A Beautiful Life

The greatest part of the people on earth long to live a beautiful life
For this they seek support with those closest to them, or with other people from whose ways of going through life they try, already from childhood, to take an example for themselves
The ideal is sought by them in the way it has already at some time been fulfilled with other people who appeared outwardly happy and content
Therefore too many great stories arise which are handed on from parents to children
Stories of the happy life of men fill the pages of many books, or are also the subject of portrayal in the most varied works of art
Thus there gradually arose an archetype of human happiness on earth which lies in the enjoyment of all the gifts offered by this earthly world
All this would be something truly beautiful, if…
…if all human comprehension of a happy and contented life were not bound predominantly to the material world alone, and if in this comprehension there did not prevail an almost complete ignorance of the real meaning and significance of human life on earth
Material earthliness in the first place, together with the ignorance of the true meaning of human existence, fills the world of thought surrounding the whole of present-day mankind
And precisely in this lies for present-day mankind a great pitfall which greatly weakens the otherwise reverent concept of “a beautiful life”
Therefore the world of men remains in its thinking always in the same place and does not succeed in attaining progress in the striving for a higher harmony
It is because the ideal is sought only in the material fulfilment of life
If a truly beautiful life of man on earth is to be spoken of, then that highest striving for the knowing of the originator of all that is glorious in life, the striving for the knowing of the Creator, can never be lacking as a part of it
The savouring of the beauty of earthly life is as a part of it conditioned by the penetration into the riches of the all-present Wisdom of God, which at every place offers to man within itself
the admirable things of Creation
On every single plane the perfection of the creative working of the Will of God can be known
Every creature, every particle of the building substance out of which this universe of gross materiality is formed, bears witness to the greatness and the all-embracing nature of the radiation of the Light, out of which the hands of the animistic servants were permitted to form the world which affords the human spirit a foothold during his incarnation into an earthly body
It should be a summons to a daily awareness of the greatness of this gift, which was formed out of the Graciousness of God for the possibility of the development of the humanly spiritual species in the annex of the denser part of Subsequent Creation
If this striving of the human spirit for the knowing of all that stands behind the arising of this world is lacking, then the designation “beautiful” quite of itself excludes itself for earth-life
The concept of the beauty of life cannot be used in the comprehension of the people of today on earth in the whole of its refreshing full value, for true beauty is for man inseparable from spiritual ascent, which is fulfilled precisely through the consciously free striving of the individual for the knowledge of the Truth about the Creator of Creation
Yet this excludes much of the commonplace which penetrates into the present manner of life of the majority of mankind and with which people very often content themselves
That which is extolled as the beauty of life is only the commonplace of the small joys of earthly successes, of bodily health, or perhaps of the warmth of relations between people close to one another
All this is in itself very precious, yet nevertheless it may be called something quite commonplace, for with a true striving of the spirit for ascent these things are a self-evident part of his path through life
A beautiful life in the true spiritual sense is in reality, in contrast to the present conceptions of men, an entirely uncommon life, for in it lies the highest spiritual industriousness
Precisely spiritual industriousness is bound up with an unceasing pressing forward in the finding of new particles of knowledge out of the inexhaustibility of the great creative Work
A part of the industriousness of the spirit is often also the need to struggle for new knowledge, and that even at the price of many errors and waverings
Only in this struggle is spiritual progress to be found, in which in the ever new discovering of connections lies the independence in man's reflecting
Independence is the condition of one's own full spiritual freedom
And the Creator wills to have in his Creation spiritually living and fully valuable men
Therefore, for the gaining of their maturity, he afforded them the ground of Subsequent Creation for their development
From the very beginning he also sends helpers who lead the human sparks step by step upwards in the knowledge which is needful for them so that they may one day reach the spiritual home
From the Light a multitude of gifts is given to men which can become the possession of their spiritual spark
And the right receiving of these gifts leads to an uncommon experiencing of earth-life
A beautiful life is therefore a life overflowing with an abundance of knowing and of wisdom
The two can never be separated from each other
Without the participation of spiritual consciousness in earth-life it is never possible to regard this life as fully valuable, and therefore not as beautiful either in the true sense of the word as this word was formed, as a living manner of experiencing, by the inhabitants of Creation high in the luminous heights
Only out of the living, experienced knowledge of the connections of the spiritual path may a man's inner being shape ever more consciously its further way through the planes of Subsequent Creation, so that he may one day reach the place of bliss in the true home in the Light
The living human spirit needs knowledge for his nourishment as necessarily as the outward earthly body needs daily bread for its life
The knowing of the Creator and of his Creation is a refreshing satiation for the spiritual inner being of man
In the life of an inwardly wakeful human spirit the seeking of answers to the questions about the meaning of being can therefore also never cease until he has attained the high art of absorbing the quickening radiation of the Truth
All men bear this capacity within themselves
