While the planes of the luminous spheres already experienced again the fulness of glory in every moment of the present, out of the lowlands of the work of the Subsequent Creation there came ever more disquieting tidings

Those of the created and of the primordially created who were still permitted to plunge into its depths, in order to be helpers upon the way of the development of the human spirits, returned back and pointed to the ever more strongly expressed principle of temptation which had spread abroad in the worlds of matter under the influence of the fallen one

His wrath, called forth by the stroke of the archangel Michael, turned itself against the weakest link in Creation, and that was precisely the unripe, developing sparks of the human spirit, which of themselves already waged in the materialities a grave struggle for their being and their non-being

Aware that the stroke of the sword of Michael had crippled his wings and that he would not be able to return upwards into the Divine sphere, the fallen one turned all his vengeance against the work of the Subsequent Creation

Instead of loving help to these weak ones, he re-set the course of the development of the happening in such a way that all which under this re-setting began to take place had to strike ever more and more against the Laws of the Will of God in their reciprocal working

His knowledge of the working of the Laws of Creation made it possible for him to reach into the fine weaving and, by the emphasising of single things, to shift the volition and the aims in the striving of the human souls

Everything was deflected so that at last there began to threaten the whole Subsequent work of Creation the prospect that it would have to be crushed by the reciprocal workings of the Laws of God, earlier than this was to come about in the natural, gradual consequence of the exhaustion of the great cycle of matter

The spiritual sparks began to stick fast upon their ways in the coverings of the soul, and their stream directed into the materialities for the need of development halted for the greater part below and had not the power to return back to the starting point

Only the strongest sparks could stand firm therein and ascend upwards

The densest world communities of the materialities began to change into planes of injustice and of suffering, and this principle penetrated ever more upwards like rot and mould

Those who in the fulfilling of their helping service plunged into these parts of the planes returned back into the luminous spheres exhausted and spoke of an open struggle between the Light and the darkness in the materialities

Not seldom was it not even possible for them to complete their tasks, for they became ever more the victims of deeds wherein the dark servants of the fallen one guided the hands of those who were to remove everyone who brought recognition of the work of Creation and of its Maker

All pure and true knowledge of God and of His work of Creation sank down into confusion, and those who served the fallen one strove in all places that the true recognition might be hidden from those seekers who from time to time awoke under an inward impulse to find answers to the questions about the meaning of life

Many of those who as created ones were torn down by the fallen one at the fall of his ray became in their darkening the menials of the false principle of temptation, for the fallen one awakened in them envy towards all that was purer, and thereby he strengthened their hatred towards that which in its untouchedness was more luminous than they

At their head stood Satan as a strong leader, who had already completed within himself the development of the created spiritual and who nevertheless devoted himself to the service of Lucifer

His way began in the luminous planes, where he arose to life and whence he drew his power in his working in the material planes, whither he set out, helping in the luminous work of the support of the human spirits in their ripening

He himself, however, by degrees succumbed to his weaknesses, recognising in himself his power, which raised him above the developed ones

His number of birth was bright, strong and uplifting, and he was ever to work in Creation only in the principle of loving help

At a certain degree of his ruling over men, however, this servant failed and gave himself over to the vibrations of a longing for greater power over the weak

This failure turned him aside from the way upwards to the luminous planes of his home, and he lost the connection with the lovingness of the purely spiritual planes

In his transformation Lucifer found him and, in the time of his own turning aside from the ways appointed by God, made him his strongest servant

Satan – originally a servant of the Light bearing the name Samiel – laid himself into the allurement of the promises of Lucifer of great might and power over the developed spirits in the Subsequent Creation, and for the satisfying of his wishes he made of himself the one who became known and visible to all who fell victim to the snares of Lucifer

Thus Satan stepped forth out of the mantle of the working of Lucifer and, in the knowledge that all who become entangled in the loops of his snares will at last serve him, he set out to the hunt for weak souls in the material worlds

Lucifer himself drew back into the depths and in the gloom of the half-light of the worlds there he worked as the spreader of a relentless, pitiless iciness which fulfilled itself in the Laws of Creation with a crushing effect for all who let themselves be torn away by the temptation which his servant Satan now spread among his dark companions

