Many a man to whom there came the possibility of recognising the grace-filled gift of the Truth in the Grail Message ponders how it is possible to change the hitherto continuing baneful influence of the earthly intellect, which manifests so devastatingly in the world of men today

He ponders how with his spirit he can gain the victory over the inherited legacy which, from the moment of his birth in an earthly body, by its ponderousness binds him too unhealthily strongly to matter

He ponders over this legacy, which in him too was strengthened by study at schools, where, screwed up to the degree of the utmost overgrowth, it became a harsh obstacle to all that is more vividly intuitive in man

He asks whether a man thus affected by upbringing and by the schools mentioned can do anything about it and change the intellectual disposition whose consequences he observes in himself

He despairs whether it is at all possible to change anything in this today

This especially when, in the freshness of some experience of his own, or still more often in some painful experience at the hands of other men, he becomes aware how greatly the world is fettered by the intellect and how troublesome it is to unfold a spiritual life within it

More than one night is then spent awake, in which this is earnestly thought over, considered, indeed researched to exhaustion without sleep

Most often, however, the forces are squandered without any notable result being attained

Nowhere is a promising change to be seen, neither in grown-ups nor in children

From time to time, therefore, perhaps every man who knows the work the Grail Message muses upon the question whether it is at all possible today to begin with a change in the activity of the brain such as it rightly ought to be, so that a man striving towards the Light may no longer waver in his decisions and may enable the spirit to stride upwards freely and unhindered

In anxiety over his spiritual path man considers how to begin in this matter, so as to use in the best way the spiritual abilities slumbering within him, and that the intellect may no longer hold him back and lead his inner volition aside in its application in everyday life

With horror it is also observed that mankind as a whole takes no notice at all of this intellectual trap that has been set, but on the contrary runs ever more towards it in the supposition that this is progress

There is but a small number of men who are aware of this and who seek ways for a change for the better

These men are valuable in this alone, that they did not give up this struggle of theirs in advance at the very outset and did not yield to the supposition that they themselves have not the strength to change anything in it

Their worth lies in this, that they do not give up and daily wage their struggle for the intuitive ascendancy of the spirit over the intellect

With all respect for these spiritually courageous and valiant men, it is nevertheless possible to see that their struggle is as a rule waged in a manner which brings only a very small effect for the necessary change

The strength for the change is indeed expended by them, but in the wrong place and moreover in the wrong direction

Let us consider the apparent connection prevailing in this

We say that the question of the relation of the intellect and the spirit is earnestly thought over, mused upon, or examined in research

This alone proves that the majority of those who seek to change something in it still move, alas, only in the tracks laid down by the intellect itself

In spite of all good endeavour, almost no one therefore succeeds in stepping out of the narrow bounds which the omnipresent intellect, now standing at its zenith, has filed out by its work for the thought-world here

It appears so troublesome that even earnestly endeavouring men gradually come to the conclusion that of themselves they are evidently no longer able to step out of these tracks, and in matters requiring the participation of living spiritual intuitive perception they end by acting resignedly in the tow of the intellect

“I cannot do otherwise”, they say to their fellow men, and with this they also justify themselves before their own conscience

They thereby confess how strongly they are under the pressure of the material world, because for them too it holds good that whatever is to have meaning and worth in their eyes is to be found in the form of a material, visible result

An excessive preoccupation with visible material forms as the proof of a successful result is firmly ingrown into all reflection, even in knowing men

Only that which is visible and tangible on the plane of the earthly world is regarded as an actual result

In order that it may be grasped and also appreciated from the human point of view, it must always have success in the material

The other planes seem to lack sufficient weight to convince man that work devoted to them has meaning

Although it is said that the spirit is the most important thing, that intuitive perceiving counts for far more than a purposeful outward deed, in the end those material ways always prevail which lead first of all to a goal in the material

The greater part of the daily forces is used up for the gross material providing for oneself and for those close to one in the manner which the social standard prescribes

As a creature surrounded by the earthly world, even a man who knows the true goal of the spirit can do no otherwise than that he too gives precedence to the outward life over exalted inner motives

And this creates an inner pressure and struggle, because somewhere deep within it is at the same time perceived that things can and should be otherwise

That spiritual intuitive perception should be the determining thing for everything which here upon earth issues from men and helps to shape the world, and this even at the cost of its not being immediately visible as a manifestation in the material world

That simpler and finer inward element in man wrestles with the outward and dense for the leading place

Many in this struggle come to an inner imploring entreaty that God Himself would do something about it and would intervene even in their gross material life for the liberation of their inner spiritual intuitive perceiving

This, however, does not come about along the ways they expect, and therefore that question returns again and again, how man is to change in this important matter

How and when this change is to come about

Or is the struggle between the intuitive inner being and the outward ruling administrator of thoughts and feelings, that is, the intellect, perhaps to be endured enduringly here upon earth in the future also

