Let there arise once more before your sight the luminous heights where the rulers of the forces of the elements dwell, heights which in the flowing of the ages revolve about the very starting-point of all being in the Subsequent Creation, the temple of Valhalla, in slow circles wherein millions of earthly years are as nothing

Exaltedly the happening flows here, which heeds not the transformations running their course in the density of the lowlands, which spread out like unto seven rounded cloud-whirls, in the midst of which there are then the actual and still markedly smaller gross material universes of the world parts, which in themselves resemble, both in their density of substance and in their size, the hard kernels within the flesh of a fruit

Like a finer haze there surrounds each of these parts a nebulous ethereal part, which in its growing luminosity rises upwards and in a far circle reaches the places of Asgard – the gardens of animistic glory, whence there go forth into these parts the forces of radiation which animate the worlds, filling them with movement

The gardens of Asgard are hitherto a secret for earthly man, for they lie far from the paths of human spirits

Only by exception were some permitted to set foot within their blessed spaces and to experience the purity, the brightness and the mightiness of the vibration to be found here

Only some one of the many human spirits was permitted to be raised so near to this proud animistic realm that across the bridge of Hiemdall, formed of sparkling light, he beheld a little of this glory

The bridge of Hiemdall, like unto a radiant arch, goes forth from the gates of Asgard and joins the primary animistic part in the Subsequent Creation with the several world parts of the materialities

There are therefore in reality seven bridges, which Hiemdall administers with his faithful guardians

These bridges go forth from the lower part of Asgard and, like unto a sparkling current of forces, bear within them all that is needful for the animating of that particular world part to which they lead, and of all the degrees of materiality found within it

The shining pillars which join them to the lightest nebulae of the ethereal materialities end again in gates resembling molten glass, upon which there seem to be formed wondrous scenes of living pictures of the happenings and of the history of Asgard, whereby every happening, every history, is always in part a different one for each particular world part

From here the way then leads somewhat lower, to a place where there is a height bathed in peace-filled light

This height belongs to the beings of the angelic administrators of each of the several world parts, those parts wherein there are, in immeasurable dimensions, the spheres and the planes which are also otherwise called the world communities

Seven are the world parts, and seven likewise are these heights with their temples, wherein over each particular world part there watches always one administrator of the community

Joined in a circle which is anchored by the bridges leading upwards to Valhalla, these heights form within a heptagon a star in whose connecting lines only the animistic radiation penetrates, in order to animate and to create

The places of the administrators of the communities are, seen from below from this universe, immeasurably high, and they always stand solitary upon inaccessible, white-gleaming rocky ledges, guarded for their own service

They are places upon which there stand buildings of wondrous beauty, from which there flows a blessed protecting Light, bringing strengthening to all the spiritual sparks which develop and thereby increase their radiance upon their ways through the several world communities

Glorious are these guardians, whose origin is of the animistic kind, yet they bear within them a higher animistic substantiality than the animistic servants in Valhalla

Their appearance also is of the angelic kind, and this joins them more closely with the heights in the Primordial Creation

Their task is of a different kind than the work of the high animistic servants who labour in Valhalla

These administrators of the communities are wholly devoted to the service of furthering that which is humanly spiritual, and to this end they send forth in prayer the currents which summon the human spirit to liveliness and to alertness upon his way

Their task is heavy, most heavy, for in spite of all their helping working the human spirit in the greater half of the world communities has forgotten his way, has grown far too indolent and has let himself be almost swallowed up by matter

The calling of these servants, which originally was to have sufficed for the strengthening of the spirits, has become faint, and only in the most luminous planes of the ethereal materialities do the dwellers there keep their connection with these glorious servants

Peace-filled and radiant is the place where these have their seat and work in helping, holding in their hands the threads of all the human spirits plunged into the materialities

Quietly the spiritual stream of sparks flows from above downwards, past these places, finding in its first awareness as yet only a delicate connection with one or another of the world communities, towards which it is in some manner drawn by the kind of its disposition

