Everyone who has ever attentively watched the flight of birds through the air surely could not fail to notice how, in order for the birds to keep themselves aloft, they need again and again to move their wings briskly
Wings used in the highest mobility are the condition of flight for all those birds which long to rise and also to hold themselves further in the air
It is the element of air with its gaseous substance that demands of all flying creatures that they give out their strength continually in such sufficiency that after all they may lean upon the otherwise evident permeability of the air and climb high upward
And just as it is with mobility in the case of all creatures in nature, exactly so shall it be in the future in the case of the life of men on earth
Man on earth is to become permanently mobile, in order to shape and also to maintain his standing in society
Only the mobility of the spirit is to become the letter of passage for a blessed life on earth
The mobility of the spirit alone is to show itself as the confirmation that he advances rightly upward not only spiritually, but here on earth socially as well
Everything else will prove insufficient for man to ascend upward
No other kind of movement will suffice for man on earth to become socially trustworthy in the eyes of others
Therefore it will be needful in the coming time that everyone expend continual effort of spiritual movement through alertly intuitive action, for only thereby will his sound ability to be a fully valid participant in the world of men be proved
Movement which brings benefit to all harmonious life on earth and is bound up with a high spiritual goal will be the confirmation of the true social worth of man
It is the demand of the Law of Movement, which bears within it the grace of lasting health for all life in Creation
And it is the hitherto customary use of money among men that has become a brake upon this healthy movement
Everyone can see it, if only he wishes to see it
For this reason money will become something that, for the approaching time of life on earth in the newly coming period of greater value for development, will be outlived, and thus as an instrument wholly unsuited to the upholding of the Law of Giving and Taking
For a certain time at the very beginning of its use in ancient days money may perhaps have served something good in the endeavour of men to capture through it the worth of things and of their own activity, but in the end all this became one of the greatest obstacles to the expression of the worth of the spiritual degree of maturity, and thereby of the true preciousness of man
Even though it may appear otherwise to those men who still today believe in the mental construct that it is money which even now keeps mankind in the necessary movement, it is exactly the reverse
Money has become an obstacle grossly retarding the true unfolding of mankind on earth
We are already near the point where men will grasp that something so ponderous as the attempt to fix in material anchorage the living movement of man's spiritual vibration by means of money can have no further place on earth
Money has not become that which confirms the spiritual mobility of men, but is in reality an intermediate layer long since formed by the intellect, which wholly distorts for man that so important expression of his own spiritual state and of the needful shaping of conditions for life here on earth
Originally there was never to be any difference in this, not even here on earth
Yet gradually the earthly world tore itself away from all else in Creation, and in the end necessarily had to depart from that state in which earthly conditions of social life would faithfully mirror the inner spiritual worth of every single human being
It came to entirely opposite forms, where it often holds true that money expresses only the work of the cold intellect, but never the worth of the spirit
Only seldom do we find accord in this
It is still today something well-nigh certain that men socially highly placed, who attain this very position by means of money, are deeply asleep in spirit, while conversely men who, measured by money, appear earthly unknown are beheld from the Light as those who are spiritually of the highest worth
All this is permitted by a condition which, on account of the distortion prevailing in the use of money, shapes social circumstances entirely at variance with the spiritual worth of men
We can see it in many places in countless forms
Often those who are for others the greatest givers of pure intuitive perception in the care of their fellow-men, or in the upbringing of small or older children, likewise those who stake their health and their lives in striving for the safety of others, are the very ones who by money, and therefore by today's social standing also, will never be valued as this for the greatest part ought to be the only right outcome
And precisely beside these men we find those who are provided with money far beyond what would best benefit their spirit
The one sort of men thus lose in their social worth, for their standing does not correspond to the spiritual vibration of their fervent intuitive perception for others, while many, merely through sufficiency or even a surplus of money, wither spiritually, because their earthly standing sets its mark in capriciousness and in a bent towards manifold self-indulgent aberrations, which always leads to a dulling of the inward intuitive perception
Where money too easily secures for men sufficient provision for a comfortable life, we can very often speak of spiritual and consequently also of social decline
It may be taken as an almost certain, though unwritten rule, which calls forth the disturbance of harmony and tension among men on earth as far back as man can see into history
It goes without saying that we would also find exceptions, and to these truly belongs great recognition, if their earthly standing, built upon a sufficiency of money, has not at the same time dulled in them their spiritual alertness
