Just as a stroke of lightning which comes out of a clear blue sky is held to be unexpected, so likewise in the coming time will the working of the animistic weavers of human fate be fulfilled, who can bring man a sudden end of his earthly being
In the fulfilment of the threads of fate it will reach man all at once, and he, however unprepared he may be, will find himself in the presence of the exalted being Sthyx, who will at once lead him onward into planes of a more homogeneous environment which corresponds exactly to the degree of maturity and of luminosity of his spiritual inner being
Like a tearing aside of the curtain the earthly being of man will end, and heedless of his thought-plans in his gross material life it will direct him towards an experiencing which will correspond to the real inner condition of his spirit
And this happening now comes to the earth in the intensified working of the high animistic servants
It will begin to be fulfilled ever more, as though it were something wholly self-evident in the fulfilling sequence of the happening of the Light upon earth
For earthmen, however, it will in its inexorability bring fear and anxiety, for therein there will manifest itself even strikingly the effect of a higher happening, which is mightier than man together with all his hitherto intellectual cleverness
And because men have grown unaccustomed to the conception that some higher will dwells above them, their surprise will be accompanied by fear and by uncertainty as to what in that connection awaits them further
This, however, will fill those who will still be left in earthly bodies
These will be subject to a strange shudder at the realisation that something such as God and His Primordially Eternal Will, which is fulfilled above men, really is and can also take effect in this gross material universe
Those who will be suddenly taken, however, will have no time for such reflections, for they will find themselves drawn into a happening which will bring them a complete wrenching out of their hitherto lukewarm form of surviving
A single flicker will separate them from the tranquil flowing of the earthly world
The mentioned tearing aside of the curtain will all at once bring a state in which the soul of man finds itself suddenly upon the other shore, although man himself, but a moment before, did not perceive that anything of the kind could come into his path
It will not be merely the result of a purely earthly cause, as it is with sickness, in war, or in the happening of the elements, but it will be the consequence of a sudden calling of the threads of the soul, which will be strained taut under the pressure of the influx of Light
For the animistic servants it is a natural happening to bring man into a state in which the loosening of the soul for its passing to the other shore comes about all at once, if the conditions for it are present in man
For this a strong change of the radiation of the blood suffices, or an intensifying of the pressure upon some organ vitally important for man, for example upon the brain, the heart, or upon the organ of the liver, which is in the highest degree important
Today the liver in the majority of men is overburdened by the unnaturalness of nourishment and by the whole manner of life, therefore in the coming times it will be precisely this organ which will be the fundamental cause of a sudden change of the radiation of the blood, which is in its charge
And because the body of man is wholly given over into the hands of the animistic servants, with whom earthmen have already quite ceased to co-operate, in the coming times almost no one can know beforehand when his time will come to be called away from this earthly world to set out upon his further path
Men do not divine how the animistic rules the material, nor that to the very last particle the animistic knows everything about the human body, knows its radiation and thus recognises with certainty all the weak places which it conceals within itself for a long time, indeed often for a whole life
If therefore the time comes and the given human spirit is called in the pressure of Light to show whether his earthly time is fulfilled, then the animistic brings to the body the power which it draws from the Ray of Parzival, and the earthly body will be tested as to whether it stands or not in this power of the Ray of Parzival, which will gradually become self-evident for the whole earth in the new age
To this intensified pressure everything in the Subsequent Creation is now subjected, that is, not only mankind upon earth, but also the world of nature, the ethereal spheres, the animistic, in short all that dwells here and together forms the life in the Subsequent Creation
The animistic and the nature ruled by it welcome this pressure like a new sunrise after a long night
The time reserved for it must come as a purifying and liberating happening which brings a new ground of the Light after the accomplished binding of Lucifer by Parzival
Of this time of great upheaving events mankind has known long since, for already the Son of God, Jesus, spoke of the time when there would come upon earth the son of the Householder for the harvest of all the fruit
This time is coming and brings with it the accompanying happenings which must be fulfilled, for they are inseparable from the purifying work which the Light brings in the happening of the drawing near of the Ray of Parzival into the most distant materialities
