The Vicious Circle of Earthly Mankind

With a certain pain, yet at the same time with incomprehension, the animistic servants look upon the present state of mankind

Above all the Alphar, these faithful shapers of matter, stand above mankind in silent oppression

They look upon the present radiation of men as upon the starting point of the weaving which they must project into new forms, which thereafter pour over from the finer degree of the astral plane into the actual gross material reality, which mankind is then compelled to accept as the manifestation of the further development of events

They see how the threads, in which the hitherto spiritual sleep of most men is exactly mirrored, are forming under the effect of the luminous pressure as a growing wall which will bring a tremendous impact

They see how the collision of the wilful human severance from the great harmony of Creation with the effects of the strengthened Laws of this Creation can no longer be prevented by any conciliatory way

They also see what they themselves will have to form in this collision of disproportionate forces, and what happenings of fate hover above each single man

That which is already forming in the ethereal around every man cannot in its result be changed by any power, however mighty, so that it should not in the end penetrate also into his own visible experiencing in gross materiality

Only in the gross material form do men catch it and recognise it, but even then not always, and by no means sufficiently in time

Thus even in the visible forms of the earthly kind many men, in the sleep of their spirit, will not perceive it, but on the contrary will always ascribe their difficulties to the erroneous supposition that others are to blame for the desperate state of their life

The majority will never wish to recognise in it, nor to admit to themselves, that their life is the work of the inward state of their spirit, whether this state be given by indolent superficiality or also by an immaturity which manifests itself in grave errors in human judgments about the meaning of earthly life

However much the greatest number of men will reject anything of the kind and will rather strive to judge or to persecute their fellow men, the state which touches their experiencing of discontent, of pain or of ruin will always be the result of themselves alone

And under the increasing pressure of the Light this state will only grow denser and will thus work difficulties everywhere where the soil for it is prepared by man through his wrong inner attunement

It will manifest itself in unrest and discontent even there where until now a state of separation from society could still temporarily prevail, where in seclusion and in a deliberate flight from men many strove to create for themselves their own world as the refuge of an island in a stormy sea

The unprecedentedly intensifying brightness of the Light, working through the labour of the Alphar upon the manifesting of the inner being of man, does not look to where man may happen to be, but to what his real inward state is

Therefore even if men were to hide beneath the ground, to conceal themselves in the depths under mighty mountains, or to strive to flee into the remotest uninhabited corners of the earthly world, everywhere there also their own inner being will find them, which under the hands of the Alphar becomes an experienced reality

However varied the forms it will take, in the end it will always fall upon man exactly as he himself has prepared it by the hitherto attunement of his volition

It is only and solely his own recent state which has closed in around him and stifles him if the sowing was not right, or which strengthens him and helps him if purity and a joyful helping of others penetrated into his volition

Nothing happens otherwise than that the spirit is the creator of its own ensuing experiences, which return back to it ever more swiftly

And just as the cause of all this lies in one single starting point, namely in man, so there is also only one single way to mitigate everything at the last moment, or perhaps even to turn it aside altogether

This single way, and also the single executor who can change it all towards a lessening of the impact, is again only each man himself for himself

He himself holds in his hands all the possibilities of weakening at the last moment, through his newly reborn pure approach to life, the heaviest blows of his fate and of letting the possibilities of a symbolic compensation of his earlier failings be woven

Yet with every further day this possibility grows smaller, and the impact of the returning sowing seems already to be unavoidable

With a certain oppression, but also with the expectation of their own liberation from the necessity of weaving impurity and baseness as hitherto, the weavers and the shapers of the human threads of fate look upon all that is already coming

The Holy Judgment of God upon man and upon mankind

What is contained in it the earthly thinking of man cannot rightly discern even with the greatest effort

It lacks in this the all-embracing quality which is bound up with it and which does not concern only this gross material world here, but reaches precisely into all the planes of the existence of the human spirit

The receptivity limited by the day-consciousness of man may be called immensely harmful and insensitive, for it is always closely bound up with the brain, which lacks the delicacy of perceiving for everything that lies above this material field of activity of men here

