Many men say with a wistful note in their voice that the better times on earth are already past

In this turning towards the past there is usually contained very much, indeed almost everything from human history that is recalled today

Whether these are the ancient stories of the whole earth, of individual nations, or merely the traditions of families, there always quivers a certain wistfulness in the voice of those who tell them, with the emphasis that what was better lies long ago and is now past, lost, destroyed by the present confusion of the age

None of those who thus grieve is aware how, through these very thoughts, he makes harder the road leading forward, both for himself and for those close to him

But it is even worse, for in all this there is very often contained at the same time the endeavour to try to revive in thought the past forms of bygone times

In the delusion that thereby the former times will be brought back again to the men living in the present, there is so much striving to look with a certain reverence towards times long past

All these mourners, all those calling back for ancient traditions and for the better times of the past, have no idea, however, that the work of Creation knows no way back, but that it directs all ways as leading only forward towards a new development

Everything in Creation knows only the way forward, that is, the way in which, in the repeated influx of the Loving-Kindness of God, all life receives the power for its further continuance and development

It cannot therefore be expected that what is past will return, so as to become the present once more

The pressure of the eternal movement forward, which drives all the forms of development onward, does not permit it

Let us but consider that not even in nature is each new spring ever entirely the same as the springs before it

With a single turn of the earth everything in nature changes, and never does it return identically to a state that has already gone by

The guardian of time, Hathmes, long ago let all that is past, which belonged to the earlier ages of human development on earth, be buried in sand and covered with dust

He does so out of the very nature of his faithful service to the Will of God, in which everything in the Subsequent Creation is inexorably moved forward

Everything tends, in the transformations of forms, only forward towards further being

A return to the past thus appears as an endeavour to go against the weaving of the whole work of Creation

Men, as the spiritual inhabitants of the work of Creation, need to accept this and to fit themselves into it in the rightness of their abilities and gifts, so that it may at last be understood that the true working of men in this wondrous work leads upward to the ascent only in the present time, in their advance further and higher in the fulfilment of the true task of mankind

The past affords only experience, but it should never be wistfully called back to be revived, for everything is transformed and developed, and in this developing all that is past is already a state surpassed

The human spirit intervenes in this development of all conditions and forms on earth with free will in his volition

His volition is the imprint of his fingers in matter, into which he is to impress ever new forms

Under the pressure of his pure volition the forms can and are to develop into ever nobler ones

The Light brings the possibility of the development of all life from the lowlands upward, ever higher, up to lasting bliss

For this their free will is to serve men, which is given so that in all this they may stand for themselves in the full strength of their spirit, and not as puppets guided by an outer force

This power of free will is to be used in the first place for gaining knowledge and maturity of the spiritual kind, so that the development may go the right way

In just this, however, men fail the most

Men have lost their harmonious swinging with the development in all the spheres of the Subsequent Creation

They lag behind all the rest of life, which expects the right and harmonious swinging also from the humanly spiritual kind in its recognition of the work of Creation

This, however, has long since ceased to happen

Hence so much lamenting for the ancient times, when men still in part kept step with the development of the other parts of the work of Creation

Then they succeeded in it, and therefore periods of success and ascent could come here and there, which are now recalled with longing by all those who grieve, so that everything may come back again

Thereby, however, only further power needed for the development in the present time is lost

From the heights of Creation new inspirations descend, from the Light there come many new recognitions which have the power to raise the present state swiftly upward towards the longed-for time of peace and happiness

This, however, will not arise in the hands of those who look backward, clinging to past traditions which for the most part already show themselves visibly to be wrong, in much distorted, and thereby insufficient for full harmony with the weaving of the present that proceeds from the other inhabitants of the work of Creation

It may be said that everything in the universe is continually developing, but mankind in particular has come to a standstill on steps of knowledge which should long ago have been past, because the unfolding of the new knowledge received about the work of Creation and about the Creator Himself would bring prospects of an unprecedented kind, which would long since have established on this earth entirely new conditions of a life blossoming forth out of the knowledge and the conscious knowing of the spiritual kind

