Millions of spirits are dying away for lack of the life-giving Light

Billions are losing hope, for they find no way out

Mankind on earth, in its searching, receives no answers in those places where it rightly expects the refreshing Truth, but where it is constantly given only sand and stones

To the most earnest and urgent questions neither science nor religion still gives true answers

In the attempts at giving answers everything needful is lacking

There is lacking in them the fulfilment of heart and spirit bound up with the wise kindliness of the Truth, which alone mediates trust and calm in the clear knowledge of the higher meaning of human existence

Whole hosts of seekers are led astray elsewhere by today's expounders of scraps of knowledge, away from the real refreshment for which their inner being calls as for the most precious rescue

The inner being of the men of today needs first of all to be endowed with the Light, in which, in the vibrations of fervent strengthening and kindness, the refreshing Truth is to be found

The Truth is the Light which mediates enlightenment to the human spirit

Where the genuine Light from the heights of Creation does not come through man in kindness and helping gentleness, there only stones are given, there new thorns are cast into the path of all those who seek the kindly touch of a hand held out in help

It may therefore be said: where there is no knowledge of the Truth, there is also no possibility of connection with the Light, however much the inner being of those who help glows with the longing to bring strengthening

At the same time it also holds good that where the Truth is already near to men in whom, however, the influence of the lifeless intellect persists, there the lack of understanding for others remains, for the intellect is far from the urgently needed fervour and warmth of heart

The Truth without the heart is not living as it needs to be, so as to be able to bring refreshment

Thereby the bridge to all seekers is drawn up on the part of those men who themselves were permitted to recognise the Truth

The holding of the knowledge of the Truth merely in one's consciousness of thought surely means as yet nothing for the spirit

Those who have the knowledge of the Truth, which came to them in the written form of the work In the Light of Truth, are therefore, in the further giving of it while helping others, either lifelessly cold in their inner being, or they have not enough power from the Light within themselves to recognise rightly how greatly needful it is to pass on refreshment fervently and in a living way to other human spirits

In their attunement they are thus themselves in many cases still hungering, and in their hungering they then bear within them only a further weakness in the will to help their fellow-men

Into everything the naturalness of the spirit in his pure joyful enthusiasm needs to penetrate

Man is not God, nor is he a judge, but he is a creature who lives continually from the vibrations of the support granted to him through the higher helps of the Light, which all the inhabitants of the work of Creation need

If man, therefore, is to work rightly in Creation in his high spiritual kind, he needs to let all his capacities for fervour germinate within him as a means of helping others, and also of cooperating with the omnipresent kind of the animistic, which is his support in Creation

These capacities lie, together with fervour, in the brightening of the inner spiritual radiance, and in this happening they are the simplest beginning and starting-point for the betterment of the world

What that spiritual radiance is, however, almost no one among men knows today

Many consider it right if, in the sense of the Truth, they are first of all sharp rebukers of others in their spiritual negligence and lukewarmness, and thereby they consider themselves true warriors of the Light

Others, on the contrary, see the rightness of the way in allowing men to do everything that does not directly harm others, in the sense of the words “to the pure all things are pure”, while others again, in ignorance of all the connections, lead their supporters and followers, in a well-meant striving for rescue, along ways tending towards a complete severance from this world here in the waiting for the coming of the great salvation of the world

This, and yet a thousand other ways proceeding from the most varied human opinions, we can find today among men as endeavours to mediate help to those who in the present time are seeking firm ground under their feet

In the end, however, we find as the visible result, and thus at the same time as the incontestable proof of the wrongness of such endeavours, only a constantly growing despair without hope of a visible improvement in the meaningfulness of life, and that truly all over the world, no matter where we look

All this testifies again and again that effective help demands to be led in a different direction from the one in which it has so far generally been done by men

The conduct of the majority of men on earth today lacks the needful sincere fervour of the spirit, bound up with the right knowledge of the Truth – contained in all the great happening in Creation, as also in the finest happenings around the human spirit

Just this together has alone the power to kindle hope in the hearts of one's fellow-men

