The Trojan Horse of the Present Day

“And amid the great celebration of their victory over the enemy, who had all at once and unexpectedly withdrawn, the crowds surrounded the structure of the wooden horse, which stood there like a strange offering of the long war of conquest

In their self-deafening enthusiasm many resolved to move the horse into the city as a trophy of their victory over the Greeks, who were nowhere any longer to be seen

Not the least heed was paid to the voice of those few hesitant ones who had warned against it beforehand

Among those who warned against such a deed was also the daughter of Priam, Cassandra

According to her warning the horse was to be set alight, so that it might burn where it now stood

With this there agreed also those who perceived that the structure did not stand there merely so, for no reason at all

These few divined in their subconscious that it was a ruse coming from Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who was known as one endowed with an ingenious inventiveness and cleverness such as perhaps no other man on earth bore within himself at that time

Yet who among the rejoicing gave heed to these solitary voices setting themselves against their intention

Mockery and also malice were the answer to all hesitation and all warning

And when one of the dissenting priests even sought to strike the wooden figure with a spear, great serpents suddenly appeared out of the sand beneath the horse and swiftly smothered him with their long bodies

For the crowds something of that kind was a more than plain sign that no one was to hinder their decision, which was already made

The throng of the enthusiastic harnessed themselves to the massive wooden structure upon wheels and with jubilation drew it through the gate into the city

Who would fear a lifeless horse when nowhere was there any longer a trace of the adversaries

The naively exhilarated people extolled the notion that the horse would serve them as a visible protection against any attacks of all enemies to come

The wooden idol was to be their support for the life to come

This vision they wished to keep, and at the same time they nourished the thought of what it might be were the horse to become the guarantee of all their further victories

With this horse surely they too could subjugate foreign cities or nations

Everything fitted together beautifully of itself, and the bulging wooden eyes seemed to approve such thoughts

Thus after long celebrations and odes of praise about the clear confirmation of their superiority over the enemy, the city, overcome with intoxication, fell silent, and over proud Troy there spread a belt of dark night

And then suddenly in the dark body a hidden trapdoor opened…”

These words describe the ancient story of the fall of a primeval city which paid the price for its frivolity

Although its inhabitants supposed that they had conquered, in the end the whole city fell and had to live through the horror of destruction

The epic appears as an ancient picture of the conduct of the nations of olden times

But alas, the great weakness resting in exactly the same naivety of men holds good today also

It may be said that today it holds good even more than before

Once again a ruse has been laid here by a merciless enemy

It is a ruse which the foolish majority does not recognise

Again as then, the warning call is today also made light of and derided

Just as Troy fell in a single night under the blows of the enemy, so the majority of men today move towards a bitter awakening from the shallowness of their foolish reasonings

The present warnings are therefore meant only for those who wish to hear, for no one else are they here

For all others the words are not intended

Only to those who wish to hear is a picture offered here for reflection which is outwardly wholly different from the present ordering of the world, yet the essence of the principle remains contained within it

A trap that has been laid will always remain a trap, however varied the outward forms it wears

So today too many people draw into the nearness of their person a wily voice which speaks enticing words

The voice speaks in such a way as gradually and unnoticed to win attention and trust for everything it imparts

But in the moment when it has won the complete trust of its listeners, only then does it assert its rule in everything

It utterly confuses a man so that he may serve it, and where this does not take the form of a voluntary submission, there it uses its influence for the weakening or even for the social destruction of such a rebellious individual

All this is yet to come

Today we stand at the moment when the horse, figuratively speaking, is being drawn amid its glorification through the gates of the present world of men

Whoever, unlike the majority, sees this and warns against it is mocked, an impure volition is imputed to him, evil thoughts are ascribed to him

What foolishness lies in this will only yet be shown

These are in part already the first effects of the cunning woven into it, which goes hand in hand with all the inventiveness of the intellect

He who sees something other than do the beguiled crowds must surely himself be bad

His warning comes only out of his wrong attitude

Just so it fared also with all those who warned against all the cunning of Lucifer

The men subject to him always sought with all their strength to shake the credibility of those who did not join them in extolling ways that led only downwards, into spiritual need and misery

This time, however, the visible consequences of all the wrong ways woven by the cunning of the intellect will come swiftly to manifestation

