In the place where man lays his head to sleep, precisely in that place he is to look with calm confidence upward to God and to His servants in expectation of the coming days

The peaceful perceiving of all that comes is supremely important, so that in the constant maintaining of a calm surface of the lake there may be mirrored in the inner being of man, as in a mirror, the connection with the luminous heights

Only he who maintains within himself, in spite of all that draws near to him, peacefulness, only he will be permitted consciously to experience how there descend to him helps out of the Light, through the servants sent out by God, who will be able to be permitted to bring to him, in answer to his confidence, all that is needful, so that the earth may at last belong also to him, in the fulfilment of the words of the beatitudes of Jesus about the promise of the earth to those who remain for ever peace-filled and humble

To maintain now, in the present months, this inner peacefulness is, however, even for all those who know the Word of Truth, a great struggle

Thus in many a man there now rises all too often the force of disagreement and of indignation, in the not understanding of the steps which are carried out outwardly in society

Many a one's tongue then itches greatly, that here or there he may not fail to express himself with sharpness upon the burning moments which strike him even already in his personal life, tempestuously raising up in him all the perceiving of his healthy intuitive perception

In his zeal such a man then lets himself, in spite of his recognition of the Holy Word, be carried away in a weak moment by the neighbours who are around him, to anger, to reviling, or at least to sharp criticism of that which is happening

It appears to him as supremely natural to lay himself with criticism into much of that which rolls around him and towards which millions of men with passion at once seek to take up a supporting or on the contrary a condemning attitude

It even seems to him as a neglecting of his human duty, when he imagines that he should perhaps precisely now keep silence about the happening

Thus in many a one it is strained, it seethes in his inner being, and more than one man feels himself like a rider upon a strong horse which is already, already ready to dash violently forward, as soon as the rein of peaceful thinking would but be loosened and he gave himself over to criticalness of the happening around him

Yet such a knowing man, tossed by unrest, is not aware that in this ill-fated manner he at once ranges himself with the stream of such thinking, which as a rule can bring neither help nor a way out, but only disintegration in the shaking of values with other men

The knowing one is withal always to have a view upon that which is happening, and this truly knowing view will bear within it, together with a clear perceiving of the high spiritual task for the directing of men, also the striving after a peaceful and matter-of-fact seeking of the direction which bears the all-embracing quality of spiritual recognition in a wide working

He who now wishes to stand firm in the connection with the real helpers in the spiritual worlds, whom in this time the Love of the Will of God sends out to the materialities, and who draw near to those men who hold within themselves, together with confidence, also nobility of character and matter-of-factness in all their doing and thinking, he needs inwardly to raise himself above all that presses upon him

Only in the nearness of such men shall we now be able to behold the picture of the helpers coming from the Light, who bring genuine helps and inspirations, and who then return again upward to the heights of the spiritual home

It is the streaming circuit of a great stairway of light, when down the one side there descend the helpers and spiritual leaders of man, according as he needs through his maturity their various kinds of help, and afterwards these, in their fulfilment of the handing over of a message, of a picture, of a thought, return again, in order, in the joy that they were permitted to find a place where it is possible here on earth still to maintain the connection with pure spirits in earthly bodies, to bring into the Luminous planes the tidings of the still enduring possible rescue of the earthly world

Joy reigns over such a place, where to the pure, flaming inner being of man the streaming from the heights may draw near, for help in the present time

Such soil, however, needs to be maintained lastingly in a pure and right attunement

And precisely all earthly excitability, unrest and discontent in thinking causes the severance from the Light in those men who would otherwise appear in their knowing as ideal for the joining with the helps which are now, and in the future will be still much more, needed

Let us consider that we find ourselves still only at the beginning of the first sweepings of the Sieve of God in mankind

All this is only the beginning of the coming happening

What will men do when there comes the further degree of the power of the Ray of Parzival to the earth, if already today, at that which is happening, they are torn out of their inner poise