Of such men, however, there are alas truly not many
For the greatest part it holds true that money today, as at any time before, prepares in men the soil for falling into the sleep of the spirit
This comes about, among other things, through the way the concepts of success and successfulness have been brought to distortion
The concept of a man's success or successfulness is to be understood quite otherwise than it is today among men on earth
From the standpoint of the Laws of Creation only that can be called success in the case of the human spirit, when he, in unfolding his inward gifts and virtues, ascends spiritually upward and advances through the planes of Subsequent Creation ever nearer to the spiritual home
That is, to the translucent places of lasting happiness, which lie in Primordial Creation itself, in the purely spiritual part of the Work of God
That alone can be called success for the human spirit
It should therefore rightly hold good in the perception of men for this gross material earthly world as well
Instead of that, however, the concept of success here is for the most part linked either with the public fame of a man who is admired by others, or further with an amount of money
Not seldom both hold true together
In both cases, however, it is in some way almost always bound up with wealth and possession
It is therefore a complete displacement in the understanding of what here on earth determines the worth of men in their social standing
It is taken for granted that those men who are gifted and capable will always in some way assert themselves in society and through money become influential, and thus to a certain degree determinative of the further development of the human world
Although especially today it no longer holds at all that the present way of using money mirrors the inner worth of men as well, it is accepted as a rule about which no one thinks more earnestly
That it is possible today to come by money in the most varied ways, thus by forms of life not honourable at all, causes in many men only very slight uneasiness
It is even held to be a mark of a certain adroitness, of a cunning dexterity admired by many in the human world, if someone obtains money by ways perhaps not entirely honourable and yet in the end contrives to enjoy it so that earthly power never reaches him throughout his whole earthly life
Of such cases there are thousands in every land, and this calls forth in more than one inwardly immature man a reason for wanting to follow such ill examples in society
Books are written and films are made about it, in which such men pass before the public as heroes towards whom undisguised admiration prevails, and in many men there then awakens the resolve to do likewise
But let us leave that aside
For our confirmation of the spiritual decline it fully suffices to look at a man who today lives in a certain sufficiency of money
There are many such men who, under this influx of earthly security, cease entirely to move spiritually and to unfold their intuitive perception, because the outward possibilities of life do not require it of them
For everything they need they can after all buy with money
Such a thing, however, does not lead to the unfolding of living encounter with other men, which is one of the chief reasons why the spirit comes to this earth
Intuitive sensing in the search for harmony with other men in all moments of life is the most precious treasure which the spirit is to discover and to learn to use
Today life on earth is not even in part understood as a portion of the path on which man is to unfold as a spiritual personality
That is possible only in continual movement in the sense of intuitive perceiving
Yet it is precisely intuitive perceiving that suffers greatly, for it is beaten down by today's struggle for monetary gain and also in the fight to hold one's standing in society
Often there comes then a complete dulling and smothering of all that is more inward in man
Kindliness is destroyed, and with it also the understanding that intuitive giving is a needful necessity for the human spirit, so that he may unfold further towards that degree of vibration which is the condition for reaching the spiritual planes of Creation
Instead of the unfolding and strengthening of the spirit in its intuitive perceiving we can see advancing paralysis, the sleep of the spirit, and the decline arising therefrom
This is because for such men it is then no longer needful that, in union with others, they strive for the upholding and also the further unfolding of the life which vibrates with them in harmony
Often it is the reverse, for such men, who have gained for themselves money enough for a decent life, as the saying goes, have no further reason to occupy themselves with anything higher, that is with what belongs to the understanding of the divine Harmony vibrating throughout the whole of Creation, let alone then to bring it to life for themselves and for others
Thereby life in the most important meaning of why the human spirit is on earth necessarily becomes stunted, and as a rule leads only to all manner of strange deviations from the true harmony which is always to be a part of the life of men on earth
It matters not whether it be prodigality, snobbery, idleness or other, yet always equally garish forms of enjoying life without a single pause to consider whether the wealth attained might serve something else, something more meaningful
These are the frequent consequences of a surfeit of money in places where all giving and taking has been carried over to the value-plane of money and possessions
Where there is more than enough money, men as a rule fall into the strangest forms of spiritual decline, in like manner as those who conversely experience a lack of money and in whom everything connected with grudging, envy and hatred is strengthened against all that in their perception appears more well-to-do and thus living in sufficiency
