When the need is greatest, help from the heights is nearest to you. Thus spoke the lama today in the Tibetan monastery to the brothers, who pray with all their strength and beseech the Most High that the delicate threads issuing from the heights towards all other men throughout the whole world may find their recipients and that a common connection may come into being. It is wonderful to see and to recognise how in many men their spiritual gifts and a deep spiritual intuitive perceiving awaken under the strengthening of the threads. It is, however, very important to remain constantly at the task and to occupy one's thoughts with what is beautiful and noble. It is precisely this that builds the bridge towards the threads issuing from our monastery, and not from there alone, for there are more such places upon earth. Likewise every single person can become one of those who will strengthen them and pass them on further, if he discovers within himself a genuine longing for it.
Especially during the coming summer the brothers perceive a standstill of spiritual striving in several places of the globe. The lama, being well aware of his own fallibility, offers the brothers this picture in his best volition and in the greatest purity of his connection:
“Dear brothers, transport yourselves together with me to those places of Europe where everything, striving towards a joyful upbuilding, will first have to begin with a violent fall. Even this fall itself must be regarded as the preliminary stage of a great and willed upbuilding. For many it will come unexpectedly and with great vehemence, for the purpose of their realising the unworthiness of all human conduct hitherto, which was directed only towards matter, material gain and earthly advantages. To not many will the possibility open in the depth of the fall of intuitively sensing and uniting with their own spiritual essence, and in them there will blaze up the longing to be in connection with the heights through the conscious receiving of the Power from the heights. They will discover within themselves spiritual gifts and qualities of which they had not hitherto even dreamed. These men you will easily recognise by their joyfulness, their perseverance, their enthusiasm and their wisdom. They will act as beacons in the great distress, showing those who grope their way the place where it is possible to land without their little boats being dashed to pieces upon the rocks.
There will also be many for whom there will no longer be a place upon this earth. They themselves have decided their own fate and will have to leave the earth. These will be the lukewarm ones – not good enough to take hold of the luminous threads, yet at the same time not dark and dense enough to have to perish at once in spiritual death. The circumstances will be so arranged that their departure from the earth is made possible for them at the right time. The others dwelling upon earth will outwardly observe nothing, they will ascribe these various departures to all manner of events of an earthly nature. Perhaps a higher grace will yet grant them planes where they will be able to reflect upon their wrong conduct and where they may be permitted to change and to grow stronger in striving for the good.
There will also be found a group of such as cannot be granted this grace. They will remain until the very end, to perish as unusable ears of corn. Up to the last moment a better decision will still be able to germinate within them and they can be saved, the question is how many will actually succeed in this.
Now it is important to direct your prayers towards those whose volition is wont to unite with the threads, but whose spiritual volition slackens with the coming of summer and of rest. Precisely here is the moment when the enemy lies in wait for them with the aim of devouring them entirely. To sink into the currents of superficiality, of self-indulgence and of idleness, so that they no longer find the connection with the luminous and creative threads. It is as though a man thereby retuned the frequency of his receiver, which then cannot receive the waves of the delicate threads sent out from the heights, for which we pray. He exposes himself to the danger of a fall and to a great risk. Yet it would suffice simply to maintain what has been gained hitherto and to develop it further in the manner already acquired, and no fall, not even a stumble, would have to come about.
Having heard the lama's words, the brothers formed a circle in the courtyard, leaving the lama in the middle, and together they ask him whether they may pray together and beseech the luminous currents for the greatest good of all those who are in danger. The lama joyfully consents, for he intuitively perceives the great progress of his brothers and their sincere longing to help.
He sat down in the middle of the circle, raised both hands upwards and began to pray fervently:
Almighty and Most High, we thank Thee for all the grace Thou dost bestow upon us and for all those wonderful inspirations and luminous threads which gladden our lives. More than once they have helped us in difficult hours, conjured a smile upon our faces and given us courage. Out of love for our neighbours we would beseech Thee to support those who are not so strong in their striving for the higher, or who are not yet conscious of their inner longing. Lead them, we pray, upon the right paths and help them, so that the sowing within them too may germinate in the most beautiful way.
For this we render Thee inexpressible thanks and praise.
Amen
For a long time yet the brothers sat thus gathered in a circle around the lama. Each of them prayed for the threads for that kind which stands closer to him. May none be lost of those who, as radiant germs growing forth from the blossoms of the ethereal gardens, joyfully immersed themselves in matter with the great longing to taste its gifts and to perfect themselves therein in such a way that one day, as self-conscious spirits, they might be permitted to return to their spiritual home.
Sitting silently side by side, communicating through the power of thoughts, there was born among the brothers an invitation still stronger, indeed a flaming longing, that everyone whom these words reach may unite together with them and help in the creating and the stretching out of the threads towards those who are of good volition and who long for a luminous upbuilding. For those who need to grow stronger in this striving that is new to them, let such join together in the evening at nine o'clock. Thereby they will at the same time impart strength to those others for whom this will become the first step towards a new spiritual existence. The monastery of the brothers stands spiritually wide open, and every luminous thread sent forth from there at this hour will at this time show the human spirit who has received it the way that will lead him into the nearness of the brothers.
The brothers of the monastery also believe and wish that some of these spiritual brothers may one day find the way to them on the physical plane as well. Only he whom the delicate threads bring into the monastery in spirit, only to him will the way be shown and the gates of the monastery opened on the physical plane. Until this comes to pass, the gross material gates of the monastery remain closed to every such man, but they welcome all those who approach them in spirit.
