Liberation From the Tightened Noose

Every one of men should now do everything so as at last to attain release from the noose of ever newly linked atonements arising out of repeated mistakes and transgressions
This step lies solely in the hands of man himself
He needs to accomplish it himself, through his own effort
No one else can carry out the work of whitening the covering of the soul, and thereby the liberation of the inner spiritual essence from the burden of the material cycle, but the individual person himself for himself
It is precisely the spiritual inner being that needs, in the highest intuitive feeling, to grasp that unworthiness of its long entanglement in matter
The surging up of the inner will towards the Light is to glow through all the coverings unto complete purification
The garment of the soul is to be penetrated by the power of the radiant spiritual flame so mightily that all fetters holding the spirit in the materialities of the Subsequent Creation fall away and make possible for him the return to the spiritual home
That is the true meaning of the being of man, and it is also the most sacred of all the stages of development on the path of the spiritual spark towards maturity
Liberation from the influence of the reciprocal actions of the threads of fate, which demand atonement in the materialities
That is the most desirable thing which man is to attain in this earthly life, when it is made possible for him to lay aside all that is connected with gross material deeds
He can free himself from the threads that stretch out of the past into the density of earthly existence here
To this the whole strength of the spirit should be devoted, all the abilities of his intuitive perceiving should be used
That is the most desirable thing which man is to attain in this earthly life, when it is made possible for him to lay aside all that is connected with gross material deeds
Everything else comes only after this liberation
Every one of men should therefore live thereby with full consciousness in the striving for the volition of all-embracing good, which is the condition for liberation
If he attains this, then automatically the state of his purification will bear witness of him that he has significantly advanced in maturity
It will confirm that as a human-spiritual inhabitant of Creation he has already become entirely perfect, or has at least come very near to the state of complete perfection
Inwardly he will thereby advance high upwards
And at that moment there open the gates that make it possible for him to draw near to the places of blissful Light, for whose nearness the spiritual inner being of man longs from the first flash of childlike self-consciousness
The all-pervading splendour and the eternal harmony of being will become for him an attainable state of lasting activity
It hovers as a promise of God above all who have not cast away their own humanity
Whoever strives towards the good bears preserved within himself this promise of the attainment of the Light
Therefore everything that keeps the spirit away from the bliss of the home is to become secondary
The only thing which is then further to work is the attracting power of the spiritual planes, which act irresistibly upon the human spirit as the homogeneously most noble and upward-drawing magnetism in Creation
This is because in the spiritual planes there is the lasting, living fullness of being, in which the consciousness of self unites with the most fervent form of the glorification of God
The spiritual spark in man longs for this state, for it came to its awakening in the nearness of the spiritual spheres
Therefore men on Earth should also devote to this kind of blissful being far more inner and outer powers than is the case today
The mind of man should constantly hold to the awareness of the path upwards to the Light
Not in order that this should lead to a selfish preoccupation with himself, but solely and only because such a person thinks of his fellow-men with the wish that they too may one day enter the spiritual home and become filled with happiness
Thinking of others in the endeavour to help them and to strengthen them on their path is a part of man's own ascent
With this attunement he is to make his own the way of approaching all the moments experienced with other people
The radiance of this all-embracing wish for good should penetrate his whole being and glow within him as a strong light towards everything that comes to him in the threads out of the past, so that he may rightly experience it and thereby free himself for ever from the necessity of any further repetition of earlier errors and mistakes
At the same time, so that this state may also be a protection against his ever again giving cause for the necessity of atoning for newly forming transgressions
That is the highest goal of the human spirit, which is to be attained in the cycle of all the repeated incarnations into gross material coverings
It should be the most important thing of which men speak among one another
It should be the object of very frequent reflection by people
This knowledge should resound in all earnestly meant counsels for life
It should be a strengthening support to everyone who longs to come to terms with his earlier paths of development, so that he may at last settle all his past transgressions by being permitted to lay aside all errors and mistakes
On Earth, however, almost nothing more precise is known of this today
There is lacking a clear outlook as well as a mature knowledge of the direction in which the path of the individual and the development of human society on Earth are to proceed
Earthly life is today predominantly looked upon as a place of unbounded arbitrariness
