Above the planes of the earlier mentioned oceans which are to be found in the gardens of Asgard there spreads out a still more radiant part, where we may find precisely that ocean which is the gathering-place of the animistic radiation containing all that is needful for the development of the conscious animistic species working in the gross material communities of the Subsequent Work of Creation

In this part of the gardens, which are again filled with the uplifting, vibrating power of animistic working, there lies precisely all that which makes the earthly world of nature living, working in the enduring weaving of the blessed Will of God

Out of this ocean there spring downwards, into the materialities, little seeds bearing within themselves a higher kind of animistic radiation which is whole in itself and thus bears full endowment for the unfolding of a consciousness which always, immediately after its awakening, develops in complete devotion to the Will of God in Creation

The animistic kind of service contained in these shining little seeds is identical with the kind of service which joyfully prevails and creates everywhere where the animistic principle is, whether this be the highest working in Valhalla, or whether it pulse in the smallest vibration of the unconscious wisdom which is contained in the creative flickering that fills the lowest ocean of life in Asgard

All the descending little seeds come into the planes of the materialities, and in these materialities, together with their enlivening, they bring with them the important principle of a fully devoted, joyful service to God, in the fulfilling even of the smallest tasks

The ocean which in this plane of Asgard opens itself to our sight is rather like a sparkling nebula, and in a certain respect it resembles the clouds and nebulae stretching beneath paradise, in which however there are contained little sparks of the spiritual species, bearing within themselves the longing for a consciousness of the spiritual kind

Precisely a certain luminosity of the said little seeds, which fill those nebulae of the animistic species that lie beyond all sight and which precipitate and condense into a certain surface wherein there is a perpetual sparkling glimmer, this luminosity of a higher kind contains within itself that higher consciousness which, however, in the ocean still awaits its unfolding and its application

As though above the surface of a lake there spread a morning veil of mist through which the rays of the sun shine from the heights, and at the same time in this veil there appear the flashes of a wonder-working life flowing in streams beneath the surface, so can we best render the picture which comes near to the imagination of earthman in connection with the place of this part of the gardens of Asgard

The peacefulness of a quiet morning and at the same time the freshness of a penetrating, refreshing breath of air, all this only in part renders this place, which is the cradle of the sparks bearing within themselves the germ of a conscious animistic existence destined for the materialities

Above these nebulae there hover the winged Aesir, and, armed with singular long spears with sparklingly shining points, every now and then they plunge the spear into the nebula, so that it may thereafter shine forth more and be set into waves

With every setting into waves there comes about at the end of this ocean a release of the little seeds, which in their springing forth make their way downwards, into the depths of the materialities

Far is the way of these animistic sparks hastening downwards after the fulfilment of their conscious service

Their conscious service can begin to be fulfilled only at a certain place, at which the sparks come to rest and are caught in the given degree of materiality for further development

The way of the little seeds bearing within themselves the capacity for full conscious service joins itself with the streams flowing out of the lower-lying oceans, and joined together into a mighty pouring stream they then form the rainbow bridge leading to that particular world-community of the materialities

Precisely the earlier mentioned rainbow bridge, which is watched over and guarded by the faithful, for ever vigilant servant Hiemdall, is woven out of the manifoldness of the streaming animistic powers making their way severally to the seven world-parts of the materialities

The bridge is therefore not a bridge upon which one crosses singly from one side to the other, as is the chief purpose here on Earth, but the animistic bridge streaming towards the immersing into the materialities is at the same time a conductor of the immense radiations of the animistic species which sprang forth at the beginning of the arising of the materialities, and there stream perpetually through this bridge towards the materialities ever new enlivening radiations out of the animistic plane at the summit of the Subsequent Work of Creation

It is only with difficulty possible now for man to picture to himself the mightiness of this bridge, which conducts within itself all that is needful out of the animistic downwards into the materialities and back

The band of the Milky Way stretching across the starry night sky is only a small reflection of this stream

The hitherto conceptions of this bridge must therefore now undergo with many a reader an alteration, for it is now evident that it is not a matter of some rainbow arch hovering in space, but the bridge of which we speak is in its nature a mighty flowing stream of vividly glittering animistic light which contains within itself all that is needful for life in all the degrees of the materialities

