The Volition of Man in the Weaving of the Threads of the Vaenen

The human spirit is still not sufficiently aware of what power it wields in its deciding, in the directing of its development and also in the shaping of the countless happenings around it

It is not aware of all that it prepares for itself in the Work of God's Creation, the path along which it will one day have to walk in order to reap upon it the harvest of what it has sown

If we leave aside all those people who take no interest in it and to whom it is wholly indifferent what arises out of their wishes and thoughts, then even those remaining, who have at times occupied themselves with it, cannot for the greatest part picture to themselves the livingness in these happenings which is bound up with it

Knowing men know that out of their volition there are formed threads whose further development is subject to the Laws of Creation

The threads arising out of the volition of man are exactly that of which it was spoken by the Son of God Jesus, that it will one day have to be redeemed to the last farthing

And it is precisely these threads, their weaving and their guiding into the distances, and also their returning back, which are the work of the exalted Vaenen, of whom there is a great number around every man

Their work, although knowing men know of the laws of Creation, of the Law of Reciprocal Action, of the law of sowing and reaping, remains an ungraspable mystery with which not even the wisest of the learned know how to deal

The weaving of the Vaenen is ungraspable for earthman above all in the swiftness with which they work, for men cannot picture to themselves that there could be anyone here who would be able really to seize at once all volition, in the whole diversity issuing out of it, and to lead it to its working out

Yet it is so, and it is in no way difficult for these animistic servants swinging in the Will of God that through their hands there should pass really everything to the last particle which arises in the volition of man on all planes

They work otherwise than are the human conceptions of weaving

The Vaenen always work with radiation, and this they direct, they lead it into the distances already at the moment when man has barely managed to become aware of the flicker of his volition in his earthly consciousness

The speed of material light, if we take this as a measure for comparison, in the way men measure with it the distances in the universe, is incomparably dense and slow beside the weaving of the Vaenen

It is precisely the swiftness which makes of the work of these servants an ungraspable picture for man, for in one single moment a thousand radiant threads jet forth from man into space, bearing within them his intuitive perceptions, his feelings, his thoughts and also the mirroring of his outward dealings

The threads jet forth and fly out in unceasing flowing, without its being possible that this flowing should cease, that it should come to a halt and remain without movement, for the spirit by its species cannot remain without mobility in its volition

Its nature is the radiating out of volition and of longings, which form themselves within it in proportion to its maturity and to the pure clarity with which it flames in its spiritual radiance

Each of men is therefore in this respect, here in the materialities, the starting point of jetting rays which cross, intertwine, strengthen one another, and at another time in swift extinguishing fall away, to be replaced immediately after by new rays of another volition

It is possible to liken it to an unceasing source out of which there shoot forth continually diverse, coloured, bright and also turbid rays in the most varied directions, so that after a time these return and meet with new kinds of rays shooting out anew to the sides

This happening is joined into one unified whole, in the centre of which stands the spirit, which through its radiation gives to it movement and diversity

It is the starting point and at the same time the receiving force, which stands in it all as a sending and receiving core, which through its choice weaves new threads into all directions, which after a time return again

It is needful to picture it at least in part as the course of a film, in which by the hand of an artist there is created a picture of flitting happenings which are in continually changing movement, according to what radiation goes forth, what returns, and what arises out of their meeting

For a still better grasp it is perhaps good for man to picture to himself the forms which are shaped out of it and which fly out as a secondary product of the jetting rays, in a certain slowing, into the space in which they then seek, through their own momentum and the force which was impressed upon them by man, to hold themselves in life

This space of the individual spheres of thought-forms and of forms of intuitive perception is again a space full of diversely impetuous life, in which everything develops, joins together, interpenetrates, strengthens itself and again withers and passes away

With this, however, we are already digressing, for the forms mentioned are taken over from the Vaenen precisely by the Alphar, so that out of them they may form whole pictures and landscapes in worlds of finer, more penetrable density than is the gross material world here

