A great vibration of life we find in the places where there is gathered a particular part of the animistic species, which divides itself into several degrees leading from above downwards, from the strongest servants working in conscious volition down to the entirely unconscious principle of vibration

Decisive for the right understanding of what is described further on is the important condition of discernment that the animistic is of an entirely different kind of working in Creation than the spiritual, and consequently that however similar some degrees of development may be to one another, the animistic always remains animistic and the spiritual spiritual

This indication is needful also for the right understanding of the concept of the soul, whereby a soul having a spiritual core goes other ways in the following of its development in the Subsequent Work of Creation, whereas souls developing out of the core of an animistic seed are led along entirely other tracks of their wandering

The single name soul has therefore a meaning only from the standpoint of the enveloping in the fine coverings of the materialities, but otherwise there is here an entirely fundamental difference between the spiritual and the animistic

In reality we may look upon it thus, that the concept of the soul signifies a covering which mediates the intermediate stage for the enlivening of the materialities, whether of the ethereal kind or of the densest gross material kind

Now, however, let us return to the glorious landscapes and gardens of Asgard, for only in them can we find the direct starting-point for the life which inclines towards the materialities, in order in its nature of animistic vibration to bring the enlivening of the materialities everywhere whither it is destined to arrive

Peace-filled and yet at the same time supremely creative is the atmosphere which fills all the parts of Asgard wherein there is born the life for the materialities

We find here a murmuring streaming which blows for the strengthening of all that bears within itself the germ of life

Noble figures walk in various directions, in order in the fulfilment of their tasks to administer all that is needful for the flowing of the luminous streams of life which pour into the materialities lying somewhat deeper beneath the purely animistic sphere

Having their appointed tasks, the luminous figures of the animistic species strengthen the life which spreads out into immeasurable distances in the places which we may call a reservoir on the edge of the gardens wherein the glorious Aesir work, the luminous servants of Valhalla

The figures of the said Aesir draw near to the places which we can best describe by the earthly concept of an ocean

The murmuring energy of life contained in this great reservoir is an inexhaustible source of powers of the animistic species destined for the enlivening of all the degrees of the materialities, in which, thanks to this animistic primordial nature, there can arise the enlivening principle of the luminous vibration which brings the enlivening from degree to degree ever lower and lower, until at last it immerses itself into the actual worlds of the gross materialities

The ocean of which we shall speak as the first is to be found on the edge of the lowest part of the gardens of Asgard

It is thus nearest to the materialities and at the same time farthest from the originating powers of Valhalla, seen from above

In this lowest-lying place of the gardens, which in spite of their distance from the castle of Valhalla are in their beauty blissful and glorious in comparison with the earthly world, there murmurs an ocean in which there is a separated part of the enlivening animistic principle, which we may call the luminous ocean of entirely unconscious life

Its content is the lowest, separated kind of animistic vibration, of that vibration which no longer has within itself any consciousness other than that which we may call the luminous, animistically enlivening principle

This enlivening is a certain result of the separation of all the preceding higher kinds of the fully self-conscious animistic species, and also of the lower degrees, which can only gradually develop in the following of their ways

The ocean which is now in our attention is thus a certain last circle of animistic life, out of which there had already before separated everything that bore within itself even the smallest predisposition to self-consciousness

We may therefore speak of the last circle of life of the animistic species, which is now only a kind of brightly radiant milky sediment, in which life appears only as working in principles which it is possible to call principles urging forward in striving

Although we speak here of the last precipitation of the animistic radiation, having within itself only the unconscious principle proper, yet this principle is still very strong for the enlivening of all the matter into which it immerses itself and with which it subsequently unites

It has within itself so much power that all the matter contained in all the world-parts is subject to its flowing and follows it in the fulfilment of its ways, as obediently carrying out all the forms which arise under the pressure of the streams of substance out of this ocean

It is also needful to remark that, although we speak here of the unconscious principle of the animistic radiation which has gathered into an ocean surrounding the lowest gardens of Asgard, yet in this unconscious substantiality there is contained a wisdom versed in the following of the Laws of Creation, a wisdom which in its nature is by much more conscious than are many a man who supposes that there exist here no laws which would bear within themselves the enduring application of the Will of the Creator, which works above all things

This animistic wisdom is truly woven into all things, and thus every single particle of matter bears within itself the message of the existence of God, which stands above all

If we look upon a tiny grain of sand, if we take a stone into our hand, if we scoop water into our palms, then in the right attunement we may hear the whisper of these seemingly lifeless forms of matter, which however bear permanently contained within themselves the animistic substantiality that tells of the nature of the life out of which all things proceeded

From this standpoint it is possible to say, with exaggeration, that every stone is, in the wisdom which it has within itself, contained there through the animistic radiation, wiser and thereby also more useful than whole multitudes of men who, although they have within them the spiritual spark, which is of a far higher kind than the said animistic substantiality, will recognise nothing and live in a certain comfortable drowsiness in which they follow that which other men have prepared beforehand for them in thoughts

To this wisdom, which is an inseparable part of the whole principle, we shall yet draw near many times from various sides

