Singular is this servant of Mercury, who in Valhalla is subject to the will of O-dio-nar, yet nevertheless works everywhere throughout the whole universe freely and unhindered

He cannot be overtaken, he cannot be bound, for his nature gives him the capacity to be everywhere and nowhere

Orkanos is livelier than Sirius, swifter than Hareiars, lighter than the nebulous body of Neptune

The only one of the great Aesir before whom he bows and whom he directly helps is Thonorun, for the hammer of Thonorun is the only one which is able to overtake Orkanos and to change his course

In the storms Orkanos always races in the nearness of Thonorun and makes ready for him the clouds for his great work

Orkanos has many children, from the greatest and strongest to the delicate and tender, known as the fairy cloudlets which float above the evening meadows

Of all his children, in whom there is always also a part of Orkanos himself, the most important and the best known are his four sons, Zephyros, Fenos, Eosos, Boreas, that is, the western, the southern, the eastern and the northern bearers of the winds

In their work there lies hidden all the wafting of the breezes and also the stormy, rugged tearing away of all that is not firm and secure in its anchoring in the earth

It is easy for them to play ever so lightly with the down of the dandelion and to bear it exactly to the place where, according to the needs of the elves, it is to take root, and with the same ease they lift a tree together with its roots into the heights if this is asked of them

In their powers, however, there lies far more than men divine, and if only they were able a little to work together with them, then much in human undertaking could become easier

A great knowledge concerning the connection of the substances of matter, that is only one of the capacities over which they have mastery, it is a knowledge of which men today have no inkling at all

With ease they can also change the pressure of the air in a manner which we do not in the least perceive

The indefatigable penetration of all things bears within itself the quickening which the Earth needs for life, that is the fulfilment of the service of these sons of Orkanos

Despite their occasional vehemence, which man fears, there is not in their work one single movement which does not have its support in the higher will of all happening, which proceeds from O-dio-nar

Orkanos himself is also a very important mediator between Apollo and Neptune

When Apollo takes away a part of the gleaming body of Neptune, changing it into a gaseous haze, then upon its way upwards, towards Apollo, Orkanos seizes this portion of the element of Neptune and drives it to where Siphe and her servants ask for moisture

In wise fulfilment Orkanos then directs, through his sons, his streams to where the countenance of Erda needs to be moistened

Although he holds himself to be free, and free he indeed truly is, Orkanos and his sons serve faithfully O-dio-nar and thereby the Luminous Son upon the throne in the heights

From the ages Orkanos gazes with longing upwards, for the power of Mercury streams through him in especial measure

He clearly recognises the ray of this power which passes indefatigably through him

He recognises it because he belongs to those of the Aesir, the great animistic servants in Valhalla, who have their pinions not upon the helmet, but bear them directly upon themselves

Orkanos has his wings folded across his shoulders like a mantle, which makes it possible for him to be almost as mobile as is Phermos, the bearer of tidings

The mantle of Orkanos therefore bears within itself the living form of pinions, of wings, which give him a swiftness which not even Hareiars attains, who likewise has within himself a part of the eagle of Mercury

Immense are these wings when they open out to the sides to bear Orkanos to the places where his work calls him

If these wings were laid upon the Earth, then they would enfold her like a small ball

Such is the greatness of these wings, such also is the greatness of the faithful servant of Mercury, the mighty Orkanos

In comparison with Hareiars, Orkanos is lighter and more translucent and thereby more mobile than the somewhat more ponderous lion-power of Hareiars permits him to be

Orkanos is stormy in his nature, yet thanks to his sons, if only he longs to be gentler and lets one of them work in his stead, he is able to make the strings stretched across the sky above the horizon sound ever so softly

Then his song can be heard, which unites itself with all that the air borne by him can cause to resound

It is the whispering of the air, telling in verses of all that this servant was permitted to experience from the beginning of his being in light-flooded Valhalla, and also of that which he was permitted to experience upon his ways through the materialities

And he has beheld much, he was present at all that was important, and thus he knows very much

As the air he pervades all things and lets life awaken, which without him would never have arisen

The air is not only his element, but he himself is the very principle of the air

The elements which change into a finer gaseous form draw the power for this from the principle of the working of Orkanos

Orkanos is the bearer of the movement which lies hidden in the translucency of that part of matter which is not subject to a coarser binding

Under his working all things change and develop swiftly

In co-operation with Thonorun it is precisely Orkanos who also works with an important effect upon many thought forms of men, which he scatters and lets perish, that they may not stifle the finer layers surrounding the earthly world

Without the work of Orkanos, of Thonorun and of Sirius, men would long since have succumbed to the stifling closeness of their own thought creations

Only thanks to these servants is the world upon this planet still fit for life

After the storm and the gale it is bright and clean not only earthly, but the thought forms also are for a time scattered, until men call them back again

After the vehement wafting of the air there is created a space wherein many a man can perceive refreshment and an uplifting of the sparkling within himself

If the thoughts of men, with the firmness and the stifling closeness which dwell within them, were to fasten themselves permanently upon the individual man with the power which is woven into them by much impure volition, then many a one would have to sink and to succumb to their absorbing force, with which they draw into themselves all that is weaker and thereby wholly surrendered to their influence

Men suppose that they have mastery over their thinking and that they are strong therein, yet it is rather the opposite, and the majority are wholly surrendered to the outward pressure of loathsome thought forms which, were it not for the high servants of Valhalla, would long since have engulfed all human striving in their relentless talons

Thus the blows of Thonorun, the gale of Orkanos and the radiance of Sirius through Apollo have cleansed this world for millennia, that it might still be at all fitted for life

Men know nothing of this, and only when one day they comprehend what helpers and guardians they have in these great servants will they give thanks in retrospect for every stroke of the lightning, for every vehement gust of the wind, for every outburst of flames upon the disc of the sun

Then perhaps the heart of man will cling more closely to this wondrous working of the great servants of Valhalla and in humility will long to work together with them

That, however, will already be a wholly different world from this human world of today, filled with superficial arrogance and narrow foolishness, which supposes that it is the most important thing in its intervening in the great course of things

Let us think continually of this, that all about us lives and that we ourselves are only a small part of the glorious, vast Work which many times over surpasses the plane of our earthly consciousness

Then a new day will arise and a new world will begin its way to the ascent, which lies in a more humble attuning to the powers and the principles which from all time bear within themselves the blessing of the Will of God
