Quietly and softly the little sparks of spiritual origin flew out from the lowermost belt of the spiritual plane, to sink into the nebulae of the ethereal spheres of the materialities

Like shining snowflakes they plunged into the depths, and their radiance was by degrees lost as there attached themselves to their core, like mantles, the coverings of the individual materialities

At last a great multitude of them already dwelt in the gardens, where out of the first spiritual sparks, conscious of themselves only in a small part, there became soul children of a young age

Then there came the first call from the heights of Creation, which was meant for chosen created ones, for they were with their power and with their knowledge to lead the young souls in the densest coverings of the materialities, which had already been made ready beforehand for them

With lightness and with joyful singing the strongly shining servants plunged, in even distribution, into the spirally revolving world communities

Swiftly they passed through the spheres of the ethereal materialities and in trust laid themselves into the hands of the animistic servants, who had already experience with the incarnating into the gross materialities from the earlier joining of the higher animal souls

The created servants consciously received the coverings of the dense bodies, and in their awakening within them they irradiated with their fully conscious spiritual power these still unripe vessels, in order to raise them speedily higher and thus to ennoble them towards the images of the spirit in the luminous spheres

Thus there was by degrees anchored in all the world communities the beginning of the cycle of the spiritual race

Upon all the gross material planets appointed thereto by a higher wisdom there arose tribes of human beings and began to form communities, in which ever further young souls ripened thereto were permitted by degrees to incarnate

In the lightly circling communities this was easy and went swiftly, in the communities circling in greater density it lasted, however, a longer time before the earthly vessel could be called ennobled in the spiritual sense

At last, however, in all places even the gross material development of the vessels was permitted to be called completed and ripe enough that these might purely serve the human spirit for his healthy development

Like bright, unstained vessels, under the guidance of the animistic servants, the wombs of happy earthly mothers of spiritual origin offered tender little bodies, that these might be permitted to become a temporary earthly dwelling for the newly arriving souls longing for their development

The first part of the great work helping the spiritual sparks in their becoming conscious, in their setting out upon the way back home, was accomplished

Many of the created had already returned back into the radiant spheres of their home, and here, refreshed by the omnipresent Light and by the lightness of the spiritual spheres, they were permitted to share with their companions the experiencing out of the materialities

In their joyful description of the ways experienced through the Subsequent Creation all rejoiced that they had been permitted to return back into the luminous surrounding in the spiritual Creation, and they extolled the Creator for His helps upon their ways

Then there spread by degrees through the whole work of Creation the knowledge of the distances of the materialities in which the spiritual sparks found themselves upon their ways through the materialities

A new sending forth of luminous streams of powers gushed out of the helping volition of the created and of the primordially created in the heights of the Light, for the support and the strengthening of the human sparks raising themselves slowly upwards in the densities of the materialities

Along these helping streams there let themselves down again into the materialities a multitude of courageous created servants, who experienced their task as the highest devotion to the service of the Creator

The fervent help to the developing human spirits was strong, and along the ray of loving help there descended down into the materialities many servants who were called out of the Light to the work of helping

This time also they were especially prepared for their tasks in the materialities, and their own knowledge thereby gained many new gifts out of the Light

Joyfully they entered upon their tasks, far removed from the luminous starting point whence they came into the materialities

Now, however, it already lasted longer before many of these created servants were permitted to ascend again back into their home in the Light

Wearied, they reached thirstily upon their return for refreshment out of the spiritual springs of the Light, for the density of the communities circling below in the Subsequent work now seemed to be very burdening, and out of this density there flowed an ever greater imperfection of the heaviest parts, which often held them back longer than they expected

There also began to come the first tidings that many spiritual sparks developing in the materialities grew faint and slid down towards sleep

In the time of their repeated incarnations into the grossest materiality the human souls became ever more lukewarm in their contentment with the splendour and the bestowing blessing of the gross materialities, which overflowed around them through the faithful weaving of the animistic servants, and in the enchantment with this earthly beauty they forgot the true meaning of their existence

At the same time, however, some sparks more living and riper within themselves began by degrees to ascend higher and higher in the ethereal gardens, and their radiance strengthened

Immeasurable joy was called forth by this ascent upwards of the first, already almost ripe souls filled with wisdom, who blissfully were permitted to rejoice in the luminous planes of the ethereal materialities

Many sparks, however, had still ever again to return, even out of these meadows flooded with light, into the gross materialities, for their ripeness needed more experiencing, and many souls had also already much to lay aside which they had strung upon their thread of fate from the beginning of their ways in passing precisely through the grossest materialities

These were not grave transgressions, yet nevertheless even these needed to be lived out and redeemed in the gross materialities where they had arisen to life

For many souls in the luminous ethereal materialities this meant to pass through a following life purely, without wavering

