The Time of Breaking For the Decision of the Spirit

Great periods which shook the accustomed manner of life have for millennia always brought to men on Earth the possibility of an accelerated progress in their spiritual ripening

Thus the present time also bears within itself equally great opportunities for everyone

The shaking of the existing forms of the manner of life calls forth today in many a man ever greater fears and restless sleep

Yet this can be only there where men are excessively bound solely to certainties of an earthly kind

The collapse of the accustomed brings for many in reality a liberation from fetters which had been laid upon them without their being aware of them

Let us but reflect rightly: if in the work of Creation something of that which exists collapses under the pressure of the strengthening Light, then we may have full confidence that the Wisdom of God has at the same time made ready new ways, new prospects

It holds good therefore for everyone that the collapse of the old can be overcome by a trustful taking hold of the new, which by the All-Wisdom from the Light has likewise already been made ready

For the comprehension of that new which now stands before mankind, the inner being of man needs to awaken

The men of today need to find in their inner being the awakening of trust in the helps of God in Creation

All the shaking of the existing flow of life is therefore gradually to be balanced in man by a sure trust in the Wisdom of God and the Justice of God, which is always contained in everything for everyone and which until now was only for a great part of mankind veiled by the severance of the self-centred intellect

Many men today, however, cannot even so much as imagine that they could trust in such a thing as the working of God around them and within them

They laugh at it, or else they take fright at it, if it sounds forth somewhere in their nearness

They regard such a thing as a weakness, they regard it as the consequence of a failure of their own intellectual education, were they to admit such a thing

They do not divine that they are already so very near to the important breaking point which will bring them to the necessity of a decision

In the intellect of many a man there is still built up today a wall which appears insurmountable

Men bow down before this wall and fear it, and the surmounting of it they regard as impossible

But this wall is shaking, and serious cracks are arising in it

Within, some already divine that it signifies the need to advance towards a higher receptivity and intuitive perceiving, with which alone it is possible to find within oneself something more certain, more full of meaning

A part of mankind gropingly, unknowingly seeks trust in such a thing as a higher order of things working around us

At the same time they fear that if it is God and His Will, it must necessarily deprive them of the freedom and the liberty their life has had until now

They do not realise that it is only the defiance of their intellect which fears that its dominion of wilfulness will fall, and that it is precisely the intellect which in thoughts urges them to a stiff resistance against accepting something higher

Under this pressure of the intellect there takes place in the inner being of many a man a struggle with himself

Victory in the struggle seems unattainable, the fight grows ever harder and ever heavier

Yet in reality it is not in the least difficult, for in man there needs only to be fulfilled that ultimate breaking point which leads to the breaching of the wall built up by the manner of thinking formed by the preponderance of the intellect over the intuitive perception

The important breaking point lies therefore in the humbling of the intellectual defiance which will not give up the preponderance it has had until now

In the moment, however, when the inner being of man in a liberating flash finds the uplifting spiritual lightness and simplicity of a perceiving which stands high above intellectual earthliness, in that same moment there appears in the wall a small gate leading further

It is that shining gate leading into the new life

It is the gate of which Jesus, the Son of God spoke to those who listened two thousand years ago

These words His hearers of that time did not comprehend, and not even His nearest disciples

For millennia men did not know how to picture to themselves that passage into the new here on Earth

This passage lies in the breaking, when the spirit wins back for itself the place which was always to have belonged to it

The intuitive perception of man, in the pure fulfilment of the words of Jesus, needs to take up its place, which was always to have belonged to it above the intellect

The circumstances which will now come will bring fear and anxiety, but at the same time they will lead an ever greater number of men to ask after something higher

Thereby their spirit will gradually begin to make itself heard, and it will be able to take hold of the helping streams descending to the Earth from the heights of Creation

This descending of the helping streams is the consequence of the radiation of the Ray of Parzival, which is strengthening and brings unexpected transformations

It is likewise the consequence of the working of many spiritual helpers, who from now on will unite with the men who thus open themselves inwardly

Many men need to move forward in the knowledge of the meaning of their existence, which contains within itself the recognition that earthly life is only a small stretch of the path of the ascent of their spirit

For this they often need only a last experiencing, which will bring them to the breaking point, so that thereafter there may come that strong awakening of the intuitively perceiving, spiritual self

The spirit is not and cannot be bound so strongly in the earthly grip of the intellect as has precisely led mankind to a baleful summit in the last centuries

For many men, through this attunement, the whole value of everything is even today bound only to this small earthly world

Yet the only thing which has true worth for man is the spirit, the spiritual inner being, which in the unfolding of its gifts is to blossom into a pure humanity, wherein is contained all that men call enlightenment, happiness and ripened wisdom

Now we stand before the breaking point which awaits great hosts of earthmen

The coming months and years will bring for everyone the urgency of a decision

Before everyone stands the question that he should decide who he truly is

Whether he is a spiritual personality who longs to walk further in his spiritual development, or whether he continues to regard himself as merely a physically material individual

For one part of mankind this deciding will be easier than they themselves still suppose today

This because their inner spark still shines and is able to blaze up with a stronger radiance of a spiritual kind

With the other part it will be a great fight, for their inner, spiritual movement is almost destroyed, and they have laid all their strength into an outward, sensual existing

Be it the one part or the other, we are all now being moved by the happenings towards the great breaking point

The shaking of that which exists can be liberating for a great number of men

Therefore those who wish to belong to the Circles of the Peaceful are now to be prepared, so that with patience and with a bright inner flame they may help all who suddenly find themselves before the moment of their breaking point

Soon the time will come to go forth and, there where the soil is prepared for it in men, to show the way which will lead to the awakening of their spiritual inner being
