The End of the Unworthy Bondage of the Human Spirit

Whoever has once truly intuitively felt freedom in his spirit will never again wish to let himself be riveted back into the fetters of the intellect

The full experiencing of the concept of freedom brings the recognition of the greatness of the being of the human spirit

Thus it was always meant to be

But alas, it is not so in the present time

Today even many very good endeavours towards the attainment of spiritual freedom in man for the most part grow weak and end at last back in the said grip of the intellect, which thereafter holds the spirit fast in the nooses of the gross material world

In his bondage to the gross material world the spirit grows weak and lacks sufficient inner resolve to break through upwards

Thereby matter enslaves him for a long time

The greatness of being is connected with the promised great enlightenment of the spirit on Earth, which in its victorious form is yet to come

Today the liberating volition is covered over by binding thoughts of a materialistic kind, which persuade man that it is something impossible to become spiritually enlightened already during the time of his life on Earth

Therefore it is predominantly a matter only of brief flashes of a clearer perceiving, which appear here and there to some people in extraordinary moments of their brief sensitising and thereby of the brightening of their intuitive receptivity

Although the number of awakened people increases who are aware of the urgent need for the overview of the spirit above the intellect, the majority of them carry on within themselves a long, desperate and as yet not entirely victorious struggle for spiritual enlightenment

For the existing manner of the thinking of men it is not at all easy, for the strongly over-cultivated intellect defends itself against it by every means

At the present moment man does not succeed in holding to a spiritual overview above all life in materiality, for the forms of narrowed thinking taken over from past generations contain nothing of the kind

This confirms the painful state of the inability to recognise in how many things the intellect intervenes in the true freedom of man

The daily thinking, as it is customary for the majority, works against the spirit, for earthbound material thinking is not capable of perceiving that which is destined only for the intuitive ability of the spirit

Only very few truly rightly and lastingly intuitively perceive what is and what is not in accord with the harmony of the whole of Creation

Therefore it happens that whole weeks and months are not for a single moment experienced by man freely with his spirit

The daily consciousness is filled with a rolling host of thoughts directed only upon everything material, exactly according to the way in which man has them impressed into himself in his intellect through upbringing, school, adopted customs or the duties of work

The pressure of the bondage to the intellect is far too strong to permit the spirit to free itself for any longer time and to use its will in a truly free, pure and worthy manner, as should rightly belong to it

The spiritual intuitive perceiving in the inner being is not yet able to penetrate the crust of learned thinking

Thereby there reigns in many a person a confusion as to what really comes from his spirit and what belongs to the influence of the intellect

Thus more than one person calls an endeavour of the soul a purely intellectual work, when through feverish study he learns by heart the thoughts of other people, in which he seeks to obtain a strengthening for his weakened affirmation of life

He supposes that he can study out for himself the way to the Light, although somewhere deep in his inner being he hears a voice which speaks of the necessity of pure, uplifting experiencing through intuitive perception

And also through endless effort in brooding over the faults of themselves and of other people, some wish to raise themselves to the gardens of the spirit in the heights

They study themselves, they observe the shortcomings in their fellow-men and, in the supposition that this is right, they carry on in their thoughts a struggle for the uprooting of the faults which in their view hinder their spiritual ascent

They practise self-abasement in the critical condemnation of their own nature

They even regard it as the right kind of love when first and foremost only an implacable severity is applied, of which they suppose that it is demanded by the Creator and that its fanatical application will precisely carry them upwards to the spiritual planes

All this may be called bondage under the pressure of the intellect, for it is nothing other than an over-strained thinking called forth by the intellect

Here there is lacking the blazing up of childlike joy at the simple consciousness that life has been bestowed upon man by the Creator

Only here and there does man experience something truly living which comes from the spiritual inner being

As a rule it is in the moments when he may do immediately something that vibrates in the human application of pure virtues

Whether it be a strengthening thought for a fellow-man, a deed out of good intention, help given where it is needed, when man does something of the kind without hesitation, immediately and without conditions

If there is in it the flame of pure enthusiasm in a single moment and in some sense of good volition, then there always vibrates in it a spark of the higher value of human life

This then automatically elevates the spirit, and he experiences all at once something such as the higher meaning of life

