Phermos too has his planet in the vicinity of the Earth
The cosmic body which provides the anchorage of the radiation of this High animistic servant in the material universe here is known to men today rather under the name of Mercury
However established this name may be, and however long mankind may still cling to it, in the future this planet will receive the name which in reality rightly belongs to it – Phermos
Phermos is a peculiar servant of Valhalla and has within himself a part of the radiation of O-dio-nar and at the same time also bears within himself a ray of the primordially created Mercury
The men of earlier times perceived the radiation coming to the materialities from the heights of Creation more sensitively, and thereby there came to them, through Phermos, who often draws near to the Earth with tidings about the further development for the animistic servants and for mankind, also that perceiving of the ray of Mercury, which worked upon them with a powerful impression
In the end, in the divining of the many wrongly understood species of radiation already mentioned, which are to be found in the nature of Phermos, they began to call the planet Mercury, who withal stands high above Phermos himself
The said planet, however, belongs wholly to the radiation of Phermos, because he always calls in at these places whenever he draws near to the Earth
At that time his planet also shines with a peculiar light and is more brightly visible in the sky even through the strong light of the solar disc of Apollo, to which precisely the planet of Phermos is the nearest
This planet finds itself in the vicinity of Apollo because the greatest number of tidings concerning the cosmic happenings which are in some way to influence the human generation upon the Earth are brought by Phermos precisely to Apollo
Apollo thereupon radiates in his consuming light to the Earth and to the men dwelling upon it those fulfilments which he received out of the commission of O-dio-nar and which Phermos, sent forth by Valhalla for this purpose, brings to him
This knowledge is unknown to men, and therefore in their conclusions they lightly supposed that they could judge the task of the planet of Phermos according to themselves
It is, however, a great error, and this too men will come to know, for precisely the material body of Phermos now radiates towards Apollo a glow which calls forth revolutionary changes in the solar disc
It was precisely a message of Phermos which not long ago was brought by the comet that plunged into the Sun during its passage through the solar system
The impulse which this called forth did not manifest at once, but there is taking place a gradual transformation of the solar radiation, which will become ever more perceptible to men
Beneath this transformed radiation of the solar disc there comes about a quickening of much animistic weaving also here upon the Earth
It will now come to the surface ever more strongly beneath a seemingly invisible pressure, even as the Light of the Judgment draws near in the Ray of Parzival
Men connect the planet of Phermos above all with trade, and thus this small planet became a symbol concerning success or failure in trade
The abilities and the gifts for trading are sometimes ascribed by men to him who is born upon the Earth with the planet of Phermos in a strong place in his horoscope
The reality, however, is otherwise
Phermos has nothing in common with trading, and with that which is today predominantly carried on upon the Earth he has nothing whatever in common
The bond of his planet with trade arose in the ancient times of the Egyptian empire and also in the time of the Babylonian empire, when merchants concluded among themselves very great royal transactions through the mediation of their envoys
Rich merchants and rulers often made use of their servants, because they themselves feared to travel over great distances and often through dangerous territories, where assault and not seldom also death easily threatened
It was a matter of course that for these affairs trustworthy intermediaries were chosen, who as envoys had from their masters the commission for the transacting of the trades
The intermediaries then travelled for a long time for the concluding of a trade as the lawful representatives of powerful magnates, because it lay in their hands to conclude agreements even in distant lands
After every such concluding of a trade a messenger was also always sent forth who bore swift tidings of the course and of the result of the negotiations, or who was to bring back from the owners the answers to any ambiguities and questions that had arisen around the trade
And precisely for these messengers, who upon their far journeys in haste with the tidings were often exposed to hard conditions, Phermos himself often had understanding, if he was at that time in the vicinity of the earthly world
He protected all pure and faithful messengers and often accompanied them directly for the duration of their journey, for he was greatly gladdened that here upon the Earth too the same service is exercised as he has in his animistic mission
And precisely in the course of the millennia the said merchants observed that when there was a peculiar brightness in the vicinity of the messengers, the tidings were delivered in time and also had a peculiarly favourable content about the result of the negotiations of the intermediaries in far lands
The wise and knowledgeable star-gazers of these ancient peoples also gradually recognised that at the time when a small star steps forth out of the brightness of the Sun and then shines for a short time in the sky, it is best to receive and to send forth agreements, which thereafter bring blessing for both sides