In the present time there are on earth human spirits who are not here for the first time
Each one has in some way already gathered sufficient experiences which could have brought him to reflect upon why man came to consciousness at all and what he is to do with his life so as not to live on in an ignorance which belongs only to the lowest creatures in the animal kingdom
Whoever therefore has not within himself the will to occupy himself further with the serious questions of why he is here and of all that follows from it for him as a spiritual inhabitant of Creation, he does not nourish his inner being, and therefore his life can never be called in the true sense either fully valuable or beautiful
All experiences in earth-life have their significance above all for his spiritual spark
The spark needs in a certain sense to be knowing, so that it may go rightly along the paths of fate in the sense of its pure ripening in spiritual development
Spiritual ripening and development are composed of the radiation of the spirit who goes through life ever more consciously
This shows itself in his attitude to all that comes to him
Thus for example it will always of necessity remain only something limited when even the most beautiful moments in earth-life, which come from time to time to every man, are not also transformed into a fervent thanks to the Creator, out of whose great graciousness it can come to man, but are for the man only an object of the enjoyment of his own happiness
The beautiful moments of life, without the simultaneous experiencing of a conscious thanks to God for all that He affords through the radiation of the life-giving Light, will then remain only a dim reflection of the true brightness which is found solely in living spiritual knowledge
It will remain a dim reflection in spite of the fact that a man may perhaps be inwardly convinced that in that hour there can be no greater happiness than that which he experiences
Through the incapacity for a thanks sent upwards a man separates himself from the shared experiencing with all the helpers and the weavers of the threads of fate, who perhaps with the highest exertion of their forces have led the experiencing of happiness into his path
Yet in it there is also one further unhappy consequence arising out of the lack of the knowledge of the Laws of Creation, for precisely out of the fervent radiating of thanks to the Creator the Vaenen may weave important threads for the time to come, when perhaps in a time of a man's distress a helping radiation of the Light could come to him from the heights out of such threads
Thereby a thanks to God experienced in full value could in return become a help to that same man through the inflowing homogeneous forces of the Light
It is a cycle of forces in which the giving conditions the possibility of being endowed in return
The welling up of fervent thanks out of a man's inner being towards the luminous heights is the natural fulfilling of the cycle of spiritual forces in Creation
Yet this maintaining of the cycle of forces is with many people interrupted through the present ignorance
There arises from it so much subsequent suffering which would not be necessary if only more people were able with ease to experience in the time of their happiness the giving of fervent thanks upwards to their Creator
Not perhaps for the sake of the Creator himself, as though He demanded it, but precisely and only for their own sake and for the sake of all who share in the experiencing of some moment of happiness
The knowledge of this great cycle working in the Laws of Creation affords every man a support for his striving for a pure walking through life filled with thanks
People subconsciously sense how important the sharing of the experiencing of joy and happiness with others is for them
In part it is the content of the earlier mentioned stories which speak of the happiness that was permitted to come to people who became good and kindly towards the rest of life
Yet there is lacking in them a clearly running thread of the knowing of the Truth which would illumine the laws working in it
There is also lacking the elucidation of man's great pilgrimage, which lies in the spiritual ascent on the way to the spiritual planes, until it is one day granted him to loose himself from the covering of his earthly body
Precisely out of the conscious experiencing of thanks to God in the hours of happiness the most beautiful threads may be woven by the weavers of fate, which then lead the human spirit upwards
Therefore these stories do not bear within themselves sufficient strength to awaken people so that they may enter upon the path which alone may make their life beautiful in every respect
The conceptions of men hitherto about the meaning of life have become too bound to the material world, and thereby have of necessity become limited for the true unfolding of the forces slumbering in man
Now, however, there comes from the Light a great enlightenment which brings into everything the clarity and the surveyability of knowledge with which every earthman can begin his path to a fully valuable life
It is the fulfilment of God's promise to help all those who bear within themselves a spark of the spirit still living
To these people the experiencing of the true beauty of life is offered, which is possible only in union with the knowledge of the great vista upon the real task of the human spiritual species in Creation
Everyone is to occupy himself with it with the highest radiance of his inner being
Only thus can he raise the meaning of his life to a high degree of beauty
For this all the effort of spiritual liveliness is to be set in
For some time now the earth has stood upon a new degree of maturity, in which precisely it holds good that he who does not occupy himself in the highest striving with the knowledge of the meaning of his own being can also never speak of a true knowledge of the beauty of life
This time of maturity was brought by the radiation of the Truth contained in the work the Grail Message
In the carrying over of the Truth into human life lies that spiritual enlightenment which is now urgently demanded of mankind
It may thus be said that today precisely the conscious sharing in the spreading of the spiritual enlightenment is the living of that uncommon life
In it lie many gifts for the raising of the own worth of every man
The joining in the cycle of the radiation of happiness which permeates the whole of Creation alone makes human life truly beautiful
