The gross material universe in which it is given us to live for a certain time is called HERMETIS in the animistic planes of the High servants of Valhalla

Hermetis – the universe – the cosmos

The universe, unencompassable for our earthly human eye, is in reality for Valhalla only one of several degrees of their many-layered forming

The universe here is also, in the foundation of its kind, the same as those universes which are to be found in the other world-communities of Subsequent Creation

It is a matter of a living creative radiation which descended even into the places of the nothingness that endured before it, where it immersed itself and, like a precipitate formed by cooling, then settled as that degree of gross materiality which is known to us

And precisely on account of its inner creative power, which is contained within it, this degree, which is above all the result of the direct working of the animistic servants Hathmes and Hermetes, is called hermetis

Hermetis, because it reflects within itself the whole luminous happening of the outpouring of the animistic working in the direction where there was nothing, where there was neither space nor time

Seen thus, we are permitted to live here on Earth in one part of Subsequent Creation only because it was first formed by creative animistic hands as the expression of a lofty and faithful service to the Father of all

It was precisely out of their hands that life was permitted to come into the places of the previous lightless void, life which in its anchoring could then unfold and glow through further towards ever higher forms

The sound of the term hermetis in Valhalla means – “Formed out of the Will of God

If therefore the word hermetis is uttered in the halls of Valhalla, it is at once evident to all there that the matter concerns something connected with the densest of all the precipitates of the materialities in one of the seven world-parts

As the grossest degree of materiality, hermetis is to be found in all the world-parts, where it makes possible a temporary existence for all the human spirits sojourning there upon the path of their development towards the attaining of perfection in their spiritual kind

In the parts that lie nearer to the starting-point of the Light, this gross material precipitate too is always more permeable to the Light and is thereby itself more luminous

In the parts that are more remote from the Light, however, that gross materiality is again also denser and more ponderous, less permeable to all that is finer and lighter, such as the ethereal, the animistic and also the spiritual

According to which world-part is concerned, the kind of gross materiality is thus each time partly different in its constitution, which demands, among other things, also another approach in the work of the animistic, and therefore the servants of Valhalla always need an addition to the term hermetis itself, saying in which world-part the gross materiality is to be found

Thus besides the hermetis of Ephesus here, we have also the hermetis in the world-part Smyrna, the hermetis in Thyatira, the hermetis of Philadelphia, the hermetis of Laodicea, the hermetis of Pergamos and the hermetis in the world-part Sardis

Each of these world-parts in the work of Subsequent Creation passed through the same development and upbuilding and therefore has a similar foundation

Nevertheless these world-communities differ, and precisely in this, that they always have a certain diversity which lies in the substance of the materialities that serve in them as the foundation for life

This is given by the place where these world-parts are situated and also by the mission of the particular part, in that each by its kind attracts other spiritual sparks for development, which then sink into the finest nebulae at the summit of that part which by its kind has shown itself to be ideal for the development of that particular spiritual spark

With this there is bound up much further happening, always quite unique, in the forming and shaping of the forms of life there and also of their perception of space and of time

There are world-parts which, although they provide development for human spirit germs that are in the foundation the same, nevertheless have within them so much that is different that earthly men would not be able to grasp exactly the manner and the content of the life of the inhabitants there

This concerns above all the world-parts circling much higher or much lower than is the case with Ephesus, which serves as a temporary refuge for yet another kind of spiritual sparks

These differences, however, it is not needful to describe more closely here now, for it is not strictly indispensable for the development of the human spirits here in the materialities of Ephesus

Let us therefore hold to the knowledge of that which belongs to the happening in the world-part Ephesus, which as our temporary home is the most comprehensible for us, and which even so still conceals so many secrets from the knowledge of the human spirit

Much of these hitherto veiled prospects could have been known to mankind even now, had it proceeded in the right direction and had the connection with the spiritual and with the animistic working been more living and more inward than is the case today

Indeed something more of this knowledge already dwelt here for a time, but through the narrowness and superficiality of men it was soon lost again