Thereby it gradually became established that it is best to conclude agreements about trade when the star of Phermos stands in the sky in a certain bright position
Here let us make but a short digression for the clarifying of one great question mark of many men
It concerns the messenger who millennia ago was sent forth by prince Ebranit to Abdrushin and his court with tidings in which a great threat to the life of prince Abdrushin himself was made known
The fallen archangel Lucifer, knowing well the conditions in the helps of the animistic servants faithfully serving the Light, suggested to the pharaoh the thought of vengeance upon Abdrushin precisely at the time when the planet of Phermos stood in the least favourable position
When prince Ebranit therefore sent forth his messenger, Phermos was not near the Earth, for he was just then carrying tidings between Mercury and O-dio-nar, while in the animistic happenings great upheavals over the Egyptian empire were being made ready for the sake of the liberation of the small people of the Israelites under the leadership of Moses
And yet, when the messenger with the important tidings was sent forth by Ebranit, the servant Phermos himself caught these tidings even high and far above the universe here
At once he set out from the heights towards the Earth, in order to accompany and to protect this messenger, but the threads of the setting of his planet did not permit him to draw near to the rider and to protect him directly with his helping radiation
Thus then the rider who was to bring the message met upon his way the envoy of the pharaoh who was to carry out the dreadful deed upon prince Abdrushin
Instead of swiftly continuing, he decided unexpectedly and without plan to halt the dark rider himself, but he underestimated the strength and the skill of his adversary and after a short combat he succumbed to his swift arm with the dagger and fell
Phermos could only follow from afar the happening which took place in a picture before his eyes
He rushed forward, in order himself to warn the guards in the camp spread around the tent of prince Abdrushin, but he was surprised that his calling to them sounded as though he had been deprived of his voice
What this was he himself did not know, he did not recognise what power was working here and making it impossible to touch the inner being of at least one of those present in the spacious tent camp and to rouse him to attention
And then there came again the moment in which his gaze helplessly followed the happening which called forth in him an inward struggle and a deep question, whether that which was taking place stood against the will of the Light, or whether it was foreseen beforehand by the Light itself
Confused, Phermos turned away from the Earth and, filled with the question, he returned to his further tasks
Only when he again abode at the feet of Mercury was everything made clear to him, and he drew power anew out of the full acceptance of the greatness and the omnipotence of the working of the Father of all
Filled with new power he thereupon the better fulfilled his task, which was appointed to him in the carrying of messages for the animistic servants who took part in the plagues upon the Egypt of the pharaoh
Thus, if we now return back to our tale about the own planet of Phermos, we may recognise how the position of the planets and of the stars can have a great influence upon many events among men
In earlier times that position of the stars was for the conduct of men always important in their deciding
It was not as it is today explained by scientific findings, that it is a question only of superstitions and of chance events when this or that succeeds in accord with the presupposition of the stars
The men of more ancient days knew that power and efficacy of the radiations which the stars and the planets bring to the earth as strengthening courses either of a certain kind of blessing, or on the contrary of the power of restraining influences
And precisely in trading a good and favourable position of the stars was in ancient times taken into account almost as a matter of course
With the working of the small planet beside the Sun there was then connected a radiation which became established as the radiation helping all good tidings and especially good tidings about the concluding of a trade
To this the sensitive men then added their conviction that the glow which descends in the night sky to the Earth from this small planet is bound up with a special blessing, behind which there vibrated the great name of Mercury
That this radiation of the primordially created Mercury is laid into Phermos himself only in part, as a small portion, no one among men investigated further
The concept became established and no one occupied himself with it further, because men had thereby for once explained that the small planet is bound up with the blessing of the concluding of trade, and that behind this blessing there stands a special radiation of which sensitive men speak as of the radiation of the mighty Mercury working on high
With this there easily joined itself the explanation which spoke of the rule that for a good trade it is needful to have on one's side the radiation of Mercury, who is the patron holding a protecting hand over the good contracts of the merchants
All this was but a small step from the beginning of the thoughtless veneration of that especially important god who brought to the peoples of that time success in the concluding of trade
Thus not only merchants but also kings and other rulers began to venerate this god, who was to hold the blessing over their designs in the trades and exchanges of gold, of precious stones and of many other treasures of the lands