Downwards there descend here the gradually self-awakening little spiritual sparks in delicate coverings which the most delicate servants of the exalted Herfeline prepared for them, and which enable them to draw nearer downwards, into ever denser places which we may call the gardens of the young souls

Although these gardens are already of the ethereal kind, yet we can find here only a radiant, kindly lightness whose likeness in the earthly is a quiet, well-nigh dreamlike land with freshly fallen snow

Here, however, there is no snow, but here, in these gardens, everything is still surrounded in a quiet softness by a delicate joyfulness and by the childlike pure rejoicing of the very young souls, who are preparing to go further on into denser places, where life demands of them the continuation of their development towards the mature age of childhood, whereupon there are formed the threads of volition which draw them still lower, to the first incarnation into the materialities of the universe which we here in the world part of Ephesus call the earthly world

Back again, in the stream of the river which flows from above downwards and at the same time from below upwards, there journey upon the other side the souls that have already passed through many lives, to whom it is granted in their maturity to ascend ever more consciously upwards, or rather whom, in their progress towards the radiance of the spirit, the current of the river can bear always a stretch higher through the ethereal spheres, nearer to the spiritual home

Yes, many already divine that it is that beneficent river whose animistic administrator for this world part bears the name Sthyx

That river, which here, in this part of the finer spheres, resembles a golden current, comes forth from the places of Paradise itself, where its spring is to be found in the most lovely places of the gardens of the fabled City of Golden Streets

From there it descends into the animistic part, into the delicate, nebulous materialities, and passing through them it sinks even to the deepest places of the Subsequent Creation, whither at last it carries away those souls which were not able to awaken fully within them the flame of the spirit and which in their weakness at last let the spark within their inner being almost die out

The exalted Sthyx takes over the dominion over this river of life flowing through the world part of Ephesus at the places where the animistic part of the summit of the Subsequent Creation begins

At the moment when she takes over the dominion over the current, the river is strongly influenced by the blessed, love-filled thoughts of the mature spirits who are in the spiritual worlds

To everyone who ponders rightly through his pure intuitive perceptions it can be comprehensible that the current in this river holds in its blessing and in its love-filled nature only an uplifting power, a power which may be named as helping and full of grace for all that is spiritual in the Subsequent Creation, because the thoughts of the pure spirits in the spiritual worlds always send forth solely a strengthening and lovingly supporting radiance for every soul that is still upon the ways of the Subsequent Creation

For the greater part of men who are directly in the planes of gross matter it is something very remote, indeed wholly strange, that they too should have in mind in the first place how to help others upon their way to joy

Self-absorption, and also the lack of a warming spiritual brightness within, which arises out of immaturity, drives many earthly men to attitudes towards their fellow men as towards those who are strangers to them, remote, or even hostile, and to whom they may then even send thoughts wishing pain and destruction

All this is in the spiritual planes something unimaginable, for they who are in the blessed places of the home of the spirits are overflowing with joy at the least progress of every soul that is still upon the path of its development, and they welcome everyone who is one day permitted to step among them, into these places bathed in Light

Themselves filled with the inward experiencing of happiness, they wish solely this same happiness for others

In the Light-filled worlds of the spirit there therefore comes into question no other occupation with others than as with those who deserve the highest and most dignified dealing, and a peace-filled, joyful objectivity fills the state of thoughts as a blessed consciousness of being, out of which there is then formed all creating which sounds harmoniously in accord with the Will of God, perceptible everywhere, in every moment

But let us now return to the gardens of Asgard and to the halls of Valhalla

The view across the bridge of Hiemdall loses itself in the radiance of the fabled groves of which we spoke already in our first description of the life of Valhalla

High, high above them, in the protection of the high-towering rocks, in the eternal veiling of a nebula of light, there then revolve the several heights of the high animistic beings, who, gazing towards the centre of the circle, extol the mighty and highest animistic link with the Primordial Creation, Valhalla, and in Valhalla the highest temple of Mercury, wherein, in his power, O-dio-nar rules and works

In the description that which is described may appear to the reader as though it were a picture which can be surveyed with the earthly eye, as is the case for him, for example, with an earthly landscape

