Maintaining the Cycle of Receiving and Giving

Receiving and giving are two parts, inseparable from each other, of the great flowing of life in the work of Creation

Together they form the whole of the harmonious living together of all the inhabitants of God's work of Creation

And the whole can swing in creative development precisely and only on the condition that the balance between both parts is carefully maintained

Receiving and giving therefore always need to be in balance

With man, as a spiritual inhabitant of the work of Creation, this demands the unceasing exertion of the highest liveliness in intuitive perception

Each one is continually led to unfold himself in the whole perceiving of all that is to be brought by himself into the wholeness of the blessed life

In every single day there is a great number of moments in which it is possible and necessary to give in kindness, but also to receive rightly

It will never cease, for it is a part of life

In it there lies an invisible pressure towards a constant mobility in perceiving

It is nothing for comfortable idlers

But whoever rightly makes his own, through his intuitive perceiving, the streaming of the blessed forces, he will recognize with relief that in reality it is not so difficult, indeed that in it there rests for him an immeasurably great blessing

The Wisdom of God demands of the inhabitants of the work of Creation nothing unnatural, for which their forces would not suffice

In the end therefore every creature may experience with joy how much it brings, above all to himself, of the recognition of his own worth, if he ranges himself into the flowing stream of giving and receiving

The balance in receiving and giving is always only an incentive towards the ennobling and the unfolding of the inner faculties which every man carries within himself

Alas, on Earth very little work is done upon this kind of precious qualities of the spirit

However little it may seem so at first glance, the majority of people have lost in their lives the healthy ability to maintain the mentioned balance in receiving and giving

Very many people have shaped their receptivity only for receiving

They concentrate too much only upon obtaining what they long for, without recognizing at the same time whether it also benefits the whole

Therefore the ability of pure and free giving falters in them, for their aim is to see all that which they could and, according to their reasoning, also ought to have

Selfishness has grown rank in them, and an oversensitivity to the impression that if something is lacking to them they are being shortchanged in something as compared with others

Thereby the awareness has vanished from them that they themselves must first be able to give in order to experience the fulfilment of life

Other people, on the other hand, have indeed succeeded in making giving their own and they feel a reason for joy when they themselves may be the ones giving to their fellow men, but they bear an ingrained restriction in their own receiving, because they perceive it as a sign of their own weakness if in some way they themselves were to be the ones presented with gifts

In their closedness towards receiving they then deceptively regard themselves as strong

They therefore live in the conviction that they do not need anything naturally given, and subconsciously they take every gift as a hidden obligation towards the one who bestows it upon them

When they were children it was instilled into them that it is not right to possess something which a man has not gained directly by his own strength in the daily struggle and effort

It was indeed well meant by the educators, but it brought about the unfolding of a wrong understanding of the principle of how the great harmony works in the work of Creation

Their intellect taught them here on Earth to see behind everything more or less only a bargain

We have here, then, people who have not the slightest inhibition about receiving, but who have grown weak in their will to be givers, and beside them we have then such people who are indeed able to give, but who bear within themselves inhibitions and a feeling of weakness when something is granted to them themselves

There are thus two poles between which people waver to and fro

Either they are deflected to the one side, which leads them to selfishness, or to the other side, where they cannot receive of the gifts of God which come to them in the work of Creation

Both are a wrongly attuned understanding of the great Love of God working in the work of Creation

At the moment when in the life of a man there comes a departure from the purely flowing balance, tension necessarily arises in the Laws of Creation

If the tension continues, or even grows over a long time, then convulsions of the whole come about

The people living on Earth have already been permitted to taste this many times

For whole millennia periods of blessing and periods of misery have been experienced again and again by the generations from time immemorial

Yet in it people have not learned to recognize the lawfulness contained therein

They have not recognized the balance between receiving and giving which needs to be permanently maintained

Never was the great recognition attained which is the condition of a lasting flowing in harmony

This recognition is closely bound up with the meaning of human existence in Creation

