The Age of the Aether

The Age of the Aether is the promise of a new world of men in gross materiality

This time will soon dawn

The beginning of this age is bound upon the world clock with the period of the great spiritual enlightenment of mankind

And it will be a magnificent time, for the greater part of the wishes of all those who are inwardly pure will be fulfilled, of those who today, in the long experiencing of the present humiliation of everything spiritual, no longer even hope that the fulfilment of their longings can truly become reality here on earth

It will bring a complete transformation of earthly life

It will reach into all departments of human activity, where the cumbersomeness of today will become a distant past, much as when men today turn their gaze to the Middle Ages and wonder how the people of that time could live at all in such an age

The greater part of all the things which today surround earthly mankind as the state of a present we perceive as a matter of course will become something past

It will become something that gradually loses its significance, although these things still appear today, in the present ordering of the conditions of life on earth, as a necessary part of our existence

Many things appear as though men could not even live without them

Whether it be a matter of work or of amusement, everywhere we find the same feature of dependence upon the outward ordering of the present world

That this is a delusion which merely creates the impression that life is impossible without this or that thing of the present day is drowned out in most men by repeated assertions that this is right and that it cannot be otherwise

The change will come, however, and will reach into everything, so as to shake it and to move the development of mankind a further degree higher

All the present-day means which men regard as the result of their skills will be removed without hesitation by animistic hands wherever these prove to hinder the effective working of the animistic servants in nature and in the elements

Where today we find large and heavy machines, there their present work will everywhere be able to be performed by light mechanisms consisting for the greater part of wooden constructions, or of metal alloys as yet unknown to us today

It will be so because through the near presence of the Aether all human exertion will become lighter

In this respect the knowledge of the Aether and the possibility of its wide use may be called a gift of the animistic servants to an awakened mankind for its new stretch of the development of life upon this earth

And this precisely because the animistic servants were, and even today still are, wholly remote from men, since for the fulfilling of their service to the Creator any closer understanding has hitherto been generally lacking

Therefore the precious instrument of the animistic servants appointed for use in the material planes – the Aether – had also to remain aside in the consciousness of men

Were the Aether spoken of today in the full measure of all the effects bound up with its favourable influence, it would be held for dreaming and naive fantasy, and would at once be attacked by men of intellect with every instrument that makes use of the present supremacy of material science

With a loud brandishing of a limited knowledge of the universe it would be asserted that such a thing as the Aether cannot be proved, and that therefore all its helping effects for mankind are unrealisable

Therefore it makes no sense to speak of anything more closely, however possible it might already be today to describe it in the connections that are to come

Only to those who approach the thought of the Aether with the needed earnestness and who strive of themselves to proceed from the knowledge that a great shift of development lies before mankind can something of it be disclosed

If we speak of a shift of development, then it is in reality a wholly natural process

The shift would come about in any case, for the favourable radiation of the maturity of the universe is now here for it

This shift could even at the last moment find understanding among those who awaken inwardly, and thereby in part a co-operation which would be of benefit to men themselves alone

This, however, will not come about for some time yet, for unlike the universe human thinking is not mature, but lags behind in its development

And yet already today far more could be spoken of the beneficent effects of the Aether, in an approach of an ever more earnest and more ardent seeking for answers on the part of men

But because human thinking has long been afflicted with a dogmatic rigidity, the greater part of men today would approach the vistas of the Age of the Aether exactly as the earlier people of the fourteenth century would have approached the thoughts published even then which spoke of the power of the electric current

However much all this might be described as a source of natural movement and also a source of light in the nocturnal world of men, the people of that time would most likely have called it heresy, and it would have been a ground for persecution

Instead of a factual examination of the knowledge about the invisible world of electricity, everything would have been done by the people of that time to destroy all such findings

Even the people of a hundred and fifty years ago could not have pictured, in their general reasoning, how it would be possible through electricity to use all those machines and tools which today are the most ordinary part of every household workshop