Seen from above, the luminous stream of radiant light, issuing from the sparklingly radiant gardens of Asgard, plunges downwards into a dark green space in which there runs the cycle of life in the universes that are like fruits, in which there takes place a very important happening for the development of the human spirits

Above these universes there rises upwards the nebula of the ethereal planes, which in the direction upwards are ever more translucent and more irradiated

These ethereal materialities are so vast that they hold within themselves multiples of all the entire material universes, and yet their extent is not even in part exhausted

So incomparably spreading out are the planes of the ethereal worlds

They bear within themselves the space for the ripening of the endless multitudes of human souls which were permitted to leave the earthly body and to which, in their partial maturity and purity, it was made possible to ascend into the lighter spheres of the ethereal worlds

Here, in complete enchantment by a splendour which is again created through the agency of the animistic servants, there ripen many souls filled with joy in a life so different in its splendour and in its refreshing lightness from the earthly world

And precisely this peacefulness and splendour, always exactly reflecting within itself a certain permeability and translucency of the ethereal materialities, is formed by the conscious animistic servants whose mission is the weaving and the creating of landscapes and also of buildings and of all the further forms corresponding to the maturities of the human souls in the ethereal worlds

These servants come from the plane of the ocean of animistic life described by us, and in Valhalla they are called the Alphar

They are close to the luminous Aesir from the gardens of Asgard, with whom they have much in common, and men who are permitted to behold them in the ethereal worlds, enchanted by their perfect forms, often call them angels

They call them so also because the Alphar have wings which make possible for them a light movement and also the swiftness with which they move through the spheres which they administer

Their wings, however, have not the likeness of angelic pinions, but with them we may rather behold the delicately azure forms of butterfly wings

Their forms are both of the masculine and of the feminine kind, and both kinds administer the planes of the ethereal materialities according to need

It is rather the masculine beings of the Alphar who create and enliven the landscapes and the buildings, while the feminine beings of the Alphar care for the flowers and for the elements, which in certain refined forms occur also in the ethereal worlds of the glorious landscapes and gardens

The Alphar also care for the bodily shells of the souls and bring to them a higher luminosity, or a densification, if there is need of it, so that the course of the soul may be expressed, which either strives upwards or downwards

The Alphar also bring the human souls to incarnation into the gross materialities and thereafter lead them again back to the planes to which they justly belong, when the earthly time for man is fulfilled for his departure into the finer degree of matter

In these their tasks they co-operate with the Vaenen, who are the great weavers of the destinies of men and who have their origin at the very summit of the gardens of Asgard

These strict and unshakable weavers serve faithfully, being called to the direct service of O-dio-nar and of the High servants serving under him, who administer the destinies of the human souls in the Subsequent Creation

Thus the Vaenen – the administrators and weavers of the threads of fate, are they who determine whither a human soul will belong after its departure from the gross material world

In the ethereal world the Alphar then translate their threads exactly into the covering which belongs to a human soul in proportion to its inner state

Therefore the Alphar also are those who are near to a human soul when it returns from the earthly world and for a certain time still bears upon itself the finer imprint of the features of the earthly body

In the moment when its awareness of who it truly is upon its inner level becomes ever clearer, then under the hands of the Alphar its appearance is transformed towards the corresponding reflection of the volition which is in the soul upon its new conscious plane

Although it is often a matter of great transformations, yet none of the near souls which in the ethereal luminous worlds stand in a relationship is surprised by it when there comes about a transformation of the soul appearance of a soul after its return from the earthly life, for they often know this soul from the time before its incarnation and they also know the motives which led it to the accepting of a certain earthly covering of the body

When therefore a man departs from the earth who was on Earth in some physical covering, then after a certain lapse of time, sooner or later, there will change in the ethereal world, for example, his outward aspect, which lies in another colour of the skin, in another degree of age and also in an appearance which may be the opposite of what the earthly sex was

In spite of all these changes, which precisely the gentle and kindly Alphar help the soul to realise, nowhere in the ethereal is this transforming experienced with astonishment, or with a sensation such as would surely attach to it in the earthly world