Satan became more intelligible to mankind, for in his spiritually created kind he bore more homogeneity with the spiritual nature of the developed ones in the Subsequent Creation than the fallen archangel himself, whom the human spirit feared on account of the power of his Divinely animistic origin

Satan with his fellow workers wove into the threads of men uncertainty and mistrust in the Justice and Lovingness of God, and through their weaknesses he spread in them the dependence upon bodily enjoyments

He fanned in man an insatiable craving for woman, and in woman herself also he brought to distortion the influence of earthly love, which in impure hands became sin

To this end he distorted the threads descending to the materialities from the exalted animistic Efredite, so that the being in love, in its instinctiveness, might outweigh all that was higher which was found in these threads of the exalted servant

The animistic ones led by him, who had let themselves be torn away by Lucifer out of the halls of Valhalla, often stepped forth as false animistic gods and led men to a dissolute licence and self-will, of which they told them of themselves in the endeavour to shake them in their morals and in their pure values

Thus there appeared gods who paid homage to base things and set on show for human eyes sensuality, drunkenness, unfaithfulness, and much else

Known to the ancient peoples upon the earth as the Fauns, the Satyrs, the Centaurs, the Nyktelioi, the Nymphs, the Bacchantes and many others, these dark animistic ones entered into the lives of men as those who maintained that this unbridled life was the real life of the High animistic servants

They told all this to the astonished men, saying that it was the true knowledge of Valhalla, such as men had not known her until then

The animistic nymphs who had laid themselves into the service of the Faun who led them urged on the artists to write stories about the animistic leaders, bearing witness to their moodiness and their arbitrariness

When then against this false working the true animistic ones stepped forth with vehemence towards those men who had succumbed to these seductive enticements, Satan at once appeared, in order to shake yet more in men their faith in the purity and the faithful service of the High animistic servants of Valhalla, for he insinuated the doubt that those exalted servants revered by men in reality themselves indulged in that which they denied to weak men and for which they punished them

Thereby there was brought a great confusion into the intuitive perceiving of many who esteemed the High animistic ones and had ever revered them as wise helpers faithfully serving the great and exalted O-dio-nar

"They themselves indulge, and those of men who will to follow them in the same ways of life they strike with punishment" such was the whispering of Satan, and this took hold in many and shook their pure receptivity for Valhalla

Thus the former real knowledge was covered over by fables and legends wherein the animistic servants step forth as incalculable rulers intervening wilfully in the fates of men

The original bright recognition of the great cycle of the spiritual in the Subsequent Creation was also lost ever more and more in confused fantasies, which were spread by those whom he sent forth and equipped with skilful abilities, he who now wished above all that the humanly spiritual kind might lose its way, so that he could then point to its own incapacity to stand firm in Creation

For his work Satan gained for himself, through the falling of human spirits into the depths in the mills of the Laws of Creation, ever more helpers, newly joining satellites of the darkness

Especially precious were all those who already carried within themselves a certain ripeness and knowledge and who nevertheless at last were wrecked and failed through their weaknesses, through which Satan skilfully won them to his side

In such he had the greatest pleasure, for with their wavering and their fall they excused for him his own fall

"Behold, I am not alone in having decided for the way under my present lord, Lucifer" he laughed towards those who joined themselves to his side in the persecution of all that was purer in the materialities

These messengers of the fallen one brought confusion into everything that came into their hands

Through a peculiar quickening from their leader they had within themselves gifts whereby the confused knowledge offered by them ever sounded so strange that men were attracted by it more than by the very translucency of the Truth

Grains of poison were sown by their hands into all that was pure, that this might at last be poisoned and lead those purely striving away into confusion and exhaustion

All this they often did only out of their own arrogance and out of a vain endeavour to gain for themselves attention and fame among the human multitudes in the materialities

Thereby they themselves became ever more entangled, until their innermost changed into a willing of evil instead of good

Only to a small number was it granted again to purify themselves and, in a laborious struggle for themselves, to rise nearer to the Light

Yet such there were, and their return was celebrated as the return of the lost sons and daughters of the Light

Their liberation gave hope to everyone who feared that the dark one could not be withstood in the density of the material worlds, since these are under the rule of the fallen one and thereby his volition in them is stronger than the volition of created or even of developed spirits

Every such victory of a son returned anew was a luminous stroke against the distorted principle which had spread abroad under the influence of the fallen one, for thereby it was shown that the Light is ever stronger than his own influence in the work of the Subsequent Creation, which he endeavoured to seize for himself