Let us mention only in all brevity the prospect that in part also the little animistic ones here on earth must work under this influence, that is, the well-known Elves and Dwarves, who then, influenced by the working of man, carry the prevailing volition of mankind into the life of nature

Here we have again the confirmation that many kinds of small life in nature, which are here ever more widely spread, having in their mission to trouble men or to bring illnesses, are only a reflection of the spiritual state of the prevailing part of men on earth

If men were to change in their striving, to swing themselves higher towards the Light, many of these troubling forms would pass away, would be lost and would be no more

At the same time they would be replaced by forms of life more beautiful, more pleasant and useful to man

Thus the present multiplying of the species which press upon man in order to trouble him whenever he goes out into nature is only and solely the returning manifestation of the inner state of thought and of intuitive perception of the greater part of men

Yet all this is still nothing beside that which in the worlds of ethereal materialities the Alphar must form for the human souls coming thither, as the consequence of their striving and volition in their time on earth

But let us return to the Vaenen and to the threads which are woven by them for the fate of every man

For greater understanding it is good to bear within oneself at least, as a foundation of consciousness, that everything around man lives and works, forming and creating the conditions which correspond to his more enduring, strongest impulses, which we call volition

It is needful to receive this as a reality which man inwardly comprehends within himself, although it does not lie in his power to hold fast unceasingly that livingness which is bound up with the weaving of the Vaenen

There is no man who would be able to survey it lastingly and as a whole, for the course of the gearwork administered by the Vaenen runs into all directions so all-embracingly and at the same time so swiftly that the sight of man will never be able to comprehend it all in that essence of radiation which in reality everything taking place in the materialities is

Man can behold of it only here and there pictures which either terrify him or fill him with joy

Also during sleep the soul, more loosened from the body, is able to observe something of it and also to experience it with

Out of this there then arise those flashes which are called dreams, with all their confusion and unsurveyability for the grasp of the intellect

Often it is precisely the moment which can be a glimpse into the pictures woven by the Vaenen, whether these are pictures shown out of one's own weaving, or out of the weaving of those near to him of whom man perhaps thinks at that time

The volition of man, unfolding out of his will in deciding, may be described as unceasingly flowing streams of radiation, or otherwise still, as an unceasingly running fabric of radiation which cannot be halted even for a moment, because it issues out of the nature of the immersion of the spiritual spark into the materialities

From the first moment of volition, which manifests itself as a stirring in the luminosity of the spiritual spark, everything links itself to that volition, unrolling as an endless band which runs without halting until the complete exhausting and living out, which can come only in two ways

Either the spirit lays aside this ending of the weaving of radiation in the materialities in that in becoming luminous it gains for itself such radiance that it grows fine and translucent, until at last it burns away and disintegrates into golden dust in the highest animistic gardens appointed for the immersion and the emerging of the human spirit upon its path of development through the materialities, or there comes an ending of the weaving at the wholly opposite end of the materialities, in places where the density and the heaviness become unbearable for the spiritual spark, and under this heaviness it must lose its consciousness

In both cases it is the moment when only then the hands of the exalted Vaenen cease to weave the carpet of the life of the human spirit, for in that moment he is cast out from the framework of the Subsequent Work of Creation

He is cast out either upward, in that his radiance bore him into the Primordial Creation, where the brightly shining flame of his spirit finds further application in blessed creating in the gardens of the spiritual worlds, or he is cast out downward, in that this direction bears within it for the spirit at the moment of the casting out the loss of self-consciousness, for through the working of the everywhere present Laws of Creation the spiritual spark is then drawn upward, and in this returning to the place whence it went forth it must at the same time lose its awareness, for partial unconsciousness and immaturity cannot maintain itself in the pressure of the Light and therefore burns away in it in a purifying process

Thus man has literally in his own hands his fate, his blessing or his destruction

No one else can intervene in his path so as to direct him elsewhere against his will

Always the strongest is the decision in the inner being of man, which either strives towards the Light, or through its manner of volition removes itself from the Light