The peaceful surface in man needs to be freed and cleansed of the low thoughts of unrest and of discontent, which in reality only disturb the spirit of the knowing man and lead him aside from the great creative service to the Light

There then threatens here continually the assault of the furies and of thought-forms of a low, ignoble kind

If the thinking in man is preponderantly taken up with the earthly forms around him, then these forces of the spiritual kind cannot be used in the right manner, and either they cannot join themselves with the man concerned, or they swiftly flow away again upward without the effect of help

They flow away sooner than they could bring blessing to himself, or to other men seeking in confusion calming and consolation

Also the hands of the animistic ones working in the world of nature on earth need a special influx of the forces of Light, which precisely knowing men can bring to them, through their purity and harmony in their inner being

If this does not come to pass, then the earth will remain deprived of the needful helping radiation of forces, which cannot join themselves through man in order to be at the hand of the animistic servants

Also the inspirations for other men, who often have within themselves the pre-conditions for the finding of helps in the material, but who are not themselves sufficiently pure and luminous that the power might come directly to them, remain without the possibility of anchorage

Thus many men remain without inspirations and act in the limitedness of their merely earthly outlook, which necessarily brings bad results, and thereby again they only call into life further and further grounds for discontent and for the bitter criticism of others growing out of it

Even the knowing men themselves then grope and have no clarity upon their path forward in earthly life

This causes the braking of the helping forces which can now help to rescue the paths of many men who otherwise, without the influx of forces from the Light, would have to collapse into hopelessness

It is a state in which there cannot come a moving of things towards a way out, towards the bettering of many places in the life of man, and this in return causes unrest and peevishness, and thereby again still less can the connection with the Light be found

It is like an unending vicious circle, which necessarily directs everything only downward into confusion and hopelessness

Precisely knowing men, however, have within themselves the capacity to change it, to cut through this circle by the mediating of peacefulness and of a matter-of-fact approach in the working through of the streams of Light into everyday life

They can be helpers to many men, yet not through criticism nor through discontent, but only through their own pure confidence towards the Light and towards its helping working

Where, however, we shall find such a needful spiritual dedication of knowing men, that is a great question

Precisely in this, however, knowing men now need to separate themselves from the crowds and to go a way which breaks a new direction, which leads to a pure and unshakable confidence in the protection and help of God

Nothing unjust will press upon the knowing man, unless it be still a returning of threads out of his own past, or unless he himself opens himself to wrong streams through his attunement in the present

Calm confidence in the helps sent out by God is now the most important thing which knowing men are to seek and also to pass on to their neighbours

Therein rests the protection of themselves and above all the effective help for many men, to whom thereby there can be mediated a radiation important for their spiritual inner being

Therefore there is to be a turning aside from the learned paths of the endless judging of that which happens outwardly in society, and all the power of the spirit is to be directed in a knowing working for the wise help of God to individual men and to the earth as a whole

There is no time for the criticism of the existing world, if it is urgently needful to lay the rails of a new direction, leading to an all-embracing way out for whole multitudes of awakened men

The face of knowing men is to be turned away from the existing outward happening at once in the moment when this disturbs the inner attunement for the receiving of the high streams of the helping Light

This task lies, among other things, in the hands of many women, who precisely have within themselves the capacity for the receiving of the creative weaving of the delicate forces of Light, which are today precisely very needful for the upholding of the earth in her wavering

And therefore let this peaceful and pure attunement be a part of the everyday inner state of that woman who longs really to help the Light in its purifying working on earth

In this manner there is to be formed a great quantity of ladders of Jacob

Of those ladders which have within themselves the possibility of a pure and lasting connection with the Light

Upon these steps there can and are to descend to the earth the helpers who are very needful for the inspiration of those men in whose hands lies the possibility of a real bettering of things on earth

The help of the Light is not to be purposely directed here or there, nor to this or that man

The help from the Light is to be woven as purely mediated threads bestowed upon everyone who may then take for himself out of them something of help, through the setting of the purity of his inner being

There is therefore not to be here a purposeful sorting as to whom the helping stream belongs and to whom not