In this victory of the few there was also sent forth all the help to the developed ones, for their protection from the influence of the false principle of the fallen archangel

The fallen one, however, made a great counter-move and directed his attack purposefully against woman in the gross material worlds

He called Satan to himself and told him that he, in his name, should skilfully ingratiate himself with woman and in the moment of her unwatchfulness play upon the strings of her vanity, wherewith she carried within herself the wish to be admired and by this way to rule over all who in admiration of her beauty would endeavour to bow before her

The stroke of the fallen Light-bearer was exact, for in his knowledge of things he aimed at the weakest place of woman

For flatteries and admiration woman was ready to do ever more, indeed she was ready to do absolutely everything in order to hold this place for herself and with it to gain for herself ever more influence

The second weakest link in the exact aiming of the tempter was earthly man, who by degrees became wholly dependent upon the pleasure given by woman

On account of this dependence he was ready to do all that Satan enticingly offered him

It sufficed for the tempter but lightly to re-set the signposts in the aims of life of the spirits in the gross materialities, and all the rest followed of itself as the necessary consequence of the deflection of the way of the spirits

There began to unroll the necessary happening, which followed exactly according to the laws which had called forth the shift leading to an ever greater entanglement of the human spirits in the threads of the reciprocal workings

A net was woven out of which no one was any more to escape who had plunged into the gross material worlds and who in his weakness and in the lukewarmness of his innermost let himself be too much surrounded by these planes in their Luciferian setting

The human spirits in their unripeness stumbled over the threads laid as snares and fell into the tangle of the threads of the reciprocal workings of their own failings

The development towards ripeness halted, and the greatest part of the multitudes turned in a vicious circle which arose out of the necessity of laying aside ever new transgressions

Nevertheless some would not yield to the outward conditions and waged a strong struggle for their spirit

To them there came as strengthening out of the Light inspirations and proclamations about the true goal of the human spirit

There were also laid before them pictures for a better comprehension of the whole setting by the tempter, which had of necessity to lead to decline and to destruction

To the open spirits there came messages out of the luminous planes of Creation

Whenever, however, such a message appeared, the fallen one at once directed his power straight to such a place

He sent forth Satan that he might at once set in motion events which took care of the destruction of the newly arising building of the Light in the materialities

With a hissing the darkness wound itself about such men, in order to endeavour to tear them away from the way freely entered upon by them

The servants of the tempter, led by Satan, at once unfolded great attacks against men who longed to raise themselves and others upwards to the Light

Wherever it was only possible, such were influenced, intimidated, attacked in their weak places, and all this only that no recognition out of the luminous planes might firmly anchor itself in the gross matter and thereby afford a firmer soil for the ascent of the purely striving human spirits

The multitudes of intoxicated spirits, caught in their weaknesses in gross material bodies, became easy instruments of the darkness for seeking out men more strongly connected with the luminous helps and for persecuting these, for like salt in wounds the luminousness and the purity of those few irritated them

The dominion of the darkness spread itself over the world communities

Most strongly struck were those communities which already before had borne within themselves the more lukewarm spiritual sparks

These sank down and of necessity tore with them also whole universes, for spiritual lukewarmness and indolence ever drew matter into more narrowed circles, out of which there was born only a further coldness and rigidity

This rigidity was observed by no one who dwelt in them, for everything was by degrees drawn downwards together with the whole material thinking and perceiving of the spirits found there

In the rigidity all that was spiritual suffered, but on the contrary this cooled soil became a nourishing foundation for the rank growth of the intellect, which replaced the spiritual intuitive perception in deciding

For the unfolding of the intellect Lucifer afforded all his art, for that was the reason why he had come into the materialities to the help of the human sparks

The unfolding of the knowledge of matter through the single pieces of its building parts, that was what now replaced the connection with the High animistic servants, who by degrees, but for small exceptions, closed themselves wholly to co-operation with men

The former, purely childlike connection of the spirits with Creation the fallen archangel now replaced in man by intellectual research and at the same time by an unprecedented pride in this new manner of perceiving the world

The principle set by the fallen one took root in men, and in the effects of the unchangeable Laws of God it led everything to an accelerated end