Thus even if this volition were to take the form of a call for help, even if it were the most despairing entreaty in the awakening recognition of the evil in which the spirit took part, he may always rely upon it that immediately in that moment there are woven from his inner being threads directing themselves upward

Whether these threads, jetted forth out of a fervent entreaty to the Light for help, will suffice for the catching of the spirit in his fall, whether they will hold him back from his crashing into destruction, is always and only decided by the proportion of the forces to be found in the threads

It is always needful to know that all the threads woven by the Vaenen must one day return and be lived out

And precisely in this respect men cannot rely upon it that the gross material universe, which gives the foundation for the possibility of living out many returning threads, will be here lastingly at their disposal, that it will wait until they decide, after a long time of their wandering, to strive again towards the Light

The time for which there is here room for living upon this earth is bounded and cannot be held to be endless, for one day there will most certainly come the moment when the gross matter of the universe will exhaust the animistic forces anchored within it and will have to be drawn into the mill, into the funnel which will make possible its transformation into a dissolution into primordial particles, which will rise upward into the oceans in the gardens of Asgard, so as to draw there new animation and to be permitted to be used again for the new building up of gross material worlds

And of all this the greater part of men know nothing, however much there is anchored in it that most natural matter-of-factness and logic which holds good for all that arises in God's Work of Creation

The human spirit holds the helm of its direction, in which it journeys through the parts of the planes of the Subsequent Work of Creation which were granted to it as a place for its ripening

And because the Will of God is supremely Just, this symbolic helm is always only that most exact resultant of all the threads which have jetted forth in the form of the volition of man during the time of his journeys through the planes of the materialities

Out of this resultant the Justice of God, which Parzival holds in his hands as the administrator of the Work of Creation in the Castle of the Grail, can then recognise exactly within a single moment whether the human spirit is on the path towards the Light, or is sinking ever more into destruction

The threads which the Vaenen are always ready to bring to him for the judging of this or that spirit, whom He as the Judge in the Holy Judgment of God calls by his spiritual name, under which he is inscribed in the book of life, have the most delicate power of testimony concerning the livingness or lifelessness, concerning the good volition or the evil volition of man

The prevailing volition which has drawn near to a certain boundary in regard to the further development of the materialities in the Subsequent Creation, whether it be in the direction upward or downward, bears within itself at the given moment the verdict upon the further path of the spirit

This holds good not only for a single man, but in one single moment the Judge beholds with his gaze the state of all mankind, in that his radiant Ray creates a higher pressure for the manifesting of the threads bound to all men

In one single flash of the Ray of Parzival all mankind is disclosed in its maturity, immaturity or over-ripeness

The vibration of the Ray of Parzival brings a pressure which is like judging strokes, in which everything in the threads is set into accelerated movement, and thereby it is at once clearly to be seen what and in what manner is still strung upon the path of this or that spirit

This happening is not the work of the judgment of one volition of man in the short time of his earthly life, but is always the result of the kind of threads of his whole long existence in repeated lives, out of which everything is gathered by the weaving of the Vaenen, who have carefully caught it all and also with the greatest carefulness administer it for each single spirit for further development

That which was to be lived out has already been brought to man, and he in the experiencing of that which returned gave then new threads to be woven exactly according to that with which he received the returning threads in the form of the impulses of his inner being

Thus there always arises out of the one thing which returns another new thing, exactly according to the manner in which the spirit receives and experiences that old thing which returns to him

In the experiencing of how the spirit receives that which returns to him there forms itself at once the new prospect of his path

Blessed are they who receive it with humility and in patience, without murmuring, who do not seek in it the cause from without, who do not seek the grounds of their experiencing in other men, or in an ungracious fate, but only and solely in themselves

To them it will be granted to loosen the threads far more easily, and out of their impulses, in which they receive that which returns, there may then arise to life for them new threads leading them upward, towards the Light

Thus the great working operates everywhere around each single man, without his knowing perhaps even the least of it

It remains a mystery for the greatest part of men, and so they stagger along their paths of life like blind men who wander upon false ways

