Out of the Light there are supported all those who hold within themselves the independence and the freedom of their inner being

The Light itself is from the primordial beginning filled with freedom and with an exalted pride

Therefore the Light cannot form a connection there where in earthly man there is lacking the personal, joyful, conscious responsibility towards the Laws of Creation, which from all time is inseparably bound up with the true freedom of the human spirit

If men saw what immeasurable worth the power of their free walking through life possesses, then they would do everything to free themselves from the thought-forms which are not their own work, but are only something taken over, something ready-made from those who were here before them, or who in the present world of thoughts are the stronger and are thereby able to penetrate even there where, under healthy conditions in man, they ought to have no room to take hold

Thus many a one supposes that his thoughts and his opinions are his own, yet in reality he forms his judgments for the most part out of threads that have proceeded from others

Thereby man remains in part dependent, without in any way recognising it in himself

It is not necessary, however, for the inwardly free man is always able to work upon his own judgment, built up first of all upon his own recognition and experiencing

Even though we may work with that which others have formed in thoughts, this is never to oblige us to be guided by it without our own examination and to seek no further connection with new prospects and understandings

A truly free spirit never agrees headlong with another, so long as he has not himself attained in genuine striving to his own view, whether this be in accord or on the contrary perhaps even divergent

At the same time he thereby holds reverence towards the other and does not force his own recognition upon him

His view he may offer, yet he is not to expect unconditional agreement, for thereby he would indeed already beforehand rob the other of his freedom

He would deny him the freedom of his own understanding

This demands inner greatness, liberty, patience, and of course also the bearing of one's own freedom within oneself

Alas, of such men there are not very many upon the Earth

For the most part we meet only with immaturity and with spiritual pettiness

It is often precisely pettiness and one's own unfreedom that forces upon others the necessary condition of agreement

Only the strong one goes his way and in calm, without attacking others, blazes his path as the result of his conviction

Never does he act dishonourably nor undermine the trust of those whom he may find to be such as hold another view and another knowledge than he himself

Such is the conduct of a truly free spirit, who manifests his own inner greatness and liberty by granting to his fellow men the right to another degree of knowledge

It is, however, heavy, immeasurably heavy in the present time, and truly only very few among men are able to swing themselves up to it within

Yet it is to be mastered, to be attained, if only man strives for it in his inner being

The spirit itself in reality thirsts for its own free understanding of all that surrounds it

That is the law out of which, in the luminous heights, there was formed unto its kindling the spiritual spark which man bears within him

To create with full worth, to serve the Light with full worth, such is the living wish of all that is spiritual in Creation

This legacy slumbers deep within the inner being of every man, it cannot be denied, it cannot be effaced

It can, however, be suppressed, veiled, wrapped in a stifling grip in a covering of merely supposed knowledge, which is not the true one, but is only and solely something taken over, perhaps learned, or something that has penetrated into the mind of man out of his surroundings

With knowledge taken over, however, the inner being of man, his livingly blazing spirit, needs to work and to seek to perceive it intuitively from many sides

That is of course a work which no one else can do for him

It means to hold constantly within oneself an alertness of the intuitive and also of the thinking kind, which always works with the full staking of its forces for the holding of one's own responsibility and therewith also of spiritual freedom

All the helps and strengthenings in Creation incline themselves towards man and lead him helpfully to the understanding of this glorious work, which is directed towards maturity, towards wisdom and towards a freedom that cannot be taken away from without, a freedom which every human spirit is to hold firmly within himself

Every progress therein is in itself a marvellous bestowal which cannot be handed on, for it is rooted in the personality of the human spirit

The Laws working in the work of Creation lead everything in man to the understanding of this gift of freedom, which alone makes it possible to fulfil the true measure of wise responsibility and of maturity

It is an exertion, a struggle, and without an inner liveliness of the intuitive perception one cannot move further therein

At the same time, however, it is plain and exceedingly natural to every man

The great helper resting in the spirit itself, the intuitive perception, needs only to be awakened and made to ring out like a clear bell, which surely discerns good from evil, the pure from the impure, justice from injustice

At one stroke there can be cast off all the barren chatter of the intellect about things which the spirit perceives intuitively, clearly and distinctly

In endless debates the inner being of man only entangles itself in the nooses of intellectuality, until at last there leaves him the joy and the freshness which streamed through him before, through cunning and through pride in the small knowledge of his own brain, he let himself be drawn into a labyrinth wherein everyone must sooner or later lose the clear way

There is no need to occupy oneself with things which only take away strength, for all in the work of Creation, in its justly working Laws, is in reality plain and simple

Out of the heights there now descends the refreshing support of the Light, summoning at last to the great awakening those who wish to become truly free

Many helps are sent forth by those who in their ripening were permitted already beforehand to draw near to the refreshing currents of the spiritual breath of a free, unfettered being

Their working is filled with joy, with liberty and yet with a conscious service to the Light, wherein they find only support for their further growth and for the unfolding of themselves

With joy they extol Him Who wove into the Laws of His Creation the love which supports every creature towards the unfolding of its gifts and faculties

In free thanks they offer their faculties to the Grail upon the summit of the work of Creation, for their reward is the ever new recognising of the inexhaustibility of being

Their blissful flight upwards is a call to all who still upon the Earth struggle with the exertion which is bound up with the acceptance of one's own responsibility for oneself

Whoever gives forth from himself all for this exertion will be borne upwards by the same stream of uplifting forces, for the freedom of his spirit will bring him ever nearer to the home in the exceedingly glorious gardens, to the Light-bathed plane of the true home of human spirits, in the heights of the work of Creation

Let there therefore come the full awakening with all those who already behold the prospect of the way leading to the Light

The acceptance of personal independence and of responsibility for all that man intuitively perceives, thinks and does is the blessed beginning of the ascent towards the true freedom of the spirit