In particular the four lowest lying communities became ever denser and moved ever more swiftly towards over-ripeness and thereby towards a necessary destruction

Sardis, Pergamos, Laodicea, once at the beginning glorious radiant crystals in the wreath of the communities of the work of the Subsequent Creation, were upon a course rushing towards their passing away

The angels of these communities, as their stewards, endeavoured to fan the last little sparks of hope in the few souls found in the materialities there

Only few, very few of the sparks flamed up and with the greatest striving raised themselves to the summit of the ethereal spheres of these communities

Here helping hands of many luminous spirits were extended to them, that they might be raised up before Hareiars with his helpers was sent forth into these communities out of mighty Valhalla, in order with the strokes of his instruments to make them ready for destruction

And Hareiars came and with the vehemence proper to him carried out the dreadful work of destruction

With the greatest pain of the High animistic servants the sharp cut of the end was made, and as had been seen at the beginning out of the Divine angelic spheres, these communities were broken off and severed, that they might no longer burden the whole Subsequent work

The fallen one celebrated a triumph in his tempting setting of obstacles

He himself remained spared from the work of destruction, and his hosts also held themselves in his protection, which he afforded them with his power of the Divinely animistic kind

Countless streams of souls dwelling in these communities, in whose innermost there were already wholly extinguished sparks, were, however, drawn into the vortex which, like a mighty mill, swallowed up all that existed

Planets, galaxies, universes and whole degrees of the ethereal spheres, all this was by degrees drawn into the immense vortex which, swallowing up on the one side whole parts of universes, gave forth at its other end the primordial matter freed from all the past

All, resolved into primordial particles, returned freed from the past to its starting places

And then Hathmes went forth and with him Hermetes, that they might begin to create and to form new worlds, which had, however, still to develop and to ripen, even as bread drawn out of the oven must be let to cool and to breathe out

All went, however, already much more swiftly, for there was here the knowledge out of the first building of the previous world parts

The angels of the communities rejoiced over the preparation of the new work, and their tears of pain changed themselves, in the hope of the expectation of the new, into tears of joyful extolling of the Creator, Who ever finds in all things new ways of development

Spiritual sparks were, however, nowhere here

The old ones were condemned to a passing away and to the loss of their spiritual consciousness, when through the drawing into the vortex they were ground into single particles of spiritual dust, and these rose upwards, drawn by a magnetic attraction into the places where in the Primordial Creation the nebulae of the spiritually unconscious are found

New spiritual sparks were yet first to come when the time of purification should first arrive

The mentioned happenings did not, however, take place all at once, nor without many important accompanying intermediate stages, which will yet be mentioned later

In the picture it is now needful to behold that three of the lowermost communities sank into rigidity, out of which there had to come as a result one thing only – a passing away

With ponderousness there staggered a little higher above these three communities the fourth community, which bears the name Ephesus

Heavily struck by the tempting principle of the fallen archangel, it writhed in a state of struggle for itself and for the human spirits dwelling in its spheres

None of these was aware how, together with whole worlds, this community circled upon the very edge beyond which there follows only one single direction – the fall into the depths of destruction

Men supposed that their ways, which they had made their own for the life upon the earth, such as one generation took over from another, that these ways were sufficient

Whenever then the course of things turned against them, they fled and complained to the Creator, or in murmuring they childishly expected that they should be helped at once, despite their defiant persisting in their faults

Peoples and individuals remained ever upon the same edge of being and of non-being, even as the whole part of the materialities of the community of Ephesus swayed

With apprehension many primordially created and created ones, to whom the continuance of the work of the Subsequent Creation lay upon the heart, followed this doing of the human spirits

They saw that the endangering of the world part of Ephesus meant the endangering of the wholeness of the entire work of the Subsequent Creation, for the setting of its duration had another original plan

Never had it been expected that so many world parts should come into the vortex dissolving the materialities in a short time

This would have meant an excessive draining of the powers of Valhalla, which were needed for the upholding of the more luminous parts

Thereby the whole work of the Subsequent Creation would have been cast into a happening deflecting the balance, and there would have threatened a tearing down of the whole of the remaining world communities

The work of the Subsequent Creation swayed in its circling, like the axis of the great rotating pendant of the Primordial Creation deflected out of its balance

The great seven-pointed star grew weaker in its radiance and was lost in the depths of the darkness