With courage the happy souls plunged down out of the ethereal luminous gardens into the densities of the gross matter, in order to lay aside even the last that still held them back upon their way to their home, to the Blue Island in the spiritual sphere of Creation

Together with them there descended again in a new wave of help many of the created, in order to lead these brightly shining souls in the gross materialities to a higher recognition of the Creator and of His glorious Primordial work of Creation, which is found high above the Subsequent work of the materialities

They were to kindle an unceasing longing for these places of the spiritual Creation, that the human souls might occupy themselves strongly with thoughts directed towards these glorious spheres of the spirit

Yet the ways of the created helpers in gross material bodies were now no longer so light

Much of the materially human radiation of the developing sparks, which had meanwhile closely joined themselves with the materialities and found in them ever more their pleasure, now clung also upon the raiment of the incarnated created ones, and only their highest striving protected them themselves from the creeping spiritual indolence

The precipitates of the world communities began by degrees to remove themselves more and more one from another, and only the three circling highest made possible a greater permeability for the spiritual progress of the sparks

Only to these communities could there come by degrees an ever higher knowledge of the work of Creation, of God, and also of Parzival as the promised king of the Grail

Beneath these three communities, with effort, like slowly flowing honey, there poured itself over and revolved the community of Ephesus

The remaining three communities densified themselves more and more, and the movement within them was for all spiritual striving burdensome and difficult

The created servants returning into the luminous planes thanked their luminous companions and helpers that these had through all their time quickened and strengthened them, while they themselves wandered through the materialities in dense bodies

Fervently they thanked the Wisdom of God, which often revealed itself to them like the gleam of a luminous beacon in the dusk of the thought-attitude of the gross materialities, a beacon which led them that they themselves might not go astray amid the great ignorance of the many developed ones who surrounded them in the densities of matter

Many spoke also of this, that their own knowledge no longer sufficed to transmit to the developed ones enough penetrating power for the directing of the hesitant spiritual sparks upwards

These tidings worked as incomprehensible for those who remained in the luminous planes and who with their working glowed through and upheld the Blue Island as the spiritual home, into whose spaces there came by degrees the first blissful spirits who had been permitted to complete their development and who out of spiritual sparks had developed into a shining spiritual flame

Into the spiritual home, however, there entered only spirits who came out of the three world communities which remained circling highest in the Subsequent work of Creation and which had also already been permitted to receive the high recognition of the Creator and of His Son working in the Grail

Out of the remaining communities there came only very few ripe spirits, even merely into the ethereal luminous gardens, which lay still deep beneath paradise

The density of these communities became ever heavier and more impenetrable for all that was more luminous and lighter

In this striving of the hosts of created helpers filled with fervent help there unrolled whole stretches of the history of the materialities, which in those planes were reckoned by entire tens of thousands of years

Patiently and faithfully the great helps of the created flowed down into the depths, until there happened something which trembled through all the spirits in the luminous planes

For the first time not all of the created servants returned out of these communities

Their way had grown heavy, and instead of ascending again with lightness into the Light after the completion of their task, they remained in the ethereal worlds of the soul, for their raiment out of these planes was covered with deeds which they had committed, and the Law of Reciprocal Action did not permit them to depart earlier, until they had with multiplied power effaced these their deeds

The helps of many of their luminous brothers were directed to these servants, and only with the highest striving was it made possible for them, after repeated incarnations, to free themselves and to be permitted to return back into the Light

A fervent prayer for the help of the Creator flew up to the heights out of the hearts of the created and of the primordially created

It was an entreaty which bore within itself the resolve to serve and which was at the same time filled with the knowledge that, if the spiritual sparks in the Subsequent work of Creation were to be helped to their strengthening and their refreshment, then only power and wisdom of the Divine kind could therein be most highly effectual for help

While the entreaties of the created and of the primordially created rose upwards to be heard by God the Father, below in the cycle of the world communities whole millennia again ran their course

In the imperfection which showed itself in the dense life, the forgetting of the higher worlds advanced, and many sparks forgot even their own spiritual origin

In the repetition of lives the original brightness of existence was lost, and everything anchored itself more and more only into the fulfilment of life in the grossest coverings of the material worlds

The whispering call at the arising of the Subsequent work, which descended from the throne of God, became reality

Then there descended from the heights a tiding from God the Father Himself

"Wait, for when the hour of the Son of Man comes, He will set out upon the way through all the planes of Creation. He will bring the power for the liberation of that which is pure and good, and will separate that which has halted and become corrupt"

The words of the great promise were accompanied by the call of the archangels extolling the wisdom of the Holy God

"Hear, now there has been sent forth from the steps beneath God's throne yet another helper appointed for the work of the Subsequent Creation