And just as it is today with electricity, it will be perceived as something wholly natural when men newly make their own the use of all the possibilities which co-operation with the High animistic servants of Valhalla will bring them

Today, however, the knowledge about the High animistic servants of Valhalla, who can grant all the vistas of how to turn to use the knowledge of the working forces of the Aether, is far remote from a wider host of men

But precisely this will undergo a great shift forward

The present world will become the past, and in such a way that with the passing of time it will at last be hard for men even to recall the incredible cumbersomeness and the rigid immobility in all the fields of human doing of the present time

As the hindering kind of intellectual reasoning is pushed aside and the way of living inspiration in pictures of the spirit comes into far greater use, the streaming of the planes above gross matter, almost unused today, will be set in motion

To the earth, and above all to the men who will be permitted to dwell here, a path for the drawing of forces will be granted by way of the natural streaming of the Aether through channels which today must still remain wholly closed

The channels will be opened by that approaching revolutionary unfolding of human creativeness through the announced spiritual enlightenment

The time in which the Aether will be made accessible to mankind is therefore necessarily bound up with the awakening of at least a part of men in their spiritual comprehension of the world and of the meaning of a life closely attuned to the Will of God

In this alone we may already perceive how penetrating a change lies today before present-day mankind

Through all the channels of the human manner of thinking there needs to penetrate an understanding of the great processes of the work of Creation

Into everything there needs to enter the knowledge about the Laws of God, which in their simplicity and at the same time incorruptible consistency accompany and influence the path of development towards maturity for every single man

These Laws of God at the same time fashion and form all that we call the universe

The stewards of these Laws in Subsequent Creation are the animistic servants of Valhalla

They set these Laws into living movement, and this then unfolds in all the planes of the materialities of Subsequent Creation

Of the servants of Valhalla there is therefore much new to be known of which the greater part of mankind today has not the least inkling

It is needful for men to have as much knowledge as possible about these servants

Therein rests a great part of the approaching spiritual enlightenment of mankind

Enlightenment means that everything will be beheld through the Light of Truth

The Truth about the true meaning of human life is to become the original driving force for everything for which men will strive already here on earth

And because such striving is worthy of support from the Light, more helps will be granted to men in proportion to their honest striving

They will be helps which cannot yet be given quite openly to present-day mankind, for in its false attitude, which for the time being still persists, it would drag them down into destruction, as has hitherto been the case with everything the animistic beings granted to men at the command of the Creator in the form of the gifts of this earth

The Aether, the knowledge of it, and above all the knowledge of its use for the support of human life, is an important part of the great development which is yet to come, so as to bring complete liberation from all the baneful consequences of the hitherto winning of the material motive forces and of the heat which men need for life

In the same way the knowledge of the enormously strengthening effects of the Aether upon human health will penetrate into human consciousness

Hitherto very little is known of all this, or rather nothing at all, if we look at the knowledge of intellectual science and compare it with the living use of the effects of the Aether in all the animistic creating and upholding of the universe

These are but pitiable results of the intellectual approach to something so fine and at the same time so omnipresent as the Aether

In several recently published texts THE WAY OF THE GRAIL has already shown vistas for the recognition of all the wondrous properties of the Aether

The Aether is a radiation having the form of omnipresent spherical particles of a continually pulsing power

The power is of the animistic kind and is bound to a core which is always a little seed coming from the spiritual

The Aether must therefore be approached otherwise than as merely one of the physical forces hitherto known

For it is a kind of force which in a certain part of itself works consciously

Therefore it needs to be called humbly, so that it may draw near and work together with men

The force of the Aether is drawn of itself by any movement whatever of material particles

It matters not whether it be a finer movement, that is an electromagnetic movement, or an outward movement, that is the mobility of the gross material substances of the elements, or of matter reshaped by human hands out of the working of the elements

To all of this the Aether is drawn, if such a movement is anywhere present

Beside this, however, it is needful on man's part to add a trustful call, filled with humility, to the Aether for its co-operation

Men need only to reason rightly about it

Here lies a grave reef, which strikes against the manner of reasoning of men of intellect