Now we are plunging into this time, and the boundary between this world and the beyond is to be loosened, so that the threads binding themselves to the soul and to the spirit of man may be permitted to manifest themselves more directly and more distinctly also in the happenings of the earthly world
Thus all at once the soul of man will stand loosed from the body, which will remain aside so as to afford shelter no longer, for the time of the earthly being of such a man has been fulfilled
In this time more than ever before men cling to their being in the earthly, for all their attention is fixed upon this plane of the consciousness of themselves through the body and the brain
Thereby they have wholly estranged themselves from the wisdom of the earlier peoples, who from birth onward prepared themselves for the mentioned time of the passing back into the further planes of the manifold work of Creation
And therefore men today are the least prepared for this passing, in the supposition that anything of the kind is if possible still far from them, and that when this break of the passing should draw near they will surely somehow be made ready for it by their helpers, so that they may recognise it in sufficient time and direct their thoughts towards this change
In this men still appear as those who have wholly forgotten all the announcements of the near fulfilment of the Judgment of God upon this earth
So long therefore as it goes, many say to themselves: “There is still time, it does not yet after all appear as that age which is only sometime in the future to arrive”
Sthyx, however, has in her peacefulness entered into the nearness of the earth, for in the years to follow the happening is to be fulfilled in which all that is animistic will fulfil upon earthly mankind the Holy Word of Truth to the last particle of all the happenings
And precisely in her peacefulness Sthyx appears to men the most to be feared, for from her approach there breathes the unchangeableness of the command which she receives from the Vaenen as the little bell of the time of the fulfilment of human fate upon earth
The tearing aside of the curtain, that is, the stopping of the pulse of the earthly body, does not mean the end of the human spirit, but is only the expelling of the soul of man from the earthly plane to a further continuation upon paths which will lead it into a more quickened perceiving of the places to which it belongs
To men pure in their inner being, if their present body does not bear the heightened pressure of the Light, that is, if they do not stand in it in this present earthly incarnation, it will bring the nearness of bright and blessed places, where they will meet those who have gone before them, or those who patiently await them from the very moment when they, for some purpose, joined themselves with the threads leading them to incarnation upon earth
Now they are set free and can return again thither, where the Light has more radiance than was the case upon earth
Their path will lead them ever higher into the nearness of the places where their real home is
For these the tearing aside of the curtain will be a change which will lead them towards the Light
Perhaps they will also be able to return yet to this earth in a new incarnation, into a newly prepared earthly body and into new conditions, if there will still be something in their threads which binds them too strongly to the experiencing connected with this degree of earthly matter
For all who in their inner being are inclined towards the Light the vista of the coming happening is therefore filled with grace, in which there lies hidden the vista of a further being in Creation, however much this vista is connected with the ethereal planes not much known today upon earth
Those, however, who thus far in their volition entangled themselves in the oppressive threads of an ugly and impure kind, they are after the passing to the other shore drawn swiftly downward into the lowlands of the darkness, where there remains only very little hope of redemption
Through the tearing aside of the curtain of life there comes about the loosening of the threads connecting the soul coverings of the spirit with the earthly body, and before man there suddenly emerges the sequence of his coming direction, which gives him no time for reflection nor for a subsequent atoning for his previous volition, whereas but a moment before, in the earthly body with a clever intellect, many men held themselves to be untouchable self-assured gods
They held themselves, behind the rampart of their material body, to be well protected from the effects of the Justice of God, which they mocked by their deeds and by their proud thinking about their own untouchableness
Suddenly, however, everything is otherwise, and the pull of the tension of fate goes against the resisting of the soul far from the Light, which recognises that the end draws near
To all calling, entreating and lamenting, or on the contrary cursing and reviling, there comes always the peaceful answer of the servant Sthyx, vibrating in a certain fullness of peace:
“The Grace of God grants to everyone sufficient time for recognition and for ascent
Thou who hast used this time, be blessed for thy further being
Thou who hast squandered the time, thou canst demand no more”
Nothing more sounds against the loud outcry, or on the contrary at other times against the mortally appalled stillness of the soul which recognises the approaching real spiritual end of its being
In spite of a certain, even cold detachment of the earnest servant Sthyx and of her helpers, there is in this time always perceptible a peculiar peace-filled dignity of the moment of the crossing of the irreversible boundary between the differing degrees of materiality
