Earthman continually makes one mistake which, as a consequence of his striving, is a very grave one for him

This mistake influences the whole setting of his direction throughout the entire Subsequent Creation

Man has long been making this mistake in a certain wilfulness of his, and in so doing he supposes that he is walking rightly

Yet this can never be so, because in the present disposition of his thinking and of his perceiving of the world around him he resembles one who advances with covered eyes and, thus limited, strays and gropes and at best goes forward only by touch or through the surmising of his hearing or of his smell

All this is insufficient for him to walk in full value as he should, and thereby to experience the splendours of the world which permanently surrounds him and which was bestowed upon him by the Creator

This great mistake, which the human spirit on earth repeatedly commits in his wrong thinking, is the failure to accept the world of the animistic servants as a natural part of the work of Creation

Many men know nothing at all of these animistic servants and suppose that nature is the consequence of lifeless laws of the universe

Others have indeed heard a little about the animistic servants, but they do not wish to occupy themselves with it further and push it aside into an entirely secondary place in their lives

Still others regard them as delusions and fantasies of visionaries and of the mentally ill

There is also a part of men who have a certain awareness of the animistic servants, but their conceptions lead them only to expectations of their own, in which the animistic servants are, from their point of view, to stand under the dominion of man and should therefore fulfil his wishes and demands

If they do not do so, these men regard the animistic servants as failing and as working against the human spirit

For the majority, however, these servants belong to the realm of legends and fairy tales, and therefore they have no place for them in their “important human world of today”

It may be said here that a great part of men have in reality not even a little clear conception of the great creative and wise working of these faithful servants of Creation

All the striving of men in the recognising of the world of the animistic servants, and this also of those who mean it seriously and honestly, resembles a walking in dense fog

There is no clarity here, nor do we find here the confirmation of any real co-operation of these men with the animistic world

Everything is thus shifted into a state of a certain strained mistrust, which the intellect spreads ever further in thoughts and thereby skilfully creates doubts, out of which there then forms the heavy sigh of many a man, “Who knows how it all really is”

Many men after a time abandon their endeavour again and return to their real world of human haste in everyday life

That this error of earthly mankind is greater and far more serious than it has ever supposed for millennia will soon be recognised by that part of men who still awaken at the last moment and comprehend their great blunder, springing only from arrogance and from the complete severance of the intellect

Only a certain part of men will awaken in the recognition of the great error that has lasted until now

And this part will then honestly strive for the forming of a new connection with the animistic servants, so that these newly knowing men may save themselves and find a way out of the hard times on earth

The others will not come into consideration in any case

In order to be able to walk rightly through his life here on earth and also in the further planes of the work of Creation, man unconditionally needs to know the animistic servants and their work, for through their working they shape for him the path through the Subsequent Creation and lead him gradually upwards over the steps they have built, towards the spiritual home

Without them man would not even be man, with his earthly body and with all the coverings of the finer, soul-like and animistic kind

Without their work there would be here neither the gross material space of the universe nor the other parts which bear within themselves a greater fineness and lightness, out of which indeed all that is animistic creates and in which it works as in its original field of labour

Men have closed within themselves the capacity of receptivity for all that is finer and lighter, and thereby they have, among other things, also torn down the bridge leading to the world of the animistic servants

The intellect, in its long and purposeful effort, gradually suppressed the receptivity for all that is finer, and thereby all comprehension for the finer sections of Creation, to which the animistic precisely belongs, became entirely stunted in man

Thus it came already millennia ago to such a degree that the bridge leading to the animistic servants was on the side of men gradually severed more and more, and at last, in the rejection of these servants, it collapsed completely

The rejection of the animistic servants and of co-operation with them became for man long ago his fateful mistake, and all later generations on earth also bore the greater part of their hardships as a consequence of the earlier severance from the world of the animistic servants

Famines, diseases, privation under harsh climatic conditions, all this was, is and will always be the consequence of man's lack of co-operation with the high as well as with the small animistic servants, who work with their forces into the materialities

By not listening to their counsels and helps man has set for himself a far harder and more arduous way through the earthly world, for thus he lost the wise survey which the animistic world always has at hand for every situation

Thereby man remained alone with his conception that he knows everything better, and this at last brought him crop failure, hunger, suddenly emerging diseases, pests and also danger from wild animals

What has been mentioned above then often belongs among the great causes of unrest, of discontent, of violence and of wars in the history of mankind

In the end it brought only the great destruction of nature and of all that still remained pure and healthy within it

This phenomenon went with the advance of the spreading of intellectuality across all the continents, and even there where men still held for some time their connection with the animistic world, there later burst in hostilely disposed men of the intellect, who with a coarse hand tore this connection asunder