Yet it is something wholly other, for that which is here described contains within its distances whole universes which, like unto starry nebulae, revolve in their insignificance below, in the divisions of gross materiality

The power of conception, if it is to be able to find any comparison at all, needs to leave behind the dimensions of the earthly, indeed of all ponderous gross material perceiving, it must swing itself up to a divining of the vastness of all the spheres, which from above downwards ever only contract under the pressure of the law of cooling

In Creation all that sinks downwards in cooling finds only forms which are more divided, more crumbled, and at the same time this dividedness contracts into narrower and smaller wholes, wherein everything is pressed together, since the single particles lack sufficient energy of their own to maintain their more radiant independence

At last, therefore, in the matter which we know in the earthly world that is here about us, we recognise the density and the compression of the particles as something which creates for us the picture of the impenetrability and the unchangeableness of matter, as the resulting picture of the work of Creation

The particles of matter themselves are also not living of themselves, but are only animated through the working of the animistic radiation

That the space of this universe is only the uttermost outrunner of the radiation of the Light, of this earthly man is not aware, and so he judges much, indeed almost everything, only according to the conditions here

This measure, however, cannot be carried higher into the planes which are always more filled with the presence of the Light and which therefore bear within them the energy to spread out into distances which are then unimaginable to our narrowed knowledge of matter

Valhalla is a place where the Light is contained in everything in a manifoldly stronger measure than is the case further down in the materialities

Therefore also the pictures which we here describe spread out into far distances, without its being possible, however, to find in these far distances spaces of emptiness and of unfilledness

On the contrary, all is interwoven with luminous forms and creatures which in the glory of their shapes can only be divined, as the patterns of all that is ideal, also for this earthly world

This holds good also for the forms of the animistic servants, whose shapes are near to the human appearance, and it holds good likewise for the animals, the plants, the whole landscapes there, together with the buildings and with all that belongs thereto in those places

Everything is more irradiated, of fuller worth, more ideal in its appearance and in its inner power than can be pictured at all in the earthly

Into the smallest particle, into the smallest leaf, into the smallest fold of a garment, into the finest speck of dust, everything is pervaded by the blessedness of the Light, which fills and animates the whole of the great forms just as it does their smallest details

Everything is more translucent, and this includes the shells of the individual inhabitants, without its being possible thereby to say that translucency in these worlds is at the same time equal to some kind of unstable etherealness and lack of firmness

It is not so, for the shells of all the servants there and of all the creatures have their firmness and their strength, which on the contrary manifoldly overcomes all that is found lower down in the divisions of the materialities

The shells have perfection and ideality in every respect, and thereby they may also always be held to be incomparably more symmetrical and more beautiful than the forms in the lower materialities, and this especially in the gross material plane of the earthly world

The earthly shells may in reality be held to be dim reflections of the truly living, enchanting shells which all possess who are permitted to dwell in the planes more pervaded by the Light

Neither are the forms of life in those heights composed of organs as we know it here in gross materiality, but we may perceive it all thus, that every creature, every being bears within itself as its foundation a spark which is its own essence, and whether this be of the animistic or of the spiritual kind, about this essence there is formed in the highest naturalness a form that always fits perfectly, or, said otherwise, a sheath which upon its outermost surface bears the details that mirror the fundamental inner essence

The fundamental spark or flame, whatever we may call this luminous core, always has a power of a directly glowing, nourishing kind, working from within right out to the outer covering

Thus there is no need to nourish this covering, which forms the shell visible to others, in any other way than by the power of the inner radiation

There is here no need of organs for the nourishing of the shell, as we know it here with man or with the animals and the plants in gross materiality

It is a wholly different kind of being than we know with the living creatures upon the earth

The radiation of the inner flame mirrors the measure of the inward participation in its service, and thereby it also forms the homogeneous connection with the others who are in the nearness of such a servant

The Light pervading space enters through the outer covering into the inner being, here it strengthens and nourishes the fundamental flame itself, and this by its radiating glows back again through the whole essence and animates it right out to the outer covering

This state comes to pass in a glorious pulsation which distantly resembles the breathing in and the breathing out here upon the earth