In the ethereal planes it holds that the higher anyone is in the more noble planes, the more as a matter of course and with joy are his possible transformations received after his return from the gross material world, for by the inhabitants there it is quite seriously and naturally accepted that the soul thus returns to the likeness which at the given degree is most its own

In the ethereal planes of the lighter kind there is naturally a higher reverence towards the other souls, and it is also there as a matter of course the knowledge that the spirit irradiates the soul body more strongly than the body was irradiated in the earthly world, and thereby the development of the soul covering is also more natural and more living

Therefore also the earthly time during which man is on Earth lasts only in a bounded manner, so that the soul may be permitted after its departure from the Earth to experience the splendour of its transformation to a more truly own appearance which corresponds more to its inner state

It is needful to add that the transformations of the appearance of souls of course take place also in the denser and darker planes of the ethereal worlds, but these transformations are not and cannot be joyful, and it is therefore not needful to speak of them more closely

It is better to speak here of the pictures of the lighter planes, in which more hope and strengthening may be found

Whether then the transformations in the lighter ethereal spheres, in which precisely the Alphar have their creative share as the arrangers of the conditions, take place more swiftly or more slowly, always around them we may find only an omnipresent reverence and a corresponding earnest joyfulness

Often these transformations also take place in the time of the sleep of the soul, or in its brief withdrawal from the others, when precisely in a certain inner progress there fall away from the soul the last forms of appearance which it still brought with it from the earthly world

After the laying aside of these last earthly echoes the soul is then such as it is formed by its whole development, wherein there interweaves the maturity of many past earthly lives and also of the experiences gained in the planes of the finer worlds

After a certain time there is here, in that other world, again a soul such as it is exactly at its degree of development, unbound by the echo of the density of its preceding earthly body

This is precisely the work of the kindly, admirably working Alphar, who form the soul body exactly according to the radiation of the maturity and of the consciousness of the spiritual flame irradiating the soul

The Alphar have in their charge yet many further works which here on Earth are unknown, precisely because the kind of the ethereal world differs from the gross material world

Therefore for the material worlds of this kind there arise, beside the Alphar, who work only in the planes of the ethereal, also the Elves and the Dwarves, known also otherwise as gnomes, who immerse themselves into still denser coverings so as to be able to work more effectively closely above the materiality which we call the gross matter known here in the earthly world

The Elves and the Dwarves are those working in the materialities, and the manner of designation used for them hitherto confuses many men, for they use their designations unclearly and confusedly, according to the fragments which remained to them as echoes of the ancient peoples who used to see them and knew them

It is possible to say that the Elves are those who work in the manifestations of nature which have to do with a higher movement and liveliness

Their work is joined for the greater part with the plants of all kinds, to whose foundation of the unconscious kind, which is contained in the cells of the plants, the Elves add a certain kind of radiation which is necessary for the manifesting of the true splendour and purposefulness of the plants

The splendour and the purposefulness of the plants is always the work of the Elves working in the plants, for only their near presence raises the radiation which is woven upon the astral level and which decides whether a plant will bear in its blossoms more fragrance, its fruits more juiciness, and with the healing plants the measure of healing power also is determined by this presence

There is much knowledge which could in this respect be yet further expounded and which would bring clarification in many questions which prevail in men concerning the working of the animistic Elves

The Elves work in part also in the elements, where however they have one part only from themselves and have also a part from the Dwarves, who are always more joined with the actual density of matter

The purely separate working of the Dwarves we find only in everything that is connected with the rocks

It is not only the small Dwarves known precisely as gnomes and sprites, but there are here also great Dwarves, such as the giants whom the men of the ancient peoples knew as the Risuns

Dwarf is therefore a designation which we may assign to one whole animistic kindred which is joined directly with matter

Dwarf therefore does not mean only a sprite or a little dwarf, as men use it, but it is needful to know that the designation Dwarf is the designation for the animistic servants working in the density of matter

Dwarf, or also Zwarf, whichever designation is better for anyone to pronounce, holds for all the animistic servants working in the womb of gross matter

Of these servants there is a great number, and they are spread into many layers and degrees in which they serve together the higher commands from the animistic