It therefore concerns closely the spiritual nature of man

Man is not only an earthly body, and therefore he urgently needs to grasp the principle of the balance in receiving and giving on the plane of his spiritual task in the work of Creation

The condition is the occupation with the true task of the human spirit, which is to learn to swing in complete harmony with the other streams in Creation, to which belong the Divine, the primordially spiritual, the spiritual and also the animistic flowing of the forces

These forces stream permanently through Creation as supporting, life-giving currents, in which blessing is to be found, or also destruction, exactly according to the sense in which they are recognized, received and used

Therefore we may speak of a high spiritual art in the observing of the Law of giving and taking

Alas, the majority have not grown up to this degree

Only on account of this we are also today approaching a complete collapse of society

It is precisely for the reason that mankind stands for a long time in opposition to the healthy fulfilling and maintaining of the great Law of giving and taking on all the levels which connect it with the whole of the work of Creation

At first glance it appears that the greatest number of people are such as want only to take

They are held to be the originators of all the imbalance, of the contradictions of society, of the convulsions and collapses of whole nations

No one, however, occupies himself with the fact that the whole is brought out of balance also by those people who cannot receive

They, however, are the same cause of the imbalance and of the misery which repeats itself

And, strange to say, there is truly a great number of those who burden their path with the assumption that they do not need to be presented with gifts out of the blessing of God, because their mind rejects such a thing

They want to stand each for himself, and in no case do they wish to be indebted to God for His gifts

Thus their intellect has taught them, because the intellect rejects anything higher than human consciousness

Therefore it rejects the Love of God, which it holds to be binding

Intellectual people do so with great force in the rejection of anything higher, without becoming aware that they thereby wilfully set themselves as an obstacle into the flowing of the great cycle

The rejection of God's blessing is just as harmful as the insatiable craving for a life of ease, for the easy gaining of all the enjoyments and things that offer themselves

It is a lack of understanding of the great flowing of the forces in the work of Creation

Man, as a human-spiritual species, cannot wrest himself out of the mentioned Harmony, out of whose womb he came to his very first consciousness in the moment of the awakening of the spiritual spark which is the foundation of his nature

Through the awakening he became a spiritual inhabitant, and out of this a thousandfold blessing flows to him, but at the same time also a certain kind of service arising out of his species

And this service consists, among other things, in that in the planes of the Subsequent Creation he is to be the mediator of the high spiritual forces which he may draw, for all the other creatures who are around him

He is to be the mediator of the glorious kind of streaming of the Power out of the Grail, which from a certain degree of maturity he is bound for himself to recognize and to receive, in order to pass it on further to all the animistic which is connected with the materialities here

But men have closed themselves and thereby wilfully refused to be the mediators of the high forces drawn from the Grail, although they should already have been ripe for it, and thereby ready for this kind of service

Long ago earthly mankind should have stood purely and clearly in the drawing of the high spiritual forces, which it should have passed on further and also transformed for the bliss of other creatures

The world of nature has in this, on account of man, come to a standstill in the development which was after all to continue in the coming of new species of plants and animals

Also in the faculties of the more developed animal souls the unfolding of a higher co-operation with men was to come, precisely through the transforming of the spiritual forces by man towards the animistic

The reason for this closing became the many distortions to which men succumb

The distortions lead to the most varied forms of deviation

To these belongs the complete closing of oneself in one's consciousness through the opinion that nothing other than the matter of gross materiality is real

Thus reason the materialists

Beside them there are then the religiously deviated people, who on the contrary reject everything material as something that would defile them

And here again is the pitfall of the many who indeed long for the Light, but who do not wish to live and to work simply and naturally, for they regard themselves as exceptional

These people in their turn refuse to receive the gifts of life from the heights of Creation, having formed about themselves the impression that they must be deprived of such a thing as a fully valid and blessed life in the gross material world

They do so in order to show their supposed spiritual greatness, since for that reason they must go here on Earth the way of suffering and renunciation