All this is always only a deflecting of human striving from the true path which is to unfold virtues within man, and thereby the values of the spirit
Moreover, as has already been mentioned, we leave entirely aside here from what activity the money of many men comes
Therein alone there lie as a rule many reasons to say that the way this or that man comes by money stands in complete contradiction to the shaping of harmonious life on earth
What kind of threads of fate this must necessarily bring about may be spared any further setting forth
It suffices only to say – it is a trampling of the sacred preciousness of man's inner being, when all his concentration under the oppression of the intellect is directed here on earth of set purpose and above all towards gain and the holding of possessions, in defiance of the true nature of the great Law of Giving and Taking, in which it holds that he is truly strong who gives and not he who takes
It holds true that only he draws first and foremost upon the outward gifts of Creation who is in reality still so weak within himself that he cannot receive through his inner being so much power as to be himself a giver instead
He, however, who in the wise administration of the flowing stream of powers through Creation is a giver, who has thus ranged himself rightly into the vibrations of the great Harmony, he is a rightly living, fully valid inhabitant, and to him ever more power can flow from the Divine spring of eternity
Taking is therefore, outside the earth, everywhere else in the work of Creation perceived as a certain expression of immaturity and weakness
That of which men are proud, for which they long and which keeps them from sleep for the greater part of the time of life on earth is, for all fully valid inhabitants of the work of Creation dwelling higher in the planes of Light, a sign of insufficiency, of weakness, and therefore also a reason for pity towards all such creatures
The state for which men on earth long is thus, in the degree of development, still only the inexorable proof of the undevelopedness of most men on earth towards a higher degree of being
All the schooling in how to learn to draw profit from the resources of matter is a wholly inverted principle from that towards which man born upon this earth is in reality to be directed
The tempter could have had no greater success than in multiplying among men this false principle of understanding the Law of Giving and Taking
And alas men took this bait of temporary gain and ownership on earth with a greed which in the end took even Lucifer himself by surprise
He saw how his offer took root among men and, thanks to ownership and money, only grew stronger still, bringing consequences which showed themselves as ever new devastation of matter and of the spiritual values of mankind
Instead of a development towards the Light, the striving of the greater part of men took its direction ever deeper into dense threads of fate
In Lucifer's eyes there could be no better proof before the Creator of how weak the human spiritual species is, and therefore not belonging in Creation
From the very way men literally snatched at this bait, which was in reality an ingenious test, Lucifer deduced their tendency to remain permanently weak creatures in Creation
In spite of all this, however, the Love of God sought and found ways to help the human spiritual species that was losing itself in the materialities
The way out that brings liberation is near, although it must necessarily bring with it first the collapse of the greatest part of all that has been
Therefore the approaching shattering working of the Ray of Parzival above mankind and within mankind may also be regarded as a helping influx of powers from the Light, which alone can now bring to earth the deliverance of men from all the snares in which they find themselves
And most effectively helpful in this for mankind will be the animistic servants, who now look, in all human wishes, first of all at how the volition of the human spirit sounds together with the total harmony of the work of Creation, or whether it goes against this harmony
It will therefore no longer hold how a man would wish things to serve his interests and his narrowly limited desires, but how this decision of his free will stands towards the total Harmony of the work of Creation
One long period of a certain degree of maturity of men on earth is ending, to be replaced gradually by a wholly new kind of radiation, which will first of all demand of man his spiritual mobility in intuitive perceiving
It may be called the time setting in after the close of the period of the baleful activity of the unexpectedly failed archangel Lucifer
This time of many millennia of the tempter's intervention in the course of the development of the human spiritual species in Subsequent Creation is now brought to an end by the Ray of Parzival
Its consequences, however, will still for some time discharge themselves in the living out of much wrong striving, in like manner as the tension gathered in an electrical circuit needs to be worked off before the circuit can then be repaired and strengthened for another degree of voltage, which by its power and its immediacy would burn up all that went before
Because for the animistic weaving of new threads of fate room is needed for the living out of all the hitherto gathered kind of radiation in the threads of fate of mankind, earthly frames of time can hardly be joined with it
The living out may thus come to pass more slowly, with accompanying happenings of a dramatic kind in the working off of the threads of fate, or there may also work in it the voluntary betterment of men, whereby many of the original heavy manifestations may then close symbolically, only as a needful echo of the past
