All that is bound up for man with the concept of time and its flowing belongs to the administration of the great servant who bears the name Hathmes
The transformation of all that exists, in the order of succession in the Subsequent Creation, is subject to Hathmes and his helpers
Hathmes holds the administration over all things, for it is he who, together with Hermetes, gives to things the principle of the rightness of their flowing
There is nothing which in its arising, its development, its duration and also its passing away would not be governed by that strict order of things which the exalted Hathmes weaves into the threads of the Subsequent Creation
Not even the Aesir themselves are exempt from his rule, and whenever they labour in the fulfilment of their activity they always submit themselves to the flow of development appointed by Hathmes
Nothing blossoms and nothing withers without the consent of Hathmes and his helpers
The fire of Sirius does not blaze up, the ray of the sun of Apollo does not shoot forth into the universe, the stroke of the hammer of Thonorun does not fall, the drop of Neptune does not slip from the blossom, the plant does not germinate and the fruit does not ripen, the young creature does not become a grown one, the bones do not fall into dust… until the unyielding Hathmes has brought everything into the right succession of the course of things
Hathmes is the lord and administrator of the flowing of the transformations of all forms in that part of Creation which spreads out beneath Valhalla, beginning with its halls themselves
He is lord over time and also over space, for these two magnitudes are through him joined within each other and cannot be sundered
Hathmes is the brother of Hermetes, both together serve O-dio-nar and through him Mercury and Parzival
Both work in all that is to be a support for the existence of the Subsequent Creation
Hathmes upholds the order that the transformations follow one upon another in the appointed succession and that the little threads of fate come as it is anchored in the Laws of the Will of God
The development and the sequence of events, in the smallest as well as in the greatest, always has an exact unfolding of its happenings
Physical manifestations, chemical processes, all is given beforehand through the order of things laid into matter by Hathmes
The one cannot outrun the other, save only if such a thing were anchored in the Will of God, which alone is mightier than the staff of the order of succession of Hathmes, which he holds unceasingly in his hand and through which he intervenes in the course of all happening in the Subsequent Creation
The Ray of Parzival now brings to Hathmes the command to hasten all happening, so that those processes which in the course of succession of the spheres of matter here were originally flowing slowly may receive a heightened movement
Thus there now comes about a transformation of time within the happenings, within their unfolding
Hathmes, obedient to the Lord, now brings about a happening wherein time flows differently in this or that moment, at one time more swiftly and at another again more slowly
To wise men he grants a small portion of time more for the settling of important matters, while from the foolish, in their witless ignorance, he takes time away
It is a strange happening that space and time can be shifted by the staff of Hathmes so that the manifestations of forms are now hastened or slowed according as it is needed
Thus events roll upon mankind one over the other, and no one divines where it all has its beginning and where its end
And yet it all rests quite simply in the power of Hathmes
He now, at the command of Parzival, lets men experience a longer and more arduous share in the events of life than the working law of happenings in matter had hitherto appointed, or conversely, men blessed from the Light may pass through many things lightly and in brevity, that is, if their inner being permits the symbolic living-through of the karmic happening in the Law of Reciprocal Action
Men who swing in the streaming of the Light which flows in strengthened measure towards the earth may pass through the most varied events in such a way that, looking back, it will appear to them only as a brief dream
Therefore it is so greatly called to remembrance from the heights by the luminous helpers that men should keep only a pure attunement within them, and above all that they should learn to forgive others
In their own hands they now hold how long their experiencing in this or that happening will last
At the command of Parzival, Hathmes may now let many happenings be lived through in the flash of a second which otherwise, under his ordinarily appointed working, would have to last days, weeks, months
And in this there is nothing that stands in opposition to the Laws of God, for these Laws pursue above all one thing only, that everything be justly and fully lived through to the last particle unto redemption
Thus that which is now the laying aside of the past comes to pass in the luminous man many times more swiftly, in a symbolic experiencing, so that in his maturity he may stand ready for a higher kind of service on earth, that he be no longer burdened if he is now to labour in pure service for the Light
Therein lies a great blessing, yet at the same time it is a thousandfold harder, for even the smallest fault, even a particle of remaining impurity, can bring it about that the wavering man is shattered upon the Will of God, in that he lets himself be drawn downwards but for a moment
Hathmes is an exalted servant who works in all things clearly and unswervingly, for the fulfilment of the lawful succession in all happenings is his sovereign service
Just as the pages cannot be skipped in a book which unfolds a story step by step, so can nothing ever be skipped in the succession of that happening which returns to man
Everything must always be lived to the end, that is the Law which cannot be circumvented
The swiftness of this living-through can, however, be altered according to the strength of the intuitive experiencing, which in the more luminous man is naturally stronger and therefore does not need such length of time as with him in whom the intuitive perception is wholly stifled, or whose inner being is filled with vanity, envy and hatred, that is, with malice in general as such
Hathmes, the servant who resembles Hermetes, is of slender and tall appearance
His countenance is elongated, and his long thin beard reaches down almost to his waist
Upon his head he bears a hat, or rather a high conical pillar crowned above with the sign of a serpent biting into its own tail
