The Experiencing of Futility and Hope

Many a one among the men of today stands very near to the hour when before his eyes there will suddenly arise the experiencing of the picture of the futility of his life

The experiencing of the futility of the greater part of that manner of existence upon Earth which he has lived until now

This hour is coming and becomes an awareness which is ever more frequent for a great number of men

It comes unexpectedly through the call of the inner being, which will not be content with the direction in which the path of a man's life is going

In dust and in hopelessness there lies all at once that life which but a moment before appeared brilliant and almost unshakable

With the wrench of an instant all is suddenly otherwise, and there remains only pain and incomprehension

It is the hour in which man intuitively feels himself to be alone, often betrayed by outward circumstances and by the men working within them

As though all that exists had lost its meaning, and the empty shell discloses that the real and the genuine is wholly lacking

This condition leads the inner being of man gradually to the great crossroads of life

Before man there stands a great decision, which asks of him one thing only

The remembering of his purer, inward consciousness, which remains within him somewhere deep down

If he hears within himself that which is purer, then there opens before him gradually a new prospect, suddenly there flows to him the strength for a new rousing of himself, for the seeking of the true meaning of existence

There reaches him a call, descending from the heights “seek, seek, O man!”

The call storms within man and urges him to the remembering of that which once, long ago, stood at the very beginning of his path

The spirit intuitively perceives this call within itself

It still only gropes, yet it seeks to seize a little of that ancient thing which vibrated in brightness and in childlike lightness

This awakening of the spirit is a question of inward strength and also of courage

It is not, however, difficult, indeed it is in truth easier than it ever seemed, for the Light in its helping effect streams to man unceasingly

Only those men who have let themselves be too much enmeshed by the mistrust of others, who are too much influenced by the hopelessness and the decay which have crept in to them from without, only they do not see the prospect, and at the said crossroads, after this experiencing, they therefore set out upon the way which leads them still further into wandering and into despair

These then cast themselves into a still greater whirl of madness and of worthlessness, excusing their doings with the superficial motto “we live only once!”, or with a yielding to a fateful powerlessness

Such ones it is difficult to help, for they themselves do not will to hear more clearly out of themselves that quiet call

There is nothing else to do but to let them walk upon their confused ways

But there, where the inner being of man has not yet grown wholly crusted over and where there lives a gleam of the remembrance of something ancient, echoing out of the far distances of a more luminous past, there the spiritual helpers can bring refreshing rays for the strengthening of the trembling intuitive perception

Thus the experience of the futility and the worthlessness of life comes to man in order that, like a shock, it may open up the parched soil out of which, in the refreshing of the spirit, the hope of a new path for him is to sprout forth

This experience, however painful it is and however often it means the tearing down of the whole laboriously built edifice of the life lived until now, means nevertheless the rescue of the spirit

The experience of futility is therefore to be welcomed, for within it lies the announcement of the opportunity of a new resurrection

It is the result of the time of today that for many a man only collapse and futility can any longer be of help, so that a true awakening of the spirit may come at all

The condition in which the greater part of modern men find themselves calls for the wormwood of futility as the beginning of the cure leading to the healing of the spirit

Thus we now stand before a time in which the taste of bitterness over themselves will be a part of the experiencing of many hosts

It is not, however, to be so that these should take fright, withdraw and in fear turn still further downwards, but in union with the helps streaming out of the Light a new morning is to dawn for millions of men

The bitterness at that which exists is to be the starting point towards the new

Everyone who has experienced the like, when the shocks to the edifice of his life helped him too at last to rouse himself from futility to the hope of spiritual enlightenment, everyone such is now to be ready to help all those who are just drawing near to the first tasting of the wormwood

Help is to be given to other men in their pain arising out of the experiencing of futility

The Son of God, Jesus, showed the way of the true helping of one's neighbour

Let everyone, therefore, who bears within himself the recognition of the prospect of the true meaning of existence stand in readiness, prepared to help his fellow-men in their passing through the great crossroads of life

Futility is to be transformed into hope

The Ray of Parzival transmits sufficient forces for all men living upon Earth, that they may change and, instead of continuing in a superficial wandering through life, may find the way out and the source of true enlightenment

A great host of men is drawing near to the great crossroads of their existence

And it is not in the least prepared for the experiencing that is coming

A shattering upon this crossroads in the first moment is therefore to be expected

Prepared therefore are those to be who bear within themselves the connection with the Light, that they may be permitted to help those who in their shattering, in the impact of the experiencing of futility, will still bear within themselves a spark out of which the hope of the new can blaze up

In intuitive perception, in thoughts and also in the alertness of the earthly degree we are now to be those who in the Circles of the Peaceful are able and willing to help, standing in our place, purely and wisely towards other men

For this there comes to everyone a radiant stream of strengthening out of the Light

He who is of a pure inward disposition and holds within himself unceasingly the flame of hope, he is near to the connection with the prospect which will lead him further, upwards

His helpers from the heights help him to wipe away the deposit of intoxicating earthliness

Suddenly the inner being vibrates blissfully in joy

It is the Light that presses through to the essence of man and works as a strengthening stream towards awakening

The call from the heights transforms futility into the unexpected discovery of the treasure of the spiritual spark dwelling within

Jubilantly the spark presses upwards, in order to unite itself with the whole of the universe

Let us give thanks for the experiencing of futility which comes to this one or to that one still in good time

And he who does not need this experiencing and who finds the source of his strength high in the Light of the Wise and Just working of God lastingly in every day, let him give thanks still more, for he did not need the blow of the threads of fate for the awakening of the humility and the purity of his spirit

Solely and alone within us is the crossroads which leads either to the Light, to life, or else to emptiness and self-destruction

The experiencing of futility is to be a helper in the freeing of oneself from the said emptiness

In a single experiencing we can find much, very much, indeed everything that is needful for a genuine existence

In the experiencing of futility there lies hidden thus, in the time of today, the miracle of rebirth for the spirit

Called are all those who have reached the bottom of the emptiness within themselves

May the Light now stream to these in heightened measure, to strengthen them and to raise them to a new life, vibrating upon new foundations

May the spirit within, enlightened by the Light, be henceforth the sole determiner of his deeds

Without a claim to anything from men, the noble walking through life is in the first place to be directed as thanks and praise to the Holy God

Futility can and is to be transformed into hope in this time upon Earth

Hosts of the blissful stream towards the Earth and call “Free your spirit from the threads of mistrust and of ignorance of the blessing of God, which goes out to all of you who with purity in your hearts seek protection and comfort in His Light”

Quietly and gently the voices ring “He who bears within himself the will to good and does not grow faint halfway upon the road, he will be raised, and his pure inner being will find shelter in the Justice of God”

Let us not fear the collapse of those earthly plans and expectations which grow out of the fulfilment of the present earthly striving, they are only temporary, all the more let us seek our support in the Laws of Creation, and then even that which today is still the smallest will grow into a rich, blessed harvest

May everyone who has been touched by the pain of futility pass rightly through the crossroads which offers him recognition and the true meaning of life

Through the universe there now streams the Ray of the radiation of Parzival, a ray which brings strengthening and support to every man who is pure within

All is prepared for the help of the man who finds within himself the courage to be himself in his decisions concerning life

Hope shines, it streams, it is everywhere around us

Let us hold it, let us bear it within us and let us give it onwards there where the soil has been prepared for it through experiencing

That is the way which now lies before us

The way which has long awaited us