Although the spirit of man itself is perhaps here and there still capable of a higher receptivity, here in the earthly world this receptivity of his is enveloped in the density of the thought-consciousness of the intellect, in which everything essential for the spirit is lost, and the inner being thus hastens towards lukewarmness and indolent sleep

With almost every man it is truly so

It must be so, for otherwise men would surely pay many times more heed to their impulses, to their expressions, and to all that happens around them

The receptivity towards everything that happens around man would, in its heightened irradiation by the spirit, become finer in its judgments, and at the same time the ways of conduct would also swiftly raise themselves towards a higher wisdom which surpasses the hitherto bounds of human reflection about the world around

And precisely that is the vicious circle in which an enormous number of earthmen are tossed about

Their dullness does not permit them to perceive the finer vibrations of purity and of nobility of character which can always be expressed in every intuitive perception, in every thought and in every deed

Through the way men are attuned in their dullness towards all that is noble, there must then be laid around them, in the Law of Reciprocal Action, ever further circles of experiencing, which however with their pressure draw them into a more ponderous struggle for daily bread

And this struggle is again only a setting of conditions for which these men seek a solution in a new dullness and coarseness in their approach to events and above all to their fellow men

It is like the ever deepening manifestations of drunkenness in a man dependent upon alcohol

In a state of heavy intoxication the animistic servants can weave nothing beautiful, but on the contrary they weave only forms of dim shapelessness, often unlovely, indeed dreadful, because the state of the thinking and of the intuitive perceiving of a man thus gone astray does not permit them to weave anything other than confused and disfigured forms of intuitive perception and of thought

These forms then remain around the man even in the time of some brighter moment of his sobering, and at once they assail him with an importunate cruelty with which they seek again to drive him to flee from the state of despair and hopelessness only into a further use of alcohol, in which their mocking cruelty seemingly relents in part

And thus it repeats itself with such an unhappy man again and again, and for the most part it goes only ever deeper, until his body can no longer bear the burden of the damage and, through the failure of one of its organs, renounces the further possibility of holding together the soul body with the spiritual spark

Thus it comes at last to the complete earthly end, which often shortens the gift of life by many precious years

Many a dependent man, in the despair of his state, even expects that this release from the earthly world will perhaps bring him change and liberation

Through the departure, however, no possibility of any further improvement arises, but on the contrary everything is still stronger, for the coverings of the soul body are thereafter more equivalent to that which was created by man in his confused thoughts and intuitive perceptions

The one concerned is then wholly swallowed up by his own world, and for a long time no opportunity is given him to perceive anything of a different kind and brighter than that which he himself formed through his earlier unwatchfulness, with which he gave his hand to substances whose effect upon earth he had never known and could therefore not estimate how easily his bodily organism would yield to their influence

For a long, long time the soul must then, in great battles with its own world, gain step by step the promise of liberation, if indeed it is still capable of it at all

And just as it happens to the unhappy ones who have lost the dominion over themselves in an insatiable surrender to the intoxication of alcohol or of other narcotic substances with similar effects upon the loss of self-command, so almost exactly the same happens to a man if in the indolence of his spirit he falls into a narrow circle of thought-forms which surround him and permit him no inner uplifting towards a better, purer volition in regard to other men and to the world

And these coarse, worn ruts hold billions of men in an attunement from which they can no longer free themselves otherwise than by a strong jerk, which alone makes possible a distancing from the hitherto cycle of their own thought-attunement

This, however, is by no means a simple happening, for just as men dependent upon narcotic substances and upon alcohol often erroneously suppose that if they will it they will give up such a way of life with ease, so exactly the same happens to men who long maintain their own thought-attunement and suppose that they will easily become better if for some reason it should be needful

That this is a wholly erroneous supposition will be swiftly confirmed to them by a test which they may undergo by setting within themselves, for example for a single week only, the condition of remaining always and under all circumstances only in pure thoughts and in joyful inner impulses towards the outer world of men

Very swiftly they will recognise how weak they actually are within themselves, and how the worn ruts of their established thinking drag them back without permitting them to hold for any longer the new, purer and nobler direction of their volition

Whoever tries it will find that it is a struggle which not seldom demands all the powers of concentration upon the maintaining of pure and unprejudiced thoughts