There is therefore lacking here the clear connection with the living streaming of the genuine knowledge of the Truth, which bears within it the possibility of bringing reinforcements right down here to this earth from the luminous planes situated high in the work of Creation

That there is lacking that convincing and inwardly unshakable knowledge of all the lawful manifestations in the whole work of Creation shows itself in a wrong expression in words in almost every sentence which men who have the knowledge of the Truth utter at the most varied moments of the day

It shows itself precisely in this, that through their words and deeds that high power does not yet stream sufficiently, which may flow only when the human spirit, in his pure openness and peace-filled fervour, is connected with the living forms of the true refreshing knowledge about the work of Creation and about the Laws of God, in which this work swings

Yet only in such a uniting streaming can the spiritual bread be given to seeking men who long to find hope

This, however, is something which has so far never been attained among men on earth in a sufficient measure, which alone would have the power to bring a change towards a better life for mankind

The awakening of a living spiritual fervour in the inner being of man, bound up with the knowledge of the Truth, is therefore that so greatly sought remedy for all the pains of the world hitherto

The world needs to be raised upward by this one possible way – through the pure fervour of the spirit, in which the living knowledge of the Truth glows

For this, however, he who longs to help others needs to stand here on earth as a man who loves the whole of mankind

He needs to become one who rightly sees the misery and distress in the pain of others, instead of primarily condemning them in their insufficiency and weakness, which he is permitted to see through the knowledge of the Truth that came to him

He needs to rise above this and, in spite of everything that accompanies the state of mankind, to love it in the fervent longing to help it to climb nearer to the Light

It is a condition through which all the Heralds of ancient times also passed, even before they became endowed by the Creator with the Light for helping their fellow-men

That is the necessary part for attaining a view of mankind other than that which man had before

It is often a complete turning about of the way of thinking held until then

Such a thing also requires a sufficiency of inner ripening, for to love mankind demands the ability to bear within oneself the maturity of the highest consciousness of the spirit in the moment of the present, and that under all circumstances

He who speaks to others mainly only to rebuke and instruct them in their faults does not love them sufficiently, if at the same time he is not always able to see how sorely tormented the soul of a man may in reality be who outwardly manifests himself in some wrong conduct

He who judges mankind only by its outward appearance has not yet become a true physician for human souls

For such a thing as true help to one's fellow-men he still lacks the needful fervour, which alone opens the ability to receive for others the right vibrations of the Truth

The rightly guided vibrations of the Truth, in its clarity and of course also in its necessary inflexibility, in many a demand of the healthy development of humanly spiritual existence, will nevertheless always be a balm upon the pains and weaknesses of this or that human soul, lasting thousands of years, if it reaches that soul in the right way

The right guiding of the Truth, however much it bears within it severity and inflexibility as regards weaknesses, will bring about release and liberation, if in it the spiritual fervour of the one who helps is perceptible

Such a guiding of words and deeds, performed in the fervour of a mature spirit swinging rightly and purely, so that he may become a channel for the living guidance of the vibrations of the Truth, is today so despairingly little used among men

This necessary part of the ability of compassion in the sense of a higher spiritual knowledge of other men is still greatly lacking here

The knowledge of other men means above all the ability to feel compassion with their state of soul

Let us but consider

If a man were to see on his way someone lying without help and visibly suffering pain, then surely the majority of men would not leave him without help

Only few men are so hardened and unfeeling within themselves that they would pass by a man thus suffering in his body without noticing him

Many a one would surely in his compassion at once seek with the greatest effort how to help that person

Such a thing is most highly right, and praise is due to all those who thus, in their readiness to help other men suffering in the body, wear their heart upon their sleeve

But around us there are daily, in their earthly bodies, many suffering souls who, straying in ignorance of their path and of themselves, bear upon their soul coverings the traces of grievous wounds and pain

But the outward manifestations of these hidden pains, bearing within them the immaturity of outward conduct, lead many of those who have the knowledge of the Truth, instead of to an inward mature endeavour to seek ways of helping such souls, predominantly only to the accustomed harsh condemnation, and not seldom even to the wish for further blows of fate upon the men thus afflicted