Now it is important to recognise and to reflect upon this, that already in that ocean lying at the lowest degree of Asgard there is contained the creative power and, inseparably joined with it, wisdom as a principle enlivening and forming the planes of matter

This ocean divides itself at its outer edge, in the direction away into the distance from the gardens of Asgard, into seven streams which, like immense descending waterfalls, plunge downwards into the materialities of the world-parts, where these materialities continually drink them in avidly into themselves, in order to draw from this principle of life the basic enlivening

The vibration of life contained in these streams bears the nature of a living substantiality which we may perceive as the primal material, as the basic building stones, having within themselves an enduring accord with the Laws of Creation, and from this foundation the High animistic administrators working in the elements may take for their need for their work in the materialities

In this enlivening part there is thus contained the principle bearing within itself, for example, the foundations which we know in the earthly world as the electric charge, and also the powers out of which there arise, for example, the interactions of chemical compounds precipitating into rocks, water, air, fire

For the fulfilling of these happenings, which we know as the lawful chemical and physical processes in matter, this basic principle is needful, and subsequently also the co-operating working of the servants who in a chained guidance pass on to one another from above downwards the directions for the penetration of these powers into the outermost manifestations of matter

The basic animistic principle issuing from the said ocean in the lowest-lying gardens of Asgard brings into matter the enlivening which forms the actual vibration of matter, in that the smallest particles of matter bear within themselves that magnetic energy recognised by men which proceeds from the circling of the atomic nuclei of the elements

The powers from the said principle of the animistic species immerse themselves into the nucleus of the atoms across the pre-quark and quark bridge, in which there is precisely that enlivening power of the animistic principle

That this animistic enlivening principle is truly living, and therefore that there is not contained in its nature even a little dullness and emptiness of content, is testified by the fact that the same enlivening principle at another separated degree immerses itself also into all the organisms which men call the smallest kinds of life, found in the cells and also in the basic structures joined into multi-cellular organisms tending towards the animal as well as towards the plant direction

It is therefore comprehensible to the reader that this ocean also nourishes the life found in the organisms reaching up to the degree which men call the insects, and the whole range of earthly creatures which we may class among those designated biologically as invertebrates

All these living creatures are enlivened in their nature by the nourishing of the said luminous stream flowing into the world-parts of the materialities, and their beauty and splendour, which we may find in them, is inseparably joined with their important usefulness, with which they are set into the forming of the world of nature

Thus this whole glorious manifold world, which even today mankind has not been able to recognise and to map in its whole breadth, is enlivened and driven forward by the basic principles of animistic life, which in its irresistibility joins itself with the earthly forms belonging to the independently working smallest creatures

In these creatures this power works as an enlivening impulse which drives them forward in an unceasing pressure that leaves them no other course than to work in the fulfilment of their mission, which lies always in the well-defined species-nature of that particular shape, form and endowment with which it united itself

Whether these creatures work singly in a certain independence connected with the fulfilling of the mission of their species, or whether they work in wholes which we call group creatures, always the basic movement forward in the striving of these creatures draws its wisdom, often called an invisible intelligence, from the source of the said ocean, of the life spreading out upon the lowest plane of the gardens of Asgard

Everyone who reflects even a little upon the said connections surely asks how the immersing of this universal power into the little bodies of the countless multitudes of miniature creatures comes about

Of this there will of course yet be spoken separately and more fully, for now we describe only the basic sketch of the pictures

We may perceive it thus, that this power circles in its constant renewal, present in a certain animistic enveloping of the earthly world

It is always permanently at disposal in sufficient measure, and there will never be a lack of it

Precisely this, that there should always be enough of this basic power for the enlivening of all creatures, is the work of the service of the noble Aesir, who in the gardens of Asgard care for the reservoir of the ocean of this milkily radiant living power

This power unites itself with matter and works within it for the fulfilment of its mission

At the very beginning of the arising of the materialities the first wave of these streams joined itself into the quarks, atoms and molecules of the elements, out of which the rocks were formed

In the atoms of these various substances it remains permanently in its original state, and under the working of the other agents, in obedient following of the commands of the servants Hermetes and Hathmes, it leads gradually to weathering and to ageing

Thereby there comes about in part the process of the fructifying of the earthly world, and at the same time there comes the loss of a certain youth in which the rocks were formed at their beginning

The power thus immersed and laid down begins after a certain time also to call for its release and for renewal, which gathers itself in a demanding release and thus for the renewal of the universe

This cycle will lawfully come about once, after the complete exhausting of the energy laid down in the materialities, into which it was brought at the very beginning of the universe out of the gardens of Asgard

Beside this power, more firmly anchored in the atoms, molecules and elements of matter, there is here also a part of the same power which, however, joins itself with the forms of already developed organisms in matter

Through the molecules it brings enlivening to the plants, which however need for their specific development, which lies in the glorious mission of the plants, the further joining of the conscious working of the animistic species, which is to be found at a higher degree and of which there will yet be spoken later

Then we have here the actual life of the small organisms, to which there joins itself the omnipresent power of the unconsciously animistic vibration, which unites itself with the tiny creatures for their enlivening