Under no circumstances, however, will it be centuries any longer, nor even further long decades, before this change of the new streaming of powers shows itself, but for the dying away and the subsequent adapting to the new period of development there will most probably be granted a time of the order of single earthly years
First all must die away, so that it may at the same time be replaced, in the gross material world itself, by the newly coming period of development which in the finer worlds already stands close above this earth
Thus works all that is animistic, which has been called to the fulfilment of the promise in the plane of gross matter itself
Under the continual influx of the Ray of Parzival it drives forward, to bring at last a becoming luminous and a release in the threads, till now fearfully taut, woven from the doings of men in past centuries and millennia
And money itself, as a concept which has long since outlived the temporary significance it held among men, will at a certain time become wholly obsolete
It will cease to have among men its former worth, for the ground of men's standing in society, and thereby of all that is bound up with it, will be derived more livingly from each single day of a man's life
No one will be able to live permanently on former merits without striving again and again to be for others a giver, spiritually and in a certain sense earthly also, out of his own kind of radiation of kindliness and wisdom
Everything else will move behind these values of human life, which will become for all else the determining prototype of pure humanity
And everyone will need to strive in this, otherwise he will be blown to the edge of all social life, for with every wavering the helps of both spiritual and animistic kind will swiftly flow away from him
This will then in some form show itself outwardly, quite visibly for other men, who will be able to recognise in it that permanently heightened power of the Ray of Parzival, working thus in the fates of all men on earth
The former ways, in which money could in part help men to retard these workings of fate, or even outwardly in the society of men to annul them entirely by buying oneself free, will be a thing of the past
At the same time all the claims which are today asserted among men on the ground of the greater cunning of some over others will, instead of the former repute of successfulness, become a burden and will be held a reason for the sharp rejection of such a thing as the inflicting of harm upon one another for the sake of gain, which still survives among men
The swamps spread over the earth by the tempter, in which hosts of those who are easily wounded still sink, will be dried up by the Ray of Parzival
Aching wounds will be healed, so that in their place, together with the healing, the power of the Light may pour upon this earth, bringing to inwardly open, pure men the promise of strengthening, if of their own free will they step out upon the path of ascent
And because mankind in the coming time will move further in its enlightenment, such conduct in which the concentration upon taking burns vividly in the first place in a man, instead of his occupying himself with how to give to others wisely and responsibly, will be held for a mark of a certain backwardness of soul in man
Till now no one has considered such a thing, that backwardness of soul might also be a part of a man's social standing
Yet it is already near that, in defiance of all the former settings of the thinking of men on earth, this will become a consistently working condition for everyone who is born upon this earth
Life is driven forward by the great Law of Necessary Movement
And because the inner spiritual mobility of man will become a magnitude which in the effects of the Laws of Creation will at last be a visible manifestation here on earth also, it will lead to an entirely new approach to the life of every single human being
Therein lies a hitherto unseen measure of the Loving-Kindness of God, because it will at last bring among men on earth peace, joyful striving for ascent, and the unfolding of all fields of human activity, which only then will be able to bring forth the blessings contained within them, whose beneficence has till now been for the greatest part swallowed up by money
But all this must of course be perceived as a gradual unfolding of a happening which only in its first working is now coming to the earth
For everyone there will thus quite certainly be set several intermediate stages in experiencing, so that he may ripen for all that of which is spoken here in advance today and may become one who seeks the worth of his life above all in being able to be a giver
Giving is a blessing which has yet gradually to take root in the thinking of men as a needful part of the building up of the new life
Whoever finds in the Law of Giving and Taking that hitherto hidden magnitude of blessing which lies precisely in giving in the first place, he will now advance a great stretch further in his spiritual development
Giving opens the possibility of a streaming of powers which till now had to remain denied to mankind because of its manner of thinking and acting
In giving lies the knowledge of ripe wisdom, which belongs to all who have been permitted to enter the spiritual home in the planes of Light in Creation
May therefore an awakening from the sleep of the spirit now be granted to as great a number of men as possible, so that enlightenment may come upon this earth
The first men are already today striving for this new thing in the most varied forms of giving to others
These are the bearers of true spiritual enlightenment
To them belongs thanks for keeping their intuitive perception in mobility even in today's time, when this demands great effort, for the opposition of the incomprehension of spiritually sleeping men is great
These men are therefore held by the Light to be the true bearers of the Cross of Truth