And there is indeed always something to be recognised, for the work of Creation is an inexhaustible treasury of knowledge for human comprehension

Men know almost nothing about the work of Creation in which they find themselves

Also about God Himself and about His working mankind in reality does not know even a tenth of what it could and should already know

Before mankind as a whole there still lies the true knowledge of the Trinity of God, and also the knowledge about the Grail and about the King of the Grail, Parzival, who dwells in the most sacred place in the primordially spiritual heights of the work of Creation

The great progress of the earthly world of men, bound up with the upsurge and the coming of a sublime harmony with the whole, which lies in the harmony of the work of Creation, therefore still remains unfulfilled

In the light of this new knowledge it will then also swiftly become apparent what of the past stands rightly and what can thus be regarded as the foundation from which the new building-up can and shall arise

We find ourselves in a time when everything soulless, maintained in dull continuation, needs to be washed away like a sediment that harms the new upsurge of the presence of the human spirit on earth

Therefore the clinging to all that is past needs at last to be laid aside, together with the assumptions that tradition and the reverence which leads to obligations towards the knowledge of past generations is something right, which is esteemed and perhaps even willed by the work of Creation and also by the Creator

On the contrary, everything in the planes of the Subsequent Creation is moving forward, and what a few years ago was still sufficient no longer suffices now, and the insistence upon this earlier state shows itself in stunting, for it is a sign of an insufficiency of inner movement

The development goes ever forward, and mankind needs to attune itself in this movement with everything else, for otherwise it becomes disturbing and obstructive to the other happenings in the finer planes of the Subsequent Creation

Many cling to tradition and to the past out of fear that they would thereby lose the firm supports which they anxiously need for themselves, because they dread being uprooted from their certainties

Others fear that they would touch upon the memory of their forebears

They are not aware, however, how much that binds lies in these cherished memorials and traditions, arising out of the errors of past generations

Thus there is still a clinging to things which should long since have developed into higher, more knowing and thereby nobler forms of human life

Forms of life which would at last bring to earth the true swinging in unison with the great Harmony of the whole work of Creation would unfold before the earnest seekers of today a new knowledge which contains within it the answers to all the questions of the men of today

There is so much new knowledge hovering above the mankind of this earth, calling at last to be discovered, for therein lies that longed-for ebbing away of all the baleful forms of evil which until now hold the whole of mankind in their grip through ingrained errors, out of which arose those traditions that are outwardly celebrated with reverence

For whole centuries it pervades families and the wide kinship of many who are bound through invisible threads of wishes with their forebears, who even now still hang upon these threads, bound in the beyond

It is like a great net resembling a spider's web, drawing together the men here on earth with all those souls who shared in the forms of the past world and who have not the strength of themselves to free themselves from these forms

Those who nourished the ancient conceptions about Creation and about the Creator often have not within themselves enough strength and courage to step across the imagined circles in which they find themselves in the beyond

With hope, therefore, they wait for the loosening of many threads, which must first dissolve under the radiant influx of the new knowledge of their descendants, as those who now carry on here on earth

Very many of them, therefore, are now incarnated on earth for the hastening of their ascent in atonement for their former mistakes

The spiritual burdens of lineage stretch far back into past ages, when errors and mistakes formed the very traditions which hinder the development and the ascent of all those who in lukewarm thoughtlessness submitted to these traditions and thus made them their own

The clinging to interpretations and to the understanding of many conceptions about life stretches through whole centuries like a binding thread, which needs to be severed by liberating knowledge, that will thereafter bring release to many souls in the beyond

Even many thoroughly pure souls remain standing in their ascent in the beyond, because they lack the influx of liberation from the errors and mistakes of the lineage, which not seldom became a hereditary sin passed on from father to son, or from mother to daughter

It is a bond which fetters millions of those who have become stuck in their development and cannot climb further towards the Light, because their karmic thread of mistakes and errors stretches on through the other continuers of the lineage