At that moment there comes to him at once a joyful volition, for the connection with the spiritual principles of the virtues always strengthens and refreshes

Thereby the spirit raises itself upwards to the Light, inwardly it draws nearer to the spiritual home

He experiences a breath in the flash of enlightenment

Then man says to himself that after all it is worth living

And that is exactly the right thing

Precisely for the sake of this enthusiasm something of the kind should always be sought and fulfilled by people

It should be at once enlivened and strengthened within man, wholly grasped and further unfolded, whenever such a vibration of higher intuitive perceptions enters his life

It should be for him a strengthening to remain further in such an attunement

It should awaken the will to tend this higher attunement in the inner being, to unfold it further, just as a sensitive gardener tends every sprouting little plant which has newly freed itself from the grip of the cool soil and has pressed upwards to meet the rays of the sunlight

To rise higher and thereby to unite with the Light through man's freeing himself from a rigidly uniform manner of life is for the present time that stepping out of the fetters of the bondage of the intellectual disposition of the world

If man strives for an inner intuitive attunement which manifests itself in pure thinking and acting, then only in such a moment does he receive the strength to be truly free in his spirit

However much this should always have been something self-evident to people, today it is something very precious

The reason is the lack of simple childlikeness in the present, whereby people necessarily move away from the ability of a lasting volition of all-embracing good

And it is precisely pure childlikeness which makes it possible for the human spirit to soar upwards into the heights and simply to will only the good so strongly that the disintegrating activity of thought of the frontal brain loses its power over him

Childlike simple perceiving frees the spirit from the influence of the nooses of thought, which on the contrary seek to bind him with the force of their conviction that one cannot be trustingly and purely thinking and good, because it does not pay

The nooses of the thought-forms thereby work directly against childlikeness

They press upon the consciousness of man for so long that they again weaken the simple kind of the pure attunement of good

They then lead further to brooding, which, with the right childlike pure attunement of the spirit, is to have no opportunity to take hold in man

The predominance of heavy and disintegrating thoughts which occupy themselves with hopelessness in many questions of human life works like rust upon a structure of iron, or like rot upon a wooden building

They corrode and dissolve the path to joyful volition already entered upon

It is in part the natural influence of matter, from which the intellect originates and which thus takes for itself its tribute of limited perceiving for the fact that man may live here his earthly time of being

It should never, however, have gone so far as is the case in the present world of thought of men

Mistrust and the struggle for small earthly everyday things take away the living powers of the spiritual kind, which were meant to be destined for a higher ideal

But because the earthly world remains in its development far behind the original level at which everything should already have been, there takes place here for a long time a repeated shattering of the powers of the spirit in the experiencing of mistrust, of uncertainty and of fear for the further existence, and thereby of the inability to experience pure joy

Something of the kind, however, is only a gloomy nebula of doubts which takes away the trust in the work of the weavers of the threads of fate, in whose fulfilment there is always reflected the great effect of the Laws of Creation

Immediately together with this there comes a weakening of all the powers in man, weariness, and in a long-lasting attunement then illness, and finally also the complete loss of all hopeful prospects

Therefore away with all complicated thoughts and with brooding about oneself and about other people

Nothing of the kind leads upwards to the Light

Through brooding there are only laid upon the spirit the fetters of bondage, without man in his material reasoning becoming aware of it at all

In the end it goes so far that man is afraid to be more childlike, mistrusts his own openness of pure perceiving and suppresses within himself every thought that the way upwards leads through the childlike simple liveliness of the spirit, which needs of necessity to free itself from the rigidity of the hitherto manner of thinking and of experiencing life

Precisely in that which alone can help man, that is, in the joyfully childlike acceptance of everything with the trust that all is moving towards the better, there has come about in human thinking the greatest weakening

For many people it has become a rejected and mocked naivety, without people noticing that they thereby rivet themselves into the cold prison of their spirit, pervaded by shadow

Away from it at last

Only in childlike trust in the result of the application of the higher power of the Justice of God in all happening, whether this be merely intuitively perceived or be supported by the knowledge of the Laws of Creation, lies the victorious way to the liberation of the spirit from all the basenesses of earthbound thinking