After the merchants, the kings and the rulers, ordinary men too began to imitate this veneration, because they also wished to have the blessing on their side in any trade whatsoever, even were it only the exchange of a hen for a basket of grain
Out of the small shining star there became, in the times of the Babylonian empire, a much acknowledged helper in the concluding of any trade whatsoever
After the Babylonians and Egypt it was taken over by the Persians, the Greeks, the Etruscans and finally also by the Romans, who took over into their cult always those gods most readily acknowledged by the intellect, who were to bring them strength, power and success in the concrete affairs of the enlarging of the empire
Thereby Mercury became known as the god of trade and at the same time he was depicted as a radiant youth with winged sandals, while Phermos, who was the real bearer of the protection of all messengers and of all men carrying tidings about concluded agreements, became wholly secondary and no one spoke of him any more
Whenever in the vicinity of travellers and of trading caravans there appeared the glow of a fair-haired youth with a satchel over his shoulder, then all at once cried out that they had perceived, or had even beheld, Mercury in their nearness
Withal, if Mercury himself ever appeared to them in his primordially created power and greatness, then fear would fall upon them and they would hide their heads, for the radiance of this one of the four most highly working guardians of the Grail would wholly overpower them, and they would tremble before his mighty power with which, under the dominion of Parzival, he directs the streaming of the forces of everything animistic in the work of Creation
The small planet Earth also, circling in the vicinity of the solar disc of Apollo, would threaten to burst asunder if the full power of Mercury drew near to it, in which he vibrates in the halls of the Grail in his service to Parzival
It will yet last some time before men accept the knowledge of the real happenings in the work of Creation
It will also yet last some time before they are ripe for calling the cosmic body which they now call Mercury by a new name: the planet of Phermos
When this one day comes to pass, then the animistic youth Phermos will also with still greater joy draw near to the Earth, in order to accompany all wayfarers who will here be moving from city to city or from one land to another
There will then also become established the greeting: “May Phermos accompany you”, as the expression of the wish for the best and the safest journey with the delivery of good tidings
In the case of good tidings there will also be spoken of “the messages of Phermos”, which men will learn from others
And in all this the helping guide for men will be that small shining planet in the vicinity of the Sun
Its position will be perceived by men as confirming a good journey and good agreements, when it stands in certain places in the sky
At that moment too its radiating will be the most suitable for such affairs
The radiation descending to the Earth will be that which intensifies all upright and honourable agreements and contracts among men
Agreements and contracts concluded in the time of the right radiation of the planet of Phermos will be taken as inviolable, even were they to last whole ages
There will be no volition among men to break such contracts and agreements, for men will know that they would thereby turn away from themselves all further blessing of the youth with the winged sandals, and then no one would any longer wish to conclude any further agreement with them
It will be a support for many men, for Phermos will be one of the several high animistic servants who will appear to many men in the most varied material forms
His nearness will always bring joy and the consciousness of blessing, which brings good prospects into the times to come
Such will be the perceiving among men, that everything will become more translucent and also to a certain degree more fairy-like than it is today, when the earthly intellect grips everything within its narrow bounds and mocks at everything higher in the delusion that it knows best and that all else is only useless fables
The earthly intellect, however, is already now working upon its own self-destruction, for it is the Will of God, that before the complete transformation of life upon the Earth it should utterly discredit itself in that, under the pressure of the Light in the Ray of Parzival, it will itself destroy all that it has hitherto laboriously built
It will become a heavy experiencing for all who until now have firmly believed in the intellect and have supposed that it is the highest that man could attain in his earthly elaboration of seeming knowledge about the world
There will remain a bitter taste of wormwood bringing the awakening of yet not many men, who only in the time of the most senseless dealings of the intellect will recognise that it is not the bearer of wisdom, but is only an instrument connecting the gained findings about the world of matter
Wisdom was never in the intellect, for wisdom springs from the knowledge of the Truth, which, however, comes from places whence the intellect will never be able to draw anything for its conclusions about the world
Only the spirit may draw the wisdom of the knowledge about the whole work of Creation and also about the Creator Himself
Also the knowledge about all the exalted High animistic servants who come from time to time to the Earth and bring their blessing
And precisely Phermos is one of them, and through the planet which is nearest to the Sun he works into the universe here in his manner of helping men
It is needful for us to learn to perceive the animistic working around us
Then we shall again have the true knowledge and we shall be able to draw blessing out of the co-operation with these glorious servants of Valhalla