The lamentable state of the present is the ignorance of the majority of mankind in the most important questions of life
It has grown into a state of the realisation of the most glaring confusions, in which human freedom and liberty are sought
It has become a part of the clamour of the masses, whereby only thousands of new threads are being linked, without individual people knowing anything more precise about it
The cycle of the returning threads thereby becomes ever denser for the whole of mankind
In the acceleration of the happening the space for a freer breath grows smaller
It goes to the degree where the cycle of the threads finally closes wholly about man and oppresses him, so that in the end he arrives at a state of hopelessness, of resignation
The noose tightens and stifles his capacity, in a brightened awareness, to be inspired for the further path of his spiritual development
Many people perceive the accelerated return of the threads of fate and wish with all their strength to defend themselves
They long to resist this growing constriction, which in its long-continued pressing awakens hopelessness
They do it, however, in the least right ways
Often the endeavour to free oneself from the constantly returning difficulties and pressure within man is bound up with such conclusions of thought that in his desperate effort he wishes to blunt every receptivity for the recognition of anything new which might bring a way out
It resembles the mediaeval torment of despairing souls which, in the awareness of their own weakness and thereby of the impossibility of changing anything in the course of things, supposed that by self-injury and self-punishment they would awaken compassion in God, and that in the end their fate would perhaps after all become a little more favourable to them
They supposed that by self-flagellation they would attain heavenly compassion
In those times there were formed the notions of a vale of tears through which earthly people must pass on Earth
The despair in it was intensified by the heavy thought-form that it cannot be changed and that thus it is right
Nothing remained but suffering
The bodily self-torment of the past has changed into the forms of today, leading to a wholly dulled surrender to the flow of life
In the end there remains in such people, instead of the will to ascent, only emptiness
The emptied place, which might at least once serve for an earnest occupation with the path to the Light, is then replaced by an attachment to pastimes, which then for a certain time, or not seldom for a whole earthly life, become a kind of refuge
People try to find for themselves their small place in the earthly world, into which they then endeavour to plunge entirely, and thereby to forget everything that, through its pressing upon their conscience, that is, through the call of the inner voice of the spirit to a courageous change of themselves, has become wholly uncomfortable
For this empty place the intellect has brought a filling in the form of the experiencing of the most varied pastimes
Earthly pastimes have in the last hundred years become so widespread that they may be called a modern opium for the spirit
It is thereby in truth a still deeper immersion into the radiation of gross matter than has ever befallen people before
Strikingly ominous sound the words when people say that some pastime, to which they have begun to devote themselves earthly and passionately, has entirely “swallowed them up”
And alas it is so
The power that rests in the spiritual inner being is squandered upon trifles and picturesque sensations, out of which ever new pastimes of people are formed
Yet at that moment a struggle for the further development of the soul is taking place within man, without anything being observed from without
Through their attachment to something material people wish to feel themselves anchored in life, they wish to find their fulfilment through a connection with matter, and precisely thereby their spiritual spark, which longs to be unfolded, must suffer
By plunging into his pastimes man apparently fills the menacing gap and emptiness in earthly life
But that can never be the right way
It is precisely all that is secondary which only leads further away from the direction that leads to the true way out and to liberation
Everything that in this respect is connected with matter in the form of pastimes is secondary and should never grow into a state of magnitude that overshadows the spiritual goal
Today we behold all around how in the end this becomes for the greatest part of men an even greater cause of their entanglement in matter
That which was to be laid aside, in which the spirit ascending upwards is to free itself, and in which earthly man was to become ruler, so as to keep a healthy distance from all things of minor importance, is precisely today the ever more tightly drawing noose for billions of souls
Of pastimes there is on Earth a great multitude, and they are found in every field of human activity
No battle is to be waged with something that has already spread and taken possession of the world of men
Much can be raised higher, and thereby the right will separate itself automatically from the wrong
The pastimes are only to be subjected by man to the test of ennobling in the sense of their elevation to a higher meaning, and thereby moved towards a true use for the spiritual recognition of the Laws of Creation
If any pastime is in this direction ennobled in the honest effort of man, then sooner or later he comes, figuratively speaking, to a parting of the ways
At this parting of the ways either the original pastime is in the ennobling so far elevated that it is transformed into something truly of high benefit and full of meaning from the standpoint of man's spiritual ascent, or in the other case the pastime quickly loses its meaning for him and passes away
