A Story as If From a Fairy Tale

Our fairy tale today takes place in a world finer than the one which the human eye beholds. In spite of that it is dense enough to form a transition and, for many, also a halting place for a longer time after they have left the earthly body. That body which not long ago still walked upon this small planet Earth in the world-part Ephesus, made up of the dust of its soil. Everyone who ever journeyed in a body upon the earth will have to pass through this world, and so too will those who no longer have bodies but who contributed to the forming of this world and supplied it with energy and power. This world is also called the world of thought, because it is formed by the sum of thoughts and of the various structures created out of them. Such a world of thought surrounds the Earth also, and we find here many worlds and gathering-places of thoughts of various kinds. These attract and strengthen thoughts of like kind and, together with the people who think in this way, they form a great cycle of mutual strengthening. Many people long ago ceased to live their real life and instead form worlds, castles in the air, which will one day be waiting for them. Every man finds in these worlds that which is his own: from the dreamers to the lovers, as well as people given over to various vices, but we find here also worlds flooded with light, which support the striving of men towards the heights and towards the good.

All of us who have a part in it are the creators of these various kinds of worlds and at the same time we are also their little kings and queens. But how do we deal with the kingdom which has been entrusted to us? Many a time we are like that proud king who had several daughters and asked them how much they loved him. Many of them fawned upon us – a holiday, an expensive car, luxurious clothing, an entry into politics, the ruling over other people and much else. We nourished them and gave them energy until they grew into outwardly splendid daughters, for whom their father was ready to do anything that he read in their eyes. We sacrificed all too much energy and power for them, for whenever we had gained something of it there came a newer and better model, or else our appetite grew along with the longing for something. There are whole great worlds of that which men give themselves over to in their lives, and it is needless to name it all. It can likewise be a matter of outwardly harmless pastimes, if man devotes too much energy to them and thereby neglects something far more important. Thereby we strengthen mighty central stations which magnetically draw to themselves everything of like kind, and these strengthen it in return and send it back strengthened along the very same track. Thus man is caught as though in a spider's web, from which many a time there is no return. On the other hand he always tells himself that he is doing no evil by it, for outwardly he has killed no one, has stolen nothing, goes to church and everything is in order. And so that fine world of his grows mighty, he races about in it in an expensive car, everything belongs to him, everyone admires him, and he lives like a king.

Yet every man has one more daughter, whom he neglects alongside all the others. This one has no such beautiful dresses and wears neither necklaces nor rings like the rest. Father king scarcely remembers her, since she loves him only as much as that good-for-nothing salt. He did not drive her away out of the kingdom, it is true, but he drove her away from his sight. He wishes to know nothing of her, nor does he take any interest in her. Outwardly she appears well-kept and pure, and out of her inner being there radiates a mighty spiritual power full of goodness. She strives to irradiate all the coverings which the proud king – which every man – bears upon himself. Were he to open himself to her power, he would long since have been guided by his intuitive perception and would not have formed senseless and dark worlds of thought. She loves him with the purest love, and his welfare lies unceasingly upon her heart. That daughter is the little spiritual spark, wrapped about with all manner of ballast which does not allow her to come forth. She waits for the time when she will be permitted to shine out and to find the connection with the places from which she once came to this earth. She is eternal, whether with an acquired consciousness or even without it. Unceasingly she strives for the connection with the place of her origin, and she believes that the time will come when her king will recognise the real values which he will then create not only in the fairy-tale invisible world but also in the real one. She holds in her hand a little bag of salt, of which she knows that this is precisely the gift for which her father king waits, and on account of which he cast her into oblivion.

For the present, however, all the life force at the father king's disposal is directed towards her sisters, who enjoy all the delights of this world, of which that last sister knows that they will not endure long. She, however, sends out strengthening rays unceasingly and seeks the connection with the kingdom around her, so that her father king may awaken. She knows that the change is already near and that everything will soon show its fruits. She is likewise aware that everyone without salt will sooner or later begin to sicken. Not many will live through this time, but precisely those in whom the longing for the salt arises, which alone gives power and sets the spiritual movement flowing, will be permitted to be saved.

Upon our Earth there fortunately exist wise kings also. They knew well the daughter who shines with the greatest love, and this love they both return to the daughter and also use to support the lands and worlds of the wondrous realm where the longing for the good and for the light grows strong. These come back again to them in the reciprocal action and give them heightened strengthening upon their way. These kings through their conduct spread the good around them, and through their attunement they take care that the little bag of salt is never diminished and is able to feed all those who stretch out their hand to it in a pure and sincere entreaty.

Be on your guard, all you who make up for the lack of the true salt with various needless toys and thus lose precious time. With every second the sand runs out of the hourglass, and everything moves towards the point of the striking of the bell. The bell of the new age for those who have known the magic of the salt of life, from which they strengthen themselves and which at the same time they offer round about them, spreading the knowledge of its life-giving working.

May our kingdom shine with the reflection of the light and draw to rest and to the gathering of strength everyone who finds in it repose upon his way to the heights.