All this is brought about by the effect of the radiation of the Ray of Parzival, which pulses only just above this earth

All the wrongly directed decisions of men will now under this pressure be driven to an accelerated manifestation, so that their unhealthy fruit may be plain

It will truly come in an accelerated happening

It will thereby be a great pity that many otherwise good people will be struck by it and also quite needlessly entangled in the threads of the necessary consequences

Many people could have guarded themselves against these threads had they only stood more on watch with their intuitive perception

They could simply and with ease have passed it all by as something foreign to them, something that could not have intruded into their life had they given it no attention and not let it work upon their weaknesses, to which belongs precisely that so greatly underestimated spiritual immaturity showing itself in naivety in reasoning and in thinking through all the consequences

Spiritual immaturity and the naivety arising out of it is today of necessity the visible consequence of a long-standing falling behind in spiritual work, which shows itself in a man's clarified intuitive perception

Few among men admit that spiritual unwatchfulness, and thus naivety in many matters of life on earth, is a mark of an insufficient receptivity of the intuitive perception

Although there is talk of intuition and of intuitive perceiving, there is still no understanding of what the intuitive perception really is

It is not merely a receptivity for the pain and the privation of others through kindliness and the longing to help, although all this is naturally an inseparable part of intuitive perceiving, but it is precisely also the capacity for a living perceiving of all the connections that surround a man in his life

The recognition of the differences between the Laws of Creation, which bear within themselves the Will of God, and the ordering of the existing world of men

Not, however, so that a man should remain in resistance towards this world or in contempt for it, but precisely so that through the receptivity of his intuitive perceiving he may be able to seek and to find the right ways for a fully spiritual and creative life

Through his wakeful intuitive perceiving a man can and shall become one who strives for all the ideals for life on earth

Whoever does not perceive this with sufficient wakefulness in the highest liveliness will sooner or later let himself be influenced in some way by the outer world, will set out upon such a path, and will thereby of necessity weave into his threads of fate kinds of radiation which he will one day have to lay aside in order to become spiritually free

Unwatchfulness in intuitive perception embraces many varied kinds of conduct in which mistakes are made in a man's decisions

Put in common speech, a man makes mistakes in his decisions which he afterwards regrets and which are afterwards not so easy to turn back to the better

Here belongs naivety, which, although it is often exercised in the best volition, leads to great damage

We may therefore speak precisely of an unripe and naive approach as a grave danger for man where it is a question of the cunning snares laid by Lucifer in the path of human spirits upon their wandering through Subsequent Creation

And the principle of temptation always uses the most cunning of ways towards men

The essence of a ruse rests in this, that at first it is not noticed at all by the majority of men

When it then reveals itself, it is usually far too late for any change

It goes without saying, therefore, that every new form of ruse laid into the world by the tempter will not be recognised at first, and that men in their naivety will suppose that it is nothing that threatens them with evil consequences

Therefore every warning admonition is also often overlooked, or even derided, or in irritation persecuted

Almost nothing can be done about this, for the spiritual immaturity of men on earth is still a very widespread weakness of the majority

For such people, therefore, it makes no sense that anything should be impressed upon them against their will

Something of that kind is not in place, because the Light does not work in that way

The Light admonishes, yet it does not compel a man to heed its counsel or its warnings

In learning to use the gift of free will men need to make it their own to decide of themselves

By their attitudes such people only confirm that they still need a further experience, or even several experiences, which will follow as the necessary reciprocal experiencing of their wrong decisions, in which the wakefulness of a healthy intuitive perceiving was lacking

And yet intuitive perceiving is proper to the human spirit always in the very simplest of connections

It holds literally that men need to put together that one and one make two

In life this then shows itself in that wherever something new appears, this new thing is first to be examined with the intuitive perception, that is by a man asking whom, what and why the given thing serves, and this not only in what lies upon the visible plane but also deeper, that is beneath the surface

A factual examination joined with intuitive perceiving must surely have led the above-mentioned inhabitants of Troy to see that structures such as a wooden horse upon wheels are not built so that someone may hold them for an offering to the gods, but with some intention which, although not visible at first sight, is to be the object of earnest examination, and this until that intention is recognised down to the smallest details