At last a complete victory was attained by the intellect, when the animistic working became incomprehensible to men and was once and for all relegated to the realm of the legends and fairy tales of naive people

The failure of mankind in this direction has come to its bitter end

The overlooking of the world of the animistic servants and its shunting aside had a great share also in the failure of the called nations in their important task for the service to the Light on earth

Especially the called nation around Parzival, when He dwelt on earth as the promised envoy of the Grail and the Son of Man, showed itself haughtily closed, and in its overlooking of the world of the animistic servants it thus prepared its own collapse, and this even though it otherwise knew the high values of the spiritual kind

The called did not heed the warning call of the Lord never to exalt themselves above the animistic helpers, but always to look upon them fervently and purely and to heed their helps and their counsels

In its exalting of itself above the animistic, however, this nation refused co-operation with them and in its disdain created for itself a distance from them, in the supposition of its own high spiritual connection with the Light

This, however, was a great mistake which avenged itself heavily upon these men, in that, as a consequence of their aloofness from the world of the animistic servants, they were no longer able to receive their very important counsels and helps

In their endeavour to occupy themselves only with what in their own eyes was great and important happening, these otherwise strong human spirits overlooked the important essence of success hidden in the small, among which they haughtily ranked precisely all the animistic working

This brought it about that there, where channels for the helps of the animistic servants were to be formed for the work of the called, everything began to falter and the fulfilment of their support did not come about

Thereby many such experiences in the called evoked still more the conclusion that the animistic do not co-operate with them

The called committed that great mistake of seeking the cause of the non-fulfilment with the animistic and not with themselves

Yet the true spiritual connection of man always bears within itself receptivity also for the co-operation with the animistic servants, it values the co-operation with them and heeds their helping counsels

Thus that nation also will be truly called which in its looking up to the high spiritual goal will likewise take care for the co-operation with the animistic servants, and which in its pure openness will be able to build to them a new bridge, over which men would again find the right relation to all that the animistic forms

Great predispositions are still possessed today by the nations which call themselves Slavic, for in them a certain fervour and openness of the inner being towards the animistic world is still anchored, unlike those nations which have already almost entirely lost their pure openness towards the invisible happening in nature

An obstacle, however, for all, and this also for the more open nations mentioned, is the strongly developed manner of intellectuality, and for some time this will be a great weakness of many who otherwise wish to co-operate with the animistic servants

For again and again the intellect will belittle the work of the animistic and thereby shake the trust of man in their real help

There, where the service of the animistic servants is regarded by men only as something secondary, there it will always come to tremors and to the collapse of the firm ground beneath the feet of earthman

It makes no difference thereby that with their thoughts these are directed towards the spiritual worlds, indeed they may continually appeal to God as to the highest authority and consider this appealing as something far more valuable than the world of the animistic servants

The gap which remains, however, will always show itself as a fundamental obstacle to every highest fulfilment

If an important rung is omitted on the connecting steps which lead upwards through Creation, then the striving of men for ascent is always weakened and they are given over to the fog in their seeing of the needful connections

Although the called of the strong nation mentioned were thus many times pointed by the Lord Himself to the need of the connection with the animistic servants, all their volition clung to the spiritual and still more often to the primordially spiritual heights of the work of Creation, so that only a small part of them thought alertly also of the co-operation with the animistic servants of Valhalla

Of that Valhalla which their nation in ancient times knew very well

In the end this had to turn against the majority of the called, who rejected the animistic or did not wish to admit them to themselves as important helpers

The connecting channels held in readiness remained dammed up, and many a small and great fulfilment in the materialities, in which the animistic servants were to have an important share, could not come about

If then, despite the failure of men, the animistic servants had fulfilled the Holy Will of the Lord as they stood prepared, mankind would have had to be destroyed as a whole without the possibility of anything further, for men would have received their work as a reason for battle and not as the faithful fulfilling of the Will of God

The clash of the spiritual and the animistic, which would certainly have come about, would have compelled only ruins and not a building up

Thus it always is when the endeavour of men, even in the best volition, is directed otherwise than it is willed by the Wisdom of the Will of God

This phenomenon we can see also with the majority of those who wish to serve God in the churches, where their gaze is fixed with all strength only upon the spiritual, whereas the animistic working on the plane of the earthly world is, and also earlier in history was, persecuted as manifestations of demons and of witchcraft

Out of this no blessing could arise, however much the church expected it in its conceptions that it serves God

The confirmation of its service could never come in that power which would bring blessing in all things that would be clearly visible also in earthly matters, such as the blessing of the harvest, the finding of treasures of precious metals, the discovering of healing springs and much else

The church always longed that God's blessing should manifest itself visibly also in these things, so that it would thereby bear witness to the rightness of its striving

