The blessedness of being

The blessed happiness of unending being in the light-filled spiritual planes

So much has already been said about it, and is still said today among those who consider themselves connoisseurs of the spiritual worlds

But when a person listening to these mentioned connoisseurs goes deeper in order to understand what is being said, he discovers that for the most part only what was written somewhere long ago is repeated over and over again

Only rarely does something truly appear which would testify to a direct connection

That signifies everything possible except that the knowledge of the spiritual worlds is really their own in people who call themselves spiritual

If men had really come to know the spiritual planes, as they so often speak of them, then they would have to change completely from the very foundation in their earthly life too

Their inner attunement would have to be made luminous once and for all by a strong experiencing from the spiritual worlds, to such a state that they would never again in their earthly life prefer the material to the spiritual as easily as they do

So deeply would there be inscribed into their inner being the real experience of finding themselves in spiritual existence, which is entirely of another nature from everything else that we find in the planes of the materialities of the beyond in the Subsequent Creation

The knowledge of the planes of the spirit would also already have been carried much further, which could be a help for all those who hitherto doubt all life above this gross materiality

It is therefore a great task for the coming time on Earth that the knowledge of the spiritual planes should spread more widely and thereby become a natural part of the human perceiving of life

Knowledge of the spiritual planes is always bound up with a presentiment of beauty and of perfect harmony

Out of this there forms for man an inward presentiment of blessedness

And so it also is, for the human spiritual spark arose to its first consciousness within sight of that mentioned blessedness of the planes of Light

That blessedness, however, is not without content, it does not come about of itself without one's own doing, but is filled with the liveliest movement in experiencing

On the spiritual plane this experiencing is bound up with abilities of the spiritual consciousness hitherto unknown

Conscious being is the most important thing which in the spiritual planes has a share in the experiencing of that mentioned state of blessedness

It is not merely a matter of the awareness of oneself, as is supposed in connection with the hitherto knowledge of the development of the human spiritual spark, but it is a matter of a consciousness embracing one's own full consciousness in union with the consciousness of everything else that is to be found in the Light

It may be called an all-embracing consciousness, in which that consciousness of oneself is interconnected with the consciousness of all the life around

Thereby there may blaze in the spirit the experiencing of a whole Harmony, crowned by an unceasing common thanks to the Creator, Who made it possible for all this to arise to life, which is called precisely that highest blessedness

The spiritual consciousness may penetrate into everything and unite itself with everything in a repeated experiencing of the praise of the perfection of God which it finds in it again and again

There is nothing which does not contain within itself the perfection of the worlds formed out of the Light

Thereby it is possible to speak of an experiencing of harmony of the strongest degree which the human spiritual consciousness is able to attain

The spirit may have a share in everything that appears to his conscious experiencing as the most ideal fulfilment of being

His multi-consciousness enables him to take part in many events at the same time

Out of this there may then be composed an ever more fulfilled knowledge of the Love of God, which is to be found in the spiritual planes, undulating in the form of an omnipresent and all-penetrating radiant Light

Upon everything there is reflected the delicately golden lustre of the blessing of God

Thereby the colours and shapes are made luminous to a degree of radiance entirely unknown to earthly human eyes

The colours are living and are joined with the shapes and forms of everything into a whole which again forms only a perfect harmony without a single flicker of deficiency

The forms and shapes of all that exists in the planes of Light may likewise be called an embodiment of a harmony unknown on Earth

All this penetrates into the depth of the spirit and calls forth a lasting perception of fulfilling happiness

The fully mature self-conscious spirit may perceive and experience this within himself and at the same time may share in the joy and happiness of everything around him

He perceives intuitively and fully experiences the high meaning of this interconnection as the highest mission of the spiritual kind, of which he is a part and in which a portion of God's intention of conscious life in the work of Creation is thus fulfilled

In every moment of being he experiences that it was precisely for this purpose that the work of Creation was made out of the Will of God, and that through the radiating of the creating Love

The conscious spirit for ever has a share in the happiness-filled vibration of the great Harmony of the work of Creation