But this always demands effort, and therefore time and strength, if a man wishes to know something new for himself down to its very essence and not merely to form a picture on the basis of other people's descriptions

Of course this may lead many a one to say that in that case he has not time enough to examine the many things of today which with every year are wholly new to him

In that case, however, it holds that he may give such a thing up, whether for a time or for good, if he is not sure what follows from it for him in the sense of the Laws of God

If nevertheless he decides to use this or that for himself, or moreover to offer it to other people without himself knowing all the connections, then he cannot wonder that from that moment threads of fate demanding expiation at once begin to unwind for him, threads which are always governed by the effects of the Laws of God

Thus it holds, as indeed it has for whole millennia, that restraint and sufficient sound examination always come before any foolish rushing towards unknown things which, though outwardly they may appear at their beginning as a gain and an improvement of the conditions of life on earth, yet in the wider connections stand in sharp opposition to the development that swings according to the predestination of the Will of God

A healthy intuitive perceiving is therefore the best armament, which a man is to use in his approach to everything unknown or new to him

No such complicated deliberations are needed in this as might appear in view of the manifold confusions of the present time

A healthy intuitive perceiving can always lead only to what may be called simple restraint and a wakeful observing of the connections

Although such a man may perhaps appear in the eyes of naive and superficial people rushing towards everything new as a man of yesterday, what is always decisive is a man's relation to the eternal Laws of God rather than to the so-called revolutionary novelties of the age

Decisive and foremost is the relation to the eternity of being, and everything else stands only behind this relation

In proportion to the existence of the human spirit, earthly time is but an insignificant flicker in his whole experiencing

It is therefore astonishing how much of precious spiritual existence is sacrificed by men in their naivety to the wearisome laying aside of wholly needless threads of fate, which must always of necessity appear if something in a man's life is wrongly set and if through it he comes into conflict with the harmony of the whole accord of the work of Creation

Many human spirits lag behind in their degree of maturity, and therefore they still lack the right and sure intuitive discernment in those matters which are plain from the first moments to all spiritual personalities that swing higher and thereby more maturely when they meet with something new

Mature spirits cannot be caught so easily by the cunning of the tempter's snares as are those who are still too far behind and who approach life superficially or naively

The snares of Lucifer can thus work devastatingly only in the ranks of those who still lag behind in their maturity

The Love of God, however, helps all

Therefore it often points out beforehand all the snares which lurk skilfully masked in the human world on earth

The help resting in the reminder to wakefulness can, however, find ground only there where a man's intuitive perception is already more living in an acquired mobility

Where the spirit sleeps, or where the overcultivated intellect holds the upper hand in a man, there the cunning snares take effect with a surprising ease

Out of this there then arises much damage, which with the vortex of its impact drags down not only the individual but in part strikes also those around him

Therefore in the time of the devastation of Troy by the cunning Greeks led by Odysseus many of those inhabitants of the city had also to suffer with the rest who of themselves would never have drawn the wooden horse within the walls of the city

And it is exactly the same in the case of every new ruse laid for unwatchful human spirits in the present time

And yet it would never have to be so

Only a little inward living movement, and the cunningly laid traps, the Trojan horses of the present day, could remain outside the walls of those people who use their healthy intuitive perceiving

Thus that eternal question still sounds over mankind: when will men at last learn better and begin to be guided first and foremost by their clarified perceiving?

The answer to it hovers near

The awakening will come, but it will first be bought with the bitterness of experiencing foolishly naive mistakes

Everything will change for the better in the time of the onset of the great spiritual enlightenment, which happily is already not far off

Before this enlightenment comes with all the beneficence that rests within it, however, many human destinies will evidently still have to sink deep into the necessity of expiating wholly needless threads of fate

The Ray of Parzival, however, bears the great message of the end of all temptation and of all cunning, which in the inertia of the fading away of the principle of the fallen archangel still take effect here on earth

Whoever therefore holds out in wakefulness and also in the highest tensing of the powers of his spirit will be gifted by the Ray of Parzival with a great strengthening towards an unprecedented certainty of clarified perceiving of everything that rightly swings in accord with the primordially eternal Will of God in the work of Creation

May there be as many such people as possible