This power suffices to enliven in a single moment the endless multitudes of creatures found in the whole insect world on Earth

The joining bridge for the enlivening of these creatures is a certain developmental degree of radiation which forms the clusters of cells that are formed for the following of the prototype of the species which we here on Earth recognise as the genetic foundation

We may speak figuratively of the temperature which the matter formed out of clusters of cells needs for its union, in which cells themselves there is after all also already a part of the basic radiation of the animistic species

Everything is therefore connected with radiation, or with vibrancy, or otherwise with temperature, which is reflected in every degree of development

Thus at its degree of radiation, which corresponds to the maturity of the development of the cellular system, there pours into the formed shape of the little body of the creature a greater content of the enlivening power out of that reservoir which is to be found everywhere around, filling the space at the animistic degree, and thereby makes it ready for the actual life

Up to a certain degree it still slumbers and ripens, in order that thereafter, in full maturity, the creature may spring forth and begin to work in the full worth of its task

The creature is driven in this its task to the fulfilment of service, for the animistic within it, despite its unconsciousness, always only serves the higher whole

Although the creature fulfils all this entirely unconsciously, through the power contained within it which enlivens it, it serves some purpose for which it arose, and thereby it serves in the sequence at last that highest whole

It seeks after food, it builds often even very intricate works of its activity, and at the same time it seeks the summit of fulfilment for the preservation of its kind in that at a certain time it is driven by the principle of the noble handmaiden of Valhalla, Efredite, to the seeking of a counterpart

Often with this passing on of the continuation of the kind for a new generation the existence of the creature is completed, and it may then serve as a part of the further course of life in nature in the form of food for other creatures, or as an agent according to the need of the conscious animistic servants, whom we may recognise as the forest sprites working in the soil of the earth and above it

After the ending of the life of such a creature the animistic power separates itself at once, without delay, from the deadened earthly shell, in order to merge with the reservoir, and immediately thereafter it is thus made ready for a new enlivening there, where the maturity of a new earthly shell calls for union with this all-embracing power working in the principle of the animistic enlivening of matter

Always after a certain time this power joins itself in the several parts of the universe into clusters which call for enlivening, and these, like a floating nebula, are borne upwards along the connecting ways, in order, having returned into the ocean, to immerse themselves into the complete wholeness of the unconscious vibration, for the gaining of refreshment and of new radiance, which is thereafter again made ready for use

This glorious cycle of powers is a part of what we may call, from afar, the renewing of radiance in the ocean of animistic wisdom of a certain degree, whereby the released nebulae floating up out of the materialities ascend upwards, for they no longer have the needful power for further working, and here, in the ocean, they meet the enlivening inflow of blessing descending from above out of the heights of Valhalla

Of wisdom we may always speak with certainty, for even the smallest creature on Earth, in which there is but a particle of the power of the said animistic principle, is fully obedient to the fulfilment of its mission

It has no need to reflect upon its fulfilment of service and to meditate upon it, for the power contained within it is ready for the fulfilment, it bears within itself all that is needful for this fulfilment, and it also always brings it to realisation in accordance with the enlivened species and form with which it united itself wholly, down to the last particle

It is all one whether it is joined with the earthly shell of an ant, a bee, a fly, a beetle, a snail, a butterfly, or only of cellular size, of a yeast, a bacterium or a mould, working in its own place in its mission, it always fulfils its task exactly

This in itself already confirms that of which we spoke above, and is a confirmation of the fact that this kind of power of the animistic principle, though it is called unconscious, cannot at the same time be called unwise

On the contrary, it is precisely earthly men devoting themselves to nature who very often marvel at the unswerving certainty and matter-of-courseness with which this kind of animistic power manifests itself in its mission in matter on Earth

And there is indeed much more which men have not yet discovered in the work of this principle, and thereby they remain behind a kind of glass wall as stiff observers, instead of being with these powers of animistic manifestation in close harmony and co-operation

If men at last once wish to move further towards a true knowledge of the world, then the only direction in which they now need to set out is the direction leading above the matter of this world

Progress towards a finer perceiving of the world which spreads out around earthman is now the demanded degree of the further development of human knowledge

And precisely for this there is in the gardens of Asgard an inexhaustible stream of knowledge which may open the eyes of men, so that they may comprehend that the place in which they find themselves is a place of the living weaving of great, glorious and unshakable powers, faithfully fulfilling the course of development which is given from the beginning by the incomprehensible greatness of the Will of God, which is from the beginning the starting-point for all the parts of the glorious Work of Creation

Today we have described in detail only that lowest part of the gardens of Asgard and of the powers flowing out of it into the materialities

There lies before us still much more and a far more glorious promise in the prospect, for with every ascent higher there will open a new prospect and a new knowledge

Earthman needs to walk through all these gardens of knowledge only with open eyes, he needs to engage a certain part of living spiritual longing to recognise and to penetrate into the whole of the Work in which he finds himself, of that Work which for all its inhabitants, and therefore also for himself, is a true, glorious Dome of God