Let us leave it to the helpers that they may distribute this power brought to the earth in such a way as it can afterwards be most wisely used for the uplifting of human doing

It is always to be thought of that the measure of the ruins rests in the hands of knowing men, who as ones called from the Light are here for the help of this little planet in the world-part of Ephesus, and can be fellow-rescuers of much which otherwise would have to crash down

Be it said that there are not meant here works of a material kind, but it is a matter of the building of bridges into the new time on earth

Through the mediation of knowing men there can and is to be created a sufficiently wide bridge for the crossing over the open abyss of the world as it is set today, into a purified, luminous community of men on earth, who will be able to dwell in the newly established time blessed by God in this universe

For this it is needful to awaken in man a great portion of love and of an all-embracing wish for good, as the initial foundation of the newly directed development of the thinking and the volition of men on earth

For this, too, there was given to knowing men the recognition of the Word of Truth, that they might use it creatively and strengtheningly, and not merely as a handle for critical flailing about oneself against other men

Let each one look to his own work, that his spirit may not miss anything of that which is now to be fulfilled

And it is a great purification which still awaits every spirit who longs to serve the Light

Very much needs to be laid aside and transferred onto a wholly new foundation of the setting of thinking for every moment of life on earth

Many dark formations in the planes of thought and of intuitive perception around the earth can be dissolved solely through the kindly wisdom of knowing men

Hand in hand with this goes of course also matter-of-fact strictness as a stream of the power of Light which maintains purity

This matter-of-fact strictness, however, needs first to be used by knowing men towards themselves

In sharp consciousness the manner of thinking of the knowing ones needs to be separated from the superficial criticism and discontent of the crowds

There is to be set a wholly new stream of thinking, which creates and breaks, in a knowing directing, new channels of the connection of earthly men with the Light

All ballast needs to be removed

The ballast resting in the endless superficial thoughts of discontent and of criticalness towards little earthly things

Only to those who are in a lasting, knowing, conscious connection with the Light can there now come strengthening, protection and blessing

Only to such can the earth be given for use, when all that is dark and low will gradually be lived out and in its manifesting be removed from the soil of the hitherto suffering Erda

For this, however, knowing men need themselves to fight their way through with their own transformation, so that a really new setting in their thoughts and deeds may become a certain and habitual foundation for the new existence on earth

This new setting has its key in a peaceful and harmonious striding forward, without the disturbing vibration of discontent and of anger against other men

Where a foundation for the new is to be found from the Light, there the soil in man now needs to move further away from the hitherto learned lamenting and from the blaming of one's own vicissitudes upon others

Patiently, courageously, and with confidence in the wisdom of the servants sent out by the Will of God for the help of man, there is now to be experienced everything which will still emerge around knowing men

The soil in the individual needs therein to ripen and to have a pure clarity, as it was with Jacob, who in the moments of persecution and enmity took refuge wholly in the protection of the Holy God, and thereby formed within himself the soil for the vision which was granted to him in the picture of the radiant steps down which there descended into his nearness the exalted helpers sent out from the Light for his protection and consolation

The vision of these steps is a real happening, which fulfils itself always towards every man who attains within himself genuine purity and humility in the lessening of his wishes and conceptions about a wanton and comfortable life

He who is able to bow his head to sleep there where his repose is appointed for him by the Will of God, who accepts beneath his head even a stone instead of downy feathers, and nevertheless will have within himself peacefulness and peace, he is prepared for the receiving of the true helps from the Light, which can bend down to his spirit and bestow upon him far greater gifts than he himself would be able to imagine

He who is able in simplicity and humility to receive all that now roars and thunders around him, and nevertheless maintains within his inner being harmony and kindliness, he will one day be a true husbandman upon this earth

Let every knowing man build up within himself a ladder rising upward towards the Light, which will be like that which Jacob beheld, and then there will begin to stream to this earth the genuine help of God, which will awaken and liberate individuals and also whole nations and continents