Through this struggle, if it is honest and truly experienced, the direction of the new path gradually grows stronger, and sooner or later the liberation succeeds

It is, however, far from so easy in this time of the general dragging down of all the more virtuous impulses of man into the dust of mockery and of defilement

Therefore there has thereby come about the forming of a vicious circle out of which it is not given to spiritually lukewarm and weak men to step at all

The circle winds itself about mankind and does not permit anything higher to penetrate to it which would raise it to a new breath and to liberation from the state of a stifling gloom

Not one of the earthly forms, nor any verbal concept, nor even the pictures bound up with these concepts, has any longer sufficient power for a new upswing of human society

Everything has already been seized by human hands through which the darkness worked, and thereby the strengthening power was emptied out, which in the end had to show itself as a dragging down leading away from the Light, instead of an upswing towards the Light

And the purest, the most sublime concepts were not exempted from this dragging down, indeed the darkness, through single men and through the masses, desecrated even the highest concept of the Divinity, just as the sublime and pure intuitive perception of human trust in the Truth, Goodness and Love was trampled underfoot

Thus for the majority of men the concepts of virtues and of values have sunk into a state of mistrust and often also of derision, or even of wrathful contempt

This is because all the hitherto forms and pictures suffered, in the hands of men serving evil or of immature men, the destruction of their original precious inner values

Everything is corroded and drawn on to the soil of mistrust or of the incomprehension of human wrecks dulled in their intuitive perception

Therefore man now needs for his awakening an unprecedented inner strength, which not seldom is renewed in a heavy, painful experiencing, when under the harsh blow of the happening everything hitherto is shattered and there is no longer in man any ground for further suppositions of his own greatness springing from earthly securities and from pride in them

Yet this experiencing is not needful at all, for in order to step out of the vicious circle man bears within himself the power which lies in the renewal of his spiritual receptivity

The spiritual inner being, if it is given the possibility of taking part in expression at all the moments of the day, swiftly finds for itself, through its childlikeness and its pure joy in being in the full perceiving of the surrounding world, the way to a lasting intuitive experiencing of everything that accompanies man through life

Thereby the gloomy ethereal surroundings gradually dissolve, and the spirit again makes luminous its outlook upwards towards the finer planes, from which strengthening and support draw near to it continually on its path towards the Light

Suddenly it is able to behold all the concepts of the virtues in a newly purified recognition, through which there flows to it anew a trust in the existence of a higher order of things, issuing from the Wisdom of God, from the Justice and Love of God

Again there can then awaken in the spirit a genuineness towards a kindly conduct in regard to other men

But his vigilance for the recognising of all the manifestations of spiritual unfreedom and of oppression will also become luminous

The spirit which has been permitted to revive in its openness towards the radiant rays of the Light perceives in intensified measure everything wherein earthly mankind stands wrongly

And as a part of the mobility of the spirit it will also become something natural to take one's stand always on the side of honourableness and of truthfulness everywhere where this is needed

A genuine spiritual becoming luminous in man will always work for the Truth and for the Light, be it in the greatest or in the smallest expression

Yet it will work peacefully and objectively with a wise detachment, for at the same time it will bear within itself the living recognition of its own walking upon false paths before its spirit came alive and awakened more

This will lend him considerateness and kindly graciousness towards all who around him may be striving for the improvement of the conditions of the world, but who lack, for the right advance towards the goal, the key of the recognition of the Laws of God and of their manifestations in the most varied forms and attunements

It is for man a grace of the atonement of his own earlier straying if he can show patience and self-conquest in an expression of graciousness towards others at moments when in his inner being the spirit already glows with a clearer recognition and thus beholds in others many insufficiencies and slownesses in their advance forward in their awakening out of sleep

But only patience with others affords a precious maturity to one's own spirit, which in reality thereby receives far more than man in his day-consciousness can experience

It is also the fundamental starting point for the severing of the whole vicious circle in which mankind finds itself and out of which it cannot come otherwise than through the impacts of a happening of the animistic kind, in which at the same time there is need of the gracious support of those who have themselves already awakened sufficiently to a clearer recognition of the real working of the Light in this time on earth