The setting of an end to this thread lies precisely in the advance of the knowledge of the right direction which the human spirit is to take, if he really wishes to reach the luminous heights of Creation

For the attainment of the spiritual planes half-knowledge does not suffice, for it gives no strength for a real upsurge upward

Mankind as a whole is meanwhile still very far from the true recognition of the clear and open way to the Light, that is, to God

At the same time, however, the happening in Hermetis, in this universe of ours, presses everything with the force of the effect of the Law of Movement towards further development, in which many deficiencies and errors in the recognition of the work of Creation need to be laid aside

The direction forward in this is the only way to become free and at the same time to shape the conditions in this earthly world so that the development may sensitively wash away the dregs of all that is past, which hinder the upsurge of the individual and of the whole of society

And with this man needs to begin with himself

All his spiritual power, affording him the ability of intuitive perceiving and of sensing the new direction towards the high goal of the true spiritual kind, is to be used with full strength by each single man for his own ascent

Everything that belongs to the real knowledge about the world and about the work of Creation is to be opened

Thereby all the rigid obstacles which hindered man himself and also many of his fellow-men occurring in the line of lineage of the family will at once be shaken

It is a liberating deed, when the new knowledge about the universe, about Creation and about God can flow over from one plane into another like the refreshing radiance of a new age

Here there is no more cause for longing after what is past, but on the contrary there is the promise of a genuine upsurge everywhere where ignorance, and with it a thousand errors and mistakes, is to give way to the ray of the new knowledge, in which the ascent on all the levels of human society is contained

Wistfulness for the past is a certain kind of weakness, which outwardly gives itself the appearance of earnest reverence cherished towards forebears, lines of lineage and the epochs of nations

But in all this there is in reality a hidden brake for the spirit, which needs to be laid aside, for we find ourselves in the turning-point of the ages, and thus everything past is to be subjected to the sharp brightness of the Truth

And much will alas prove to be untruth, indeed even a deliberately maintained lie, which was woven by the tempter into the thinking of men with the aim of robbing them of their freedom and thus halting them in their spiritual ascent

The independence of each single human spirit makes him wholly responsible for himself

No one has power over him in this

Neither, however, has anyone the strength to raise him upward against his own volition

Everyone needs to exert himself for himself, in order to advance further and to whiten his spiritual robe

Therefore it is now also necessary in the first place to cleanse away the great deception of the many who over whole centuries have let it be forced upon them, against their inner intuitive perception, that the Redeemer has already saved them by the deed of His death on the cross, and that it is therefore enough merely to believe in this deed of God's self-sacrifice

The Redeemer, however, could never through His death raise the human spirit even a little higher towards the Light, if in that spirit himself the volition to do good to his fellow-men and to the whole world did not burn completely

Where in the human inner being there is no bright flame of the spiritual will towards the Light through the all-embracing volition for good, there such a man remains forsaken by the Light, however many thousand times his lips repeat their vow of belief in the Redeemer and in His supposed deed of sacrificing Himself for mankind

Therefore the festival of Easter has not the power which men expect in it, because it brings the remembrance of the destruction of the anchorage of the Love of God in the tortured earthly body which belonged to the Son of God, Jesus

Where, however, at this time there is the right attunement in a courageous, fully intuitively perceived volition for good, purity and peace towards all God's work and towards all the creatures found within it, there in a new influx the helps from the Light may draw near to man, bearing within them strengthening in his decision to walk through life purely, justly and peaceably with all his fellow-men

Where, then, man opens himself in trust in God's help for his own striving, there the help from the Light always draws near

But where reliance is placed upon a soulless belief in what runs counter to the Laws of God, there the expected blessing of the Love of God can never come

The Will of God expects from men their own movement and thereby also works and deeds

Therefore all those who profess God and who accept His work of Creation with the spiritual planes of the Light as the place of their being, all of them should at once and without delay let go from their minds everything that does not belong to the volition which leads to the all-embracing doing of good