This symbol signifies the cycle of all happening, which never comes to an end
Radiant Light spreads out in a circle above this hat, and long ago this appearance was an inspiration to earthly kings and to pharaohs, whom clairvoyant priests counselled to wear such a hat upon their heads, for they sensed that a great power over others was bound up with it
In the earthly, however, the adopted image of the beheld hat of Hathmes could never have such an effect as is contained within it in the living, unfalsified form upon his head
In vain did the pharaohs seek through an imitation to compel for themselves a lasting power over the destinies of their subjects and their slaves, with this merely childish borrowing of what their priests had beheld
On the contrary, the burden arising out of this striving fell back in reciprocal action upon such spirits still more strongly and more harshly, for their craving to rule over others led them under the working of the law of Hathmes as under the blow of a heavy rock, which fell upon them and long remained lying upon them
The mantle of Hathmes is long and flowing, with long wide sleeves, and as a rule it billows in the moving current which is unceasingly about him
The helpers of Hathmes all have similar long mantles, and men meet with them above all in the hours of earthly death, when they appear to announce to such a man that his allotted time of transformation and ripening in the earthly body is fulfilled
Instead of a hat these often wear a cowl, and thus in their presence they appear as impartial bearers of death, to be broken by nothing
Men are afraid of them, yet those who have lived a pure and honourable life need never fear them, for the fulfilment which they bring to such men means the passage to an awakening of the soul in the luminous planes
Thus one of the faithful servants of Hathmes is Sthyx herself, who holds dominion over the streaming of the forces which bear the souls in the Subsequent Creation to those places where, by their inner luminosity or by their darkness, they belong
These servants of Hathmes are in reality friends to every man, and their task is to lead him out of the threads which in the first moments after the leaving of the body still surround him
Some bear for this purpose silvery staves ending in a semicircular, sickle-shaped blade, with which they sever the threads that still bind the soul awakening in the beyond back to the lifeless earthly body, threads which otherwise would be a hindrance in its further and freer wandering through the finer worlds
In the same way these helpers accompany human souls also in the opposite direction, that is, to the incarnation into an earthly body, yet in that case they are as a rule beings of a not so severe appearance
They are helpers of the feminine and of the masculine kind, having about them kindly, strengthening currents of force which lead the soul to the places where the union with the little earthly body in the body of the expectant mother becomes possible for it
These servants wear a long flowing robe which with the female servants is delicately rose-tinted, while with the men it has a white-silver appearance, and the whole impression of them is glorious, filled with gracious blessing
These beings then knit the threads for the union with the forming earthly body, and their gentle, mellow singing thereby often fills the expectant mothers with moving intuitive perceptions during the course of their motherhood
Just as at earthly death it is made known by these servants of Hathmes that the time for departure is fulfilled, so also is it made known by them to the waiting soul that the time has come for the union with the developing little earthly body
In that moment the soul as a rule sinks into a state resembling sleep, and the beings lay upon its closed eyes a band which lets it forget for a time all that is past
How strongly and how long this band remains upon the inner eyes of the soul after its awakening in the earthly body always depends upon its inner liveliness, which must then at a certain age overcome the deafening of the earthly consciousness, in order to unite itself again with its higher knowledge of being and to take up the path of an ever more conscious walking through earthly life
Into these happenings neither Hathmes nor his helpers intervene, but it rests solely and alone with the inner being of man how far it unfolds the strength to awaken and to lay aside the band
Every spirit is capable of it, if only he wills it
No man is left without help in this
Man needs, however, to unfold within himself the will to the inner life, which then breaks through into the earthly consciousness and becomes a lasting part of a conscious walking through life
May there be as many men as possible who heed this inner urging within themselves and make progress towards a higher awareness in their walking through earthly life
Hathmes and his helpers then stand ready that all which such an inwardly awakened man needs to live through may be made easier for him in the measure in which he strives for a pure and just manner of life here on earth
We are surrounded by so many helps, let us seek them, and the exalted servants of Valhalla will then fill our earthly path with strengthenings which will let us marvel over all things in unceasing wonder and experience each day happenings on the border of miracles
An addition concerning the present happenings:
Many of those who come to the pages of The Way of the Grail, although they may also read the articles published in the section bearing the name Supplementary Texts, are astonished at what is now taking place in the present
It is strange that this is a surprise to them, for many of the events which are now running their course were pointed out beforehand precisely in the category of the Supplementary Texts
We shall give here only a few small reminders
In the text about the exalted animistic being Siphe it was already written in the autumn of last year:
“…Hosts of small servants tend the vermin which is to be released, and against which the present onslaughts of crawling and of flying insects are but a light trembling before the storm
Out of the earth there creep stones and dust, borne up to the surface by the gnomes, who through the long evenings tell one another the tales of how in ancient times their brothers made, in a short while, out of the fertile and succulent corners of the earth vast deserts and lifeless wastelands
Apollo glows through the sun to support the work of Neptune, for he knows that all is but a preparation for the earthly years that are coming