This happening is the moment in which there is fulfilled the taking effect of the threads hitherto imperceptible for man in the earthly body, which now drag the soul thither where it belongs by its weight, or on the contrary by the translucency of its purity
It is a crossroads of the soul, which may be called the weighing of the soul, yet at the same time it is a wholly self-acting happening unfolding within the framework of the Primordially Eternal Laws of God in Creation
The end of earthly life thus, after the loosing from the body, brings a change such as earthmen cannot even imagine, in the living fulfilment of the Justice which is at once fulfilled down to the smallest particles
For some the tearing aside of the curtain is a deliverance and an opening of the vista upon the splendour, the lightness and the blessedness of the further path, for others it is the opening of an unexpected chapter of horror in the recognition of what all at once comes
For the one, then, together with the removed curtain there sounds the joyful call of ascent in the vista of a being manifold more joyful than the density of the earthly body allowed
For the other there sounds then from all sides to his ears a voice whispering “The end, the end, the end”
Yet the end does not come at once, but is accompanied by a wandering along the threads of all that went before, in which every single moment of consciousness is shown to the soul as an opportunity squandered by itself in the deciding between the better self and the base wishes which pervaded the soul at some degree
Until at last there appears before the gaze of the soul the very beginning of the humanly spiritual spark, a beginning which for all human spirits is inscribed as the ancient time of a childlike and jubilantly joyful being, which withal in its quiet reminding remains a companion at every step of the human spirit in the times of its maturing in the materialities of the Subsequent Creation
It is precisely the childlikeness of a joyful inward experiencing which opens for man the connection with this ancient moment of the beginning of his being in the luminous spheres of the etherically translucent materialities at the summit of the Subsequent Creation
This time of trustful childlikeness towards the Light was a part of the beginning of the path of every human spirit, however much he may later have decided to wander along the paths of his volition ever more distant from the Light
Although someone may have descended almost to the very bottom of humanity and have transformed his original purity and the brightness of his inner being into an impenetrable tangle of base impulses of a dark volition, nevertheless there was and still is near him, through the helps of the spiritual guidance, a ray of the initial splendour of his being
The ray remains indeed very thin, but it endures and can be an impulse to awakening, so long as the judgment of God over his hitherto being does not come to him
Yet this Holy Judgment is here, and with all human spirits it will bring the moment of the deciding of their further direction
Hitherto it held that the spirit still had within him a flash of hope of resurrection and thereby a gleam of hope of the return to the spiritual home
All this becomes, however, only a squandered past if the soul upon its further paths still today chooses quite voluntarily for itself the direction which leads it ever further downward along the false, insincere, deceitful steps of impurity and baseness, or even only along the way of superficial enjoyment and of the cheapness of life
If in this direction the spirit in his volition oversteps the boundary appointed by the Creator, from beyond which there is no return, then even this last hair of hope ceases to hold
The Judgment which is coming will direct him sternly and unchangeably, just as it will all the darkened spiritual sparks which have entangled themselves too heavily by the threads of fate into the depths, out of which it is no longer possible to raise oneself upward
To be condemned and rejected by the Light
To be drawn into the gearing of the Laws of Creation, which drag the soul along the threads formed by its own volition only further from the Light and from hope
What sadder and more hopeless thing can be imagined than the picture of this happening
It is not, however, for the humanly spiritual to judge who belongs to this current and who still bears with him the promise of a possible awakening and ascent
Therefore everyone is above all to be concentrated upon his own work upon himself, so that his pure volition may become the promise of a way out of the ruins
There is not a single man who is today upon earth who has nothing upon himself and within himself which he could still change for the better and more radiant expression of his spiritual volition
Before everyone there lies no small portion of that which can be raised towards a purer fulfilment of a spiritual humanity
Of the work upon the purifying of the spiritual raiment there is much, immeasurably much, all too much
At the same time there shortens the term which may be called the most gracious term bestowed for this present earthly being, which was bestowed upon many for the great rescue of their spirit
To that being which offers with every day a multitude of moments to manifest one's inward purity in the experiencing with other men, with nature and with the whole world which surrounds man here