Set against this, surely, are the great promises of the coming of a help bringing new ways

But where on this way we now find ourselves, it seems that not one of earthmen knows

Thus question follows question, and daily experiencing brings only new confirmations of how strongly the influence of the intellect is rooted among men upon earth

However difficult the questions may seem and the answers to them almost impossible, in essence everything is simple and childishly plain

Liberation can come only through the application of the inner spiritual will together with the support of help from the Light

For a man earnestly longing for a change towards a better and more liberated experiencing of his spiritual inner being upon earth, the beginning of the change lies in finding the connecting place from which the new path to ascent can begin

In this lies the essence of the starting point

To find the manner of one's own share in that linking with the helps made ready from the Light

Nor is this as difficult as it might appear at first glance

The beginning lies, as does everything, in the living movement of the spirit

The movement of the spirit is also already in itself that work which has long been expected of man from the Light

The work of the human spirit is in its simplicity contained precisely in its own purely joyful disposition, which is radiated by the spiritual inner being into the surrounding space as a pure vibration not yet having its own anchorage in the forms of thought-volition

This radiation of the spirit is to be regarded as a fervent, wordless form of thanks to the Creator, which is radiated into the space of this part of Subsequent Creation

For a right beginning on man's part it is therefore only needful to accept that the work of the spirit is that very inner attunement of deep and noble intuitive perceptions of pure joy

This radiation of the spirit is important for further progress in development

Out of this radiation the weavers of the threads can prepare new forms, harmonious and imbued with beauty, for this world

In this radiating there should be contained, apart from thankful joy, nothing definite out of the personal volition of man

The radiating of the pure spiritual essence as the purest prayer of thanks to the Creator, that is the fundamental essence for the fulfilling of the spirit

It is the fulfilment of its service, which through a knowing recognition of Creation can enduringly widen and multiply in its comprehensiveness in the grasping of the connections out of which the great harmony of Creation arises

The radiation needed for this penetrates from the connection of the spirit with the body through the nerve fibres to the part of the basic brain, and here, still holding the foundation of vibration known as the pure hearth, it enters further places, where it works ever purely and clearly without the need of many words

Through everything there passes the vibration of a pure, inward, uplifting and deep nobility of character

This foundation of the vibrations of radiation has been expected of the human spirit by the animistic servants and by all the helpers of the spiritual kind from the beginning of his immersion into the materialities

This attunement the human spirit should therefore have maintained here in the earthly body also, as an enduring foundation for the general ascent, for out of this radiation of purely joyful thanksgiving the weavers can form the foundation for the future development in the right direction according to the Will of God

It is therefore a genuine starting point which should be maintained by man enduringly in a living, giving streaming of radiation as his gift of the pure spiritual kind for these places of Subsequent Creation

Everything else that arises out of it should be the consequence of the pure extolling of the Creator and of His Creation with all the creatures, inhabitants and forms to be found within it

There is contained in it far more than men today are able to imagine, for the kind of purity and the power of the radiating of the spirit is determinative in a certain co-creative share in the further development of these material parts of Creation

It is therefore possible to speak of this share of the inward work of the spirit as of the foundation which is needful for everything else

And in this, alas, men have hitherto failed and still fail more than in anything else

With their immature, often not entirely pure, indeed often outright base and dark will they have intervened in threads of development so grave that out of it there had in the end to come all that we now experience and all that is yet to come besides

Instead of the pure foundation of a radiation of joyful trust and thanks, there was radiated, under the influence of the tempter, only volition of a limited and narrowly personal kind of the individual man through his willed wishes and thoughts

This became a contrary direction, out of which there were formed only sicknesses, pain, suffering, violence and wars

Therefore it is now needful to return to the foundation of all that belongs to the work of the human spirit here in Subsequent Creation, in which he is gradually to learn and to develop towards maturity in the mastery of the gift of the free will of volition

In order that the spirit might stride rightly in its development in the use of its own will for application in life here upon earth, it should have had enduringly to its help the fire-place of the spirit set within it – the hearth, out of which there should always have issued only that pure and joyful thanksgiving

And because in this time the pressure of the Light is intensified, it strengthens all that strives upwards

Then the hands of the weavers can, out of such striving of a man for pure joyful thanks to the Creator, weave a development making possible the beginning of changes in his cerebral constitution, so that the path of the right flowing of intuitive volition towards the part of the great intellectual brain is strengthened, without the latter outshining the inner will of the spirit any longer

It is therefore the fulfilment of all the promises speaking of the liberation of the spirit, yet at the same time this liberation proceeding from the Light needs to meet with the inner living movement of the spirit

Here, then, we have that place where both sides meet as the fulfilment of the promise of man's liberation from the yoke caused by the wrongly proceeding development of the intellect through thousands of years

The hands of the weavers are ready for gradual changes of a delicate kind, which can be perceived as a sudden becoming luminous and as a facilitating of the assertion of a man's actual inner will outwardly