In part it was also taken away at the command of Valhalla, as happened in the case of the consequences of the spiritual pride and arrogance of the inhabitants of Atlantis, when at its destruction and submergence all the pictures bringing the connection with the higher knowledge were torn down and cast down into the narrow surroundings of the Earth

Thereby there was lost, among other things, also the great knowledge of the Rizuns, the great giants, and of their abilities in the work with whole material parts of the Earth

The knowledge, however, can still come again gradually, so as to become a natural part of human awareness on Earth

Such a thing, however, is conditioned upon a complete rebirth of mankind in its inner liveliness and spiritual awakening

Let us therefore take as a foundation at least this, that for the High animistic servants the term hermetis in Ephesus is intelligible in exactly the same way as when the term universe or cosmos is uttered by men here on Earth

If the term universe is uttered by men anywhere on Earth, the majority at once know, or at least sense, that the matter concerns that vast space with its many stars and planets, moons, comets, wandering bodies and much else besides, which is only in part caught by men with their gross material instruments of observation

And just so, at the sounding of the term hermetis in Ephesus, all the High animistic servants in Valhalla, and also the others who have to do with it, know at once where this place is situated and what is asked of them to do for this part of the materialities, which lies always in the centre of the particular world-part, like a dense kernel within the more translucent pericarp of the ethereal worlds

From time to time the planes of the materialities are also called gardens by some of the High animistic servants

In this view there is then attached to hermetis, to this gross degree of materiality, the designation “the middle garden”, or sometimes also “the garden situated in the centre of Ephesus”

It is therefore that garden which lies between the upper – more luminous – and the lower – more twilight-veiled – garden, which, however, are formed only out of ethereal substance and not out of gross material matter

All this is new knowledge which is to become for earthly mankind at least the starting foundation needful for its new vibrating in accord with the animistic powers that are contained in everything around us

If men wish to seek the connection with the higher planes of the work of Creation, they must also draw near precisely by making their own, at least in part, the language which is spoken in those planes

If they wish to call upwards for help and for co-operation with the servants of Valhalla, they must first learn their language

It is surely the same as with the lands and the languages of the nations on Earth

If anyone wishes to make himself understood in a foreign land, he must learn at least a foundation of words in the language of that land and endeavour to use them in order to come to know the life and the customs there

It is strange that in the world among men this is grasped and accepted as self-evident and no one expects anything else, but in the case of making one's own the manner of speaking with the places situated high above this world no one considers it otherwise than that all the inhabitants there will, as something self-evident, use the language of little earthly men

That is, precisely that language which through the influence of the intellectual sinking downwards is so grievously distorted in the comprehension of all its terms

There lies hidden in this a kind of arrogance of this world of men here

As earthly men we thereby only prove to all the rest of life in Creation that we ourselves regard ourselves as the centre of all life in the divine work of Creation and thus that we count as something more among the other creatures

This attitude is surely also clearly reflected in man's relation to the whole world of nature here on Earth

Mankind does not for its part seek a good will towards co-operation, but is driven by the pride of its intellect ever more only towards the ruling over all the rest of life in nature on Earth

But this is a great error out of which we shall yet have to step gradually, like one who has long been dreaming and is suddenly and roughly awakened into the real circumstances of the present

Men still suppose that they know something and understand it, although in most of the important matters their knowledge stands almost always only upon the very surface

It is precisely earthly science which shows itself in this as standing furthest outside real knowledge

It is the same as if science wished to assert that an ocean which on its surface is frozen over with ice is nothing but ice everywhere further down as well and that nothing else is in it

And this only because up to a certain time no one had devised a way to penetrate beneath the layer of thick ice, beneath which manifold sea life lies hidden

It is only an example, but we can proceed from it for every measuring of the manner of today's science on Earth

In almost all fields we have here, thanks to science, only the most superficial findings about the world around us, which is so many-layered

Let us look at what merely superficial knowledge of the work of Creation men on Earth possess hitherto

How little of all this is known to men is testified already by their very approach to that which is nearest around them, that is, to the material world here on Earth and to the life pulsing about them here, which is generally called nature