In the end they refuse absolutely all the small and great gifts which in the naturalness of being are offered to them through the helps of the Light, in the expectation that they will finally be glorified by the Grace of God only on account of how greatly they suffered precisely in the refusal of all the gifts

In their mental attitude they regard themselves as immeasurably valuable or even as holy if they suffer for the highest by denying themselves many gifts which would otherwise come to them just as to other people

They think that they are exceptional if they suffer as those who have sacrificed themselves to God by refusing everything that is less than the consecration of their ascension into Paradise, of which they are convinced that it already belongs to them in advance

They are often entirely convinced that for this sacrifice of theirs an extraordinary glorification will come to them when one day they pass over into the beyond

Such a thing, however, can never find appreciation in the Laws of God, in which after all support and joy are prepared for everyone throughout his whole path of spiritual development

The Creator does not wish that anyone should suffer for His Love

It is only a human lack of understanding of the conditions of life on Earth when men reject something of the naturalness which is granted to them just as to all others

On the contrary, they thereby make for themselves only new obstacles in the threads of fate, in which only a just retribution must come to them for having despised the gifts of God which came to them in life, and certainly not only once

Man always receives, through the radiations of the universe, several opportunities to accept the gifts which draw near to him through the weaving of the Alphar

If he does not make use of them, then he cannot regard himself as valuable, but it is solely and only a sign of his lazy dullness in intuitive perceiving

If a man does not seize the opportunities which flow to him and does not accept the gifts which visit him in the form of many helps, then he relegates himself to the role of a sacrifice which, however, no one asks of him

He then stands as an obstacle to the great, glorious cycle of giving and taking, and through his attunement he excludes himself from the streaming of the forces

In the end such people cripple themselves even in rejoicing over those truly high gifts which come through the pure experiencing of such happenings as the influx of the Power of God into Creation at the time of the Festival of the Outpouring of the Power of the Holy Spirit

The bitterness within does not allow such people to open themselves rightly and to receive

Yet no man is deprived by the Grace-filled Bounty of God of the experiencing of the influx of the refreshing forces which flow through the work of Creation in the great time of the Outpouring of the Power of the Holy Spirit

Through this Power there comes to man the opportunity for the greatest changes, if he is ready to bring them about

In this time many strengthening spiritual currents come to him

Such a thing must not be neglected, otherwise man suffers only the harm which he causes himself

In the case of mankind there then grows an all-disrupting disharmony which can bring the tension to the state of a total collapse

The cause is the hindering by mankind of the necessary cycle, in which the human spirit as the original species is to bring through its attunement a great strengthening for the animistic that works in the world of nature on Earth

We may say to this that whoever does not open himself in his inner being at the time of the Festival of the Holy Dove in the Grail causes, from the standpoint of the Laws of Creation, harm to himself and to the rest of life in the Subsequent Creation, for he does not fulfil his task as a spiritual mediator

He thereby proves that he cannot receive the gifts in Creation and thus necessarily acts as a brake upon the great cycle of the enlivening radiation

His task, which from the beginning is entrusted to him among other things for the replenishing of the forces of a high spiritual kind in the materialities, is thereby trampled upon, and man thereby only marks himself as one who fails in one part of his task in Creation

This failure in not receiving he can fully replace by nothing else

Even if he then strives in the gross material world for the greatest works, from the standpoint of the Laws of Creation he still bears the mark of one who repeatedly fails

And if further gifts which could have come to him then do not reach him, he cannot blame anyone else for his shortcomings and sufferings, no one other than himself

He himself is the greatest obstacle which stands between him and the influx of all the great and small gifts

He who is not able through his own endeavour to receive the most natural bestowal of the Love of God and of Justice in the happening of the outpouring of the Power of the Holy Spirit in the Grail is not yet able to ascend to the necessary degree of maturity, where the complete connection with the all-penetrating Power of God is to be found

Participation in the high happenings which are fulfilled in the Grail requires of man inner purity and also a simple rejoicing at the possibility of being permitted to be a conscious partaker in such a thing

A partaker precisely because the radiation received into the inner being of man is to be given further as the most glorious fulfilment of the Law of receiving and giving

