Where there is knowledge, there is a sure strength and wisdom in all dealings

Knowledge is an important equipment of the spirit in this earthly world, for without the conscious recognition of the significance of human life in its spiritual essence there is here no foundation for a sure striding forward of the spirit in the many earthly decisions

To the man without knowledge there are lacking the needful signposts which would bring him clarification and the knowledge of the things upon his way

Even though he may err only in small things, the man without the knowledge of the whole way of the spirit will at last be caught in the net of the returning threads, which will halt him upon the way to the Light

The human spirit is to be knowing of the whole work of Creation also in the earthly world, he is to hold for himself the knowledge of all the matters working in his life here and in the further planes of the way upwards, so that as far as the capacities of the experiencing of his spirit reach, there may always be alive within him the recognition of all the influences and effects which are wisely placed at his hand by the Will of God for his ascent to the Light

The great gift of the Love of God lies in the granting of the outlook upon the way to the human spirit

It is the natural foundation of the human spiritual kind that out of its essence it clings strongly to the recognition of the direction which leads it to the spiritual home

At the beginning of the way it is thus with every spiritual spark

Yet the longer the way is and the more distant the places into which the spirit sinks in its coverings, the weaker is the inward call for the knowledge of the Light

The great law of free will, which is the possession of man, gives him the choice in his deciding

And this Law of free decision holds good with unchanged strength also here upon this earth

The Light does not insist upon an unconditional striving upwards of the human spirit, for that would be a denial of his own value

He himself is to decide how strongly the longing for the pure recognition of Truth burns within him

Whoever therefore does not wish to have knowledge is left in peace and may go his own way

He cannot, however, afterwards complain and defend himself by saying that he did not know something or was not acquainted with it, if in the threads of Creation the radiation of the Truth is brought into his immediate nearness in the earthly world

That through the rejection of higher recognition the human spirits, seen from the Light, designate themselves as lukewarm and comfortable, this earthman almost never makes clear to himself

The luminous spirits working in the radiant spiritual planes stand in incomprehension at how earthly mankind has contented itself with so desperately narrow a survey, although the blessing of the Truth which is now upon earth inclines towards it

Millions of men pass by this Truth even as fools and adventurers scornfully pass by a refreshing draught of water before a far journey through the desert

Yes, only fools and adventurers mock the knowledge which is so important for the way upon which they move and which they cannot leave, although in their ignorance of this way their spiritual being and non-being is at stake for them

And just as like fools do the earthly multitudes act, wallowing in lukewarmness, who mock the earnest questions of who we are and what the real meaning of human life is

Men mock these questions, to which they have no satisfying answers out of themselves

They have no clear answers, yet at the same time they do not hesitate to regard themselves as creatures standing at the summit of all life in the universe

At the same time, in the same breath, the more earnest men admit that in fact they know nothing

There is no greater contradiction than this, which concerns the unanswered questions of the real meaning of the existence of man, which man has long borne within himself, while at the same time it may be said that mankind has until now never been so near in an earthly way to the Truth and thus also so near to the answer to these earnest questions

It is a strange narrowness and at the same time an obstinacy which hinders the recognition of the helping knowledge

It is a contradiction which only confirms the picture of folly set forth above

This picture one can hardly even bring oneself to believe

One does not wish to believe that in earlier times, when the winning of the recognition of the Truth truly resembled the seeking of grains of gold in hard rock, men were more courageous and listened more to their inner being, which drove them forward in the fervent seeking of small fragments of knowledge about life

In those days many men earnestly struggled their whole life long with obstacles of every kind, in order to advance in their comprehension of life

Today, however, strangely enough, many a man resembles an over-fed animal which wants nothing more than to have its bowl full again and again and to play a little with the amusing objects around it, when at last it now and then raises itself out of its warmed lair

In its spiritual state the striving of the man of former times – the courageous and tireless seeker of the Truth – has the effect of the struggle of an ancient hero for light in the darkness

Today, however, this ancient hero is only a moulted wretch who makes it known on all sides that his best years lie behind him and that to a certain degree he is reconciled to the end which must come

One does not wish to believe that the human spirit can in many cases bring it to such an end that he is reconciled to renouncing the promise of enduring being in the blissful gardens of the promised spiritual home

Yet alas it is so

This indolence, bearing within itself the features of a dulled creature which knows nothing of the most important things, has, however, a laughable appendage in this, that spiritual indolence is almost always at the same time conceit

The lukewarm spirit surrenders without battle his precious strength of the higher kind to the material world, which with man manifests itself more and more through the intellectual intelligence formed here out of matter