With the abilities of his consciousness he moves in all directions, penetrates everything, and out of everything he may absorb into himself the tale of the perfection of God

He has a share in everything that attracts him and calls him to co-operate in the forming and the supporting of the new undulation of the Harmony which comes about through the flowing of the Power of God in Creation

He has a share in this Power, he may receive it and in enthusiasm he radiates it further, enriched by his conscious volition for the continuance of the Harmony

If he longs for it, he may have a share in much of the development of the work of Creation, for the Power of God makes possible an unceasing movement in all directions of Life

Creation undulates and thereby moves, yet at the same time in its perfection it remains permanently the same

This is given by the limpidity of the kind of Light out of which the Primordial spiritual part arose to being

Everything is wrought in the highest degree of perfection, and at the same time everything moves fluently in the most creative activity

It may be called a state of which the earthly comprehension of men has as yet no conception

This state is something most natural and has a share in the all-comprehensive perceiving of blessedness

The interpenetration of the consciousness of the spirits dwelling there with the place of their luminous home is the highest degree of the experiencing of participation in the Harmony, and thereby brings the state of the blessedness of being

In this interpenetration there is a constant flowing through happenings, which however cannot be called development, for everything is permanently and at once perfect at every degree of the present

It is therefore not even in part such a building up as the earthly world knows, in which development not seldom takes the paths of erring, out of which the knowledge of experience is only then formed

It is a flowing of perfection into a new consonance of forms, colours and tones, in which every single particle is at every moment complete in itself

And in this the spirit may experience his conscious participation in union with everything else

Everything happens with the highest receptivity of the whole, with all the life to be found within it

It is formed as a living prayer in which the spirits and beings of each plane of Light rejoice in the highest awareness at the possibility of being permitted to be a part of the whole of the Harmony

They are aware that they may be a part of the perfect Harmony

In their self-consciousness they are independent, and yet they are an inseparable part of the whole

They are themselves and also everything else, sharing in the whole through the ability of experiencing

The inhabitants there are fully conscious of themselves

They are aware of the richness of the consciousness they have acquired

If, however, they long for it, they may perceive everything around them as though it were a part of their own consciousness

They interpenetrate with their surroundings and may have a share in the Harmony contained within them

Everything around them, even the smallest form of beauty, bears within itself fairy-tale glorious pictures of its arising and of its continuance, with which they may be connected through their conscious participation, if they wish to perceive it so at the given moment

Every flower, every leaf or drop of dew trembling upon it, every structure, every detail of the space is in itself a story and a great book of wisdom telling of the perfect Light of God out of which everything was permitted to take form

And every single story is again interlinked with the others into an endless band of whispering words of joyful jubilation, or of deep seriousness, according to the direction in which the consciousness of the spirit longs to go

In everything there is contained a song glorifying the perfection which comes from the inexhaustible essence of the Principle of Life resting in the unsubstantiality of God the Father

In the dimension of the spiritual kind the experienced consciousness is perceived as unbounded

It always offers the possibility of new knowledge in penetrating into the essence of all events

And in addition there is the unlimitedness of what men on Earth call time

Time in the spiritual worlds is not that which men know in the materialities

As has already been mentioned, it is possible to go in all directions

Forward along the paths of development, and also back as far as the spirit is able to reach with his consciousness

All this can also happen within the compass of a single moment of the present, without thereby causing any obscurity or confusion in the conscious experiencing of everything at once

If the spirit needs it, it is possible, in the longing to recall something past, to penetrate further into earlier events, which are again at once perceived as the present

It is also possible under certain conditions to gain a vision of something future, and that regardless of distance, that is, in the direction of infinity, provided only that the consciousness of the spirit can bear the power contained in this event

This future too becomes a present which may be fully experienced with the whole participation of the spirit

The conscious spirit thereby remains in the wholeness of his comprehension and, out of the experiencing of all the connections, can again only extol the perfection contained in the laws which, formed out of the Will of God, make such a thing possible

In the spiritual part of the work of Creation, in its perfect ordering, everything stands still or flows at once in the direction which is willed by the spirit