The present state on Earth it is possible to designate only as lamentable fragments of the reality, where men who at least in part perceive something seek to mediate this for other men

In spite of the good will and the endeavours of many men gifted for it, there prevails here, alas, great confusion and unclearness, which however in the animistic world is entirely excluded

Thus there is here precisely only an acquaintance with the Dwarves as tiny little men always tinkering at something with matter, whether it be joined with the soil, with the rocks, or with the precious metals

The Dwarves, however, are for the greater part not visible to men, for for the greatest part they remain deep in the mountain ranges and work here in their activity

Dwarf therefore does not mean only a sprite, but there are here great and mighty servants who are able to move continents, to raise whole parts of mountain ranges, and who are also able to break out for man an exactly worked piece of stone, if man deserves it by his pure and humble approach

There are therefore many degrees of animistic beings who bear the designation Dwarf

It is only that men have left this designation for the smallest of these servants in matter, because these, unlike the giant Risuns, appear to men rather more often, and therefore their name became established in connection with the small animistic sprites

A certain kind of animistic servants who are between the Elves and the Dwarves are the water animistic ones, the Aglami, and also the animistic ones of fire, the Salamanders

Their forms are known among men as water nymphs, water sprites, Tritons and others in the element of matter, and Salamanders of various sizes up to the Vulcans, who work in the element of fire

There are many various kinds and degrees of the working beings of these glorious servants, who immerse themselves into the degree of the fine gross materiality and out of it worked through the middle gross materiality down to the densest kind of matter, the gross materiality which we know as the earthly world, the universe and also nature

Many men know them also under the general designation of the elementary forces of nature

It is not fitting here to explain all the confusions which have hitherto been heaped up around these glorious servants and which hinder seriously seeking men from receiving the knowledge about the animistic servants

But let us return to the basic origin of these servants and to the principle in which they work

All these beings have their starting-point in the reservoir of animistically conscious life which is to be found upon one of the higher storeys of the gardens of Asgard

It is their faithful service which formed gradually out of the dust of the universe, out of whose basic particles the stars and the planets were formed, the habitable spaces which were permitted to become a starting-point for the ripening of the human souls which could immerse themselves into the earthly covering of the body

It is for man an incomprehensible, wondrous happening how through the service of these faithful animistic workers there are fulfilled every day the laws upon which we may lean with a scientifically demonstrable certainty

Nevertheless earthman has removed himself so far from all that is finer, more of the soul and spiritual, that in the end he acknowledges this material world, which for him is the alpha and the omega of existence, as the result of a development of chaos and of random transformation

He does not comprehend that above all development in matter there stood and there stand the multitudes of faithfully and devotedly serving beings which for the purpose of their service immersed themselves into the materialities out of the heights of the gardens of Asgard

Their work is for them development and ripening

Therefore we find on Earth a visible process of development, because it reflects the ever growing knowledge and consciousness of all the animistic working

In all things, however, there is woven in, as the great guardian and determiner of the enduring following of the Laws of God, the principle of the unconsciously animistic wisdom

It is the point of support for the work of the small animistic beings, whom we call by their basic names, the Elves and the Dwarves

Dividing themselves into many kinds and sub-kinds, into degrees and sub-degrees, they work as one great gearwork of the perfect course of the fulfilling of the Laws of God here in this gross material universe

To them we owe it that the flowers bloom, that the watercourses stream, that the fire flames and that the granite stones hold the proud buildings of man

We need therefore now to draw nearer to their nature, so that we may at last cease, through our complete ignorance of which many men are alas still very proud, to harm and to hinder their work and their activity as little as possible

The Elves and the Dwarves are the bearers of the animistic light with which they enliven this world, which without them would be for man gloomy and entirely uninhabitable

Through them, through their faithful weaving in the world of nature, we may also come to know the very world of their origin, the world of the animistic servants in the Subsequent Work of Creation

Through the small animistic servants we are permitted to catch the song vibrating through the gardens of Asgard, and also the mighty rumbling descending into the depths of the universes over the mighty walls of the harsh and unapproachable Valhalla

Would that there were here as great a number of men as possible who are able in the right manner to esteem their devoted service and to honour it in the fulfilling of an enduring, harmonious co-operation with them