Sirius sows a glowing heat over all the regions of every continent
He digs his fingers into the frozen soil and releases mighty currents which hasten again to the airy servants under the leading of Orkanos
Out of the hitherto frozen earth there creeps a minute life which bears within it the power to destroy the resistance of living creatures, including man himself
All is made ready for the call from the heights whence comes the Ray of Parzival, heralded by the Messenger of the Light flying through the universe …”
And in the text Purifying Currents at the end of the month of February the following was mentioned:
“ …The force of the outward blowing is only the beginning, for upon its wings, in a finer kind, there is at the same time borne a multitude of experiencing which is yet to manifest
The smallest particles of life, invisible to the earthly eye, are being sown, that in the times to follow they may spring up and call forth changes which can help man to tear himself out of his hitherto existing attitude and to begin to seek the ways which will lead him more directly to the recognition of the Will of God
Like invisible seeds there now takes hold that with which the sons of Orkanos cover the coasts and the inland regions of the continents
Much is borne by the purifying currents which the earthly eye of man does not see, yet it takes hold and in its movement brings an unrest which is to lead, through the first fright at the unexpected change, at last to a complete spiritual ascent upon earth
Unrest will now go before the rebirth of the spirit, for this unrest is a vibration which is to rouse all men out of their sleep
Through this unrest there is also drawn to the surface all that has hitherto slept…”
The attentive reader could thus have gathered already from the content of these texts that a happening is in motion which will bring something unusual, something that will surely show itself among earthly men
Only gradually will the knowledge of earthly research come forth that the present contagion spreads through the air and thereby appears unexpectedly among men in places whither it could not otherwise have been carried by others, as is the case with the ordinary spreading of illnesses, which for this need human nearness
New findings will at last, after a certain time, disclose that the origin of the contagion lay in the icy armour which through the thawing released these sudden forces, which Haerthemis was to use for her working in this time for the assault upon the inner soundness of men
As we have already written, it was the nearness of Hareiars which unexpectedly fanned the vehemence of this contagion, which began to spread like a conflagration
Hareiars, who drew near to the earth together with the comet that was passing through the solar system, now brings in his kind an intensification of everything
He has loosed the first part of the Furies, which bear within them the ceaselessly pressing inner cry of anxiety and of fear
Many are now also driven by the pressure of their intellectual craving to excel, as by an invisible whip, to multiply everything a thousandfold in the effort to win for themselves attention in society
Thereby a frenzied whirl is set spinning which will in the end sweep away all, including those who from the beginning sought with their tidings to strengthen fear in their fellow men without any possibility of an issue out of the present state
When men come to know the ruin of it all it will already be too late to halt the whirling vortex of a happening which in the end will sweep everything away
Hareiars has brought a heightened pressure upon human thinking and that inner uncertainty which arises from the fact that the greater part of men are not anchored in the Laws of God
Therefore we can find so much feverishly headlong action which breaks through all the hitherto established orders, and this even at the price of destroying what has been set in place
The intellect, which is not able to encompass all that is now happening, acts in short-sighted fashion and is driven above all by its own mistrust of a higher protection to let everything be given over to a complete unsettling
Thus it heaps one confusion upon another confusion, and in the end all this will bring only the gradual disintegration of its own work, which it has built up here through thousands of years
The parable of the Tower of Babel, which for all its greatness and massiveness collapsed in upon itself when it had reached its seeming summit and made the firmest impression, is more than exact for the present state of the world
A foundation which does not rest surely and with full trust upon the Laws of Creation, that is, upon the Will of God in Creation, can never uphold a structure, however ingeniously it may be built for a certain time
The collapse of intellectual action will come after several waves of change
And it is most fitting in the whole happening that the entire laboriously erected structure of the present world will be destroyed, under the pressure of Hareiars, by the human intellect itself, and that with a peculiar absorption and with unwonted zeal
There will be no stronger proof bearing witness to the severance of the hitherto existing direction of mankind than this, that it will itself, at the close of all things, destroy its own work almost willingly
There would therefore have been no need for the forces of the other animistic beings to intervene so strongly as it is now made ready, for the greatest part of the sentence upon the pride of the intellect will be carried out by the intellect itself, yet from the side of the elements also everything will be fulfilled that has been foretold
In the near time especially there will come the hour of Sirius and also the hour of his son Apollo, who will bring to the earth his heightened power
Much of that action which outwardly will bear the appearance of helping, but which in reality will be only an effort to gain for itself greater influence and glory, will unexpectedly collapse into ruins
And only out of these ruins, which will come again and again in strengthened measure, will there be able to rise the new, purified striving filled with humility of men who will at last be men of intuitive perception, spiritual men, in contrast to the present material and intellectual direction
Let us preserve within ourselves only the purest brightness and deep inner peace together with a knowing trust in the greatness of God in the guidance of the worlds, for these are the fundamental cornerstones for the building up and the endurance of all human endeavour