Nature, the world of nature and the life to be found in it appear to many a one as a familiar and therefore comprehensible concept

But nature, which is born out of the substance of matter, counts for far more than men suspect

Not even the substance of the coarsest rocks of matter is dead, as today's science thinks of it

In it lie a thousand secrets which men have only not yet recognised

In all its parts there work living powers which bear within them something of the animistic kind itself

Even the smallest pebble, just as a huge mass of a mountain, is subject to the same law of gravitation and to all the other powers working upon them and within them

In everything there is so much power and energy of spiritual and of animistic origin, and man has not the slightest inkling of it

Through nature, just as through the whole gross material universe, there stream powers which in their beneficence quicken and strengthen all the particles to be found within it

Nature is therefore not only the degree here of the visible material expression of life, independent in its pulsing of man, but it is the place of the interpenetration of the animistic out of the invisible streaming from above into actual forms

That which for us earthly men is nature here, or life of the natural kind, is in reality the outermost spur of all the radiations descending from the places of the eternally seething powers beneath Valhalla

Matter is a precipitate of the radiation which descends from a place lying yet a little lower than those oceans of life in the gardens of Asgard which were already mentioned before

Those who have rightly read the individual lectures about the High animistic servants of Valhalla already know with a certain assurance where the gardens of Asgard are situated and how much riches are to be found in them precisely for all the planes of the material worlds, which are formed from there and also quickened throughout the whole time of their duration

The gardens of Asgard are the primordial cradle of all the forms of life which, in the most varied forms and coverings, fill the spaces of the ethereal spheres and of the gross material universe, and which on account of its admirable will to life is generally named by men nature, or the world of nature

All of this comes precisely out of the immeasurable oceans of life in the individual planes of the gardens of Asgard, and in its joyful enthusiasm to serve it forms in nature a life that works wisely and thereby serves Valhalla, the Grail and the Creator

Thus out of that lowest-lying degree of these planes in Asgard there springs the kind of primordial substance of matter, which is formed in a place that we may call the animistically creative and sacredly seething vessel, in which glowing spiritual particles are clothed with an animistic cloak so that then, rolling into the far distances, they may sink much further down, where in obedience to the Laws of Creation, under the hands of the servants subordinate to the High former of the materialities from Valhalla, Hermetes, they were shaped into the actual substance of the universe

The streaming currents of particles out of this silvery gleaming circular vessel, which is in reality so vast that in its volume it would with ease take into itself all the seven world-parts of the materialities lying beneath it, bear within them the seeds and the germs for everything that is called the substance of matter

The phrase “seething vessel” is no accident here, for this picture is characteristic above all of the living happening which takes place unceasingly in these places, since from there new particles of the basic ethereal kind spurt forth continually in streams, which serve as the starting degree for all the further upbuilding of the planes of the materialities

It is precisely here, to these places, that there also return the particles once already joined, which for a certain time served as building parts far down in the materialities and which through the long duration of their service already needed the necessary fructification by a new spiritual inflowing in places nearer to the Light, which in that place of Asgard they always assuredly receive

For the narrow bounds of earthly thinking it is barely conceivable what powers and what proportions of gigantic magnitude are described here

It is therefore for each individual reader that at least a little of this wondrously glowing place, radiating the most varied radiance into the far distances, may show itself before his inner sight

The earthly concepts here, however, are insufficient for the right describing of all that takes place in that place, and they will always lead to a distortion of the glorious and, for all conceiving, breathtakingly active happening which takes place there

One may also call it a seething cauldron, a foundry ladle, but at the same time also a luminous ring, in the centre of which there lies a glowing hollow in which it bubbles and boils, so that at the same time in its ripeness it pours over the edges and follows the directions towards the individual world-parts, into which it then flows as a luminous stream, bearing within it the foundation containing all that is needful for the upbuilding and the maintaining of the spheres and worlds of all the materialities

At the same time it is needful to perceive this in the necessary translucent lightness which belongs to it by its original nature, for the animistic is in its foundation so heterogeneous to all the degrees of the materialities that under all circumstances it penetrates everything

