and Life