What maturity of the spirit with the knowledge of the Truth is there then in this, when he still lets himself be confused by the outer world and is incapable of an inward fervent view of other men

It is surely not then the maturity for which it is outwardly generally given out, but on the contrary a manifestation of one's own uncertainty and groping in the understanding of the manifestations of one's own life among men on earth, if a man with the knowledge of the Truth condemns other men, rejects their being here out of fears for himself, or shuns them in the assumption that he does not need them, because they have nothing spiritually equal to give him

It is not strength, but on the contrary weakness, which does not permit help to be mediated to one's fellow-men on all the levels of human spiritual swinging

The world and the men in it can and are to be loved in a fervent, noble and spiritually mature manner, as is a matter of course with those who dwell in the spiritual home in the luminous heights

Neither the world nor men are enemies, but everything is only marked by the deviation from the right direction of development which the parts of the Subsequent Creation here were also to have taken

It is at the same time a matter of course that no one can embrace the whole world and be personally helping to all

Everyone has his previously woven paths, which lead him to fulfil what in this life he can bring to realisation

Everything, however, unfolds from the attitude in the inner being

Even though a man does not meet many people personally, he is nevertheless able to accept and to love them in the sense of wishing the Light for their path

Not to take offence at others and at their faults in the sense of personal affront, as is a frequent occurrence among men, is the very beginning of the path to the right returning to that original kind of the great Harmony which was always to have been here for all

At last it must once be changed everywhere where there is the soil for it, which through God's help always shows the way along which man is rightly to move upward in his own ascent and in that of his fellow-men

Many men ask how they can change the world, although the change lies clearly before them the whole time

If they would only make use of everything that is close around them and, together with kindness, lay into it the fervour of their spirit, then gradually the small would first be dissolved and would flow over further, so as then to spread on and on in circles like waves upon the surface, which in the end do reach even the most distant shore

This shore is then also that highest politics of the national and of the world kind, where everything can advance towards a greater becoming luminous, however much the first paths may appear to be whole starry worlds distant from all that is better

In the enthusiasm of individuals striving for harmony in the smallest, even the greatest can in the end be changed

Nor will it ever go the other way round, but only and solely from the individual to the whole of society

He who mistrusts this has not yet rightly grasped the perfection of God's work, in which everything is bound together like communicating vessels

And no one of those who bear within them the capacity for something greater is overlooked by God's helpers, but his path leading to the fulfilment of his task here on earth will always be shown to him

Provided, of course, that in his maturity he is able to reach the degree of becoming one who loves this world in the sense of its true recognition through all the weaving of the Light which is to be found in it

In this, however, with many there comes a faltering of forces, for they are not yet able to love wholly and thereby to accept others as they are, and to wish them, in a fervent and pure attunement, God's blessing upon their path

It is no weakness nor softness, but there is in it a great part of inner strength, if the spirit is ready to find in it within himself the ability of his own lessening, while leaving in much of the happening room for the Laws of God, so that they may manifest through the courses which the hands of the Alphar determine for them

Patience, and also the inner faith in the victory of the Light without any colouring by one's own volition and one's own wishes, is the most precious manifestation of the inner greatness of the spirit

And everywhere where man can and is to work among men, there in his words and deeds the living connection with the knowledge of the Truth is to swing in the simplest manner, and yet at the same time in a manifestation which is full of warm dignity

In words which are to mediate help and strengthening to fellow-men whom the inner being has already beforehand been able to love with a spiritual all-embracing love, there can then be mirrored the picture of the chalice in which the refreshing sound of the Truth quivers and murmurs

Not through the outward force of words and their endeavour to strike in one's fellow-men the weak places persisting from immaturity and insufficiency, but in that most precious kind of working for the Light, which lies in this, that behind the spoken or written words there stand the pictures of the Truth, in which the whole work of Creation, and thereby also the Will of the Creator, is mirrored

The words are to swing in such a way that they bring the mediation of a higher radiation, which at once brings the Truth into effect, if the will of the man who works is opened to it in purity