This is needful so that a sufficiency of this stream may always reach exactly those places to which it is sent in answer to the attracting power in the depths of the worlds

At the same time it is like the sounding of that glorious symphony which, as an echo vibrating through all the denser degrees of the materialities, is borne into the far distances so as there, in the glorifying of the divine greatness of the Creator, to awaken everything and to set vibrating the life contained within it

The streams flowing out of this continually seething ring of the lowest-lying place in Asgard are that foundation which bears within it all that is needful for the further cooling and combining, which takes place in the fulfilment of the Laws that are skilfully applied by all the beings who serve under the wise guidance of the faithful servant of Valhalla, Hermetes

At the very beginning of the development of the world-part, Hermetes at the bidding of O-dio-nar gave the direction of their descent, after the servant Hathmes had before that unlocked with his luminous staff the passage into the nothingness

Following upon this sacred happening, the luminous stream poured forth out of the circular vessel and hastened in the direction appointed to it by the sacred crozier of Hermetes

Within these animistic particles there glowed a particle of the spiritually animistic, which had before that descended out of Primordial Creation as a creative vibration

The animistic particles thus filled the space beneath the gardens of Asgard, and out of their living fluidity the Alphar sent forth for this task were permitted to form the first gardens of the ethereal degree of Subsequent Creation

So that the whole direction might be held in a lasting order, there was at the same time also formed a connecting bridge of light, the guarding of which was assigned to the servant Hiemdal, who for this task arose in the halls of Valhalla by the will of O-dio-nar

As the first thing upon the very summit of the ethereal starting-point there arose in most glorious forms the temple for the faithful service of the angel of Ephesus, who was permitted to enter here as a servant of animistic nature appointed by the Will of God, and who was sent to his task out of the planes of Patmos of Primordial Creation

Therefore we may call him an angel, however much by his entering upon his office he also became one who listens to the commands of O-dio-nar

The temple of the servant appointed for the guarding of this world-part vibrates in the most blissful flowing of ethereal light there, where these ethereal gardens, with the beginning of their forming, still only lightly join upon the gardens of the animistic service appointed for the receiving of the spiritual sparks for their preparation for the immersion into the materialities

Precisely above his field of action there was afterwards additionally joined the Luminous castle of the guard, which descended here formed by the devoted will of the knighthood of Montsalvat in the spiritual

And so downwards out of all these places there descends so many kinds of help and so much blessing that it is very hard to imagine that there are still men on Earth who perceive nothing of it and who have not the least inkling of all that is to be found upon this tiny Earth circling in the mighty embrace of the gross material hermetis

Only after a certain time, when all the degrees of the ethereal planes had settled, in which the sparks of the human spiritual, clothed only in the light garments of the ethereal soul kind, are permitted to prepare themselves, was everything made ready for the forming of yet one more degree of the material kind, in which the human spirit could begin to develop in the use of his free will without being threatened by that immediate intervention of the Law of Reciprocal Action whenever he should decide to act wrongly

This gift of the delaying of the reciprocal action could be brought precisely by one more degree of materiality, which by its density was to form a sufficiently dense protection against the immediacy of the effects of the Laws of Creation

Men do not yet grasp what a great gift lies in this for them

At the same time, however, in this density, which here in the hermetis of Ephesus is given by the earthly gross material covering, there threatens along with it for the spirit an indolence and a sleep arising from the excessive slowing of the thinking that is bound up with the gross material covering of the earthly body and with the instrument of the intellect, which shares in all its deciding and is its inseparable part

How much knowledge lies in this and how much help there is in the possibility of being permitted to know something of this ordering of the conditions, men are even today unable rightly to value

In the Message, brought out of the heights of the Grail by Parzival Himself, there is granted to the human spirit a help and a salvation which nothing can outweigh

It needs only to be rightly grasped in the experiencing of the present, so that out of this gift sent forth from the Divine the spirit may rightly win for himself that great help

So much knowledge is now upon this Earth

But that is still far from all, because not all the knowledge out of the Message can yet be given in a more unfolded form, for that is appointed only for riper spirits in a later time of a more advanced mankind