Yet in the end it had to content itself with only a poor alms, which bears visible witness against it and against its persecution of all the men who, despite the prohibitions, preserved for themselves a certain connection with the animistic world

Only a few individuals from the ranks of the Christian churches attained through their inward purity a connection with the animistic servants, but even this connection was more or less unconscious, held only by the simple purity of the inner being and of the thoughts

To such belonged, for example, Francis of Assisi and some others of his followers in the church order which he founded for them

The purely childlike relation of Francis to nature as to God's work, to the animals and to the plants, opened to him naturally the way to the connection with the animistic world

Also some other men who bore within themselves certain predispositions for the receptivity to the animistic world, as in history were many men with healing abilities and above all men with a childlike receptive view of the world, were permitted as individuals to draw near to the recognition of the life which is woven by the animistic working

It always holds good that the connection with the animistic servants is conditioned by an inward receptivity towards the surrounding world

This world needs to be experienced as a glorious space of creative co-creating with the forces of the animistic kind, in which all is alive and in simple plainness serving the Creator

Those who have forgotten this, in their overlooking of the small and of the greater happenings around them, have at last come into opposition to the ordering which works through the activity of the animistic servants

Such men easily show themselves outwardly in this, that their severance from the animistic world proceeds on the plane of the intellect heavily and harshly against the fine streams working in nature

Thereby there gradually arises in their working a crossing of radiations, in which instead of blessing there manifests a braking and a weakening, evoked by the discord with the work of the animistic servants

Often then the will of man, instead of halting and subordinating itself to the rhythm which is given by the animistic working, rears up still more and rushes rudely to the attack in order to overcome the seeming obstacles

Instead of the seeking of harmony, battle is declared by man upon the wise working of the animistic, which, however, man can never overcome with his earthly strength

Men then indeed assert that they wish to serve God, but by their deeds they prove that they never concerned themselves with how the work of Creation, in which they so greatly wish to serve, has been ordained by God

They thereby prove that they wish to serve God only in their own way, according to their own conceptions, which they force upon the animistic and thereby necessarily also upon God, for the animistic servants belong inseparably under the Will of God

So easily and so transparently do they prove that they do not wish to serve, but wish only to determine and thereby to rule

In other words, it is the intellect which, in its conception that it knows everything better, wishes to lead and to direct those things which, however, do not befit it

In reality the intellect can rule only through the weak spiritual will of men, which it dominates with the thoughts formed out of itself

They are then no longer men called by the Light, but men chosen only by themselves, who wish to enforce their own will and only their own motives of volition, which they have veiled in words of praise about God

On the contrary, all those called by the Light who truly and faithfully long to fulfil their task carefully heed the co-operation with the animistic servants, let themselves be helped by them and above all listen to their counsels

Whenever one of the called deviated from the co-operation with the animistic servants, there the fulfilment of his service began to waver and in the end necessarily led to a narrowing and a weakening of the result of his otherwise faithful service

Therefore it is needful to speak continually of the animistic forces, to bring their work nearer to human perceiving, so that the connecting bridge for the co-operation with these faithful servants of Creation may be formed

Here, however, there stands today in the way a great obstacle which is very hard for many a man to surmount

Although he wishes to co-operate, he no longer knows how to draw near to the world of the animistic servants

Whenever he reads or hears of them, there his effort to know them and to draw near to them goes the old way through intellectual thoughts, and there it must almost at once strike against a barrier which will not let him further

He hears indeed of the animistic servants, he ponders upon their work, but this work itself does not penetrate livingly to his spirit, but remains beside him in his thoughts, where mistrust files away at the individual pictures

The knowledge of the animistic does not pour itself directly into the inner being of man so as to lead him at once to a childlike pure enthusiasm, but remains in the old tracks of intellectual thoughts

It is then just the same as we can observe with a visitor at an exhibition, or better still in a museum

The visitor passes through the rooms, observes the exhibited objects, but these remain for him always only something rigid, torn out of their own surroundings, in which alone life can pulsate, and out of this life also the true comprehension of the essence and of the meaning of the exhibited objects

Thus in the reading of or the hearing about the animistic servants exactly the same happens to man as to the visitor of a museum

In the perceiving of concepts and pictures he sees only the individual parts, just as in a museum lifeless, stuffed animals of all kinds are exhibited, and he no longer knows how rightly to set them into that independent life of their own which is to unfold from the full comprehension of the principles in which the animistic servants work as in their natural surroundings

Yet only through the comprehension of the principles of the activity of the animistic kind can the world of the animistic servants become living for man in its enduring mobility, and thereby it can come alive as an all-present weaving around man and even within man himself

The radiant threads with which the animistic servants work resemble an unceasingly active loom, in which life gushes forth without pause, so as to fulfil its mission exactly according to its kind and the appointment of its task