There is here no uniform driving force of development such as manifests itself in the kind of development contained in the Subsequent Creation

Development, dissolution and the necessity of the changing of forms bound up with it, which forms the impression of a shifting of time only in a forward direction, is to be found only further downwards, from the planes of the oceans of the unconsciously animistic in the gardens of Asgard, where in the merging of the radiation of the unconsciously animistic a development from the weaker to the stronger is found for the first time, and thereby a presentiment of direction in the flowing appears for the first time

This development then repeats itself further, above all in all the planes of the materialities in the Subsequent Creation, where through the glowing through of animistic radiation there comes about always only a temporary maturity, imperfect in comparison with the Primordial Creation, which in the urgency of repeated refreshing is subject to the necessity of a constant renewal

The concept of time in the spiritual planes is so much of another nature from the material part of the Subsequent Creation that a whole separate discourse will yet be devoted to it

Here at this moment it is fitting only to mention that precisely that difference in the understanding of the concept of the present, however much this present may at the same time shift in all directions, is a part of the fulfilling state of blessedness which is constantly experienced by the inhabitants of the Primordial Creation

The limpidity of the planes of the spiritual kind enables the inhabitants there to have experiences which entirely elude the comprehension by which man is bound through his day consciousness

Only here and there can a reflection come in dreams which are, however, in no way marked by the flickerings of the activity of the thinking brain

It must be added here that the mentioned abilities are used by mature spirits not for superficial interest, that is, as one would say here on Earth, for the satisfaction of a craving for sensation, but there is always in it a certain noble meaning and thereby also the necessary seriousness

Of course the inhabitants of the spiritual worlds sometimes direct themselves back into the past in order to recall in it some of their experiences which in some direction moved them significantly further, or in which there dwells for them some kind of joy that inscribed itself into their path of development

All the earthly ways of capturing the past, whether by narration, in written form, or also by film, are only distant imitations of the abilities of the spiritual kind in the regions of eternal blessedness

Nothing can replace that immediacy of experiencing which comes to the spirit as soon as he, in the full maturity of his consciousness, longs to find a place in the work of Creation exactly such as it was captured in wide connections within the weaving of the threads of Truth

These threads of Truth always contain within themselves the All-Wisdom of God and the form laid within it, which is manifold according to how the spirit longs to appear at the given place and what his inner being just then needs to experience through its participation in the perceived present

Only with great difficulty can one describe possibilities of events which entirely elude the boundaries of this gross material universe and of man's comprehension bound up with it

To this it is always necessary above all to add the state of blessedness, which is present with everything in the luminous planes and manifests itself omnipresently in that the spiritual inhabitants may draw from it ever new enlightenment and thereby a new advance of their consciousness

How poor there appears in this light the stumbling, bitterly hard striving in which the human spirit, bound by the narrow barriers of thinking of the material kind, endeavours to receive and to understand something

It is something incomparable how precisely lightness and a childlike simple ease are to be found in all the experiencing in the Primordial Creation

The realisation of this should be a reason for an immense impetus to the spiritual inner being in man, that he may as soon as possible reach those blessed places with all that is to be found in them for his spirit, like glorious gifts

Men dwelling on Earth should bear within themselves a wholly open perceiving for all the glory which is a part of the planes of their spiritual home

If it were so, man would never in his life on Earth do anything of that which holds him back even a little from attaining the full state of blessedness which awaits him in all the moments of being in Paradise

On the contrary, he would subordinate all his conduct to this, that in his threads of fate there might be the most direct possible setting of the path upwards to the Light

Thereby, automatically through him, more noble purity would also reach this gross material Earth, which in the end would bring benefit to all men

The restoration of the blessed ascending cycle of the spiritual sparks would begin, as it was always meant to be

Among other things, in their own gross material life men would also be permitted to experience events which, however natural they might be, would at first appear as miraculous manifestations of the Grace of God

By the simple path of enthusiastic human striving to attain the spiritual home there would come about, as a natural consequence of it, that longed-for time of the Kingdom of God on Earth