The more lukewarm the spiritual inner being is, the more does the intellect in its self-exaltation regard itself as knowing and as self-assured in its suppositions about life

Such is the state, and with the greatest part of all the inhabitants of the world it is no other

Men suppose that they know the world, but they deceive themselves with the intellectual illusion of knowledge, for their findings are bound only to matter and thus do not bear within themselves the real wisdom and knowledge of the spirit

With this illusion and with the supposition that they “know”, they look upon the world around them and attack everyone who endeavours to reach the wholeness of Truth

The suppositions of the intellect quickly come to an end as soon as there comes to such a man an experiencing in which he is to prove that his spirit is really knowing and acquainted with that which in the given moment is taking place around him

There are very few men who are really equipped and armed with the knowledge which grants their spirit freedom and a survey from above in every moment of their life

For the most part we may say that the majority of men go blindly through life, without the knowledge of things, and thus there threatens for them that at any moment they will stumble and fall, or turn aside quite senselessly into a blind alley, or even set out in a direction which must for a long time remove them from the direction towards the spiritual home in the luminous heights

These things then happen almost daily to millions of men, although these are long-standing believers enrolled in the churches, study the most varied esoteric and mystical teachings, meditate, or endeavour to proceed from the intellectual experiences of a materialistic view of the world

Everywhere we look we find confusion and error in the recognising and in the distinguishing of the happenings which take place in the life of man

There are here only a few honourable exceptions in the case of those men who with courage strive again and again for the widening of their recognition, which proceeds from the wholeness of the true knowledge of the work of Creation and of its Laws

These men may always be recognised in this, that for every new experience in life they endeavour courageously to find the answer in their knowledge, and their spirit does not cease in seeking until a complete recognition from all sides in any new matter comes to them

Such an approach requires inward movement and the courage to stride continually forward in the recognising of new fragments of knowledge, and above all it leads to independent work in reflection

Thereafter it comes either to the intuitive sensing of deviations or, on the contrary, to the accord with the Truth, which permanently permeates Creation and fills it with its life-giving power

Thanks to this present life-giving power of the Truth there are always around every man sufficient impulses which in every single moment can bring the awakening of his spirit, so that this may with genuineness begin to concern itself with the connections which interweave his life as a lasting call to living movement

Therefore there is now to be spoken quite freely of the Truth and of the work of Creation, so that this knowledge may come ever more to the hearing of the men who need it and who in the near future will need it still more

Many will need the recognition of the lawful course of things in the work of Creation, as they now need pure air for breathing

Whoever is not able to raise himself with his spirit at least to the foundation of the knowledge of life, of its meaning and of its spiritual significance, will experience upon the inward plane the swooning of his soul, which will break down just as the life of the earthly body sinks and is extinguished if it lacks air for breathing

Just as the air enlivens the body, so in the same way the recognition of the meaning of the being of man works refreshingly and supportingly for the soul of man

The soul without the recognition of itself and without a clear knowledge of its part of the way through the ethereal spheres of the Subsequent Creation will now soon sink from exhaustion and swoon into unconsciousness

This happening will manifest itself unexpectedly and violently in the lives of many souls here upon earth and also in the planes of the beyond, where the endless hosts of erring souls dwell

And as the soul in the fine covering of the beyond swoons into unconsciousness, so in the earthly this state will manifest itself through the extinguishing of the inward meaning of life in man

Gradually everything will entirely lose its meaning for him, and through his inner being there will sound emptiness and hopelessness

This emptiness, however, man brings upon himself through having no will to the recognition of the real meaning of being, which is found solely in the recognising and in the unfolding of the knowledge out of Truth, and this recognising he long rejected, until at last he let this living spring within his inner being dry up entirely

The state which then arises may be called a collapse into aimlessness and into the complete loss of the meaning of life

Where for a long time man does not endeavour genuinely, where he does not strive with all his spiritual abilities for a new and courageous investigation of all that belongs to his being, there it will now show itself that even the little which he was hitherto permitted to hold as a paltry kind of surmising about some meaning of the human race will be taken from him

Now there streams in the fine planes a violent gale which demands a firm anchoring in a strong and healthy recognition

Where this recognition is not, or where it is not duly tended, there the gale will take away the possibility of holding fast to that hitherto existing recognition with which human souls were still permitted to console themselves that they know something

Blown away will be the consciousness of those souls which did not endeavour enough in their recognising of the Work of the Creator

In reality they know nothing which could give them a firm anchoring in the glorious work of Creation

Through their frivolity and their lukewarmness in their free choice these souls let the bright light of their being flow away from them

