In the Gardens of Asgard – Part Iii. the Ocean of Animal Souls

Above the gardens of Asgard of the lowest degree, which along their whole edge are bounded by the ocean of the unconscious principle of animistic life, there spread out somewhat higher gardens irradiated still more strongly by the animistic light, in which we find the noble Aesir, the faithful animistic helpers who care for the streams that flow out of the reservoir which contains within itself the foundation for the souls that in the materialities immerse themselves into animal bodies

The happening which takes place in these gardens, lying a degree higher than are the gardens of the unconscious animistic principle of life, is very similar to the picture already described in the past part, only we need here in these gardens to seek yet more radiance and a certain higher vibrancy of life which omnipresently vibrates through these places

The reservoir here, towards which the winding ways in the gardens lead, if indeed these do not lead over the mountain ranges higher, into the further planes, is a glorious place, where above its surface, beyond all sight, hiding within itself the murmur of a particular kind of animistic life, there arches a radiance like the shining arc of an earthly rainbow

This ocean also spreads out as a mighty ring around the gardens, which in themselves by their extent surpass all the imagination of earthly men

Glorious is this place, filled with a singular joyful volition which drives everything forward, to an ever new fulfilling of service

The ocean, which waves silverily into the distances, always ends in luminous nebulae which, like a sun-irradiated haze, conceal its far boundaries

Behind these nebulae, which veil the blessed happening of the immersing of the unconscious animistic into the materialities, we should then find an indescribable spectacle of roaring powers, as the streams flowing out of the ocean, which are like lofty waterfalls, make their way into the depths of the materialities

The direction of the streaming in these waterfalls of animistic life is, unlike the earthly waters, in both directions

Thus the powers flowing in it make their way in one stream downwards, but at the same time, through the same connections of the branching currents which nourish the materialities, a homogeneous power makes its way back, upwards out of the lowlands of the materialities into the waters of the ocean

This happening is well-nigh the same with all the reservoirs of life which we find in all the planes of the lower gardens of Asgard

The oceans nourish the worlds of the materialities with the enlivening powers of the animistic species, and at the same time, after a certain period, they draw this power of the cycle back, for a further enlivening which is mediated to these waters of animistic life by the servants working here

Above the far streams of the ocean, in which there is the foundation for all the animal souls, there rises the said rainbow of moving beauty

This rainbow signifies by its presence that the life found in this higher ocean of life is capable of attaining, in a certain measure, a self-conscious life

The kind of animistic radiation found in the waters and nebulae of the ocean here bears within itself a part of the predisposition to a possible development, and this both in the case of the whole and in the case of the several little seeds of the soul-life forming itself in this ocean

It is, however, still an entirely different kind of self-consciousness of which we speak here, if we are to compare it, for example, even only with the animistically self-conscious germs of the small servants whom we may find subsequently in the materialities as living figures of the small animistic beings, who with their own kind of radiation support matter in its enlivening

The starting-point of the said small animistic servants is again laid much higher, and gradually, in our descriptions of the gardens of Asgard, we shall come to it

The capacity for self-consciousness in the ocean here, of which we speak today, is different from the kind of the preceding ocean, in which there remains always the same unconscious principle of animistic life and in which as a rule nothing is born that should have in its striving a conscious volition for a life of its own

In this lies the difference here, for in the reservoir of the animal souls development is already possible

This development, however, is no necessary condition, and also a great number of the souls which go forth from it upon the way into the material worlds remain always the same and hardly develop at all

Already in the very nature of the existence of these souls the fulfilment is contained, for their task is the enlivening of animal bodies in the materialities

It is therefore not demanded that the nature of the animal soul should develop, and if it ever comes to a development into a higher consciousness, this is the work of a singular awakening of the inner volition, or it may also be under the effects of an outward working upon the animal souls in the gross material worlds

The starting-point of the animistic radiant streaming which flows into the materialities of the world-communities enlivens precisely the grossest parts of the materialities in that it joins itself, through its soul-animistic degree, with the gross material bodies of the animals

In the bodies of the animals this radiation may then ripen and thus gain a certain kind of conscious experience, which holds its nature always somewhat longer than is the actual life of the animal in gross materiality, yet in the end even every such longer-enduring consciousness and experience, brought back into the reservoir, dissolves in the total degree of consciousness