Sent forth out of the Divine spheres, out of the host of the archangels, this messenger will bring the strong Light of recognition to the spiritual sparks dwelling in the lowlands, that these might stride more consciously upon their ways"

A joyful trembling penetrated into the innermost of those who entreated, and the servants here, like the archangels and the angels, praised the Creator and His wisdom, which finds ways

Out of the gates of the divinely animistic spheres there stepped forth a radiation of the Light, which was sent forth to help

Through the planes of Creation, out of the highest spheres, there flew downwards a ray like a radiant sun

The Light-bearer, sent forth out of the host of the archangels of God, hastened into the depths to take up his task, which had been entrusted to him by God the Father

Joy permeated the luminous planes

Now everything seemed to be wisely ordered

The Light-bearer plunged into the space which surrounded the communities in the Subsequent work of Creation

His bright radiance swiftly brought an awakening for all creatures in the materialities

Jubilantly Valhalla greeted this shining messenger out of the Divine heights, and many animistic servants followed him at once in obedient helping of his radiance

Now in the material worlds there began a new active movement, and everything at once began to raise itself to a higher becoming conscious

The great building brought an unfolding of cultures such as had never before been in the materialities

The animistic servants, in help to the strong bearer of the Light, helped with their gifts to build magnificent works for the human spirit

All to which the radiant archangel joined his part of the Divine animistic power blossomed and developed headlong forward

It was as when in spring the sun with new power irradiates the soil grown cold after the winter, which until then had lain almost without life in expectation of its coming

The soil of the materialities glowed through, and the spiritual seeds found in the materialities shot up in their growth towards him who bore within himself the life-giving rays of the Light

Again ages passed away in the materialities

During this time the materialities revived and raised themselves to a great upswing

In particular the four communities which until then had moved forward in their development only with effort made an unprecedented progress

The spiritual sparks found in gross material bodies sprang forward in their recognition and ennobled much which until then had remained simple in its simplicity

The manifoldness of the unfolded material culture of the peoples in beauty and in symmetry refreshed the developed ones, and they became wiser and more enlightened

The Light-bearer became for them a counsellor and a leader, whom they revered and to whom they ever took refuge for counsel

The Light radiating from him led the highest wise developed spirits in the materialities, and these began to call him the Sun God, who illumines all through his radiant greatness and might

And the Light-bearer accepted this reverence and cherished those who turned to him in entreaties and in thanks

He inclined himself to those who revered him and let them know his favour through success and through fulfilment in all that they asked of him

Precisely at that time there permeated the halls of Valhalla for the first time a strange trembling, in whose echo there was borne a flicker of refusal

Despite this trembling, however, all the High animistic servants remained in service as helpers to this messenger and further fulfilled the tasks required by him

Further they wrought in their activities, at the command of the Light-bearer, happenings which seemed to the human spirits like fabled fulfilments and miracles

Only the exalted O-dio-nar, who through the direct ray of his origin bore within himself the union with the primordially created Mercury, remained alone in the halls of Valhalla and became grave

His eye beheld more than the other animistic servants were permitted to see

It was a strange shade of radiance which was now found around that great radiant messenger out of the heights

Whenever O-dio-nar looked faithfully upwards, the radiance which descended to him from the heights from the steps of the castle of the Grail was other than that which issued ever more out of the gleam of the Light-bearer

The difference in the radiance was but small, yet it did not escape the perceiving of O-dio-nar

Thus therefore the wise O-dio-nar sent his Phermos upwards with the disquieting tidings and with an entreaty for counsel

Silently his faithful messenger returned back from the heights, gliding hastily downwards along the ray of Mercury

In the halls of the Grail, in the nearness of Parzival, there had also already been noticed in the Light-bearer his deviation from the original radiance which the archangels bear within themselves in their whole devotion to God

Then O-dio-nar sent Phermos upwards once again, for he wished to know what was the cause of this change

"The becoming aware of his own greatness" was the tiding which the youth with the winged silver sandals briskly brought

O-dio-nar had the mighty trumpets sounded, in order to call together those of his servants who were not with him at that moment in Valhalla

He had for all a grave message out of the radiant heights of the Grail

The servants heeded the call of O-dio-nar and in expectation filled the halls of Valhalla

Bowing before the exalted O-dio-nar they divined that they would not be called without grave cause

A strange trembling, in expectation of something important, passed through all who were present

O-dio-nar raised himself upon his step, whereon stood his mighty seat, and prepared to speak

At that moment, however, Valhalla filled itself with a blinding gleam

Into the hall there entered the Light-bearer

His countenance shone with a radiance of mighty kind, and against him even O-dio-nar himself now appeared only as a dim reflection of the blinding Divine star which the Light-bearer bore upon his brow