Mankind as a whole would not bear it, and in its intellectuality it would endeavour to drag it down again only to its low aims, which have their foundation in trade or in the ruling over and the enslaving of its fellow men

This is now forbidden, and after the great purification on Earth such a thing will be no more

By the Light, however, there is already now granted far more than is needful for spiritually open men to be permitted to step out freely and unhindered towards the completing of their ascent to the blissful gardens of the spiritual home

The luminous salvation and the divine help for the human spirit is on Earth

And all this penetrated here laboriously at the cost of many sacrifices for the Light, precisely even here into that degree of materiality which at the beginning had to be established so that the human spirit with his soul cloak might always for a time immerse himself in the protecting degree of the earthly body, in which more room is given him for erring in the recognising of the right direction of his development

This degree of the materialities was formed as a wise degree of covering, in which the spiritual can unfold like a grain in the soil

Therefore also was this soil formed, so that all that is spiritual might have a support for its development

It was formed in wisdom and in perfection of execution

Thus when everything stood ready in its ripeness, the servants of Valhalla, Hermetes and Hathmes, drew near again in order by their deed to open time and space into the places of the nothingness in a still greater degree of cooling than was the case with all the previous degrees of forming in Ephesus

And so the staff of Hathmes opened the passage further beyond the borders of the ethereal, and the crozier of Hermetes showed the direction for the flowing of the particles of light which were from the beginning appointed for the upbuilding of the gross material hermetis

In a mighty stream the power of the radiating particles broke into the darkness and in its cooling condensed, under the ordering of Hermetes, into the basic building elemental particles, of which there are several in gradation and of which today's mankind still knows nothing

Only out of these elemental particles there poured ever new and newer power, pressing forward into the happenings and relations in which the smallest particles of gross materiality were formed

These again, under the law of cooling and at the same time of the attraction of the inner spiritual kernels, condensed ever more and more into wholes forming the starting shapes of hermetis with all that was to come to life in it

At that moment there already journeyed downwards out of the heights yet further particles being born in the animistic circular cauldron

These particles bore within them the primordial preliminary degree of the animistically unconscious life

They bore within them the quivering seeds of life which by their magnetism were to attract in matter everything that the experienced hands of the animistic servants recognised as the way to the awakening of the first principle of life upon one small planet, which was entrusted by Hermetes to Erda, called for this task, who vibrated in the nearness of the sun of Apollo

The primordial seeds of the unconsciously animistic principle of life flew downwards and, passing by all the clouds of star clusters and constellations still only in the forming, drew unswervingly near to the place where, out of the Will of the Creator and thus out of the faithfully obedient will of all the High animistic servants, life was to be anchored

The glowing heat which appeared at the beginning of all the frictions, of the reactions of combining and joining in the arising of the important points of support in hermetis, thereafter slowly subsided, and with the participation of the Alphar sent here there penetrated everything gradually the calm and gentle circling of hermetis

This also made possible the forming of ever nearer degrees of the radiation of the substances of which the gross material cloak of Erda is composed, and that primordially unconscious principle of life could thus descend to the Earth itself and sink into its surface and its middle layers there to take hold and to develop

Far back therefore lies the beginning of life upon this planet in hermetis, and men still have no inkling how this life came here and how the awakening of that longing for life came about at all

They have no inkling that the foundation lies in that principle of the unconsciously animistic life, which in the form of fine luminous seeds bore within it the prototype of the forms and shapes for the basic development of life

Out of this luminosity of the seeds there was formed the way to the shaping of the substances which bear within them all that is needful for the repetition in the multiplying here, in the gross material degree of dense substance

The quickening of matter came as the subsequent shaping of the initial command of God the Father precisely and solely out of animistic hands

Life here could arise only through the radiation, or also the glowing heat and the luminosity, of the first seeds of the unconsciously animistic principle, which for this purpose were joined together in the sacred seething of that circular cauldron which lies in the lowest place beneath the gardens

But all this was only the beginning, and the rest in the splendour of the whole development was yet to come
