Not only at the beginning of the New Year is it needful to speak of the blessing of dwellings and of the places where men, and animals also, abide. There can be many kinds of dwelling place, but for the most part these are houses, flats, cabins, workshops, sties or shelters, or other kinds of dwelling
This grace, and its reception by men, is bound up with a time when men were far better aware of the high value of words, because they still stood in a more intense connection with nature, with their own inner being and with the spiritual helpers. In the beginning it was an ardent plea directed to the Lord Jesus – "Christ, protect our dwelling"! The words that were uttered welled up out of an open spirit and were experienced in deep reverence and awe before their Lord. Therefore they swiftly found connection and anchorage in the heights. At the same time, along the return path downwards, there floated the blessing and the granting of the plea. How far the plea penetrated, and from what height the blessing streamed, depended upon the depth with which the particular man intuitively felt his plea. Since the men of that time still knew the value of words and were able to feel and to experience them deeply, those few words said everything for which the spirit wished to entreat its God and Lord
Later these words were also written visibly above the entrance of dwellings, and with consecrated chalk there was anchored: C+M+B+ and at the end the year for which man asks for a renewal of the protection. Sometimes the first letter of the Latin C – Christus is replaced by the equivalent in the native tongue, Kristus, with the initial letter K. It is not important, however, with what letters and in what manner man writes down what has been mentioned, what is important is precisely the inner experiencing connected with it and the participation of the spirit. As has sadly proved successful over the years, here too the intellect attempted to weaken the power of the intuitive experiencing, to redirect the stream of force elsewhere and thereby to cut man off from connection with the help from the heights. Therefore, instead of the plea to Jesus and to God, it came forward with the notion that the initial letters C+M+B+ are the initials of the names of the three kings who came to bow before the child Jesus. Even to this day this inscription and blessing is bound up, for many lay people, with the tradition of the Three Kings
The true meaning of these letters holds a deep and ardent plea carried over into the words: "Christ, protect our dwelling". Later, in this same attunement, there was added the plea: "Christ, bless this house". The three + signs mean neither a plus nor the Christian cross, they are a memory of a long-buried ancient knowledge of the equal-armed Cross of Truth and they speak of the divine Trinity and Triunity, the complete knowledge of which, and above all the knowledge of the Holy Spirit, is still veiled in the garment of men's ignorance and lack of understanding. The time, however, demands of the human spirit and summons him to cast off this garment, and it calls him outright to the knowledge of the full Truth!
Let no one, however, think that it suffices to take up chalk light-mindedly and without inner involvement, to write the lofty sign above the entrance of his dwelling or house, and to believe that by this act his dwelling will be protected and consecrated from above! The sign of consecration and of protection presupposes the inner participation of man and his right disposition towards the Giver of being and of Power! Likewise the inner participation and the connection upwards is not sufficient if it lasts only in that single moment when the sign is written above the door of the dwelling. The radiance of this sign throughout the whole year is given precisely by an unceasing inner intuitive feeling and by the human longing for the higher and the supra-earthly! Even though at the outset the inscription shone gloriously and was visible to all that is animistic, it can come about, according to the disposition of man, that in the course of the year, through lukewarmness, through negative emotions or through a turning away from luminous values, this inscription fades until it loses its brightness altogether. And woe to him who turns his direction entirely towards the darkness! Were he to persist further in such an attunement, he would become a perjurer, and the blow of the animistic servants in that locality would most probably be directed precisely at his dwelling!
Blessing and help come from above. To consecrate one's dwelling so that it may be worthy of the blessing of the Most High is a task entrusted to the individual human spirit, in the intuitive feeling of and the opening to the highest reverence rendered to his Lord!
This does not mean that we shall be shielded from all the blows of the reciprocal effects of our guilt, yet we can be helped in marked measure. For example in the form of a warning, when the blows of the reciprocal effects strike some locality, or, if it is possible and the higher purpose can be fulfilled in another way also, through the passing by of the dwelling or home of a man filled with light. Let us keep in mind that everything which radiates and renders reverence to the Most High is protected by His servants, or spared in the greatest possible measure. For the animistic servants perceive everything as radiations, and they perceive the inscription above the entrance or the door likewise in the form of a radiation. If a man, with reverence and with a plea directed upwards, writes above his dwelling a plea for help to the Most High – setting there the equal-armed cross and writing the plea for protection and blessing in God the Father, in God the Son Jesus and in God the Sanctifier – the Holy Spirit, then the animistic beings see a strong radiation. In so far as the men inhabiting these places are in accord with such a plea and consent to it, they strengthen this sign day by day. In the case that among them there is one who does not respect it and acts contrary to this direction, such a man weakens this sign directly or indirectly. Through the strong working of a lofty power such a man can, in the sense of the higher laws, be led away from this dwelling, so that he may live elsewhere. In this too lies the justice of the mighty Laws of Creation
Let everyone therefore weigh well the possibility of the great help which is prepared from the heights for each one. It is not the mark of any narrow group of men, nor of any church, it cannot be appropriated by anyone. Yet it makes it possible to consecrate the longing within one's own inner being and to make it visible outwardly as well
Let us carry its reflection within our own inner being, and, at least as a small thanks for such help, let us speak of this help and protection wherever we inwardly sense openness and a readiness to listen
Whoever has been inwardly touched by these words, let him with all earnestness speak of this blessing with those close to him, and after mutual accord and agreement let them step out before their home – dwelling, flat, house, or also the stable or sty where they keep animals for which they care with love and with honesty, and there, with entreaty and with humility, let them ask their Creator for His protection and help. With chalk let them write above the dwelling:
C+M+B+ and the year in question
What is important is precisely the inner experiencing of the whole act and its grasping by one's own spirit. Let no one lay weight upon what was written with the chalk and in what manner. The true brightness, and the connection reaching up into the heights, are given to the inscription precisely by the inner disposition and the intention of those taking part, which far surpasses the arrangement of signs and numerals
May the protection of the Lord rest upon as many dwellings as possible, and may this knowledge spread out into the world as a luminous wave bringing help and rescue