The recognition of the work of Creation, of the Creator and of His Primordially Eternal Will working in the living pulsation of the life of Creation is now demanded as the condition for the further conscious progress of human souls in their development

For the beneficence of the development of the spiritual spark working in the coverings of the soul the knowledge of the co-operation of the happenings in Creation is needful

To this knowledge belongs also the recognition of the Grail as the starting-point of all Life in Creation

And likewise the recognition of the King of the Grail Parzival and of Imanuel, the Holy Spirit, Who is united with Parzival in the Grail through the working of the divine out-radiation of Life into Creation

This knowledge is now required to be accepted by every human soul for its further way of beneficent development

Therefore there is now to be spoken of all the happening, this is to be brought nearer to men with a sureness and a convincingness which in its nobility of character will permit man only reverence and a quiet inward turning, if he now meets with these concepts

And men are to meet with this knowledge, which at the stage of their development is now required as a natural advance in their maturity

The time is here when all this is to be proclaimed openly, freely and in clarity as a new knowledge, which will either be accepted, or else men will themselves in their choice bring upon themselves their sinking and their swooning, which will be fulfilled through the working of the animistic servants held in readiness

Many men are inwardly ripened for this step, only their intellect will still in part struggle with it, for in the world of thoughts the channels for it are not sufficiently formed

In this direction much has been neglected

The channels are not prepared, and all this bears witness to the insufficiency of movement of those who were already permitted to recognise and to accept the sublime recognition of the Work of Truth from Parzival

Therefore much needs to be completed with haste, the bridges in the worlds of thought need to be formed to the end, bright and radiant pictures need to be prepared which will be able to touch the spiritual inner being of the seekers

Even the night should be used for this by all those who may count themselves among the men gifted with Truth

Nothing else should fill them, not the smallest time should be squandered

All needs to be laid into the sublime work of the spirit, which may courageously penetrate forward and cut the great channels of pure recognition for the hosts of seekers

Whoever does not comprehend this need is, despite the holding of a certain knowledge, lost in his sublime task

He will be severed, and his volition will lose the courage which may flow onward only to those who genuinely long to be in the spirit faithful servants of the Grail upon earth

The time is here when the readiness of the spirit laid into the sublime service is not to bear a single interruption

It is earnest work and a struggle for the Light on earth, but in all this it is always above all he who occupies himself with it who has the benefit of it, for to him first may flow the new streams of strengthening, in which his spirit gains ever more in its value and in its nobility of character

If men were but permitted to see how many gifts and helps hover around their spirit, they would have to be ashamed of every single moment in which the thought arises in them that they are alone and forsaken in this distant world of matter without a gleam of help from the Light

No one is forsaken, and everyone has all beside him

Every one of the knowing ones has around him glorious helping streams which his helpers from the heights of the Light weave towards him

Those who regard themselves as forsaken and given over to the world of matter have only forgotten the perceiving with the spirit

Into the state of the feeling of forsakenness they have manoeuvred themselves alone, through their insufficient mobility and lukewarmness, which brought them a certain rigidity of thought, out of which alone the suppositions of a forsaking of the servant on the part of the Light can arise

The Light never forsakes anyone, only men for the most varied reasons close their perceiving against the all-present helps from the Light

The most frequent reason is precisely the growing comfortable and the becoming commonplace of the manner of life, when even the thoughts of knowing men, instead of the radiant predominance of an enthusiastic volition to serve the Light, at last give way to the ponderous influence of the manner of life of the majority upon earth

Thereby a cooling and a slackening steals into the thought-work of the knowing spirit, and soon he no longer sees that which a short time before yet lived within him as a bright outlook upwards

In the wavering and the slackening of his striving it flowed away from him and vanished far from him

Yet in reality it is still within his reach, but he does not reach for it, because it seems to him that he cannot do it and also because it hinders him in secondary things

It seems here entirely vain to repeat and to recall anything of this, for men in their slackness will pass it by again and will remain standing in their place

Only to those who lastingly endeavour and who courageously penetrate forward is the reminder to be addressed of how precious it is for their spirit when they themselves, again and again, courageously penetrate ever forward in their recognition of the connections of the work of Creation – nearer to the Light

And of these connections there are here inexhaustibly and immeasurably many, and they lead the spirit ever nearer to the great accord with the whole of the work of Creation

Into a joyful rushing flight should the being of man here upon earth be transformed for him

He is surrounded by inexhaustible inflowings which always bring a new widening of the recognition of life

This should be ever near to him for his attunement, so that he may no longer lose a single day, a single hour in the ascent towards the recognition which leads him to the Light