But it seems that this is too strong a demand upon men

Lukewarmness and the unwillingness arising out of it stand as an obstacle before earthman in his stepping out upon this path of a pure and inwardly intuitive humanity

Therefore much will now have to be shaken in its foundations at the same time as evil now vanishes from the soil of this earth

Therein alone there still lies the possibility of freeing from many errors those men who in themselves are not bound up with evil, but only grope in ignorance of the true meaning of their life on earth

Gradually it will come as a new knowledge for many, and it will bring an impetus into the lives of millions of men

Now the opportunity for many men lies precisely in freeing themselves from the wrong traditions of the past, ingrained in a counterfeit picture which the tempter impressed upon men long before the present day

Therefore the time of a new Easter is here, just as it is high time to become free from all the lines of lineage that build upon a wrong understanding of ancient cultures and nations

Whatever nations and races there are, they long ago lost their connection with the past ages upon this earth

The Light demands unity in the spiritual origin of man, and now with its brightness of Truth it dissolves all the ties of men to the past

No nation is chosen unless it fits itself into the vibrations of the harmony of the work of Creation

At the same time every nation can be chosen, if it does everything in order to follow the Path of God's Light

If the men of any nation cleave to the true path shown to them by the Son of God and by the Son of Man, and do everything so that this path may become for them the guide for all their dealings with their fellow-men, then at this time such a nation will become blessed in the present on earth

This holds good also for the individual man, for only the accord of his volition with the whole of the universe determines the measure of the living connection with the Light

Thus in the ethereal the way has long since been shown in which men are to go forward, so that they may become happy in the fulfilment of a pure existence

The following of the right understanding of the Will of God shapes for the human spirit at once the path leading to the Light

The Path of the Grail also, which swings fully in unison with everything that descends in the new knowledge of the direction that leads human spirits freely and unhindered upward to the home of the spirit in the heights

This path also brings a knowledge which can within a matter of hours bring to earth the beginning of lasting peace and happiness

For every matter there lies a way out in the threads of the weavers of fate

The condition for this, however, is not blind faith, nor perhaps the assumption that man is already finished

A possible way out can be found only through the all-embracing volition for good in the individual man and in his highest movement forward

Where, however, this will is lacking, there the ways of the further direction will now go towards a complete severance from life, and will thus lead to the withering of the spiritual inner being, as when a plant lacks sunlight and water

For this everything in the hands of the weavers is already prepared

Either the will to peace and the readiness to make amends for all former transgressions will arise in men, or their gradual sinking downward in the work of Creation will come

Sinking down, however, means a descent into the depths in which annihilation lies

Therefore everything is now so very serious for every man

Before each one two fundamental ways open out

Either the way leading to new prospects of an uplifting existence filled with life

Or the way tending towards annihilation

The choice lies in the hands of every man

This too is that new which leads to the freeing from the ancient conceptions of the Judgment of God, as it is presented in the traditions of the religions

It is not God who judges man, but he judges himself through the way in which he fulfils the gift of free will in the volition he manifests

The volition is drawn at once into the threads of the further fate, and out of this, within the Laws of God in Creation, the path of the further direction is then set

The present time brings a change in the swiftness of all the release of the happening

There is therefore no longer any time either for mourning over all that is past, or for brooding occupation with what cannot be brought back

There is only the here and now

Now everything further that is to come for every creature is being decided

He who rightly grasps this cleaves peacefully, with all the strength of his intuitive perception, to the striving for the all-embracing good towards everything and everyone

For this the time of each one is granted to him just today

Everything else is over and above this, and is to stand only after the primary intuitive perceiving and volition to live in accord with the Will of God, which is that complete Harmony permeating the work of Creation for ever

Therein lies that new and only thing which shapes the path of the new life

All that is past has already faded away and is therefore an insufficient foundation for the further development towards ascent

Upward therefore, boldly forward, with a clear and free gaze upon all that is approaching the earth, for everything new that now comes brings within it for the vividly examining man the possibility of recognising the Truth, and, with its acceptance, then the liberation from many threads stretching far back into the past