Trust in the Justice of God, which is inseparably and eternally united with the Love of God, affords man a support for the beginning of his effort to direct himself with his intuitive perceiving and his thinking towards a childlike pure volition of good

The ending of all unworthy human bondage, which consists in the toiling after matter, is connected with the awakening of pure childlikeness in the inner being

The renewal of the guileless volition of good for the whole world and for all people is the starting foundation from which the liberation from all states of mistrust, of the loss of one's own worth, and of the piling up of new disappointments in other people and in oneself is to unfold

The opening of the ability to find in everything first the better is connected with the pure spiritual childlikeness of man

This is because this kind of perceiving unites with the inner being, in which there remains lastingly laid the first perceiving from the luminous planes of the gardens of the child-souls, where at the beginning of his being in Creation every one of men sojourned

Freedom in man is always connected with the kind of childlike pure experiencing of trust in a better tomorrow

In it lies the power for the complete change of all life into the new world of tomorrow

And because all this is laid in the inner being of the human-spiritual spark in every person, it is possible to begin with it at once in absolutely all people on Earth

It is possible to awaken trust in the good at this very moment

This day, without further waiting and postponing, a beginning is to be made with trust in everything better that will come

If on the part of man there is placed into it only the living will of the wish for all-embracing good, without wavering and without falling back again into mistrust, then he may rely with complete certainty that in the threads of his fate the dawn will begin to break even after the longest-lasting night

There will come the dawn of new opportunities which could not appear, because mistrust in a possible better existence hindered them in it

The fetters of the ponderous, mistrustful intellect, which have closed around the spiritual spark, had to turn all striving downwards, into an ever deeper prison

Bondage to a material understanding of life has become a way of life which people alas have accepted voluntarily, in the supposition that it is not possible otherwise

But it is precisely possible, and with the continuing development we draw near to the point when spiritual enlightenment will show wholly without embellishment that unworthiness of the servile manner of life of billions of people on Earth

Whoever therefore is able to free himself already today can step forward to meet the new disposition of the human experiencing of everyday life

In his trust in the Light and in the Good there will be contained a power which will change absolutely everything on his hitherto path

He will be automatically drawn forward by the magnetic power of liberating knowledge

New prospects will make it possible for him to walk towards the promised spiritual enlightenment ahead of all the people who still today suffer in the fetters of intellectual ponderousness

His spirit will hasten to meet the great knowledge of Creation coming from the Light

And every new understanding of the connections in the way everything is perfectly pervaded by the All-Wisdom of God will be only an influx of new liberating power

The knowledge of Creation, in connection with the childlike pure openness of the spirit, will bring revolutionary and blessed changes into the life of everyone who now truly longs to free himself from the captivity of the boundaries of materialistic thinking

The work of his spiritual inner being, which is connected with it and which demands a lively mobility in the receptivity of intuitive perception and effort in healthy reasoning in the work of thought, will be a thousandfold rewarded by the beneficence of knowledge

The state of enlightenment, when over everything in man there reigns his mature spiritual perceiving, can become a lasting presence

This state will bring about inner and outer peace in every person

Only then will such a person recognise what is the content of the concept of freedom

True freedom is connected with spiritual consciousness, with the knowledge of the Laws of Creation, and also with the knowledge of all the helps which are sent down to the spirit on its path of ripening by the Love of God

True freedom is an inseparable part of the knowledge of Creation

Whoever knows the direction of his path and walks the ways with childlike openness for the reception of new knowledge is truly free within himself

His spirit can then do nothing else than hasten to meet all the good which draws near to him through the rightly recognised Laws of Creation in a lasting strengthening

Blessed are they who are truly free in their spirit and in their mind

To them the Wisdom of God affords inspirations enough that they may become beneficent mediators of the Light and of the Good for themselves and for other people

Therefore there now comes also the ending of the hitherto unworthy straying of millions of people who under better conditions would with certainty recognise a fulfilling way through life

The fetters of the rigid, over-ripe thinking of the past will soon be torn away

This will bring the end of the bondage of the spirit, which in reality is to stand purely and freely above all thinking and acting, which hitherto his rank materialistic intellect did not permit him

In spite of the confusions hitherto and the growing folly of the masses, it may be called out with certainty:

“The ending of an unworthy era of the human race on Earth is drawing near!”