"If ye will follow me, then follow me" his voice rang through the space "I will make you yet mightier than ye now are, and the developed ones will revere you as deities. Ye shall rule over them in my power"

A deep silence spread through the hall

Then from the heights a ray shot down and, like lightning, penetrated the form of O-dio-nar

The gleam of the faithful steward of Valhalla, in the strengthening from Mercury, became luminous and shone ever more

His faithful ones were seized by the glory which issued from him, and although it was other than the radiance issuing from the Light-bearer, it was near to them and awakened in them joy and enthusiasm

"Who art thou, that thou wilt lead us" thundered the voice of O-dio-nar

"There is only One Whom we know and Whom we honour above all"

"It is the Primordially Eternal, Luminous Father Who dwells on high, in heights unattainable for anyone"

"Solely out of His Will have we all arisen to life"

"He is the Creator of all things and of all beings"

"Thou thyself also art no more than His servant"

"Hearken faithfully to Him, as it beseems everyone whom He has created, or else depart from this sacred hall, which serves solely Him and also His Luminous Son in the radiant castle, and no one else"

"Remember that we here in bliss remain the faithful servants of our exalted Ruler and Giver of All Life

From Him we draw the power without which we are nothing,

"Hearest thou, thou presumptuous one, of ourselves we are no one, we are permitted to be those who we are only so long as we remain His faithful servants"

In the stillness the thunder which accompanied the roaring of O-dio-nar died away

A mighty tension permeated the space

That which was spoken by O-dio-nar shook the Light-bearer, and across his countenance there passed a flicker of inner struggle, for under the impression of the words that had died away there sounded in his innermost a quiet reminder of the blissful, devoted service, when he himself felt himself to be nothing before the greatness of the Divine radiance flowing to the archangels from the throne of the Creator

The struggle, however, was short, and refusal was victorious

In the archangel there trembled wrath against this strange people of servants who had come forth to life in such far distances from God's throne

They had arisen to life only here, in this strange dim plane which they called their homeland, and yet they will instruct him about that which he knows far better than they

He indeed knows the Light better than anyone here

A part of this Light is in him, he is the most strongly shining here in this Creation far from God

The Light which he bears within himself is far more radiant than in any one of these weak creatures

Without him these inhabitants of Valhalla are of themselves nothing

It was he who brought them the true recognition of beauty, which they learned to know and to create for his aims only under his leading

Will they then not see who he is

Again there permeated him a trembling of superiority and of wrath over these dim servants

Then he mastered himself and spoke exceedingly kindly to O-dio-nar

"Now thou hast decided"

"Yet how thy people will decide, let us leave to each one of them"

"I shall now depart from these halls and shall return hither no more"

"Whoever wills to be with me, let him follow me into my further working"

Again silence spread

Then again the thundering voice rang forth

"Depart, and know that the gates of Valhalla, which faithfully serves the Luminous Father, are closed to thee" called O-dio-nar

The Light-bearer looked round upon the servants who were here and of whom many knew him and had until then faithfully helped him in his working

"I offer to everyone that which I have offered you until now, nay, I shall bestow yet much more upon him who will follow me" he said with a strange smile, and his radiance worked with an irresistible brightness

As he departed, a small part of the servants joined themselves to him, and these passed through the gate of Valhalla never to return into it again

It was, however, only a small part of the animistic servants which followed the voice of the Light-bearer

The greatest part of the servants remained faithful to O-dio-nar and thereby to God the Father

In many, however, a great struggle took place, for the archangel worked upon them with an overpowering impression

Thus precisely the mighty Hareiars and many others like him struggled with how they should decide

As the hesitating servants were permitted joyfully to recognise much later thereafter, in remaining in the nearness of O-dio-nar they made the wisest decision in the whole of their existence

Out of those who followed him the Light-bearer made doubles of the exalted High animistic ones, and upon the developed spirits who hearkened to him he forced that they should revere them as gods, before whom they trembled and knew not what they might expect from them

Thereby there were woven into the knowledge of these servants confusions and caprices, and no one of the developed spirits knew for a long time who was a true servant of Valhalla and who was his double working in the service of the fallen archangel

Unhappy were the animistic ones who let themselves be deluded by the Light-bearer, for they now forever, instead of true service, became only shadows obeying their leader, who in the granting of his power commanded them to do that which of themselves they would never have done

Through the separating themselves from Valhalla, they could not do otherwise

They had severed themselves from the life-giving power of Valhalla, and the only power which held them in life was that which the Light-bearer gave to them out of himself

All in their working by degrees became perverted, and they became slaves in the dark army of the fallen archangel

They knew that they were dependent upon their leader with their being and their non-being

Therefore many of them were ready to fight against the Light and also against their former fellow servants out of the purely radiant Valhalla

That, however, was a prospect which was yet first to come
