The call is borne through the land once again and leads us into the region of high plateaus, of snow, of thin air and of massive mountains, where a hidden monastery stands encircled by peaks. It is they and the lofty animistic stewards who protect its walls and help to maintain the inner purity and wakefulness of the brothers, so that they may not lose heart and so that the cares and hardships of ordinary human lives may not press in upon them. Often the cold speaks helpfully to them together with the wind and with the seeming caprices of the weather, which are directed towards their greatest inner good in such a way that precisely in the times when the elements rage they may sink into their own inner being and that nothing may deter them from this connection. In the period when the Love of God pours out over our small Earth and over the whole of Creation and all the usual noise dies away in festive tones, it is possible to perceive more distinctly the spiritual streams coming from the brothers and their lama in far-off Tibet, who speak to the spirits of inwardly open people.
Every mutual joining with all the spiritually open people is a small festival which the lama and the brothers hold in their sanctuary. Everyone may take part who is able to find spiritually the path leading along the threads to the monastery. “Be welcome, brother, and you likewise, sister, join yourself with us in the streams of Love, and let us together bring its power to the Earth and to the individuals who need it so greatly. We are gathered in our sanctuary and you may spend this time together with us. Attune yourselves upwards and ask our Lord for the gift of the Power everywhere where doors stand open for it. This time it comes coloured with a fresh yet warming tone, firmly joined with justice. It will apportion to each one as will be most beneficial for his spiritual development. It does not look at to whom it will apportion, it regards his highest good regardless of whether it will please the person concerned or not. It is not that indulgent and softened love of yours which wishes everyone the most comfortable and the longest life. It looks to the good of the spirit, for which a comfortable and long, spiritually unfulfilled life is often a poison that lulls it to sleep and does not allow it to fulfil its spiritual growth. Attune yourselves to its streams and all words will become superfluous. It will speak to us through its vibrations. Let us spend a few moments together in this attunement and give thanks to the Most High that such a joining is granted us on earth.”

The lama perceives the streams which call him to the book. For a long time he has not had it open and has not read from it. Once again he feels that age-old sensation which many other superiors and spiritual people have already experienced: they begin to read or to catch impressions, at first the words received seem pleasant to them, but the moment of fully perceiving them arrives and such a weight sets in that it threatens to break the receiver outright. At first a sweet fruit, which passes over into bitterness until it becomes inedible.
He steps up to the book, opens it and reads: “And all the promises are being fulfilled. Men did not choose the path of joy and happiness which they could have perceived and felt in the time of the heightened influx of powers. The path of many will be bitter and hard, but it will lead to the experiences needed for their spiritual development and to the awakening of their abilities. You in the monastery, so long as you remain faithful to the Truth, will be permitted from afar to help many on their path, and together with you your brothers and sisters in the spirit will lend their help in many places, whom circumstances will bring to the places where help will be needed. In order to remain in connection and to be ready in time, they will still have to pass through several battles and much overcoming. In order to be able to act resolutely and to become a sword that cuts away what is diseased, or that takes its stand in defence of what is right, or that strikes with a word at the right place at the right time, they will have to find the connection with the flame that will heat them and give them strength. After this flame has been found, both what is right and what is wrong in them will receive strengthening and an influx of powers, for the flame with its high heat brings everything to blossom and to the boil. Thereupon purity will work upon them like water, which strengthens what is right and shapes the blade of the sword. What is wrong it will wash away, so that it may not blunt the edge of the sword and so that nothing may remain upon it that would soil it. If it should be needful, the sword will be struck with a hammer, so that this may fall away and be no burden. Let everyone be on his guard and take care that there is not much of that dirt upon the sword, for the blow of the hammer will not cease until nothing remains upon the sword but pure steel without admixture. A broken or a thin sword is useless in battle, which would mean the impossibility of defending oneself and being left without a weapon. Thereupon the Love of God works, precisely at this time, when the book will be opened. It will add where steel is lacking, it will help to even out unevennesses, for it will work like a balm. At the last it will add to the sword out of its ray of warmth until it colours its tip red, and to the spirit of the man who wields the sword it will add the ability to discern at which moment and in what right manner he is to use the sword. With each one, according to his inner orientation, the working and the endowing by the divine Love will differ. One will feel upon himself that his world is collapsing, with another spiritual gifts which he did not hitherto possess will unfold and come to light.
The changes will pass by neither your hitherto manner of living nor the whole of society. Everything that men have hitherto venerated instead of God, and to which they showed the honours belonging to God, will fall. The wrongness and the feet of clay of everything will be shown, so that men may see the one and only true thing upon which they are to found their life and upon which they are to build: God and His laws. That is the way along which their path to happiness will lead …

The lama closes the book, gives thanks to those who laid the lines into it, and gradually there plays out before him like a film all that sounded sweet, until he comes to the bitter path through which every single person will have to pass. That path will be a marked change of the outward conditions, indeed a collapse of much that has hitherto been so ordinary and customary. He feels that it is a path prepared by the Love of God, but he finds it hard to discover in it what men call love. He is aware that Love stands beside the man who walks along that path, but at the same time he is aware that the change comes only after this demanding path has been traversed, because the first step of building up is at the same time the pulling down of the old which no longer holds and is no longer usable. Then the rubble must be cleared away, and only afterwards does the digging of the foundation for something new begin. That too is not to be seen at first. Only afterwards do the new walls and ramparts rise, which will be visible as a new building.
These were the flashes that unfolded before the lama's sight. A tear runs down his cheek. A tear of liberation and of salvation. At the same time it is a tear of pain over the path which will precede all this. The lama has already experienced much, but for a long time he has not been so startled and so moved at once.
He withdrew into a quiet room with a view of the majestic mountains upon which a strong mountain wind blows. He asked the animistic beings of the wind to carry his prayer out into the whole world, wherever there are hearts willing to hear it and to receive it into themselves:
To you I speak, O human spirit,
you have sensed the delicate tones and our voice upon the air,
the prayers and pleas of the brothers from the cloister in the mountains call you,
receive the streams of love, that they may soften the pain that you bear.
The lama prays and pleads for the welfare of every single person who is able to open himself to the endowments of the Love of God. Let no one allow this grace to pass by his spirit unnoticed!