It will be experienced as a sudden courage to stand against the hitherto prevailing ways of acting and of thinking

There will also be able to flow to a man thus striving new and wholly unknown ways of solving the everyday tasks hitherto repeated

Creativity and newness, together with the courage mentioned, will gradually enter into the life of that man who makes his own the knowing of his own spiritual work, which lies in the thankful glorification of the Creator through the joyful radiation of his inner being

It is therefore not fitting to research and ponder further over the hopeless struggle with the intellect in the place where it must always be victorious, that is, in the thinking part of the brain, but the victory lies even before that in the inward radiating of thankful joy upwards to the Creator without words

Not a struggle in thoughts, but the becoming luminous and the pure, intensified irradiation of the preceding place – the flame of the spiritual spark, out of which thoughts only then arise in the further sequence of volition – that is the right way, which now also has the greatest support on the part of the joyfully working weavers

These weavers can, precisely out of the radiation mentioned, prepare for man changes of an unprecedented kind, which reach through the astral prototypes into the very plane of the material body

It is in reality a return of the human spirit to the place where he ought long since to have been, so as to stride from there upwards towards an ever higher nobility of character of himself and of the whole outer world, through the weaving of the animistic weavers, who have been waiting a long while already for his pure radiation

Let every man earnestly striving towards the Light therefore take this to heart as the way shown to the promised liberation of the spirit

In his day he should therefore find time for inner stillness and for the attuning of the radiation in prayer without words

It should become for him a self-evident part of the day, as a portion of purely spiritual activity in the bestowing of the thankful radiation of his spirit into Creation

He should be able to find time for it during the day, so that the right path of development of this part of Subsequent Creation may be helped into being

On the part of the weavers everything is ready for it

There is waiting only for the full awakening of the human spirit and for his joining in the great cycle of the Law of giving and taking on the plane of giving radiation

In reality it is the beginning of the genuine changes for which men cry out in their despairing experiencing of the present

Thus every moment inwardly devoted by man to that joyful giving of noble, thankful intuitive perceptions to the Creator is in its essence not only work equal in worth to the outward kind of work, but there is in it much more of the forces important for the development which lies beyond the reach of human hands

It is therefore not lost time, as his own intellect will now seek to insinuate to many a man

It feels itself threatened by this, for it senses that thereby its rule, lasting thousands of years, comes to an end

For it is precisely in this attunement of the spirit that the clearing and the strengthening of the path of his inner will in the direction outwards into thoughts and deeds lies, in his own material creating and building, which is to remain a place for the ripening of the spirit in gross materiality

The beginning of the changes, however, lies in the place where there is only the radiation of noble intuitive perceptions and of joyful thanks to the Creator without words

There should the strength longing for a change for the better be laid

Everything else is only the continuation of and the following upon the radiation of pure joy bestowed by the spirit

The spirit can with full trust look upon the weavers of this radiation, how they lead the gift of pure joy radiated by it to the places where out of it there arise forms for nature and for the universe, from which there flows back to man upon earth only blessing and ennobling progress

For Jesus already spoke of it to His disciples, that they should direct the first strength of the inner being to God the Father as thanks and should not concern themselves with the ways along which they would be provided for by the servants sent out by Him upon their earthly pilgrimage through life

The greatest portion of man's spiritual strength could work along this way, whose foundation is trust in the fulfilment of the Will of God

Against this, however, everything hitherto acquired in man rebels, all that became a baneful legacy in the overgrowth of the intellect

Thus it necessarily leads to a certain patience and forbearance, for even the best of the best come up against the limits of their earthly intellect

Men should, however, endeavour with all their strength to change this for the better

All the fitness for it they have within themselves

All the strength needed for the change slumbers in them, waiting to be called in the single decision henceforth to give precedence to their intuitive perception over the intellect

And the way to this leads through inner attunement and pure enthusiasm to give out of oneself the radiation of thanks for the creating of a new development by way of the fulfilment of the Will of God

This, however, is a wholly new degree of trust, also in the divine servants – the weavers – a degree too new to become overnight the possession of the man of today

But in the end men will come to it all the same, for they will recognise that therein is contained the condition for the fulfilment of that promised Kingdom of God on Earth

This era of the noble, joyful living of mankind rests upon the recognition and the acceptance of the task which the human spirit hitherto does not fulfil

It is therefore needful to begin occupying oneself with it with the earnestness and the consistency which the human spirit bears within himself as a natural foundation for the recognising and the fulfilling of the accord and harmony which he is to help create in Creation

It is only indispensable to find for it that needful inner will to change, which in many a spirit striving towards the Light already blazes with great power

It is time to cross that imaginary dividing line and to place oneself fully into the entire fulfilling of the spiritual task

Everything else will then be woven in a blessed manner as a gift from the Light to the fulfilling human spirit in the form of helps and of uplifting on his ascent to the spiritual home