In reality, however, it is all supremely simple and evident in the most transparent perfect Justice which rules over it and gives to it the order which does not permit even the smallest chance in the very returning of the threads already formed

Nor does anything of these threads ever come to man without a forewarning of its return

There are here the conditions of birth, which indicate the direction and the goal of the given earthly life, there is here the working of the stars, there is here also that supremely precious possibility of symbolic atonement, as a gift which always goes before, with the possibility of atoning beforehand for all that returns, in the awakened pure volition of man

This pure all-embracing volition always brings at once the dissolving of the strength of the threads before the experiencing itself reaches man in its full force

Man is surrounded by so many helps that he does not even suspect what measure of Love streams to him unceasingly in support, that he may come through everything and turn to account his experiencing of the returning threads towards the maturity of the spirit, towards the ascent

Thus man may picture to himself the ray of a thread in which he caused something unlovely to someone of those near to him

We may give here an example

Let us say that he himself caused another man difficulties in life through a slander which he spread about him

The thread woven out of it flies exactly according to the strength of his volition which was laid into it

It flies as far as the places of ethereal materiality, where out of it the Alphar weave the preparation for the possible sojourn of the soul, should this depart from the earth sooner than it might be permitted to live out this thread in return while still in the gross material body

From there, however, after its anchoring in the hands of the Alphar, it returns and offers the possibility of the living out in return still in the given earthly life of man

If it finds him in the earthly body, then it offers him beforehand the possibility on several occasions to experience the ugliness of such dealing, when the one concerned may exert himself for the setting right of the slander of some other man who is accused in a similar spirit as he himself once did

If, however, the returning thread did not manage in wisdom to find the right setting for a corresponding experiencing, and the soul of the man concerned has meanwhile left its earthly body, then there awaits him, if he has not meanwhile changed for the better, or on the contrary slid still further towards the worse, the place created by the Alphar, to which he will have to journey and to live out its ugliness in the form of a swampy landscape which has no bottom and in which everything sinks ever lower and lower into the depth of sticky, stinking matter

If the soul here comes to progress, then there will be offered to it a way to atonement, when in the next life it will be brought again into a similar experiencing, so that it may prove whether it stands firm therein

Meanwhile it will also be able to draw near to the soul which it harmed, in order in some way to ask it for forgiveness, if that other soul experienced therein a bitterness of disappointment which it was not yet able to forgive beforehand, so that both souls may advance further in their development

There are, however, many further possibilities which come into consideration, for here there always plays a great part that setting of the helm of the volition of the individual man

In the threads of the Vaenen everything is living, and with each single strong volition of the spirit the threads are at once set anew, and then in their vibration they patiently await the opportunity to bring the experiencing for atonement

Not all threads can be so set that everything returns to man at once without delay, as many a one would surely wish, that he might be free as soon as possible

Often a longer time passes before it is possible in the highest wisdom to join all that is needful into the further earthly path of man, for his continuing upon the way

Also many souls choose an earthly life even with this, that riches or beauty are from their view in the ethereal a secondary thing, only in order that they may be permitted to lay aside those most important threads which hinder them upon their further path towards the Light

Alas, upon earth they then remember nothing of it, and under the influence of other men they let themselves be drawn into further follies out of which there then arise for them only new threads for atonement, instead of fulfilling that most important thing for the sake of which they came to earth for their progress and ascent

Thus it would be possible to speak of it endlessly, for as many as are the single men, so many are the wholly unique paths, which have out of the threads woven by the Vaenen exactly all that is needful for the experiencing of the spirit, so that he may always, from every place, strive for the ascent towards the Light

It is possible here, however, only to repeat that the keeping of the hearth of one's impulses and thoughts in purity and in joyful striving is the best equipment of man for the overcoming of all the threads which will yet arise, or which have already been formed and which will still have to return to him

There is no stronger ruler over his own fate than man himself

The Laws of Creation working lastingly around him will always bring to him only that to which he himself through his volition gave the cause for arising

The exalted Vaenen will be to him a support in it through their work, for which they were called to conscious life upon the summit of the animistic gardens of Asgard