It is a Holy Law which pulsates therein with the highest liveliness that accompanies the Power of God through Creation

And precisely for this reason the inner being is to be set freely and openly, so that with the purely shining brightness of the spiritual spark the Light may flow into Creation through man

It is something great which many people do not yet know, and only very few know anything about it, and a still smaller number of people also do it thus in the simplest form of their mission

But soon this is to change

The time will come when here on Earth too people will look out for the moment of the highest filling of the Grail with the Love of God and with the all-renewing Power

This time is not far off, however little seems to indicate it today

Only the genuine pioneering endeavour of the few presses forward, so that in it forms may be shaped which will finally become an inseparable part of the life of men on Earth in the new time

It is a pressing forward through a dense mass of thoughts which set themselves against everything spiritual

But thereby it is at the same time the most precious thing which the human spirit can fulfil here on Earth as a part of the expression of his service to the Light

A fully valid participation in the highest happening in the work of Creation

That is the sign of a high spiritual degree, which may be called the maturity of a spirit, for whom the gate into the spiritual home is thereby opened

It has, however, the condition of the pure naturalness of experiencing in a free and unhindered inner opening of oneself

Everything is to be entirely removed from all overwroughtness, which always leads to deviation and causes harm to everything healthy

Thus here on Earth too the experiencing of the participation in the Festival of the Grail is to be first of all an inner attunement in man

Only in connection with this fervent conscious attunement is all the outward earthly to follow, which is also to be joyfully received, for it is connected with the work of the weavers of the threads of fate, who thereby mediate gifts of the most natural kind

And in this all people still have much to learn

Today naturalness is lacking in almost everything spiritual

This is because people have already removed themselves so far from genuine spiritual experiencing that they do not know how it is to be expressed outwardly in the earthly world

Therefore at the beginning it is necessary to look with forbearance upon the many mistakes which will still be made in it

In the participation in this highest happening too there are many degrees of diversity in the way the receiving of the Power can be experienced

Before us lies a great time of living learning about what is truly natural, what is pure and what really carries the inner being of man upwards to the luminous connections with the happenings above the material planes of the Subsequent Creation

But despite much stumbling in it, this time will be beautiful above all in that an ever greater number of people will truly strive to bring their purest volition into the attunement of receiving the forces from the Grail

That is also what is valued and rewarded from the Light

The full opening of the human spirit to the flowing of the Power out of the Grail is the condition of fulfilment

The yearly recurring day of Whitsuntide is therefore the most precious point in the existence of mankind on Earth

It can therefore no longer be squandered in superficiality or in dull ignorance

Every omission of the inner opening in the receiving of the high Power streaming through Creation is a non-fulfilment of the task of the human spirit in the Subsequent Creation

This non-fulfilment of the exalted task which in this belongs to the human spirit will become the experiencing of a divined futility

Through the drawing of the Power by man the Subsequent worlds of materiality can and shall be connected with the other parts of God's work of Creation

The time is here for the complete joining of all the parts of the glorious work of the Love of God

A new knowledge is coming which will make the day of Whitsuntide the fundamental starting point of all the other working of men on Earth

The Festival of the Outpouring of the Power of the Holy Spirit will therefore become the first day in the flowing of the whole cycle of the year on Earth

People are to prepare themselves for this in their inner being, so that in the turn of the changes of the new development they may rightly recognize it and accept it as a part of their perceiving of earthly life

Pure and childlike simple recognition will become for them the most precious thing in the learning of the receiving of the Love of God in Creation

Everything else will then go much better and more easily if people learn to receive rightly this kind of Power out of the Divine

It will be an inseparable part of the approaching spiritual enlightenment and of the rebirth of all life on Earth

The naturalness of life will then take on the purest forms which were always meant to be here as a self-acting part of human working

Everything will be ennobled already through the fact that the cycle of receiving and giving will be rightly heeded and maintained on all the planes which human working reaches

It is joyful to know that this time is swiftly drawing near