It is precisely the lack of humility, which is to bear within itself the purest thoughts, that has hitherto been the obstacle for the greater part of those who seek the Aether as a new kind of force for man

The greater part of men stumble already at the mere thought that they should admit the reality of the world of the animistic servants

In men influenced by the intellect there rebels even the mere idea that the proud world of earthman is surrounded, and moreover strictly watched over and administered, by animistic forces which have distinct forms and shapes

The intellect long ago pushed these forms of the animistic servants into myths and fairy tales, which with a smile it leaves for small children alone to play with

And now it is to admit that these servants, who work in absolutely everything in nature and in the universe, are real

This obstacle of the intellect rules out in advance the greater part of present-day men from working their way to the state in which, with humility and with the awareness of the existence of the animistic servants, they call the forces of the Aether to co-operation as those who for the sake of this co-operation are willing to adapt themselves to the most varied circumstances

Therefore there will be so many men who in the end strike against the boundaries of their own intellect

Only to those who again become more childlike in perceiving the world around them will the new Age of the Aether open

This age will become a necessary part of development which the earthly intellect in its arrogance sought to leap over

Something of that kind, however, cannot be done without a wavering

In the end a fall must come which will in part return the world of men to the place where with their inner being they were able to perceive simply and purely the activity of everything animistic around them

It is the place where it was possible for men to work together with the animistic servants in the common weaving of a world swinging in the harmonious cycle of the forces

And only from this place can earthman then ascend upwards once again

Sooner it is not possible

Therefore everyone who in the present time seeks a path of development forward needs again to link himself with the past ages on earth, when the working together of men with the animistic servants was something wholly natural

Men need figuratively to return into the long-forgotten myths in order to find their path of right development

Only in that moment will they grasp why it has hitherto not been possible for mankind to master the force of the Aether in its inexhaustible and continual influx

Only then will everything open

But this time is already near

Everyone therefore needs to tense all the powers within his inner being, so that the spirit, in its capacity for a healthy intuitive perceiving, may become the leader and the arbiter over the intellect

Without this progress, which concerns every single man, no possibility of entering the new time can be expected

This is now a Law which will yield before no human wilfulness

From this standpoint all the present-day political scheming and economic haggling among the nations is, among other things, a wholly pointless affair

The Will of God and the animistic servants, who are the fulfillers of this Will, pay no regard whatever to anything of that kind

For them all human doing that has arisen out of intellectual designs and earthly aims is something secondary, for they look always and solely to the fulfilment which is of a spiritual kind

On this ground every man may with an entirely free heart forsake all the so burdensome following of the present-day endeavours of men of intellect, who contend for power and for the enforcing of their notions about human society

Quite soon all this will prove a senseless squandering of the forces which are now needed for the highest intuitive sensing of what the individual man is to do within the compass of his own life, where at every moment a precious space is granted to his free will for the proving of his personal nobility of character and of his spiritual worth through deeds in the present

Every moment of the present is in this respect immeasurably precious, and therefore needs to be used in the most wakeful manner

In the way a man stands the test precisely in these seemingly small things of the present rests his further fate of spiritual development

Small things are in reality, in the Laws of God of the work of Creation, upon the same plane as the greatest decisions bearing upon the whole social life of mankind

The Aether is ready to open itself to each and every man, and not only to rulers, to scientists or to men of earthly wealth

And precisely in this rests everything for the nearest future

In it is contained the whole further development of the happenings, which will go quite otherwise than men have hitherto pictured it

It will go along paths woven according to the Laws of God

To these Laws, then, everyone is to give heed in the most wakeful perceiving of the intuitive perception

Everything else is a mark of spiritual sleep

And the sleep of the spirit means immobility

The Aether, however, flows only there where there is movement

In the case of man this movement always begins from the inner spark, which is of the spiritual kind

Therefore in all places the call is now to sound: “Let everything hasten only upwards to the wakefulness of the spirit, to the wakefulness of the intuitive perception and of the heart”