The Truth comes through the inner greatness and harmony in all conduct, which rules in man as a prepared soil upon which there may then descend in sacredness something of a higher and more comprehensive origin than the nature of the human spirit himself

And it is just this kind of working which mankind here on earth now lacks in the measure that is needful

The power is lost in the pettinesses of all that is lower, which could already have been overcome by individuals for the fulfilment of a higher Harmony in this world

And here many a one will perhaps suppose that he is finished and that the others make mistakes, that they are unfinished and still too far behind

If, however, he himself is already finished, why is he nevertheless unable to love them, that is, to accept them inwardly and to wish them blessing in abundance

It would after all cost him nothing if in his inner being the wish came alive that the work of others might prosper in the best possible way, even though he himself would do this or that differently

What an uplift there would be in this, if such a liberation for himself and for others were permitted to arise in his inner being

It would loosen many obstacles for the general streaming of the reciprocal forces between individual men, who need not meet at all here on earth for close cooperation, for the task brought from the Light is without doubt entirely different for each one

What is most needful today is liveliness and enthusiasm for the sublime weaving of the threads of fate of one's own life

This demands such a degree of freeing oneself from much that it brings before each one of us the highest fullness for the utilisation of every moment of earthly life

There is never cause for waiting, but on the contrary it is needful to make use of the constant influx of possibilities of making one's inner being luminous on all the occasions which are brought to man

And that there is always something to ennoble in the radiance of the inner being, everyone surely sees best for himself, if only he wishes to see it

No one is exempt from it, for the scale of the ennobling of all the ways of human life is without bounds

With every step attained a new prospect opens, which leads to a still higher connection with the archetypes that can come to earth in order to give to the concept of human life an entirely new content and full value

And therefore it is to happen with everyone in his own way and in the genuineness of his inner being, so that no one becomes an imitation of another, for every spirit is unique in his disposition and in his abilities

In this lies precisely that liveliness which brings refreshment and hope for all the prospects of the lives of men, as many of them as there are on earth

No life need be regarded as empty of content and useless, for the essence in the human spirit bears a thousand ways of full value in the clear and noble use of the gifts of the individual

It is only needful to free oneself from the straying and groping which exhausts many and takes away the vital force for following the right direction, which lies in a joyful co-creating with others and with the whole work of Creation

That is that chalice of refreshing Truth, which is to be given by all and to all

Therein lies the awakening of hope for everyone, for in it no one is deprived by even a fragment compared with the others

The Creator would never have let anything so half-hearted and unjust come into being, that some should perhaps be at an advantage over others in the possibility of unfolding the humanly spiritual abilities

In the acceptance and in the pure living-out of the threads which perhaps still lie about the spirit, so as to constrict him and temporarily make free movement impossible for him, lies the starting-point of every beginning of ascent

Patience and kindliness filling the heart of man are able to dissolve all the ill-disposed threads which trail with man from his past paths

This holds good for absolutely every human spirit, if he does not himself make himself rejected for life in Creation

But if he may still be here, then he surely has above him the promise of a path upon which he can step at once, if he so wills and if he has the will for it within himself

If he bears within him the courage to become a pure man, freed from all wrong paths, then for him too there is here the chalice containing the refreshing power for the ascent

Everything on this path will then be helping to him, if in patience and courage he is able gradually to clear away what he earlier piled upon the path as obstacles between himself and the Light

If he perseveres, it will then become ever easier and more joyful for him, until at last he again attains the state of full freedom for his spirit through his purity and the luminousness of his radiation

Then surely he too will learn to give to others out of his fervour the Truth, which at a certain place on his path to the Light drew near to him in the fulfilment of the words of Christ, of the promises given to those who strive towards God

In the childlike pure opening of his inner being he will then experience a lasting joy, which he will find in every single moment in all the places of God's work of Creation

For all eternity his inner being will then be permitted to drink from the chalice of refreshing Truth, for he will no longer have within him obstacles to its receiving

He will be eternally young and blessed in his ever creative spiritual existence in the work of Creation