The stronger, however, this consciousness is which departs in the soul of the animal out of the material body, the longer it may hold its own experience, gained during the time of the immersion into a new animal body

Here it is already evident beforehand to every attentive reader that an influence upon the forming of the said consciousness is exerted above all by the earthly length of life, whereby animals with a longer possibility of gaining earthly experiences hold these experiences, their consciousness, for a longer time before this dissolves in the reservoir, in order to enrich it as a whole with a new kind of experiences

This time, when the returned conscious animistic vibration of the animal has not yet entirely dissolved in the total ocean, we may observe as those shining little seeds which raise themselves higher, into the more translucent plane of the ocean, for their partial consciousness draws them upwards, towards the Light, in the direction towards which in the whole of Creation everything tends that gains for itself a certain self-consciousness

Here it is needful to say that the ocean has several layers in its column of content, similarly as it is with the earthly deep waters

Lowest in this column we find a milkily shining sediment, out of which, quite at the bottom, there joins itself into this animistic streaming hastening towards the materialities a radiation which in its vibration does not differ much from that species-nature which we find in the lower ocean already described in the past part

The life which from here makes its way downwards to the enlivening of the gross material shells of the animals pulses in an almost identical kind of radiation as is the unconscious principle of animistic life mentioned in the preceding part

This stream flows into the materialities and makes its way to the enlivening of the simplest creatures, which from the standpoint of earthly biology we may however already class among the cold-blooded vertebrates, that is, among the fishes and the amphibious creatures

Closely above this degree of the column we then find a layer which we may also call for the greater part unconscious, and this because this stream also makes its way towards the materialities in order to immerse itself into the bodies of the lower mammals and of the lower birds, such as for example mice, or in the case of birds those species which live a short life spent in flocks

From time to time this kind of radiation is directed also to larger species of animals, such as the plant-eating mammals, or birds, but this is only because this radiation has for its goal to dwell in the earthly body of the animal only for a certain time, so that the body of such an animal may then serve as food for other creatures

Such animals have it predetermined beforehand that they should serve as a source of sustenance

When the animistic servants know what goal the radiation of the soul-animistic is to fulfil in the earthly body, then precisely according to this there incarnates that particular degree of animistic consciousness

This of course does not exclude that thereafter earthly conditions may sometimes change the destiny of such an animal, and that it, in spite of its original destiny, fights out for itself a new prospect of the continuation of life, in that it defends itself against a predator, or in the case of man gains through something his affection, and thus, by the impulse of its own mobility of soul, wrenches itself upwards out of the original track of destiny, so as to be spared the fulfilment of the original intention of the animistic helpers

Thereby there is then offered to such an animal the possibility of drawing experiences which are for it a significant enrichment, and thereafter, in gaining a certain degree of consciousness, it may advance into a higher layer of conscious radiation in the total reservoir of the soul-animistic ocean

Here such an experience may then serve as an enrichment of the whole, or it may come about that a certain wholeness resembling a flickering little seed, or also a joined ball of radiation, holds its consciousness also further and in the next incarnation will immerse itself into matter as an already somewhat more conscious animal soul

This of course brings it into another body, which again has the predisposition to a still longer, or also a more independent life in the gross material world, and thereby there is again here an opportunity for the drawing of further experiences which may strengthen the consciousness of such an animal soul

If, however, during the time of its further existence the soul loses of its original strong volition for life and grows slothful, then at once the gained consciousness is ground down and dissolved into the preceding degree of soul unconsciousness

Thus it works and thus it functions, and if men knew how greatly they can be of help in this gaining of self-consciousness by the animals, they would far more esteem the glorious gift of the animal world which is accorded to them for their co-experiencing here on Earth as a completion of the whole fullness of life

Perhaps one day they will comprehend it more and will more esteem all the gifts which are accorded to them from the animistic servants, when these, in the faithful fulfilment of their service, arrange it all so that the prototype may be attained which went forth in wisdom from the Creator for the whole Work of Creation

If only men could once behold that splendour, how in the said ocean there gather the shining, returning conscious animal souls which are in the highest layer, waiting for the wonder which may one day come for them

Like trembling shining sparks longing for a further existence, the little seeds here await the wondrous moment which will bring them to the degree of the highest animistically animal consciousness in this part of the Subsequent Creation

This wonder for the animal soul is the gaining of a spark of love from the humanly spiritual species in the Subsequent Creation