Whoever supposes that other men, or perhaps the world of matter itself, are to blame for his inner unrest and for the difficulties of an everyday kind, he thereby manifests only his immaturity, in which there is mirrored the refusal to experience all the moments of life with thanks to the Creator for the grace of being in this world
If the moment comes when animistic hands tear the curtain aside and show man the direction of his continuation into the realms of the beyond, then it is no longer possible to change anything of that which took place here in the gross materiality of the earthly world and which inscribed itself into the threads which will sooner or later bear witness to the real volition of man
Earthly time can be fully experienced in every moment, in a joyful attunement and in the wish of a pure ascent for all men
But who is able to maintain such an attunement within his inner being amid the experiencing of all the unevennesses which meet him upon his path of earthly being
Those who strive for it perceive it as a struggle which has no end and which, it seems, holds taut in the body like a string every nerve appointed to the vigilance of the spirit
And yet precisely this state is the most helping for the spirit of man, for it compels the setting in movement of the intuitive perception, which is the best equipment of the spirit for its further wandering, when the earthly body is laid aside and that which is of the soul in man becomes that covering which is the outermost raiment of the spirit
It is to be fully used for a resolute rousing of oneself to a courageous and joyful walking through life
By it also the knowledge of the Laws of God and of their supremely Just effects in all happening is to be enduringly spread
As at every time when sections of an earnest happening out of the Light unfold in Creation, no creature is left without the help and the Love of God
That, however, holds so long as man does not himself withdraw from these helps in superficiality and in the supposition that he has something better
The help of the Light cannot be forced upon man against his own will
The recognising and receiving of this help is, however, alas for the majority of earthmen today unattainable, for they have lost the childlikeness of their spirit needful for it, and also the sufficient purity which is just as important a condition as that childlikeness
These two conditions today separate a great part of men from the help of the Light, because they thereby lack the important key to the connecting door leading to this help
The key lies hidden precisely in the childlikeness and in the purity of their inner being
Yet perhaps the shocks which will now come, together with the way in which many existing habits in the life of men will begin suddenly to change, will bring a loosening of the soil of the spirit even in those men who are not surrounded within by the darkness in too stifling a grip
In the vibrating of the intuitive perception many a hoop of impurity and of darkness may in the end yet give way, so as to make it possible for a luminous ray to penetrate into the inner being of man
The happening into which we are just beginning to plunge and which is still at the very beginning of the great events can thus, through the awakening of compassion, be the last rescue for many men
Precisely the experiencing by men of how easy it is for the animistic now to call an earthman away from this plane of being will bring about in ever more men of intuitive perception, after the initial fear, step by step an openness towards something higher
Would that it were so
Thereby the activity of the animistic servants, who now with all their powers strive to give notice of this supremely earnest time upon earth, would not be so much lost in the thought-confusion of men, and perhaps a way would gradually be broken through to a clearer insight into why all this is happening precisely now
Every single man here upon earth who bears within him the knowledge of the higher meaning of his being and who has also received the knowledge of the Holy Word of Truth, just such a one can today be more helping than he supposes
In the world of thoughts a battle is waged between the deceiving of the dark forms of the Furies of fear and of hatred towards the Light and all the other more luminous forms of the knowing recognition of the Truth
He who is able to bring into the world of thoughts, which surrounds this earth with a high density, the brightness of Recognition and of Truthfulness, he works as a rescuer for millions who seek a way out and who would otherwise necessarily be lost in hopelessness
The mediating of such a help is prized above the earthly riches of gold and of all that men prize
It is the mediating of hope and of a way out through clear thought-forms of a genuine knowledge about Creation, about its inhabitants and above all about God, such as He really Is
There is withal not much time for those who thus far did not strive therein and had no need to advance briskly and nimbly forward in the clarifying of their thoughts about the Truth
Already we are plunging into the great happening, which demands of everyone who has the knowledge that he have all within him made luminous and set in order with the consistency and the clarity of a mature spirit
Now there comes a happening which will bring for many a one a tearing aside of the curtain in his being
The high animistic servants have everything prepared for it and now await only the stroke of the bell of God announcing the next intensifying degree of the liberating advance of the Light in the Subsequent Creation