In the following of the lawful development of Creation only these two ways can ever be used
In the first case the way of ennobling, that is, the way of elevating everything to a higher, meaningful level, and in the second case there is revealed rather only emptiness, which loses its imagined value and must necessarily pass away
Every single person can lay the prospect of these two ways upon all his earthly pastimes and interests
The answer will come to him more quickly than he would expect
Pastimes, like absolutely everything that offers itself to man on Earth, can be elevated and ennobled, if this is possible
If man can ennoble matter by breathing into it a higher meaning and goal, then precisely some pastimes too will move higher and, in connection with the Light, will gradually change their whole content
If, however, it is not possible to elevate some pastime in the material, then this pastime will quickly begin to lack its meaning and will vanish
It will literally disappear from the face of the Earth
All this lies within the powers of the human spirit, to subject to the simple test of ennobling all his pastimes which he has come to love in this space of gross materiality
If he succeeds in this, then in this or that pastime there will gradually be able to be reflected more of the pure and simple glorification of the Creator
Thereby everything that can be will be elevated on Earth to a higher meaning of life
And then everyone will clearly see that in the ennobling of everything which his mind and also his gross material hands touch, it gains for itself a quite different expression and form
Much can thus be transformed towards a higher meaning, so that it may help towards the elevation to the Light
One may say that it is reborn into the new
And together with this everyone who wishes to take part in it will then be able in the most natural way to lay aside his own weaknesses and basenesses, until the spiritual home in the blissful spheres of Primordial Creation becomes for him the highest goal
Through the striving to elevate all earthly forms there will be impressed into the manner of thinking and acting of people the longing for their own ennobling
And thereby the noose winding tightly about him, which held him down for so long, will be able to begin to loosen around man, for already in his own striving to elevate all his pastimes he will find within himself the strength for his own liberation from the material space
The inner strengthening of the spirit will call forth happenings which will enter his life along newly woven threads of fate, in order to release him lastingly from the density of the material surroundings
High ideas in the inner being will bear the spirit ever higher and higher, until he recognises that the most precious experience for him is the recognition and understanding of the All-Wisdom of God, which makes it possible for him, within his human abilities, to develop upwards to the Light
That which threatened him as a growing chain riveting him to the materialities will begin to loosen as, through his disposition of the all-embracing volition of good, he puts an end to the further continuation of the necessary atonement of transgressions
Hand in hand with the fervent volition of all-embracing good there will then come ennobling and ascent
In the end there will remain in him but one single great pastime, and that is the joyful and at the same time reverent glorification of the Creator in the recognition of His loving bestowal of Creation upon all inhabitants who may find in it a place for their being
Thereby the irradiated human spirit will again draw near to the living driving power which at the beginning brought him to his awakening to consciousness
He will be borne upwards by this power, for through the laying aside of everything past no further bond with the materialities of the Subsequent Creation will arise for him
Although he will be connected with the earthly body, in which it is given to him here on Earth to experience and to work for a certain time of incarnation, he will always act so as not to be for a single moment a disturber of the great harmony which pervades the whole space of Creation
He will become a knower of his own intuitive perceptions and of the intuitive perceptions of other people, and in this art he will always be able to act so as to be a strengthener of all happening which may contain within itself only the blessing of the Laws of God
His life will become a flowing in these Laws, with the use of all the helps that work within them
Thereby he will swing himself high above everything base, for in his inner being there will blaze only the will towards the Light, united with the abilities of his mature spirit
Such a person will then be a natural founder and maintainer of harmony everywhere he sets foot
And precisely this will become the foundation for the forming of the most natural unions of the Circles of the Peaceful in the near future
The Circles of the Peaceful will come to this Earth without delay and with certainty
Everything for it is already now prepared, and in the hands of the weavers there are many threads which are drawing near to individual people in whom the purest longing for the Light blazes
There comes the time when every person will begin to occupy himself far more vividly with all that he is to do in order to free himself from the hitherto cycle of the necessary atonement of his transgressions and mistakes
It is that time of the great spiritual enlightenment
No other way leads further into the future of the approaching development of the happening