For the leaping over of the wondrous spark the condition is also, at the same time, the conscious experiencing of the joyful love of the animal towards man

The animal needs to make full use of this opportunity for its significant progress towards the consciousness of itself

The love of man for the animal, and in return the requiting of love from the animal towards man, may help the animal soul to gain upon the animistic level a sufficiently strong addition of light, so that such a soul of the animal after its return into the animistic remains so far conscious that it can gradually separate itself from the waters of the ocean and pass over along the arch of the rainbow into the gardens of Asgard, where it then becomes, in its clarity about itself, a devoted servant working consciously upon one of the needful tasks in the Subsequent Creation

It is something indescribably glorious when an animal soul steps forth out of the waters of the ocean out of which, in the time of milliards of earthly years, it formed itself

Out of the ocean from which it went forth, and having through its development in the incarnations into the materialities fought out for itself the claim to its further enduring at the degree of a certain consciousness, it may then remove into the conscious planes of the gardens of Asgard

With the servants who in their mission care for this part of the gardens of Asgard this is always a cause for great joy, for that emerging of a whole soul of an animal out of the waters of the ocean is a promise of hope for all the other little seeds of animal souls

There always flows from it a strengthening for the total state of consciousness in the ocean, and this especially in its higher layers, where there is the more strengthened conscious vibration of the little seeds of the animals

The animal souls which have advanced higher and were permitted through their development to fight their way through to a certain consciousness then bear in their animistic manifestation the most varied forms of their appearance and expression which they loved best in the times of their incarnations

Often we may find here the most wondrous forms of animals which are not even known on Earth, or which were known in primeval times and of which now among men there is not the least inkling that such forms of animals can truly be

Their nobility and their perfect harmonious formation brings everyone who was permitted to come to these places of the gardens of the Aesir to amazement, and often human spirits bear within themselves further only a fleeting intimation that something so glorious can be a reality

In the following of the command of the necessity of survival, the animal souls had to develop in the gross material bodies which we know, and which today are only dim reflections of the true splendour of the shapes and forms of the animals dwelling in the planes of the animistic world

Thus there are in these planes animals which have only the entire foundation in common with what we know in the gross material world, but which moreover often have also wings, golden manes, alabaster-shining horns, or diamond-radiant plumage

All this would in gross material conditions be a hindrance and would make impossible, in the harsh world of nature here, the possibility of a long-enduring survival

In the animistic gardens we thus find fabled unicorns, winged lions, we find here also dragons, which however are furnished with golden or silver scales and with wings that make them at first sight noble and beneficent, in great contrast to the fables and legends which men know as distortions of the original pictures received from the animistic spheres

Many of the animals rejoice in the application also of their service in the planes of the fine materialities, where they serve entirely consciously, for example, in the ethereal gardens where the very young human souls develop towards their consciousness

Here these animal souls help and keep company with the child souls, in which there are immersed still quite tenderly shining spiritual sparks, in order with their consciousness to gladden them and also to pass on the little shards of wisdom which they can offer out of their conscious existence

As a rule it is joyfulness and devotion which these animal souls manifest as thanks to the Creator, and through gracefulness and pure beauty they uplift by their nearness the little souls towards consciousness, so that everywhere where they meet with animals they may perceive them as their friends and helpers

Here on Earth also it could have been so, had the development of the human world gone along the right ways

The animal world would sooner or later have been entirely subdued, in the good sense of the word, by the greatness and the radiance of the noble spiritual manifestation of the human world

Just as it would have been with all the small animistic servants working in the world of plants and in the elements, so too the animal world would have been irresistibly drawn by the power of the light of the spiritual species in noble men

Thus the earthly world also would gradually have moved into a certain degree of the co-operation of the spiritual and the animistic union, and the result of this would have been a true earthly reflection of the spiritual paradise in the luminous heights of the Work of Creation

Alas, the reality of today speaks of an entirely different direction of development, and thus the animal souls on Earth, just as all the small animistic servants, look upon man with mistrust and fear, but also with repugnance and contempt, which flows from the great fall of men into a dark volition that came about in the spiritual sloth of men and also in their following and carrying out of the tempting principle of Lucifer

All this, however, now stands close before the transformation which is demanded from the Light