But there are many impatient men who possess a portion of recognition and who long to shake men strongly and roughly, so that these may awaken, or else be cast away as condemned and incorrigible apostates from God and from His work of Creation

Thereby they only manifest their own immaturity, for the severing of the vicious circle will come through the exactly advancing happening led by God the Father himself

Where impatience shows itself in men with recognition, there it is often overlooked wherein they themselves can really help and thereby to a certain degree naturally hasten together the advance of the approaching wall of Light, in which alone lies the liberation and the way out of the state in which mankind finds itself today

The great change of life for the better, still awaited by men, cannot come otherwise than that single men place themselves unconditionally on the side of good, and this through their pure and noble approach to everything that meets them daily, no matter whether it be good or evil

They are to turn their noble countenance towards everything, for only thereby can there also be gradually severed among men that further enduring vicious circle of expecting a change in others as the condition for an improvement of one's own view of them

The words of Jesus are to come alive in a new upswing of the inner powers, in which at the same time there lies hidden a great help from the Light

The turning of one's countenance towards all the difficulties in which the inwardly awakened man is always to stand, in a pure and vigilantly objective attunement of his spirit as well as of his intellect, gives the answer to the question how the world of today can change for the better

On the side of us men, solely by the way of an inner becoming luminous and of an ennobling

That is the work which contains the great promise in the words: “Man, help thyself first, and God will help thee”

In this there is surely reflected exactly the efficacy of the Laws of God in Creation

There can be no help where the will to movement within oneself is lacking

Only in the primary living work of the spirit lies the promise of blessed helps from the Light, from God

And even if it were to mean falling a thousand times first and rising again before man recognises that he is beginning to succeed, then even in this the highest wisdom is contained, for the support of the Light comes lawfully only there where the soil has undergone a firming and thereby a confirmation that the will to change is lasting and earnestly willed

Whoever calls at once for help, although out of himself he has not yet shown even the smallest honest volition, cannot expect that he will succeed

He must surely first change, by his own will of the spirit, his ethereal surroundings, so that the forms woven by the Alphar may receive the power for a transformation of that which can surround him as gleams of the promise of a new advance forward

But at the same time nothing of the good shown by man is lost

Even the smallest volition works as threads which can link themselves to the supports descending from the heights of Light, and in this there lies already the promise of a great blessing which may in the end save more than one man in the moment of his judgment upon the scales of God's just measuring of his hitherto existence

Every single movement of the spirit is precious, and men should experience joy that they can meet with something of the kind in themselves or in others in an expression of purity and of inner greatness at some moment of deciding

The gleams of an intuitively perceiving approach in the moments of the present are today like delicate droplets of the refreshing shimmer of small precious stones

Let us hold them precious and take heed to their multiplying, for they are the talents with which we are to learn to husband among one another

In reality it is not hard, indeed it is easier than we can picture to ourselves today

To bestow a strengthening in a good word, a support in upholding the right decision of one's fellow man, a shared joy in the happiness he experiences, all this is the real existence of the spirit on its path towards the Light, towards the spiritual home

In this it is needful to strengthen and to encourage one another, so that the spiritual riches among men may again be multiplied

However small and insignificant it may seem in the grave time of today, which demands a great change in man, in this there is already contained a real power which has the might to break the curse of the vicious circle and thereafter to change this world for the better

At the same time the animistic servants will bring to the earth a multitude of experiences which will shake the crusted souls of inwardly sleeping men

It will come, and it will call forth upheaving happenings

And men with the recognition of the Truth are then to stand inwardly become luminous, so that they may hold their ground not only for themselves, but so that through their wise kindliness they may show the direction towards a new vista for the earthly world

Whoever longs for the Kingdom of the Peace of God needs today to work with his intuitive perception in every moment of the day

Everywhere where he is, he is to be a bearer of human dignity and of nobility of character in all the expressions and forms which belong to it

However inconspicuous and insignificant man may seem to himself in comparison with the greatness of the human world, his inner as well as his outer life bears within it the power to break through the vicious circle which has hitherto held mankind in its grip

The power of his pure volition is the most precious thing that he can now use for himself and also bestow upon his fellow men