And man is set within this weaving, he partakes in this course of the threads of radiation and indeed he is alive and healthy out of it alone

Everywhere around it is possible to observe how the great threads descend in order to strengthen all that is subordinate to these threads, for it is dependent upon them

Thus we may say that, for example, everywhere around us the threads of the exalted servant Herfeline can be perceived, who continually sends out helping threads for the maintenance of healthy life

The radiation of Herfeline, however, is not only among the men who are real healers, whether they work through magnetism or heal with herbs, but her weaving can be found everywhere where men work with pharmaceutical products, such as powders and drops from herbs or from compounds of substances, because the highest connecting radiation for them is the inward fervent longing to help their fellow-men

Everywhere where in the first place there stands a genuine longing to help and not fame or money, there the helps and the inspirations from Herfeline can be found

They must be present there, for they are connected by the homogeneous radiation which Herfeline sends out continually into the materialities

Every one of the healers, of the herbalists and also of the physicians who bear in their hearts the longing to help men in their pains and privations will always in some way meet with the helping radiation of the servant Herfeline

Thus it has always been in the whole history of mankind, thus it is also today and thus it will always be, for Herfeline is the servant whose appointment in Valhalla is given for ever to the healing of life

Always therefore this servant of Valhalla showed herself in some way to the men mentioned who longed to heal others, whether in inner vision or in sleep or yet otherwise, in order to lead them to the unfolding of the ability through which these could then help other men

Herfeline even stood also at the working of the Son of God Jesus Himself and also at that of Mary in the time of the Lord's working on earth

In this case, however, Herfeline was not the one leading and determining the direction of the forces, but on the contrary she was the one joyfully fulfilling the command of healing with the aid of the inflow of the Power of God working in the healing

Thus we could describe step by step much else of the working of the high and of the lesser animistic servants

Everywhere we but look we can see their work and their working

For the drawing near to the recognition and to the acceptance of the working of the animistic servants it is needful only to let the whole world around man come alive for his eyes

Everything will then begin to fill itself with a new pulsation and to converse in quiet voices, be it the wind, a blade of grass, a mighty tree, the clouds in the sky, the soil of the earth, a leaf, a drop of water, a little flame of fire and all the rest

All whispers with the voice of animistic converse, in all there is present a wondrous life which in every space around us gives to the visible forms a new breath of glory

Yet this approach is until now only a faint imprint compared with how it should already be

All is to become an entire matter of course for the man who seeks the way to the co-operation and to the swinging together with the animistic servants

It is needful that therein the very essence with which man regards the world around him should be turned about

The animistic ones in this world are not merely concepts and pictures, but they are that living happening in nature and in the universe

They do not stand outside this earthly world, but this world is animated by them and stands continually under the influence of their living radiation

They are within it, they lead threads of forces to it and thereby form ever new forms bearing witness to the All-Wisdom which animates it all and which they faithfully serve

In this manner of their work the animistic serve God faithfully, Whom they call the Father of all

This is something entirely different from what many men, even those honestly striving for the connection with the animistic servants, imagined and still imagine

The animistic ones are not something additional in the visible world of men, but they are the foundation of this outer world, which can be here only thanks to them

They are contained in everything

Wherever therefore we look in nature, we can perceive them, we can listen to them and through our own inner being converse with them

In this way Siddhartha Buddha too found the way to the animistic world, when he caught the delicate voice which sounded to him in the moment of his greatest pain

Only through inward converse was he permitted to make the world of the animistic ever more his own, and gradually this world also showed itself to him in the unveiling of its forms

Thus every one of men can draw near to the animistic servants in a certain degree of attunement

He does not need to see them at once in the forms and shapes which they bear within themselves with the most sublime glory, but he needs in the first place to seek them everywhere around him

In a childlike pure attunement he is to seek and to find the world of the animistic servants in all that happens around him

He is to put to himself the questions as to how in this or that happening in nature they are co-active

Gradually he will recognise that the answers will come to him ever more easily and more freely

He must not, however, form them for himself in the old disposition of his thinking investigation

That would lead him aside even at the last moment and even in his best volition, and he would stray from the way into fantasising, or he would come through his intellect back into the state of mistrust

Neither the one nor the other leads to the world of the animistic working, but it returns man to the old brooding manner of intellectual thinking, or it forms a world of delusion

Both then only do harm and rob man of the precious forces expended for the living work of the spirit

We need to build anew the bridge which has been lacking here for a very long time and which now needs to be brought again to life

In the joyful attunement of the childlike seeing of the happenings which are around us, that life is to be looked upon in which the animistic servants have an important task

Through their work we may then also come to recognise the wise Will of the Creator Himself, Who for all animistic and spiritual creating pours through the Grail into this Creation the continually living power of Imanuel, the Holy Spirit