In every moment of a new radiating there comes about a pervading of brightness and of a rejuvenating shining which comes forth from within outwards

This state takes place so self-evidently, so repeatedly, that in spite of the first astonishment of a newly arrived onlooker he would quickly grow accustomed to it, and after a while it would appear to him as something utterly self-evident, so that he could not even picture that it should all come to pass otherwise

Neither is the pulsating radiance to be understood in the picture as a light that kindles and again dies down, but we may picture this happening of the nourishing of the shells as a constant brightness which in the recurrence of certain moments is perceived as a heightening of the beauty and of the perfection of the given figure, being or creature

In the same way we could also picture a certain aliveness of the buildings and of whole parts of the landscapes in these planes

Always we would find in that pulsation a state wherein, out of a glory unimaginable for earthly eyes, there all at once unfolds a still stronger state of enrapturing enchantment

It is a peculiarity that the stretch in which the renewed weakening of the radiating comes about is well-nigh imperceptible, and thus all appears as though before the eyes of the onlooker it were only ever heightening towards a still higher degree of glory

Therein lies that peculiar marvel, that precisely those planes through which the Light can pervade more mightily in its more immediate efficacy not only look ever youthfully refreshing in their appearance, but also work as though they were unfolding ever more into beauty

Thereby also the delight in the space and in the forms in these spheres is never exhausted, as can happen here upon the earth, where even the most glorious scene of nature can gradually become commonplace to man and in part lose its lustre

In the planes filled with Light such a thing cannot happen, for the constant inflow of the Light brings a lasting stream of beauty which bears within it the mystery of rejuvenation and thereby of an enchantment that is inexhaustible, bearing within it a lastingly all-overcoming experience of glory, blissfully perceptible by every creature, in every moment of the present

Would that men longed to bring over at least a small part of this glory, through their spiritual faculties, here to this earth, which for thousands of years has been crying out for the inflow of those forces which man, through his spiritual essence, could bring down hither, even to these places

All the animistic beings here upon the earth would only further him in such a striving, and with their faculties would always come to meet him for his help in such an endeavour

Would that men might at last grasp the insignificance which is bound up with their sojourn in these worlds of the materialities, and receive the liberating recognition of the true meaning of their being, which is solely and alone of the spiritual kind

In the hour when there falls away from man his conceit that he knows all things and understands all things, using for this, however, only his small intellectually earthly knowledge, which in itself is today but a thousandth part of what the primordially ancient peoples already knew of this world, then there will at last open before him that prospect which has hitherto been lacking to him here

Only then will he know how wholly he severed himself from all the rest of the work of Creation, and that in this severance he in truth willingly imprisoned himself within the thought-scheme of an earthly seeing of things, which can never mediate to him contentment and happiness throughout the whole duration of his life

In the hour of such a recognition, however, there is contained the promise that together with humility in his approach to life man will only then begin to discover the true gifts and treasures which are in reality everywhere about him

This awakening, however, is as yet only a prospect towards which mankind is moving

Soon the Tower of Babel of the pride of the man of today will fall, and before us there will open a wholly new prospect over the whole glorious work of Creation

Together with this falling of the false structure, true knowledge will be able gradually to draw near to the earth, knowledge which will bring to mankind the recognition of the real Truth concerning the work of Creation

In this new light concerning Creation there will also come forth for human perceiving, in renewed lustre, Valhalla itself, the place of working of the exalted animistic servants

Let us strive for the right knowing of the work of Creation, for only thus will there be unveiled before us the whole spread table of the blessed Gift of God which is to be found in the work of Creation, from the highest heights down to the most distant planes of the depths of the materialities

Blessed is the age which lies before us, an age which will bring the true union of earthly men with all the planes and spheres that are above us, ranged always one above the other, rising upwards into the luminous heights, where only then, above all things, high, exceedingly high, at the very summit of Creation, there stands the Castle of the Grail, as the starting-point of all Life, bathed lastingly in Light

There the Eye of God the Father looks down in His goodness upon His son Parzival, who here performs the most exalted, the first divine service in the whole work of Creation