Everything will advance in its development, and men also will now be strongly urged to lay their hands to the work upon the change for the better in the world of gross materiality

From a materiality become luminous it will thereafter be easier to look upwards and to observe the happenings which are above the actual earthly world of men

Men will with their purer consciousness more easily penetrate into the planes of the animistic spheres in the Subsequent Work of Creation and will be permitted to perceive more of the gardens of the luminous Aesir

If at the beginning we described the gardens of the luminous Aesir as blissful, and this even at that lowest degree where there is the ocean of the unconsciously animistic principle of life, then the second degree of the gardens described today men will call the glorious starting-point of the animal souls actively striving for self-consciousness

Although the animal souls bear within themselves, just as do those streams of the unconscious principle of life, the unconscious foundation of the animistic starting-point, yet men are never to call them slavishly dull nor empty creatures

Their existence is joined with the principle of animistic wisdom, which in its manifestations often surpasses the decisions of the intellectual men of today

If today we set side by side in the world of nature a man and an animal even of the lowest kind, then the animal, if it is healthy and can act freely, will at once find its ways of providing for itself and out of its nature will act in a wise self-preservation with full worth and purposefully

It is a question whether it is possible to say this also of man, who has entirely estranged himself from the world of nature and above all has lost his interweaving with the world of animistic working

In spite of his cleverness man is swiftly lost and becomes a plaything of the world of nature if he is exposed to its conditions, without his inventions and especially without his weapons

This shows how entirely there is lacking in men that with which even the smallest soul of the animal species is filled

Thereby is meant the wisdom with which the animal soul is able to draw instinctively counsel and inspiration out of the vibrations which pervade the whole animistic working in matter

Men have removed themselves too far from nature and thereby from the world of animistic working, and thus with almost every one of their decisions they do harm to nature and inflict grievous wounds upon it

It is possible to say that even a mouse, or a titmouse, or only a tiny meadow grasshopper, are in this respect wiser than the earthman schooled in human schools

Nevertheless there dwells in man the predisposition to a returning again to accord with the world of animistic working

One day he will have to return to this accord

He will be compelled to it by the harsh effects of the great animistic servants dwelling in Valhalla

The effects which will now fall upon earthman in the work of these noble servants of Valhalla bear within themselves also contained the message of the complete fulfilment of the Will of God

These animistic ones draw in their working the power out of the Will of God, adapted for their species by the Primordially Created radiation of the mighty Mercury

Thus even the smallest happening in the animal world is a reflection of a certain wisdom which now bears witness against the earthly world of men

Whatever is done to the smallest creatures is done to the animistic world as a whole

The animal souls are not dull creatures destined by the Creator for arbitrary treatment on the part of men coarsened in their intuitive perceiving, but they are here for the completion of the wholeness of the splendour of the earthly world

The hand of no earthly man is to be raised against the animal souls out of the impulse of wantonness, or of the desire to kill them without sense

Grievously will such doing avenge itself upon every man who has lowered himself to a dulled killer, without harmony with the world of the animal souls

Only he who truly hungers and has a serious reason for it may raise his hand against animal life for the fulfilling of his needs of life, just as it is in the whole animal world

Such a one, however, will decide quite otherwise than men have done hitherto for thousands of years

There is an end to the futile animal sacrifices which in reality were never demanded of man by God in the way in which it is still today expounded

Earthman is to seek ways of reconciliation with the world of animistic working on Earth

Whoever acts against this commandment and supports through his manner of living other men in the heartless slaughtering of animals, for amusement or out of the wantonness of a perverted superfluity, he will soon receive an answer from the world of the animistic servants, who draw near in order at last to teach the human race the knowledge of the true humility and subordination with which they submit to the wise course of the guidance of the worlds

Those who always bore themselves considerately towards animals and honoured their inborn wisdom and beauty, in co-operation with them, need not fear, for to them there will descend from the ocean of the animal souls joy and not accusation

Whoever among men has among the animal souls some of those which look upon him in loving friendship may rejoice that upon his further ways he will meet with one of these souls

The love of an animal soul endures through the ages and will announce itself at the right time, in order in its form of glorious animistic appearance to recall itself to the human spirit upon his ways

Blessed are those human spirits who have in the gardens of Asgard their friends, who look out for them in joyful lovingness and will wish to greet them upon their way that uplifts them to the heights of the true home, in the spiritual planes of Creation
